00:00Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed.
00:03A poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed.
00:06And then one day he was shooting at some food.
00:09And up through the ground come a bubble and crude.
00:12Oil, that is.
00:13Black gold.
00:15Texas tea.
00:17Well, the first thing you know, old Jed's a millionaire.
00:20The kinfolk said, Jed, move away from there.
00:23Said, California is the place you ought to be.
00:25So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly.
00:27Hills, that is.
00:30Swimming pools.
00:32Movie stars.
00:33The Beverly Hillbillies.
00:53Now come along and visit with the Clampett family.
00:57As they learn the simple pleasures of the hills of Beverly.
01:01That includes the products of your sponsor of the week.
01:05The cereals of Kellogg's.
01:07Kellogg's of Battle Creek.
01:09K-E-double-L.
01:10O-double-good.
01:11Kellogg's.
01:11Best to you.
01:20Now get a grip upon your chairs and hold your children tight.
01:24A mighty feud is starting and you'll see it all tonight.
01:29The Clampett clan is fighting mad.
01:31Their honor's been besmirched.
01:33Sweet LMA's been courted.
01:35But the darling ain't been churched.
01:45It was young Sonny Drysdale that courted her and fled.
01:49And now the Drysdale family will feel hot, clamped lead.
01:53Cause stranger, you don't trifle with a hill man's daughter fair.
01:57Or you will face his rifle and he'll deeply part your hair.
02:09Now here's the handsome rascal that started this year feud.
02:13A Harvard, Yale and Princeton man.
02:15A shifty city dude.
02:17His game was love and run away cause that's the way he lives.
02:21But they don't allow such doings with their female relatives.
02:30So now they're on their way next door, a loaded up for bear.
02:35And if my name was Drysdale, I'd be getting out of there.
02:39Cause mountain justice does demand that when a wrong's been done,
02:43the kin of him that done it must also face a gun.
02:52And now Sonny noticed Ellie Mae beside the swimming pool.
02:57And when he'd seen her figure, he lost his yin for school.
03:01He wrapped himself up in a towel and played upon his lyre.
03:05And while he twanged the songs he sang, it set her heart afire.
03:17He drove his fancy auto up and took her out to spark.
03:21And all alone, unchaperoned, he kept her after dark.
03:26He took her in the parlor and he taught her to be grand.
03:30He showed her how to walk and talk and tried to kiss her hand.
03:40He took her to his private room to see his lovin' cup.
03:44And a man that wins a prize for that ain't only up and up.
03:48He wooed her with a tango and a rose betwixt his teeth.
03:52A smilin' on the outside, but a lirin' underneath.
04:03They even had a wedding dance and he joined in the fling.
04:07He brought along his dancing shoes, but didn't bring no ring.
04:12The Clampetts was a-planin' for a wedding in the vale.
04:16But they was duped, he flew the coop, and went runnin' back to Yale.
04:27And now the Clampett clan is here to even up the score.
04:31I wouldn't want to be the man who opens up that door.
04:35He'll have to face their fury.
04:37On revenge they are intent.
04:39And if his name is Drysdale, his life ain't worth a cent.
04:46It's that butler, Helen.
04:49What will you Clampetts learn?
04:51There are no possums to hunt in Beverly Hills.
04:53The possums we've after, it's Drysdale.
04:56Well, they're not at home.
04:57Mrs. Drysdale returned to Boston with Sonny,
05:00and Mr. Drysdale's at the back.
05:02Let's shoot him!
05:03There ain't gonna be no shootin' unless it's talk first.
05:06When will Mr. Drysdale be home?
05:08Not until late this evening.
05:10That's talk enough.
05:11Let's go to shootin'.
05:13Now, Granny, you can't shoot an unarmed man.
05:15That's right. I lost my head.
05:17Here!
05:19Now, when death row count's free, we go at it!
05:22One, two...
05:23Now, hold on.
05:25Mr. Butler here ain't done us no wrong.
05:27He's one of their clan.
05:29I said there ain't gonna be no shootin' unless it's talk first.
05:32I'll speak to Mr. Drysdale.
05:34Thank you kindly, Mr. Butler.
05:35Yes.
05:38Thank you very kindly, Mr. Butler.
05:40Why didn't you ask him to dance with you?
05:42I was ashamed of you in front of these young'uns.
05:45Is that any way to learn them feudin'?
05:48Ah, it takes my family to know how to feud.
05:51Why, we drove the Botkins clean out of Napoleon, Tennessee,
05:55chased them off, burnt their shack,
05:57and shovel their footsteps off the path.
05:59Hot diggity dog!
06:01That's what I call feudin'!
06:02I'm sure proud to come from a family like yours, Granny.
06:05That's the Moses family.
06:07Too bad our blood is being thinned out,
06:10cooled off, and watered down with the clamping blood.
06:14Now, Granny, you just simmer down to a boil.
06:16I'll see the right thing you've done by my daughter.
06:19Jethro, you drive me down to the bank.
06:21Mr. Drysdale, me will have a man-to-man talk.
06:24Hmph!
06:25Ain't you about a man and a half short?
06:27No!
06:28No!
06:29No!
06:32No!
06:49You wait here, I'll go and see Mr. Drysdale.
06:51You flush him out, Uncle Jed.
06:52I'll get him on the run.
06:54Now, who told you to bring that?
06:56Granny.
06:56She says there's got to be one fightin' man in the family.
07:00You just drive around a while and cool off.
07:02Pick me up here in about a half hour.
07:04Okay, Uncle Jed.
07:28Mr. Drysdale, thanks to me, Rob.
07:31Yes, and my duty is clear.
07:32Where are you going?
07:33As president of this bank, there's only one place for me at a time like this.
07:36My bulletproof closet.
07:39Oh!
07:53Grannie!
07:55Grannie!
07:57Grannie!
07:57Ellie Mae!
07:58Come quick!
07:59They captured Uncle Jed!
08:01Grannie!
08:05Jeffo says they got Paul.
08:07Come on, Grannie!
08:11The Drysdale's got Uncle Jed!
08:13I dropped him off at the bank, and when I come back, they carried him off somewhere!
08:18Ambushed him, that's what it was!
08:19That butler feller!
08:21He told him he was comin' and they laid a trap for him!
08:23What do we do, Grannie?
08:25Eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth!
08:28They took one of ours, we'll take one of them!
08:31Where's your gun, Kendall?
08:32I give it to Uncle Jed!
08:34I reckon the Drysdale's got him!
08:36We lost the first battle.
08:38They took our leader and our best gun.
08:40But we ain't lost the feud.
08:42Come on!
08:44What Jed Stewart says, when they think they got you licked, attack!
09:03Well, now the feud is growin' hot, the Clampett's lost a man.
09:07Their leader now is Grannie from the fightin' Moses clan.
09:11Grannie learned her feudin' while a child on mother's knee.
09:15When the Moses drove the Botkins from Napoleon, Tennessee.
09:28Now, Jed Stewart, when he opens the door, you grab him.
09:30Ellie, hold his gun.
09:32Yes.
09:34Okay, Grannie, let's go.
09:36Put me down!
09:37Put her down, Jed Stewart.
09:38We don't want her.
09:40Who don't?
09:41We don't.
09:41What's going on?
09:42There's a feud goin' on.
09:44You know somethin', Ellie?
09:45Feudin's fun.
09:46Then...
09:48Jethro put her down.
09:49They got one of our men folks.
09:50We're gonna take one of their men folks.
09:52How about we take her along as kind of an extra?
09:56No.
09:57Not unless they captured one of our women folks.
09:59Ellie Mae, you go in there and surrender.
10:01I ain't gonna do it!
10:03Jethro, put her down.
10:05How about I told her as far as home, and then let her escape?
10:08A little at a time.
10:11Wait.
10:12What's the meaning of this?
10:13He's the one we want.
10:14You told him, Ellie.
10:15Ellie, my arms is full.
10:18Put her down before I take you to the woodshed.
10:21You look awful busy, Granny.
10:23Maybe I should go to the woodshed and wait for you.
10:26It's busy.
10:28I think I'd better call the police.
10:29Stop!
10:30You're trapped while you're able to make them.
10:32Now you turn around.
10:34Walk towards our house.
10:36I refuse to take one step.
10:40Now, you want to walk or you want to limp.
10:42Oh, Mary, you better run into the telephone, please.
10:44Never mind her, Jethro.
10:46Shoot the telephone wire.
10:52There's what having your mind on women can do to you.
10:55It took you two shots to get that wire.
10:58Oh, Granny.
10:59I got two wires.
11:22Good work, Lieutenant.
11:24You've apprehended what is obviously a very dangerous criminal.
11:27I'm coming over and personally hand the reward money to you and your men.
11:31What's that?
11:32Oh, just you.
11:34Very well.
11:36Miss Hathaway, perhaps you'd like to drive me over to police headquarters.
11:40You're interested in psychology.
11:41I'm completely intrigued with the subject.
11:43What's the connection?
11:44The fellow who tried to rob our bank must be a complete nut.
11:47They've got two psychiatrists with him.
11:49What are his psychotic symptoms?
11:50He claims to have $25 million.
11:54No, it couldn't be.
12:03I keep a telling you and a telling you, I got $25 million in Mr. Drydale's bank.
12:09No, you didn't.
12:10They caught you before you got a penny.
12:13You're patient, Doctor.
12:15Obvious delusions of grandeur.
12:18Now, tell me.
12:19About this bank attempt.
12:22Did you have any accomplices?
12:24Any what?
12:25Confederates.
12:27Oh, yeah.
12:28Granny.
12:29She's a Confederate.
12:30She's a Tennessee Moses.
12:33Tennessee Moses?
12:35That's right.
12:37Tell me, did she lead her people out of Tennessee?
12:41Sure did, after they whooped the botkins.
12:45Don't you mean the Egyptians?
12:47Well, they probably whooped the Egyptians, too, if they got in their way.
12:50Granny's folks was fighting food.
12:52They certainly were.
12:54They defeated the best fighters Pharaoh had.
12:57I don't know about that, but they whooped the best fighters Napoleon had.
13:02Napoleon.
13:04Doctor, may I?
13:05You may not.
13:06I'm the one who uncovered this hallucination.
13:10Tell me about Napoleon.
13:11Yes.
13:13You say, Granny's folks won that fight?
13:16They sure did.
13:17Over Napoleon?
13:19Oh, yeah.
13:19They trumped all over Napoleon.
13:22Fabulous.
13:22But how were they able to do it?
13:24Did they fight with superior weapons?
13:26Oh, they fought with botkins.
13:29I see.
13:31And Napoleon didn't have any botkins?
13:34After Granny's folks got through with them, Napoleon didn't have a botkin left.
13:39I remember the last day of the feud, they got Leif and Luke and Odds.
13:46Odds?
13:47Odds botkins.
13:50Please.
13:52Just for a minute.
13:54You're looking safe, Mr. Drysdale.
13:56Oh, it's perfectly safe to look out through the bars.
13:58After all, it's...
13:59Mr. Clampett!
14:00What in the world?
14:01Mr. Gene, Mr. Drysdale, he sure didn't treat me very good over to your bank.
14:04My first visit, too.
14:06Let this man out of here.
14:07He's got $25 million in my bank.
14:09Open this door!
14:10Open it!
14:11Open it!
14:11Oh!
14:14Lie down, mister.
14:18Lieutenant!
14:33Got the prisoner all tied up, Granny.
14:36Can I go back and get the other one now?
14:37No, you can't.
14:38You keep your mind on your feudal.
14:41Close the gates.
14:43Yes, ma'am.
14:43Throw up the barricade.
14:45Yes, ma'am.
14:45Good.
14:46Here.
14:47You walk simply while I check my lookout.
14:52Ernie Mae!
14:54Any sign of the enemy yet?
14:57Not yet, Granny.
14:58All clear.
15:00Sound the alarm if you see a Drysdale coming.
15:04I will, Granny.
15:13You see, all my employees are trained to be on the lookout for bank robbers.
15:16So, naturally, when they saw you walk in with your rifle, their first instinct, well, it appeared to them that
15:21was just...
15:22Well, it was...
15:23You're not mad, are you, Mr. Clampett?
15:24Well, no, we're not about the bank, but, uh, we saw right upset at Sonny for running off in Jilt
15:31and Ellie Mae.
15:32Sonny?
15:32Jilt and Ellie Mae?
15:33Well, that's what we'd call it.
15:35He sparked her for two weeks running.
15:38Took her driving, dancing, held her hand, kept her out past dark.
15:43Back where we come from, that's just the same as saying, will you?
15:46Provided the girl is 12 or better.
15:48Oh, Mr. Clampett, you have my word of honor.
15:50I had no idea that Ellie Mae or any of you took Sonny seriously.
15:54Now, the moment we get to your house, I'm going to telephone Sonny in Boston,
15:58get him on the first plane, and he'll be here tonight to propose marriage to Ellie Mae.
16:02Well, now, that sure is going to smooth Granny's ruffle feathers.
16:05She's been madder than a barefoot centipede standing on a hot rock.
16:10She'll be happy when we get there.
16:12Yes, bless her sweet little heart.
16:25Granny, I see them. They's coming.
16:29How many is they?
16:30Miss Hathaway and Mr. Drysdale.
16:33They's holding pa prisoner.
16:35Come on down.
16:36We'll stop them at the gate or blast them at the barricades.
16:41Death row, days are coming.
16:44Get ready to do battle.
16:53Clear your head in the presence of the stars and bars.
16:58They's getting to the gate.
17:00Take cover.
17:04Everybody inside.
17:05We'll shoot at them through the porthole.
17:13You won't hit power, will you, Granny?
17:15Don't worry, honey.
17:17I can hit a new laid egg out of the nest without budging the hen.
17:20I'll be kidding.
17:26Stop where you are.
17:27Tell you right there.
17:31Granny, it's me, Mr. Drysdale.
17:33I'm coming in.
17:36Let's get out of here.
17:38That's a word, them Yankees, who they're feuding with.
17:52Now, here's the Drysdale mansion where he's fleeing like a rat
17:56since Granny put a bullet through his $20 hat.
18:00But even here, he can't escape the scourge of Tennessee
18:04Cause she's got Ellie spying from the tip-top of a tree
18:09Granny, they took Paul to the Drysdale's house.
18:12Come on down.
18:14We'll go get him.
18:20Well, I reckon we'll have to call her on the telephone.
18:22When Granny's feuding, she's sometimes hard to reason with.
18:25Reckon seeing you with that rifle kind of set her off.
18:28Oh, but that woman shot at me.
18:30Oh, Mr. Drysdale, she shot at your hat.
18:33If that little old woman ever goes to throw lead at you,
18:36you'll be casting a polka dot shatter.
18:39Marie, Ravenswood, why don't you answer the door?
18:43Oh, thank goodness, it's you.
18:45The Clampetts came and captured Ravenswood.
18:47Captured him?
18:48Yes.
18:49And Jethro picked me up in his arms.
18:51He held me and held me and wouldn't put me down.
18:54Why?
18:54He said it was feuding.
18:57Well, now, don't you worry, Marie.
18:59We're going to get this whole thing all straightened out.
19:03Marie.
19:06Tell me more about your frightening experience with Jethro.
19:10Well, there was a knock.
19:11I opened the door and Jethro just swept me up into his big, strong arms,
19:17held me tight and wouldn't let me go.
19:20And he said that was feuding?
19:21Yes.
19:23That's why I was afraid to open the door right now.
19:26Marie, you've been through a shattering ordeal.
19:28Go and lie down.
19:31I watched the front door.
19:35Come on, Jethro.
19:36We're going back to the Drysdale's house.
19:38Hot diggity dog.
19:39That's the part of feuding I like.
19:41We're taking you with us, Mr. Butler.
19:43And if they harmed one hair on Jed,
19:46that one hair you got will pay the price.
19:48Oh, won't you please listen to me.
19:49Mr. Drysdale's not feuding with you.
19:51He's a peaceful man.
19:53He's never shot anything but skeets.
19:55Skeets?
19:56How many did he get?
19:58We did very well.
19:5998 out of 100.
20:00That's better than we did with the Vodkins.
20:03You ready, Granny?
20:04Come on, young ones.
20:05We got our feuding cut out for us.
20:07That Drysdale's our shooting fool.
20:13Now, Ellie Mae,
20:14you carry the flag high and proud.
20:17If they shoot you,
20:18don't two let it touch the ground.
20:20Throw it to Jethro as you're falling.
20:22I'll do it, Granny.
20:25What'd you do that for?
20:26If there's any long-range shooting,
20:28they'll think he's one of us
20:29and drop him first.
20:32Forward, march!
20:41The one to the phone wouldn't work.
20:42Maurice said Jethro shot down the wires.
20:45Well, we can go next door
20:46and use the Miller's phone.
20:48Yep, been cut with a rifle bullet.
20:51Kind of ragged, though.
20:52Jethro must have been upset.
20:54That's bad shooting
20:55to cut those little wires with a rifle?
20:57Why, when that boy puts his mind to it,
20:59he can pick a gnat off a plate of grits
21:01at 500 feet and a heavy fog.
21:05I'm the only one who can out-shoot him.
21:07Except for Granny and Ellie Mae.
21:10Well, what skeet shooters you'd make?
21:13What skeet?
21:14Oh, they're clay pigeons.
21:15That's what I shoot.
21:16Clay pigeons?
21:17Oh, it's wonderful.
21:17I love it.
21:19Your wife must be a first-rate cook.
21:26Now, here comes Granny's little band
21:28to free their leader, Jed.
21:30And anyone that blocks their path
21:32might just as well be dead.
21:34For though their numbers may be small,
21:36the flag that leads their way
21:38is the flag that led Pickett's charge
21:40at Gettysburg, PA.
21:47Stop for a minute.
21:48I got an idea.
21:50We'll use Mr. Butler here as a decoy
21:52and we'll surprise him.
21:53What do you mean, Granny?
21:54You lock on the door
21:55and you yell to him inside that it's you.
21:58Then we'll rush in and we'll get Jed.
21:59And maybe somebody else, too, huh, Granny?
22:02You keep your mind on your feuding.
22:04Come on.
22:19It's me, Ravenswood.
22:21Open up.
22:22Marie!
22:23You may open it.
22:27Nothing to be afraid of.
22:29It's just Ravenswood.
22:29Step aside, decoy.
22:32Ellie, you got him.
22:33Jethro.
22:34When they open the door, we'll rush him.
22:41Where's Jed?
22:42What'd you do with him?
22:43Talk fast.
22:45He's not here.
22:46He's next door with Mr. Drysdale.
22:48Search the house, Jethro.
22:49Jethro.
22:51Jethro!
22:53You agree?
22:54Put her down.
22:55She's light as a feather.
22:57Put her down and go look for your Uncle Jed.
23:01Now go search the house.
23:03Jethro, you're unfamiliar with the place.
23:05I'll show you around.
23:08What'd you do that for?
23:09A feud is a feud.
23:14Jenny, here comes the toy, Mr. Drysdale.
23:18I'll pick that varmint off like I picked a bodkin off a rail fence.
23:25Ellie Mae, what in the world are you doing?
23:27I'm guarding the decoy, Pa.
23:29Ravenswood, you Boston Yankee.
23:31Bear your head in the presence of our flag.
23:34See, our flag?
23:35My family came from Tennessee.
23:37Mine did, too.
23:39Jed, I always did like this man.
23:41Why, sure, Grand Ann.
23:43He's going to make Sonny do the right thing by Ellie Mae.
23:45What does that mean, Pa?
23:46I'm going to make Sonny come back here and marry you.
23:49I don't want to marry Sonny.
23:51You see, Granny, the whole doggone feud was for nothing.
23:54Not altogether, Jed.
23:56Why, we might never have known that Mr. Drysdale here
23:59was a fine gentleman from Tennessee.
24:02Tell me, ever hear of the Moses family?
24:05Hear of them?
24:06Why, my mother's family feuded with them for years.
24:10You mean your mother was a bodkin?
24:12Mr. Drysdale, don't ask me why.
24:15Just commence to running.
24:16You heard them.
24:18Run, you yellow-botkin-eye-mimoses.
24:20Huh!
24:28For a city feller, he sure can run.
24:30Like a scared rabbit.
24:33Well, let's go home.
24:34Yeah, put her down.
24:36Oh, listen, Granny.
24:38I heard you and Uncle Jed talking about what to get me for Christmas.
24:41This here will save you shopping.
24:43Oh, you can't take her home for Christmas.
24:45Now put her down.
24:49One of these days, I got to have a long talk with this boy.
25:12Well, now it's time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin.
25:15They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in.
25:19We're all invited back next week to this locality
25:22To have a heaping helping of their hospitality.
25:26Hillbilly, that is.
25:28Set a spell.
25:29Take your shoes off.
25:31Y'all come back now.
25:32Hear?
25:35The National Safety Council says seatbelts could save 5,000 lives a year.
25:40Use your seatbelts.
25:42This has been a Filmways presentation.
25:44So, our también partners has been our bachelor's.
25:46So, our goal is to drop your blocks from black and white.
25:49Now, I think it needs to be a.
25:49We're one person.
25:49That will take you to work.
