00:02why is adam schefter continuing to talk about george pickens wanting to be traded and is there
00:10anything tied to marquez valdez scantling one of three veterans that the dallas cowboys signed
00:18yesterday this is inside the star here on sean and rj with our insider bobby bell god there
00:24better not be man if that's your uh if you're like we're getting contingencies in place let's
00:28go get mvs that would be that'd be pretty disturbing but dawson may brought us just bust out yesterday
00:33on gbag when he's like he sucks he brought us like had this like admiration that dawson said
00:40something so blunt right there off a new brand new cowboys acquisition if only brian could be so
00:45blunt about players and talent acquisition um now the cowboys did bring in marquez valdez scantling
00:51they also brought in another receiver tyler johnson who i vaguely remember us doing coming out of
00:56minnesota about five six years ago we did him um no we did him like we evaluated him that's what
01:02i
01:02meant um and then they got a linebacker curtis robinson the curtis robinson one seems a little
01:07more notable to me just because of there's connections there he had been with christian
01:11parker for a few games in denver um he was in san francisco the last couple years and that's
01:17obviously nick sorenson there's clearly a sorenson connection to a lot of these the fact that they
01:21trade for d winners they signed curtis robinson and they talked about aziz al shair um but i think
01:27curtis johnson he's got a real chance or curtis robinson he's got a real chance to stick because
01:31he actually plays special teams has a little bit of starting experience very little bit has played for
01:36a couple people on your coaching staff so that would make sense if he ends up being a rotational guy
01:40that sticks here but i would hope not that marquez valdez scantling would be any sort of a replacement
01:45for george pickens which i don't think he is mvs is 31 split time between san francisco and pittsburgh
01:51basically just follow around aaron rogers for employment and none of it has stuck i think this
01:57will be his eighth team uh i could not believe like when bobby texted that he was that old like
02:03i could
02:03not believe he's gonna be 32 in like two months or something i think it's i thought it was october
02:07but
02:08yeah it's it's yeah it's october 10th i could not believe that that but that just blew my mind because
02:12it felt like he just got the league around covid give me the depth chart after lamb and pickens
02:17it's uh lamb pickens flannoy
02:22uh turpin uh turpin mingo depending on how they stack those so from that standpoint i totally get
02:29and support them adding sure another receiver or more receivers absolutely flannoy we feel good about
02:35is he absolutely a sure thing but after ryan nothing no so you need a fourth um
02:42um and if it may be a fifth you know if you don't trust the other guys but you might
02:46have
02:47a fourth i i don't mingo might be as much as mingo has not worked out yet he was a
02:51second round pick
02:52a couple years ago and just has not like gotten a whole lot of opportunity he might be good enough
02:56to be a fourth you're not going to use that guy a ton yeah i mean look if you're looking
03:00for 20
03:00catches from somebody even you can probably find you know 30 catches maybe maybe scantley could do that
03:05but it's all right that that's what we're talking about we're we're talking about somebody who's
03:09going to give you maybe a catcher game speaking of receivers this sent me into a tizzy yesterday
03:15because i'm in this fantastic great cowboy mood going out to the star today just to look at the
03:23building in which the cowboys executed all this draft greatness and then adam schefter goes on pat
03:30mcafee and says this he wants a long-term contract or he would like a trade they have been very
03:37clear
03:37that they're not going to give him a long-term contract so now that leaves them in a position
03:42both sides i think that's a little bit unsettled at this current moment george piggins signed the
03:49tender so he is now contractually obligated to be there for me how many times is adam schefter
03:57going to screw this up change what he's saying basically no he keeps saying that he signed the
04:04tender and each time todd archer has to come in and clean it up and put out the tweet and
04:10the
04:11clarification that george has not signed it yet and adam said this the day of the draft getting
04:18everybody all worked up that they're going to deal him on the clock and then he said it again yesterday
04:23followed by todd coming out and clearing it up and saying he has not signed the tender and adam
04:28schefter's like a very important note here something to note uh i guess uh george piggins has not signed
04:34the tender he's not signed it is he's saying multiple times that he signed it let's go ahead
04:39and play it george piggins signed the tender so he is now contractually obligated to be there for
04:46mini camps for training camp he has to be there now we'll see how that works out he wants to
04:52be traded
04:53i think you don't just sign that tender willy-nilly like oh i feel like signing the tender
05:00today like on the day there there had to be some sort of motive that he had now i do
05:08believe that
05:10there were people that were trying to get him traded during the draft looking to other teams
05:14would you have any interest teams got calls about that but nothing materialized i don't think it's
05:20entirely off the table that at some point in time he could be traded even though the cowboys
05:25have been adamant that they have no plans to trade him at some point in time if there's a team
05:30that's
05:30willing to give them a decent enough haul in return i would think it might be in everybody's best interest
05:36at that time at least three different times he's mentioning george being traded that the cowboys called
05:43on draft day to other teams and he starts off that clip by saying george wants to be dealt still
05:51he's not going to get the long-term deal which we don't believe he is going to get what the
05:56hell bobby
05:57i think the fact that by the way mcafee show took this down pretty quickly i tune in the g
06:07-bag and i
06:07say in in a now deleted tweet normally what happens in that instance is george pickens people get wind
06:14of this get a hold of this and start furiously texting schefter that's not accurate that is not
06:21the truth take that down or go ahead and retract it and given that in the same breath he was
06:28saying
06:28something so factually incorrect and it was then taken down the entirety of the tweet then that
06:37means that that sounds like that was just not correct what he said and i haven't i don't think
06:44he's asked for a trade i don't think he wants to be traded like you don't sign the thing if
06:47you want
06:47to be traded i don't think you can sign like like that's one way you can trade is imminent right
06:51that's
06:52one way you can get traded otherwise you can just negotiate a deal you would just negotiate a deal
06:55work something out and get that done rather than trade and accept the tag and then have to work
07:01around that but i mean they've got till july 15th to get something done even after he's potentially
07:06signed the tender but i just i think that oh what are we holding up here what what he's got
07:12a sign
07:13on the fan camp david muligheta did you google that before you spelled it because it looks correct
07:18i had to google it yeah um but he he was never gonna play here on the tag anyway he's
07:24playing here on
07:25the tag he's he's gonna demand a trade that's what he's not gonna demand a chapter just said
07:29he's gonna manage it shefter also said he signed the tag about five times is also an idiot i'm gonna
07:32say both the same time that he's smart i just did okay i just did i don't care about what
07:39chapter said about the tag that's semantics okay because he's gonna sign the tag not semantics that
07:44is a fact he has not signed the tag i i can believe that shefter had his information incorrect
07:50about signing the tag and also believe that shefter has insight that george pickett's team
07:55is gonna ask for a trade i think you can believe both i don't think it has anything to do
08:00with i
08:00don't think it diminishes his credibility i don't get all hopped up on whether a guy pronounces a name
08:04right so i miss i mispronounce all the time in a related story i have no credibility so i really
08:09can't even go with myself on that one but he was never gonna play on the franchise tag i don't
08:14think
08:15this is a bet to make this is not david's bet to make it's not david it's not in his
08:20mo or his dna
08:21to allow a player to do this he allowed him to do it last year he never lets people play
08:27out the
08:27rookie contracts either i think that was a different situation last year right no but i'm saying he
08:34never lets people play out the rookie contracts either and he did that well why is that a different
08:37situation because george pickens at that time was not worth and as george pickens reputation regardless
08:42of how you feel about how he played regardless of how you feel about it again this is the broadest
08:47argument i don't feel that way hold on the stats this is the broadest argument again of what the
08:51league thinks regardless of how you feel about it the league has not changed their opinion on like
08:55how whether they think it's a risk to pay him so it's the same question and same equation they
09:01were looking at last year so the the motivation to potentially play on the tag or the the need to
09:06play on the tag is the same as it was to play on the rookie deal do you think that
09:09his value today
09:12uh not not not necessarily a trade value because that comes with uh trade and pay do you think
09:18his dollar figure that he could get on the open market is the same today as it was last year
09:23of
09:24course not no right but the reservation to pay him what he's worth is equally the same i think the
09:30reservation is to pay him and give up picks for him they would have they would have all people only
09:36would have paid him last year on a discount off of what he was worth and similarly they will only
09:39pay
09:39him on a discount off what he's worth i think i think there's there's multiple teams out there
09:43that would give him 30 to 35 million where are they now they're not going to give him 35 million
09:47a year with the first round pick they can negotiate something lower and they haven't it's still a lot
09:51let me play the second clip what's a lot i think for some i think there is some of that
09:56what you're
09:57saying with there's a concern let's him play this out he's taking a third max third round comp
10:02might actually be a fourth because of the way the contract structure works if a team called and said
10:07we'll give you a guaranteed third that's before the comp rounds that's more compensation than
10:11they'll get for just playing this out i don't know man if he's if there's no picks attached to him
10:16like nothing no compensation and he's just a complete understood free agent i mean i think there's plenty
10:21of teams that offer i think we've seen 12 straight months of evidence that teams are just hesitant to
10:26pay him adams then followed up with another statement on mcafee that had pat and i'm like what are you
10:31what are you talking about and then shefter tries to clarify when he says that pickens is more
10:37tradable than micah was the dallas cowboys also said last year i believe that they weren't trading
10:42micah parsons and they were out there trading him and george will be more tradable than micah parsons
10:48so even though dallas says it's not trading him i still believe that a trade will be alive it will
10:54follow that team and him throughout the summer and forgive me for being uh ignorant and naive but
11:01there had to be a reason why he signed that franchise tender what i'm saying is the cowboys
11:07said that they weren't trading micah parsons in this particular case they're not married long term
11:12to george pickens they've already said they're not extending him they were extend they wanted to
11:17keep micah parsons long time the dallas cowboys have basically advertised that as much as we like george
11:23pickens we're not signing them to a long-term deal so there's no long-term commitment so if there's no
11:29long-term commitment they would be more apt in my mind to trade george pickens than they were micah
11:35parsons at this time last year we know how that went last year now they're saying that they don't
11:40intend to trade george pickens that's their plan but my point is if they traded parsons then i think
11:48pickens is even more tradable than parsons was a year ago adam's spread to thin or something i
11:54don't know what's going on i wrote that down that he's he he's missed on that too they have very
11:59publicly stated whether you believe them or not they've publicly stated multiple times they want
12:03to sign him here long term they've just said oh we haven't done something but they've said multiple
12:07times we want him here for the long term they've used that phrase multiple times all right so rj choppy
12:12just give a statement prediction yeah just say the opposite of whatever i just said well i mean
12:17it's look they can i don't necessarily care what they say publicly what they say publicly isn't
12:22exactly yeah doesn't mean anything right uh i mean it might mean something yeah what shefter
12:27accidentally says means something you you believe what what's gonna happen i mean he's not gonna play
12:34for the cowboys this upcoming season i think he's gonna demand to get traded now he may not acquiesce to
12:40that okay but he's gonna ask to be traded i don't think he's gonna sit around and just just accept
12:45the franchise if he demanded out i think they would work with him
