00:00Somebody has to be the voice of John Henry.
00:01He literally said that at some point.
00:03He's like, well, we have a job to do.
00:04John Henry's not going to talk.
00:06We have our jobs.
00:07This is our job.
00:08That's his job.
00:09He's speaking on his behalf.
00:10Sam should have taken credit for the cooler cups that are being sold at Fenway.
00:15Oh, great idea.
00:15It's the best part of the season thus far.
00:17You love those.
00:17I do.
00:18I only have one.
00:19If the Red Sox are listening, I'd be happy to take the other ones off your hands.
00:22I have the green one.
00:23But he should have been like, guys, by the way, I know there's a lot of negativity right now.
00:26But if you try these cooler cups, Keefe did a video, a viral video, where you can fit 16-ounce
00:32beer in there, no problem.
00:32Yeah.
00:33You can do that.
00:33Happy Gilmore pumping Subway.
00:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:35You can do that.
00:36He should have had them on the desk.
00:37They're in Baltimore.
00:38You see the sign behind them?
00:39So weird.
00:39It said Orioles a thousand times.
00:41Yeah.
00:42Like a thousand times behind them.
00:44They should have had those little koozie cups.
00:45I'm like, oh, by the way, these cooler cups?
00:46My idea.
00:47Should have come out in like Red Sox City Connect uniforms.
00:49The green ones have been like, these are mine too.
00:51I also came up with this.
00:52This color scheme.
00:53What do you guys think of that?
00:53I'm doing my thing.
00:54100%.
00:54So anyway, at least there he said we about Craig Breslow, who now, make no mistake, is like squarely on
01:01the hottest of hot seats.
01:02This is this guy's team now because if Chad Tracy makes a mistake, that's on Breslow.
01:07If the trade deadline is another stinker, that's on Breslow.
01:11If, you know, within the guys they have on the roster, like depending on who's called up or who isn't
01:15called up or that kind of thing, that's on Breslow.
01:18Like Breslow's going to wear this.
01:19If another manager is underachieving with the roster, it's not an underachievement anymore.
01:23It's the roster.
01:24Yeah.
01:24My belief today, and I think yesterday, it's only one game, but yesterday helped strengthen it a little bit, is
01:30they were underachieving because the manager wanted to get, is it possible Cora wanted to get fired?
01:35It was like these little protests, right?
01:36He always had a little protest.
01:38He keeps saying he's happy.
01:39And, oh, no, he told reporters, and then he made sure he put it out on social media, and he
01:43replied all to an organization-wide email at 4 a.m., according to Chris Cotillo.
01:50Reply all at 4 a.m.?
01:52Oh, the Cora's will be just fine with a little winky emoji.
01:55So, like, he wants to let you know he's happy.
01:57I doubt he is.
01:58I don't know how he can be happy.
02:00Now, there's two things in play here.
02:02You are getting paid, being Alex Cora, the rest of your contract, and you don't need to do anything other
02:07than go out to dinner and put it on Instagram.
02:09So, I guess, like, in that sense, like, you're okay.
02:11It's not like a lot of other people lose their job, but they're, like, freaking out on how to, you
02:16know, support themselves and their family.
02:18So, there's not that.
02:19But, like, you got fired 27 games into a baseball season, and, like, you're a manager.
02:23Like, that at some point is embarrassing.
02:26It is.
02:26So, he can claim he's happy all he wants.
02:28And maybe he is, like, Jim Montgomery, Keith, and he's already got a job lined up somewhere.
02:33Like, maybe that's why he was openly trying to protest and get fired.
02:36I mean, the Mets and Phillies both could use a manager, probably.
02:39Maybe Cora already knows.
02:42I've heard that before about Cora.
02:43I'll believe it when I see it.
02:44But maybe Cora already knows.
02:45Well, if I get fired, Dombrowski's got me.
02:48So, whatever.
02:49I don't care.
02:49I'm going to complain about the extensions.
02:51I'm going to complain about the logjam.
02:53And I'm going to complain about the youth on the roster.
02:55And I'm going to mope around.
02:56And if I get myself fired, oh, well, I still get my $7 million a year.
03:00And Dombrowski's going to hire me.
03:01Or Steve Cohen's going to hire me or whatever.
03:03I don't believe that he's happy, but he might have his next thing lined up Jim Montgomery style.
03:07I wouldn't rule that out.
03:08That's probably the case.
03:11Breslow, though, now.
03:11Twitch chat.
03:12Jones.
03:13You better hope your boy can turn this season around.
03:17That's your guy.
03:17You guys better hope he doesn't.
03:19You guys better hope he doesn't.
03:20Because if Breslow turns it around, it's going to be pretty clear who was right and wrong.
03:23But I'm with you now.
03:24Oh, yeah.
03:25If the team continues to stink, it's on him.
03:28And you know who told us that yesterday?
03:30A bunch of times?
03:32Sam Kennedy.
03:33This one was more damning.
03:34This is great, Nick.
03:35He doubled down on like, no, no, no.
03:37This is on Bres.
03:39Sam, you said that Craig's made meaningful decisions over his tenure here and that this
03:43is one of them.
03:44Is it fair then to characterize this particular decision as, you know, Craig led?
03:50Absolutely.
03:51I mean, we hired Craig to be our chief baseball officer.
03:54He runs the baseball operation.
03:56We are a front office-led baseball operation.
04:00And our job is to support the entire group the best we possibly can.
04:06And that's what we did in this instance.
04:09Hold on.
04:09Is it a popular decision?
04:11No?
04:12It was Craig.
04:13Yeah.
04:13Guys, it was all Craig.
04:14It was his guy.
04:15I've said this before.
04:16It's true.
04:17Sam Kennedy can make it difficult to root for the Red Sox.
04:21And it makes sense because he is the voice of John Henry.
04:23And so many people want to blame John Henry for things or at least want to hear from John
04:27Henry.
04:28And they can't because he was in Baltimore hiding.
04:31He was hiding.
04:32So then Sam's in a weird spot.
04:33Like, I'm sure there are some things that he does agree with John Henry on.
04:36Then there are other things that maybe he doesn't.
04:37But he has to still voice that he does agree with him.
04:41And then that was sort of a spot because if you say that it wasn't all Breslau's decision,
04:46you're like, well, how much power does Breslau have?
04:48And then if you're like, no, it was all in Breslau, you're being kind of slimy because
04:51you're saying that, you know, for the fans that are mad about Cora going, you're like,
04:55don't put that on me.
04:56If it works, great.
04:56But if it doesn't, not me.
04:58And so did John Henry and Sam Kennedy, more so John Henry, did he want Alex Cora fired?
05:04I bet yes.
05:06I would say yes, too.
05:06No, I think Breslau certainly did.
05:08And Breslau probably did before.
05:10Breslau's probably like, can I start the season with my own guy?
05:13Breslau honestly probably never wanted to give him the extension.
05:16Right.
05:16This is all guesswork.
05:18No, I know.
05:18But I bet Henry was sick and tired of him complaining about his business model.
05:23Cora was complaining about Henry's business model, which nobody likes it.
05:27I don't trust me.
05:28I want John Henry to spend more.
05:29I think Cora has a point.
05:30But now you're openly, through Ken Rosenthal, criticizing your boss.
05:35That's going to get you fired 100 times out of 100.
05:37Yeah.
05:38So, no, I think Henry fired him.
05:40He's too, you know, chicken to come out and say it or go on the record and talk about it
05:44or show his face.
05:45But I think Henry wanted him fired and Breslau's the face of it.
05:48And if they don't turn it around, Breslau will be gone next.
05:50And by the way, despite being a Breslau guy, I think that's fair.
05:54Yeah.
05:54I think that's totally fair.
05:56Anthony is in the car.
05:57Get us started today, Anthony.
06:00Yeah, I was just calling because no one's really talking.
06:03No one wanted the Breslau job.
06:05It was like the 12th guy interviewed.
06:08So, if they were to move on again from the GM, who are they hiring?
06:12No one wants the job.
06:13It looks like a cluster F as it is.
06:15Well, Anthony, I think you're 100% right.
06:17That's another reason why he had more job security.
06:19I agree with that.
06:19Well, and I was going to say, people are talking about it.
06:21Rob Bradford has told us that numerous times, and he told us as recently as Thursday.
06:25We had to pull it out of Bradford.
06:27He's like, Breslau's not on the hot seat because of that.
06:29Right.
06:29He's like, I would have Breslau on the hot seat, but he's not.
06:33Cora's on a hotter seat because the last go-round, no one wanted the chief baseball officer job
06:38because they fired so many chief baseball officers.
06:41They have to pick one and stick with it.
06:43And then smaller on that list of guys not wanting the job is probably like, hey, we're telling you who
06:47the manager is.
06:48So, maybe it got a little bit more appealing yesterday or over the weekend.
06:51Good point.
06:51Because if you bring in a replacement for Breslau, he will also be able to pick his own manager.
06:55Good point.
06:56At the end of the year, you fire Breslau if they don't turn it around.
06:59Now, you're still like, I better get a five-year deal because you're going to fire him in two years.
07:03But you bring in a new chief baseball officer, and they can start fresh with a manager.
07:06It helps a little bit.
07:08But for everybody that hates the roster, like, real quick, I just, I agree.
07:11It doesn't fit well.
07:12And you have a lot of guys underachieving.
07:15But looking at the roster, we did this at the start of the year, and I ended up, like, coming
07:19around on, I think, on paper, it's slightly better than a year ago.
07:23And everybody freaks out about that.
07:24But if you look at some of the teams around baseball and some of the lineups that they go up
07:27against, it's not nine major league players in their lineups.
07:31There's a lot of teams that have bad groups top to bottom.
07:35So, the outfield of William Abreu, Sadon Raffaella, Jaron Duran, those are all everyday players, correct?
07:42Yeah.
07:42Roman Anthony, in this case, DH, everyday player, right?
07:45Yep.
07:45Wilson Contreras, everyday player.
07:47Mm-hmm.
07:48Marcelo Meyer, I think, is an everyday player.
07:50I would at least give him the long leash to be an everyday player, and he's getting better.
07:52I think Cora disagreed with you.
07:54I think this new guy agrees with you, and I think Meyer will be an everyday player under Chad Tracy.
07:58I can't stand Trevor Story, but he is coming off a good year.
08:01He's an everyday player.
08:02He's an everyday big leaguer, yeah.
08:03Narvaez is an everyday catcher.
08:05The only—you don't think so?
08:06I think they at least—
08:07Oh, no, you know what I mean.
08:08Who is even an everyday catcher?
08:11They have a major league catching situation.
08:14Yep, yes.
08:14The only guy that shouldn't be at the major league level or in the lineup is Caleb Durbin.
08:20And so, I think it magnifies things because the Devers-Bregman replacement at the position,
08:25not in the lineup or what you're expecting home runs-wise, is Durbin.
08:30So, that one's horrible.
08:32But then your starting rotation, theoretically, is better than what it was a year ago.
08:36Now, they've all underachieved.
08:37So, like, obviously, you end up having, like, a last-place team.
08:40So, you need to change something.
08:42But if everyone's ripping the roster put together by Breslow, they have all-star caliber players.
08:49They have major league caliber players.
08:51People, I think, have overblown because of the bad starts that they're off to just how bad it is.
08:55Real quick, because he's popular with the fan base.
08:58Why do you think Veritek isn't?
08:59Do you think Veritek isn't taking their reassignment?
09:01Yeah.
09:01Or do you think it was never offered and that was misreported?
09:04So, there's, yeah.
09:05Looking at just some of the different tweets that have come out there about this from, like,
09:08different people that I'm sure talk directly to Veritek, my guess is it was reassigned within the Red Sox,
09:14but it was some, like, real joke job.
09:16It wasn't uniformed personnel.
09:18Breslow confirmed that yesterday.
09:19It wasn't going to be part of the coaching staff.
09:21No, no, no.
09:21So, it's like, hey, we want you to go to, like, FanFest and so people can be like, hey, there's
09:25the captain.
09:25Like, they want you to be, like, a mascot.
09:28Do you think he didn't take it because he's loyal to Cora or because he's butthurt, he's not the manager?
09:32Oh, probably more the second thing.
09:33That's what I think.
09:34But I think he got fired because he's connected with Cora.
09:37And then I think, oh, no, he got fired because his title is, like, pitching and defense game planning or,
09:44like.
09:44Doesn't seem to be going great.
09:45No, that's, like, the worst area of the team.
09:47Oh, run prevention?
09:48Is he a run prevention guy?
09:49Look, Andrew Bailey is a Breslow guy.
09:51That's why he kept his job.
09:52That's not fair.
09:53I agree.
09:53Yeah.
09:54And, like, Bailey should wear that.
09:55He didn't.
09:55Breslow's keeping his guys.
09:56I understand that.
09:57But Bailey hasn't been here as long as Cora or as long as Veritek or as long as Vasquez.
10:00But Veritek's title is literally, like, pitching and defense analysts.
10:03That's, like, the thing they're the worst at.
10:04Yeah.
10:05So, based on that, he deserved to lose it.
10:07And I think, I think he's not taking their reassignment because he's, like, I should be the next guy.
10:13Yeah, probably.
10:13And a lot of fans agree with him.
10:16Yeah.
10:16No, I don't blame him.
10:17But I just don't want to characterize as, like, well, he's an AC guy and all the AC guys are
10:20loyal to him.
10:21I think he would have stabbed AC in the back if he got the manager job.
10:23I think he would have gladly taken it.
10:25Maybe.
10:25Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:26But that wasn't an option for him.
10:28And so I get not wanting to just, like, turn into Wally, Tessie, and Tech.
10:33No.
10:33Like, that's what it would have been.
10:34I do, too.
10:35I'm just telling you, if he got offered it, he'd still be here.
10:37That's all.
