PUFFIN SPOTTED CLUTCHING NESTING MATERIAL AS IT HURRIES TO JOIN CLIFFSIDE COLONY
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A charming moment captures a determined puffin clutching a twig in its beak as it hurries down the stairs, across the cliffs to rejoin its colony in Iceland.
The footage was filmed by Agnieszka Stefania, shot at Hafnarhólmi, one of the Iceland's best-known puffin-watching spots.
With its bright beak and determined stride, the tiny seabird appears to be on a mission to “move in” with its neighbours.
Beyond the humour and charm, the moment highlights a key stage in puffin behaviour, as the birds return to the same nesting sites each year to rebuild burrows and prepare for raising chicks.
Agnieszka said: “Just now at Hafnarhólmi, Borgarfjörður Eystri this one already had a branch in its beak, ready to move in.
“Many people wait until summer to see puffins, but they are already back, preparing their burrows.
“There’s nothing quite like the fiery glow of an Icelandic sunset, with puffins perched on the cliffs.
Endearing comments flood in from viewers:
One viewer said: “Puffin has a plan."
The second viewer said: "You're doing great spreading awareness about visiting puffins in the off-season, keep sharing your amazing content”
A third said, “ Puffins are the most beautiful birds.”
