00:00Where do you actually land now, Team Edward or Team Jacob?
00:04Imagine if I had an answer to that ready.
00:06Like, imagine if I was like, I really have thought about this,
00:09and I have fallen on the side of, I don't give a f**k.
00:15Yeah.
00:17Hi.
00:18I'm Alya ShotKat.
00:19Hey, I'm Kristen Stewart.
00:21And we both have shot in some pretty cool locations around the world.
00:24Yeah.
00:24Lucky us.
00:25Yeah, we're gonna play a little game where we, like,
00:27see if we can remember any of our lives.
00:28Yeah.
00:33Is this bringing up any triggers?
00:36Oh.
00:38Yeah.
00:38I was like, I've never been there.
00:41I wish.
00:42Jesus.
00:42Like, this is what people do in between movies where they're like,
00:44I'm just gonna go unwind.
00:45It's just really hard.
00:46I just found an island.
00:47I just need to get away.
00:48And I don't want anyone to see it.
00:50Is this, like, an actual location or was this, like,
00:52a drone shot?
00:53Yeah, this is, like, Brazil.
00:54Oh, yeah.
00:54This is Breaking Dawn.
00:56Yeah.
00:56Yeah.
00:57I guess this would be the first one because it's, like,
01:01before all the crazy ass shit happened.
01:05Everyone got stuck in this house, actually, and couldn't leave.
01:08Because of a storm?
01:09Yes.
01:09The whole crew was, like, truly, like, rubbing two peanuts together
01:12and, like, being really infuriated and pissed that, like,
01:16production couldn't get them out of there.
01:18So we're not staying in Rio?
01:20No.
01:21Just passing through.
01:23Are we close?
01:25And there was, like, one little boat and they were like,
01:27we can get the cast out just for the night.
01:28And I was like, this is the Titanic.
01:30I'm like, I don't know.
01:31I'm crazy.
01:32I know.
01:33They're, like, playing violins.
01:35And I'm like, I love you guys so much.
01:40Yeah, like, I consider myself, like, a blue-collar actress.
01:44So, like, I'm super with you, but I'm out of here.
01:47Oh, my God.
01:47Sometimes I think the most beautiful locations
01:49are sometimes the hardest shoots.
01:51People are like, God, that must have been amazing.
01:52And you're like, hey, you'd be surprised.
01:54You know?
01:56Yeah.
01:56You're like, there was mosquitoes the size of my head.
01:58It's the bugs.
01:59Yeah.
01:59Cachaca, that shit.
02:00It was, like, the first time I ever had that.
02:01And I was like, that's different.
02:03That's, like, elixir alcohol.
02:05Oh, wow.
02:05I've never had that.
02:05Strong.
02:07I look at this, I go, cachaca.
02:09Cachaca.
02:09I got lots of cachaca.
02:11Yeah.
02:11Memory association.
02:13Even when we went to Rio, we weren't allowed to go outside.
02:16Do you know what I mean?
02:17It was, like, everyone kind of knew we were there.
02:19Oh, so there was, like, a fanfare kind of vibe.
02:20We couldn't go out.
02:21Yeah, it was just, like, I don't know.
02:23We were told that it was dangerous or whatever,
02:25which was probably a fucking bunch of shit anyway.
02:27Probably could have taken a little walk.
02:28You guys were kind of giving, like, Beatles vibes back then, though.
02:30That was, like, kind of the craziest point of the thing.
02:33Yeah.
02:33Yeah, there was the peak.
02:34Yeah.
02:35We were, like, fucking 30 stories up, and I was like, what is that?
02:40Yeah.
02:41Where do you actually land now?
02:42Team I'd Bird or Team Jacob?
02:44Team Cachaca.
02:46Yeah, exactly.
02:49Look, Jacob, I need you to do something for me.
02:53For her.
02:54That's such, like, an amorphous idea to me.
02:57Imagine if I had an answer to that ready.
02:59Like, imagine if I was like, I really have thought about this,
03:02and I have fallen on the side of, I don't give a fuck.
03:09Yeah.
03:11That is the best answer.
03:13Yeah.
03:13Oh, boy.
03:14Huh.
03:14Here's an old one.
03:15Have I ever seen?
03:16Oh, yeah, sure.
03:17Obvious.
03:18This is from Arrested Development.
03:20We shot it, actually, in Marina del Rey.
03:24The guys then headed down to Balboa Island so George Michael could work at the frozen banana stand his grandfather
03:29started in 1953.
03:30Because there was no Ferris wheel, and there was a banana stand.
03:34You know El Torito?
03:35Of course.
03:36Yeah, so there was an El Torito there.
03:37I love El Torito.
03:38Me and Michael.
03:39El Torito.
03:40We'd always want to eat at El Torito after with our parents, and we'd go, El Torito.
03:46That jingle.
03:47You know, every time.
03:48I was like, so after we rap, should we go to El Torito?
03:52And have some avocados from Mexico.
03:55And we would go there with our moms all the time.
03:58What I would say about Michael and Alya is that they are just like, basically the same.
04:03Yeah, for someone who knows both of us.
04:04You and Michael, yeah.
04:05We were literally met when I was 14, he was 15.
04:09I should go to my mom tonight and be like, I met the cutest guy.
04:12And then she'll see you and me totally making out.
04:18But not really, right?
04:19But we just like instantly hit it off and just like right away became friends.
04:22And then, yeah, your sensibilities just grow together comedically when you're that young.
04:26And you're doing this kind of level of comedy too together.
04:29We're just like learning on the fly.
04:31Our sense of humor is so intertwined probably because doing the show and the time that we spent so much
04:36condensed time together.
04:37That like he really can make me laugh more than anyone in a way that's like crazy.
04:41Like we just both like understand our sensibilities.
04:43It was slightly intimidating the set when you're young because like you're so awkward as a teenager.
04:49Like I didn't have confidence.
04:50So me and Michael were kind of in our own little world.
04:52Martin Short was on our show and did this like hilarious character.
04:56Welcome, Uncle Jack.
04:57He's half deaf.
04:58It was a stupid, stupid hire.
05:01Not hire!
05:02Eye level!
05:03Eye level!
05:04I remember me and Michael were just like, there was a moment when he was there where we were like,
05:09this is crazy that we get to watch this firsthand and be in a scene with this like legend doing
05:14this insane comedy.
05:15Like physical, over the top, detailed character work, like just really elaborate.
05:21And we're just kind of in the corner like, oh yeah, it's my life.
05:23She's no bigger than one of my legs.
05:26Shake them for her.
05:29Excuse me, Uncle Jack.
05:30I'm George Michael.
05:31It's okay!
05:32Just ignore it!
05:33Here we go.
05:35This is Love Lies Bleeding and we were in Albuquerque.
05:37That's right!
05:38Yeah.
05:39Albuquerque.
05:40What a place.
05:40What a quirky place.
05:42Yeah, this was just like in the middle of nowhere.
05:44They just built this gym inside this like old kind of empty warehouse.
05:46Rose wanted it to look like the idea of an American city on the cusp of like rot, but like
05:52kind of retrospectively and like kind of generic and just on the outskirts.
05:57And just like anyone could fucking live there.
05:59Like it doesn't take place in a particular place.
06:01This was a perfect background for just a kind of like generalized like landscape of, you know, just like, hmm.
06:09America.
06:10Yeah.
06:10I feel like it can play for so many places.
06:13And that's not to say that it doesn't have a specificity that is also beautiful and a culture that is
06:18like, you know, interesting.
06:19It does feel a little bit like anything could happen.
06:21I don't have bad things to say about Albuquerque.
06:23It was just that it was like a surreal part of the United States to spend while hyper fixated on
06:30this particular story.
06:31I saw it through this lens.
06:33It would be interesting to spend time there not making a film because I was like, this place is weird.
06:38Because we were like kind of thinking about where we come from in that way anyway, kind of inherently.
06:43You know what they do have like something sick called like Christmas enchiladas where they do both red and green
06:48sauce.
06:49Cute.
06:50And that's tight.
06:51Yeah.
06:52Uh, this is for me.
06:54I guess it's from that show Severance.
06:57Right?
06:58Yeah.
06:58That's so funny.
06:59We shot it on a soundstage.
07:02So, in Brooklyn.
07:04I literally went into a soundstage that looked like the innie world because I was just an innie character in
07:09an episode.
07:10So you were never outside.
07:11Literally never outside.
07:12I know.
07:12And the set looked, you know, it's like, have you seen the show?
07:16It's okay if you haven't.
07:18You ready?
07:18But it looks like.
07:20Yeah.
07:25It's in Holmpell, New Jersey.
07:28Okay, well there you go.
07:29Holmpell.
07:29Holmpell.
07:30What you all did was one of the most painful moments in the history of this company.
07:36What the hell?
07:37It looked so sterile in there, you know?
07:40And I had to wear the same thing every day.
07:41I was only in one episode and it took two weeks to shoot.
07:44Was it good?
07:44Yeah.
07:45People told me I should watch it.
07:46It was fun. No, it's good.
07:46It's like a lot of information, you know?
07:49So you're gonna have to like really get on board for like connecting all the dots and that kind of
07:53stuff.
07:53Ben Stiller directed the episode I was in and I'm like a really big fan of his.
07:56He was really cool.
07:57And he was so specific.
07:58Like he'd come in and be like,
08:00All right, let's go again.
08:02And I was like, really Ben?
08:03And then we would.
08:07We'd do like 50 takes.
08:09I had this whole story because there's like innies and outies.
08:12So it's like you're someone on the outside and then on the inside you're, you don't remember.
08:15Show about belly buttons.
08:16Literally.
08:18Honestly, yeah.
08:18I had a plan that she was gonna be a heavy partier and smoker and come in all hungover.
08:24That's funny.
08:24And then you changed it last second.
08:26How did you find that out?
08:27But I thought that it would be funny if someone's outie was like a heavy smoker and drank a lot.
08:32So then their innie had no memory and just felt like shit all the time.
08:35It was like edgy.
08:36It was like, God, I don't know why I want something.
08:39I don't know what it is.
08:40It wasn't a last minute change.
08:41I think they were just like, yeah, that's not gonna read.
08:43I was gonna say, last minute choice to not do it.
08:45Or were they like, no.
08:46No.
08:47Literally.
08:47Literally.
08:47I had this like whole elaborate plan and I was like, wouldn't they be kind of funnier?
08:50Like all of a sudden I throw up.
08:51And then Ben Stiller, your hero.
08:52Yeah.
08:53He was like, no.
08:54He goes, that's funny.
08:55I don't think so.
08:56There was so much story that they were already doing and that was just like a bit part.
08:59They were just kind of like, we don't have the time for this.
09:03Right, right.
09:03This is like an economical, like pretty precise.
09:06Totally.
09:06They're like, say the fucking lines.
09:09Christian, does this ring any bells?
09:11Yes.
09:11At first I was like, was I in Anatomy of a Fall?
09:15Seriously, it looks just like that.
09:16Yeah.
09:17This is from Clouds of Sils Maria.
09:18Ding, ding, ding.
09:19And do you remember the name of the location?
09:20Yeah.
09:21Wait a second.
09:21Oh my God.
09:22This is so embarrassing.
09:22We were in the Swiss Alps.
09:24We were in like, hold on.
09:26St. Merez?
09:27That's where I was living.
09:29Oh yeah.
09:29And then maybe we drove out somewhere wild.
09:31South.
09:32Tirol.
09:32Tirol.
09:33Italy.
09:34Okay, cool.
09:34Well, we shot in two locations.
09:36I actually do have like, what we, what you would call like an anecdote about.
09:40Well, now's a perfect time.
09:42Hiking through this location.
09:43Juliette Binoche plays my boss and I'm her personal assistant.
09:48Yes, this is Valentin, Maria, Maria, Maria Andrews' personal assistant.
09:52We have this dynamic that is a bit of a power play, but one that is kind of like affectionate,
09:57but really touchy and like the generation gap, all of it is just like a really interesting,
10:03like frictional, but like kind of loving, bizarre exchange.
10:06And she's like, hey, you should come on a walk with me tomorrow.
10:08And I was like, cool.
10:10And we go out and we don't come back for like 12 hours.
10:13Oh my God.
10:14I spend all night thinking about Helena's death.
10:17Her death?
10:19She doesn't necessarily die.
10:21She just, she disappears.
10:23And like, I swear she was just like mountain goading around in front of me to be like,
10:27I'm going to outrun you kid.
10:29Try and keep up.
10:30And I was like.
10:32Wait, this wasn't in the movie.
10:33This is.
10:33No, she was like making them.
10:35We were making the movie.
10:36Oh, she's that kind of actor.
10:38I like that.
10:38Yeah.
10:38But it was cool.
10:39And I was like, I mean, out the mountains, they're unbelievable in South Tyrol.
10:42This was when we were in like, uh, St. Moritz, but the mountains, they're gorgeous.
10:46It was cool.
10:46She like learned me some stuff and I was like, dang, respect.
10:50She's like, I'm triggered by this photo.
10:52And get away.
10:53Some are good triggers.
10:54Yeah.
10:55This is from twice.
10:58Tamazon, the Yucatan, Mexico.
11:01Making memories.
11:02We were at this crazy old hotel and I'm going to get it wrong now.
11:07But this was like a jungle location, you know, and they were like, it's a resort.
11:10Just knowing that kind of creepy.
11:12Oh yeah.
11:13The vibes were super high ghost level wise.
11:15I mean, it was just like so ghosty and we lived on the location.
11:18So there was no like going home.
11:20Do you get scared alone and stuff in your little room?
11:24Yeah.
11:24We took over the whole place.
11:25So it was also kind of rad.
11:26Cause at night we'd all just like wander on the grass and like drink and hang out and have dinner
11:29together every night.
11:30But the days I wasn't shooting, I would go out into that main level and like be trying to have
11:34a salad.
11:35And then like some AD would be like, get down, get down.
11:37And I was like, what?
11:38And he's like, put your camera.
11:39Like in the background.
11:40You're in the movie.
11:40But you're not supposed to be in the movie.
11:42Exactly.
11:42And I was like, it's my fucking day off.
11:44You know?
11:44And so I couldn't escape.
11:45Only on the weekends would we head into Merida, which was the closest city.
11:50But to get to this location was like a bumpy two hour, like jungle jungle vibes.
11:55There was huge snakes they would find.
11:57There was lizards every day, bugs, like all kinds of crazy creatures.
12:01And it was really hot and the AC didn't always work, but I had a great time.
12:05So do you think the human sacrifice is before or after dinner?
12:08Oh boy.
12:09Yes.
12:10That is oppressive.
12:13Wow.
12:14This is your weekend home.
12:15Yeah.
12:15This is where I lived for a little while.
12:18I'm trying to remember if this was the castle that we all lived in.
12:20This is a, this or whatever.
12:22I don't know what they call them.
12:22What's the name of the film, Kristen?
12:24This answer.
12:25Yeah.
12:25Oh, interesting.
12:26I thought it would have been, do you remember the location?
12:28No.
12:29I mean, we were in Germany.
12:30Yeah.
12:30It's Germany.
12:31I'm surprised.
12:31I thought it would have been in the UK.
12:33Yeah, but which one?
12:34Because we moved around.
12:34We had like many palaces, you know?
12:36Honestly, these words I don't understand.
12:38Nordkirchen.
12:38Oh yeah, of course.
12:39Nordkirchen.
12:40Yes.
12:40I've heard many ADs say that.
12:41We're going back to Nordkirchen.
12:43Nordkirchen.
12:43That was probably not how.
12:46There are no signs anywhere.
12:51Where am I?
12:53I love the German straightforwardness and efficiency actually a lot.
12:58I really love working on movies in Germany.
13:02I fucking love it.
13:03I'm like, don't mince words.
13:04Stay completely unemotional until you bust, which I love.
13:08Also you.
13:09Yeah.
13:09It's cool to absorb an environment because we're lucky enough to be able to travel and make movies
13:13and kind of immerse ourselves in these places.
13:15I know, look at how many cool places we've already been.
13:16But sometimes I look at these photos and I go, that was the only place that my brain was.
13:21Do you know what I mean?
13:21Yeah.
13:21I was like literally locked in that fucking building and that was it.
13:25And then we would go and get some steins of beers that was like the size of my torso.
13:30Sauerkromb beer.
13:31Yeah, man.
13:32Okay.
13:34That's us.
13:35Right?
13:36Yeah.
13:36That's our little car, isn't it?
13:38Yeah.
13:39We should go.
13:41Trying to get us some tunes.
13:43Yeah.
13:43It just feels like time sensitive.
13:48Oh no, dude.
13:49We're on the fucking Outwater Bridge.
13:50Oh, nice.
13:51Good call.
13:52Yeah.
13:52Beautiful.
13:53That's one of my favorite spots in LA.
13:54That's that.
13:55That's the wrong girls.
13:56That's LA, baby.
13:57Driving on the freeway.
13:57I feel like we just got to shoot in locations I never shot that I normally hang in.
14:01We were on the east side and in the valley where I'm from.
14:04I was like, oh, this is like 10 minutes away.
14:05Yeah.
14:06You know?
14:06We were in Van Nuys and Echo Park.
14:08Yeah.
14:08And like, where's the 6th Street warehouse?
14:11That's downtown.
14:12And it was like, everything was around the corner from a great coffee shop, which was like
14:16really satisfying to me.
14:17Yeah, dude.
14:17And that makes you really a nice guy.
14:20Oh, you're in a great mood.
14:21Yeah.
14:21I was like, we got good coffee nearby.
14:23Allie is stoked.
14:24I'm happy.
14:26I wish Oasis would get back together.
14:28Oasis is back together, dude.
14:30How did these girls happen to me?
14:31That was great.
14:34I think we did very good.
14:35Very, very good.
14:37I enjoyed the memories we've made.
14:40You have made my best memories.
14:44And the good night.
14:45Yeah, I think we killed it.
14:46Thanks for having us.
14:47Yeah, thank you.
14:47That was fun.
