00:03:12boots that she gets into her car susan takes off as well and you see jeff sort of walking out

00:03:17his car in the parking lot but it's sort of like oh it's a little bit populated because he's leaving
00:03:21with like the rush of people leaving as the place closes got you um can i see like which car

00:03:28heading towards is there enough space between like where he's going and other people potentially like
00:03:35enough space is a measure of how stealthy you can be or right like so but yeah you think that

00:05:14village and gets out of his car and starts walking towards one of the trailers oh boy man feel bad

00:08:58back in the 1970s and he wasn't ever allowed to say nothing about what it was
00:09:04but he doesn't live here anymore he moved out to medford when i was uh first started working
00:09:09he worked for a lot of years on a project the government had serious money it was one of the
00:09:15few things that a lot of guys in town got construction work out of it a lot of the firms
00:09:19moved out
00:09:20about the time of the late i'd say you know late 80s it sort of work dried up but there
00:09:26was a big
00:09:27public works project uh up in the hills on the other side of the interstate and he never was allowed
00:09:32to say what it was but you know he said it was like oh we're working on public parks we're
00:09:37working
00:09:37on something else but there ain't no big public park that takes 15 years to build or nothing like
00:09:43that so it's just we always had a joke about they were building tunnels out in the mountains
00:09:50oh okay and it was you know dumb kids in the neighborhood would say that you know they'd seen
00:09:57it or that they was building a nuclear silo or they was you know they was building something to
00:10:03launch something to knock sputnik out of the sky or something like that but this was a long long time
00:10:08ago okay did you hear any besides just the hills did anyone ever suggest where they may have seen it
00:10:16or was it just kids talking there was an area near the interstate that had chain link fence up on
00:10:24it
00:10:24all throughout when i was a kid that came down in the again in the late 80s and it's all
00:10:30you know
00:10:31it's nature reserve and stuff like that and you know it's it's uh uh woods and it's undeveloped but
00:10:37there were old sites out there you know so a lot of kids have gone up looking around there no
00:10:43one's
00:10:43ever found nothing but in terms of where if the if it were ever real no one ever found an
00:10:52entrance out
00:10:52there and a lot of people said because it was built up in the mountains it was deep underground
00:10:56but i don't know i i couldn't it's a it's a legend so that's all it was you guys were

00:11:01it i just it's like it's like something from childhood coming back to life sure yeah that makes
00:11:06sense and then it was like you got really excited at at one point like what do you what were

00:11:10pumped about like you just seemed jazzed you see he sort of shrugs and says i don't know you know
00:11:17there was look one time when i was a kid these two guys came by the park for a funeral

00:11:27see he points into creanet village and you see that for a trailer park there is a large bronze
00:11:32statue in the trailer park you see of a man who's wearing what looks like some kind of like carpenter's
00:11:41jeans and a sort of tight-fitting t-shirt looks a little norman rockwell-y and you see that he's
00:11:46got
00:11:46a carpenter's hammer on a loop on his pants and he's holding a knife in one hand and there's a
00:11:52plaque on it saying zackie le maple zackie le maple zackie lee maple and you see that he says
00:12:02uh zackie's kind of a hero of the trailer park here he was uh he secured a lot of contracts
00:12:09for folks
00:12:10here working on those public works projects when he passed away these fellas came to the funeral
00:12:17i would have i would have been i don't know 14 or 15 they looked like government they looked like

00:12:26you know they came they had black suits they came and paid their respects they talked to some of the
00:12:31people in the town and they you know headed on their way but i swear that i heard them mention

00:16:22um the main things that downtime does is it returns your health willpower and hunger uh and any of
00:16:28spent advantages all the way back to full uh so you would all go back down to one hunger because

00:16:35guys wouldn't be exsanguinating anybody um and uh uh basically it's a way for you guys to if you
00:16:41have longer term things you want to do you guys have talked about buying certain places doing certain
00:16:45things like that you have the ability to do so uh over downtime it's basically just big group
00:16:51checks where you're like racking up successes to get stuff done um but that's uh it's not something
00:16:57that we need to necessarily do this episode but just putting out there that you guys have the ability
00:17:02to like line get all your ducks in a row and then pull the trigger on here's what we want

00:19:15or something this place does sort of have x-files vibe yeah the mines here yeah oh mine's here
00:19:22it's over here mine's here dolly's here over here yeah do you think he got washed all the way down
00:19:27there oh maybe could be or maybe his home was on canal street that was another thought i had oh

00:19:34um okay i really want to know more about these whitakers were they involved with the government
00:19:41where they're like where do they would live now in the town are any of those buildings the like
00:19:46retirement community yes one of them is one of them is whittaker yeah yeah it's um is that the one
00:19:51that has like um silver meadows senior center it was dignity golden bounty golden bounty is under
00:19:58construction new one dignity is the other one but silver meadows is the one owned by whitaker but our
00:20:03soon-to-be business partner suz also mentioned what i mean when those names came up seemed to have
00:20:08a very ill very ill reaction to them with regard to the city council there's also someone named
00:20:14zachie lee maple that has a statue to him over in the trailer park we met an older gentleman named

00:20:21coop who has been in the town for a long time could probably help us catch up i'm gonna send
00:20:25him a text and we should go to lunch with them a long a long long late evening lunch if

00:21:47other man owned by seraphim so dignity dignity uh living solutions is the national chain that
00:21:53appears to be owned by a large like multinational oh dignity is already built so the under construction
00:21:57one is that was the one that seemed connected to the douglases the douglases i'm sort of vaguely
00:22:03wondering because um i have a food intolerance to anybody who isn't of noble lineage oh yeah whether
00:22:09they're in the context of this town i wonder if the whitick is in the douglas or somebody that i

00:38:32bouldering stuff around there that appears to attract some like actual traveling hikers that come
00:38:37through because it's right off the interstate but it actually is some beautiful nature however that's not
00:38:42unfortunately that's not the real airbnb story these airbnbs many of them either five or ten x their
00:38:51value uh during the month of may and you discover that perpy oregon for all of its back woodiness and
00:39:01all of its you know defunctness is home to the week-long laurent horror festival
00:39:09as perpy state university a small no account state university happens to have in its spring semester
00:39:18notable english professor estelle laurent who is one of the world's most famous horror authors um
00:39:26she is a everyone here would have heard of estelle laurent before she's written the shimmering legends of

00:46:15going on here and more so than that whatever's happening magically here may not even be as sinister
00:46:21as what is happening in broad daylight the business is moving into this place the families that seek to
00:46:26control it whatever's happening with city council and urgent care shut down other places shut down
00:46:31you guys see before you a vast canvas this town has forces at work in it and as you have
00:46:40started to size
00:46:41it up you begin to see what were dim shapes in the fog emerge as levers of action there's stuff

00:52:49semis that are parked here refueling um and you see that uh there's mama angie's diner which is a true
00:52:55old classic uh uh diner off the interstate there you sort of looking around the interstate you you know you
00:53:03get off on your feet and kind of move around but you don't see anything except maybe an old post
00:53:09of that kind of chain link fence yeah that jeff was talking about does it look like because he said
00:53:14in the 70s is when it seemed like there was construction yeah does it's just looking at
00:53:20like the architecture of these two buildings does it look like they were built after that
00:53:23you both look and i think as you're looking around zaith on those three successes as dark

00:56:46going you guys head down the stairs the railing moves around a corner you see that there is a what
00:56:53looks like a walk-in and then there's another door that is closed and then there's a door past it
00:56:59to a men's room and a ladies room we open the doors that are men's room and ladies rooms uh

00:57:05the fridge fridge looks like just a walk-in and take something take something put in your pocket
00:57:09you open the other door uh it looks like a sort of little cement hallway there's a mop uh up
00:57:13against
00:57:14it this is now away from the railing with the ladle uh at the end of the hallway with the
00:57:18mop you can
00:57:18see that there's another wooden door that has a little caution sign on it um let's go proceed
00:57:24cautiously i take the mop and i go into the poke the use the mop mop to poke the door
00:57:30open you poke
00:57:32that door open this looks like a larger kind of boiler room there are about four industrial sized
00:57:38boilers this room is slightly larger and you can see at the back there are two larger kind of heavy
00:57:46wooden doors that uh one of them uh has sort of like a what looks like a a crossing sign
00:57:55on it
00:57:56and you see that the other one has a sort of danger electricity on it let's go danger electricity yeah
00:58:02all right great open danger by the way yeah i'm sorry i've been giving you such a hard time
00:58:09just because i respect you okay yeah stop stealing stuff and we're gonna go
00:58:15all right uh you open this room there is a small seat to the side looks like there's like a

00:58:21kitchenette coffee maker in here there is a large electrical panel it's very dust covered in here
00:58:27large electrical panel multiple different screens and gauges it's about a 15 foot wide console panel in
00:58:36this room in the floor to the left you see that there is a small almost like the guardrail of
00:58:42a spiral
00:58:42staircase but with a circular hatch door in the floor awesome open the door let's go and i'm

00:58:55there's some really neat stuff we think the tunnels are under the freaking diner whoa that's so

01:00:31you open it um you are looking at an airplane hangar sized subterranean place there are two rows of
01:00:41three crucibles each these crucibles uh have vents where something like molten steel would have poured out
01:00:49into them it is now completely defunct in here both of you feel a hollow staleness to the air
01:00:57down here no one's been down here in a long long time it's like you see that this vault was
01:01:01like
01:01:01vacuum sealed there is a uh an corrugated steel uh catwalk that goes out about i don't know a good
01:01:11uh an corrugated 60 feet above the floor up here like fully like over these massive crucibles towards
01:01:18a central silo that looks like the base of a radio tower that is at the far end of the
01:01:25crucibles that
01:01:26appears to have uh nothing is is lit in here everything is like either lights from your phone or your
01:01:33own
01:01:33vampiric sort of seeing in the dark uh but you look out and see that there are some dull very
01:01:38dull
01:01:39red lights on the exterior of this central radio tower column can i make an awareness check yeah
01:01:46go for it yeah i actually have pretty good uh would i add anything to that intelligence or wits or
01:01:51or resolve or anything this would be uh awareness plus wits
