00:00What is your favorite thing about working with mom?
00:02Give me a minute.
00:05Can I pass on some of these questions? How does it work?
00:08I'm Emily Blunt.
00:09I'm Meryl Streep.
00:10I'm Anne Hathaway.
00:11I'm Stanley Tucci.
00:12And this is 60 Minutes.
00:15And we have all filmed in some pretty amazing places.
00:18So let's see who remembers them best.
00:24Oh, I know what that is.
00:27I think it's Princess Diaries.
00:30Say it.
00:30Princess Diaries.
00:31It is.
00:32We are definitely in San Francisco.
00:35I know it's the fastest way back to the consulate, but I hate this hill.
00:39I do believe I'm beginning to feel that corn dog.
00:41One of my first things that I ever did on film,
00:44where I was at the top of the hill and they handed me a scooter.
00:48And they said, okay, you're just gonna go down the hill.
00:51We've done it.
00:52It's totally safe.
00:54Did you do it?
00:54And I said, okay.
00:55And then, and they said, and if you get nervous, just, you know, just use the brake.
00:58It'll be fine.
00:59I picked up so much momentum.
01:01Yeah.
01:02So fast.
01:03Oh my gosh.
01:05And so I just hit the brake immediately and rode the brake the entire time down.
01:08Yeah.
01:08And I just remember, I got to the bottom and they were like, okay, we think we got it.
01:12And I was like, that's good.
01:14You're like, cause I won't be doing that again.
01:16I'm like, I, they're like, do you want to go get them?
01:18I'm like, if you got it, I don't want to waste the time.
01:22Me?
01:24A princess?
01:26Shut up.
01:27And what was it like showing Julie Andrews around San Francisco?
01:30I didn't personally show Julie around San Francisco, but filming with her, I mean, just an absolute high water experience.
01:39She's the most magical hug of a human being.
01:43And she's so generous.
01:45She's so warm.
01:46She's so friendly.
01:48And she's just this real light.
01:50She has the most amazing energy, just really, really gracious.
01:53And we had a great time and we ate corn dogs together again and again and again.
01:59Well, here goes.
02:03Oh, I know what that is.
02:04I know what it is.
02:05Oh, I know what that is.
02:06Well, let you guys say that.
02:07It's boring if I say, I know what that is.
02:08Go on, Stanley, which is it?
02:10Stanley has no idea.
02:10The Spanish.
02:11No.
02:12I have no idea.
02:12I think it's Oppenheimer.
02:14Oh.
02:14Yes.
02:15So this was the Georgia O'Keeffe property, I think in the middle of nowhere, the New Mexican desert.
02:21I was ill prepared for winter in the New Mexican desert.
02:24And all I remember is just it being just Baltic.
02:28And I remember Chris Nolan refusing to wear one of those big puffy jackets because he wanted to be in
02:34it with us.
02:34But whenever I would come on set in my big puffy jacket, he'd go, can you take your actors' suits
02:40off?
02:40Actors' suits off.
02:41Security blanket off.
02:44I'm going to New Mexico to my ranch with friends.
02:48You should come.
02:50It was astonishingly beautiful.
02:52Like, I think the New Mexican skies are just these vast, this mythic story space to make that movie.
02:58It was wild.
03:00Jesus.
03:01I mean, oh.
03:03Yes.
03:04Okay.
03:05That's a little island off of Skobos.
03:08That's Mamma Mia.
03:09Those steps, I ran up those steps.
03:11And I thought, I could do that once.
03:13And they did it more than once.
03:14Yeah.
03:21It's an amazing spot.
03:23It's almost improbable.
03:24There is a little chapel on there on the top, but it's not the one we shot in.
03:29We shot in indoors in England.
03:31Did you live on the island together?
03:33Or, like, how much was it in England and how much was on the island?
03:36We shot the entire movie in Pinewood Studios for, you know, maybe three months.
03:44And then the last three weeks, we went and shot all the outdoor bits.
03:47That must have been a fun time.
03:48That was really magic.
03:50Oh, God.
03:50We had so much fun.
03:52So many laughs.
03:53It just looks so joyful, that film.
03:55Yeah.
03:56You feel it.
03:56That place is remarkable.
03:59Mamma Mia, does it show again?
04:02My, my, just how much I missed out.
04:05And it was so fragrant.
04:08Wild rosemary and fruits.
04:11And it was just so beautiful and fragrant.
04:15That was the thing.
04:15You woke up in the morning and smelled all the herbs and things growing.
04:19It's simple and it's plain.
04:22Why should I complain?
04:26Dawn.
04:26I know what they say.
04:29Aww.
04:30Oh, yeah.
04:30That was fun.
04:31That was fun.
04:32Yeah.
04:32That's Julia and Julia we shot in Paris.
04:35Aww.
04:35We shot most of it in, where were you?
04:38In, um.
04:39I don't know, because you gave me a martini every night.
04:42I know really what they were.
04:44I think we shot a silver cup, I think, didn't I?
04:46This is Queen.
04:46Beautiful.
04:47Beautiful.
04:47I was so excited.
04:48I thought we were going to go to Paris for the entire film.
04:50No.
04:50No, that didn't happen.
04:51Queens.
04:51But then we ended up in Paris for about 10 days.
04:54Yes, we did.
04:54Oh, gorgeous.
04:55Had a great, great, great time.
04:59I feel that I am French.
05:03I just must be.
05:07And the great thing is, wherever we were shooting, we'd go, we'd have a lunch break.
05:11We would just go find a restaurant.
05:13What is your favorite thing about working with her?
05:15Give me a minute.
05:17No.
05:18Can I pass on some of these questions?
05:20How does it work?
05:22I was always an enormous fan, although we are not terribly apart, you know, huge age difference.
05:29And then when I got to know her, I became an even greater fan.
05:33But I was, I'm still quite nervous, though we've worked together a few times.
05:38I'm still nervous.
05:39What?
05:39Yeah.
05:40Aww.
05:40I still get a little, a little bit and I go, what am I doing here?
05:45Hmm.
05:45You know?
05:46Are you 60 yet?
05:47I'm 65.
05:48Oh my God.
05:50Okay.
05:50Well, I'm way older than you, so.
05:53Yeah, I'm just trying to do you a favor.
05:54Okay.
05:55Um, but.
05:57Oh God, I got it.
05:58I got it.
05:58I got it.
05:59Okay.
05:59No, but I am.
06:00She's so playful.
06:02She's so funny.
06:03She's so smart.
06:04She understands the scene better than anyone.
06:06Oh God.
06:11I have to remember to act with her and not just watch her.
06:15That's the great part and the scary part.
06:18Sometimes I just sort of want to watch and I'm like, Oh God, I think I have to say something
06:22now.
06:23I do know what this is.
06:25Oh wow.
06:26This is my husband's movie.
06:28This is Quiet Place part two.
06:31Hmm.
06:31I remember this scene.
06:33I remember being slightly afraid of ticks.
06:36Where was it?
06:37Buffalo.
06:38Oh yeah.
06:39Our amazing grounds guy had created all of this.
06:42It was actually nothing.
06:43It was dirt.
06:44And I remember Pedro coming in and creating this whole jungle.
06:47It was so cool.
06:49I remember this scene.
06:50I have the baby.
06:52Just had the baby.
06:53That's smart to have a child in a silent world.
06:55Mm-hmm.
06:56And I come through the gate and I set off an alarm.
07:08Run.
07:10So we can tell that my husband is a very sick man because he wrote all of these scenes.
07:15I remember it being a hundred degrees that day.
07:18And I remember John saying to me, can you do like a fake stumble as you're running?
07:23And I used to have one good knee and now I have two shit knees because of this fake stumble.
07:29But I really remember that day because of the astonishing Noah Jupe who played our son in it.
07:35And he gets trapped in a bear trap.
07:37It was amazing shot John came up with it.
07:39The shot like came down like that as we're running, running, running.
07:41Right as he's about to step into the bear trap.
07:43It hits the bear trap and people in the audience went.
07:46And he steps in it and it clamps on him.
07:49And this child had to give out a scream.
07:52And it literally chills my blood thinking about it.
07:54He was just astonishing that day.
08:02Oh, we all know this one.
08:04We know this one.
08:05We know this one.
08:05We're all in it.
08:06In some spiritual way.
08:08This is Devorah's Prada.
08:09This is Paris.
08:10Filming in Paris is great.
08:11It's great.
08:12It is amazing.
08:13I wouldn't know on that show.
08:16Wait, you didn't go to Paris?
08:17No, she didn't go.
08:18No, I didn't go.
08:19What about the scene where your own steps?
08:20They didn't have the money.
08:23For your entourage.
08:25No.
08:26By entourage.
08:27Roy.
08:32So what about when you're coming up the steps?
08:35That's somewhere in New York.
08:37In New York, yeah.
08:38Do you know what I'm amazed by?
08:40By Hathaway, how she walks in stilettos on cobbled streets.
08:45Nay runs.
08:47Absolutely.
08:47I watched it again last night because the kids wanted to finish it last night before
08:51they come to the premiere.
08:52Even they said, look how fast she is.
08:55Yeah.
08:55Just how you just like leap around in your stilettos on cobblestone streets.
08:59Yeah.
08:59Can't walk on a bare foot though.
09:01Can't walk on a bare foot.
09:01Literally cannot walk without falling over on bare feet.
09:04Yes.
09:04But stilettos, you rock.
09:05But a stiletto.
09:06Well, she was 22 when she did that.
09:08She still can do that.
09:09No kidding.
09:10In this one.
09:11And I thought, oh, let's see this happen.
09:15And she runs through New York.
09:24I don't actually have words to what it was like to be in this location, in the vastness
09:28of it, to be that young and that green.
09:31And I mean, I just remember I was wearing Louis Vuitton.
09:34Cute outfit too.
09:35And Patricia Field had put me in these lovely gloves.
09:37And I was wearing my own Prada shoes that I brought because sometimes in a film, the
09:45budget doesn't quite stretch.
09:46And so you provide some of your own favorite accessories.
09:48Great shot as well.
09:49That big cream shot coming up.
09:51Beautiful.
09:51So gorgeous.
09:52And I do remember we went to this wonderful restaurant.
09:55I think it was maybe called Chez Louis.
09:57And they're famous for their roast chicken.
09:59Oh yeah.
09:59That's an amazing restaurant.
10:00And most delicious roast chicken I'd ever had.
10:02But I didn't know about like walking away for lunch.
10:05I was kind of too nervous.
10:06And I have to say that French film crews provide a gorgeous catered lunch.
10:10With wine?
10:11With wine.
10:12And linen.
10:12They don't do it anymore, but with wine.
10:13They don't?
10:14No.
10:15They don't do it anymore.
10:16They don't?
10:16No.
10:17Oh, come on.
10:18Bring it back.
10:19You're the friend.
10:20Go for it.
10:21I know.
10:23Everybody wants to be us.
10:31Oh.
10:33That's the Devil Wears Prada.
10:35Two.
10:36Two.
10:37Is it?
10:37Mm-hmm.
10:38That's supposed to be a house in Vermont.
10:41Where was it?
10:41New Jersey.
10:42Long Island.
10:43Long Island.
10:43Perfect.
10:47What was your favorite location in this entire second time?
10:51Milan.
10:52Anything in Milan was just...
10:57Lake Como.
10:58I was going to say Como for me.
11:00Lake Como was...
11:01We weren't invited.
11:02No, we weren't invited.
11:03You guys didn't make the Como cut?
11:04No.
11:05No, it was just...
11:05I am just stepping in it all over the place with you today.
11:09Lake Como was gorgeous.
11:11Wait, wait.
11:13I hope that's not what you're wearing to the dinner.
11:15That's all.
11:17Mmm.
11:18Oh, there we go.
11:19That's the exterior of the restaurant in Big Night.
11:22That was in New Jersey.
11:24We had this exterior that we sort of fixed up to look like that.
11:29Mm-hmm.
11:29And then the rest of it was all shot on a stage.
11:31I wanted this particular kind of street landscape that was...
11:38You could tell it was East Coast, but it's never named.
11:41It's never named what year it is.
11:42It's never named where the movie takes place.
11:45Yeah.
11:45People will say different things.
11:46Oh, that movie you made about Long Island guy, the New Jersey guy, blah, blah, blah.
11:50I never wanted it to be specific because then people have preconceived ideas and they're
11:54like, oh, no, that's...
11:55And then go try to find the restaurant.
11:57They go to...
11:57Yeah.
11:59Good luck.
11:59Yeah.
12:00Stanley wrote...
12:01He's written several great books, but one that I read recently called Taste, and you
12:04tell a really great story about this, about learning how to make a frittata.
12:07Yeah, I learned how to make a frittata from Johnny Skeppin, who was a chef here.
12:12I knew how I wanted to shoot the scene.
12:13I wanted to shoot it all in one shot.
12:17So it's a five and a half minute tape.
12:18Yeah.
12:19But in order to make it work, I had to make the frittata.
12:23It had to be like perfect and effortless.
12:26And sometimes it's not.
12:28I luckily had this great...
12:29I had one pan I tried and I was like, fuck, it's not going to work.
12:32And it kept sticking.
12:34And then I found this one pan that was perfect.
12:37And it worked every time.
12:39And that was on film.
12:40That wasn't...
12:40It was on film, yeah.
12:41So you didn't have...
12:42We did seven takes.
12:43It was limited, limited.
12:44Yeah, oh yeah.
12:45Two of them were aborted halfway.
12:48We kept five and then we went through.
12:50I love you.
12:50We were talking last night about that movie because it was the first movie that really...
12:55There was Babette's Feast, but it was the first movie that I'd ever seen.
13:00It's certainly an American movie that was just centered on the making of food.
13:04And we've since become obsessed with cooking shows and food things, but...
13:09And fetishizing.
13:10Yes, but a movie.
13:11That stuff didn't exist.
13:13Didn't it exist?
13:14Yeah.
13:14Food Channel or whatever.
13:15No, no.
13:16Wait, the risotto.
13:20Yes, go.
13:22How do you guys think you did it?
13:23I feel like you nailed it.
13:24I think we nailed it.
13:25We nailed it.
13:26Yeah, can we do a lightning round?
13:27Can I just have a look?
13:28Lightning round.
13:29Okay.
13:30Do you want me to hold them up?
13:31Do it fast.
13:32You be valid.
13:33Oh, out of Africa.
13:35Oh, yeah.
13:35Out of Africa.
13:36Out of Africa.
13:37Nairobi.
13:37Outside Nairobi.
13:40Oh, Interstellar.
13:41Where is it?
13:42That's Iceland.
13:42Iceland.
13:43Oh.
13:45I know what that is.
13:46Stan, it's yours.
13:46Is it?
13:47Yeah, no, you know it, you know it.
13:48Roma.
13:49Where we shot this thing?
13:50You wore a very roomy outfit.
13:51Oh, oh, oh, I know.
13:52Yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:53Conclave girlfriend.
13:53Conclave girlfriend.
13:54Oh, conclave girlfriend.
13:55Yeah.
13:56Well, you know all of Italy looks so much alike.
13:58This is mine.
13:59That's Sicari.
14:00That's, yeah.
14:02Clearly I love New Mexico.
14:04Me too.
14:05Okay.
14:06Oh, that's cool.
14:07I think I know what that is.
14:08Oh, Adaptation.
14:08Yeah, Adaptation.
14:10Adaptation.
14:11This is in Studio Ranch, Acton, California.
14:13There's my foot.
14:18Cool.
14:20Where would you like to travel together to?
14:23Hmm.
14:25Well, Meryl's never been to Paris, so I think we should, we should all be invited to Paris.
14:32You can keep it dyst.
14:34That's perfect.
14:34Yes.
14:34That's right.
14:34Yeah, it is.
