00:00Rhode Island texts are pushing back on me on Breslow.
00:04By the way, we will be in Rhode Island in a couple weeks
00:08to wrap up Roadshow Season 5.
00:11We'll be in Newport.
00:13But text says, why do you think Breslow is desperate, Greg?
00:20It's because of ownership.
00:22He gets paid, and he doesn't care.
00:26He's seen the last three people in his position let go.
00:30After a few seasons of different degrees of success, he's not –
00:33I just – I think Craig Breslow is on his way out.
00:37I don't believe they're going to stick with him after this season.
00:40I would agree with that.
00:42I mean, listen, maybe you're right.
00:43Maybe he's doing exactly what John Henry wants him to do.
00:46I don't know.
00:48We keep getting – there was reporting over the weekend
00:50that John Henry was not in New York Yankee Series
00:57because of the ownership meetings that he actually came back to Boston
01:01and then went back to New York so as to show a stern face to all
01:07because he's not happy with what's going on here.
01:09Well, I –
01:11You think he shows up and then just writes emails?
01:13Like he doesn't actually see people ever.
01:15Text somebody from across the room.
01:17Check my date and location right now.
01:20Well, I guess if you're John Henry, you have to ask yourself, right,
01:23if I fire Bresbot at the end of the season
01:26and there's a potential lockout looming,
01:31do I then hire a new GM who's going to have to hire a new manager?
01:37Like what road do you think he goes or says –
01:39Well, he has to hire a manager anyway.
01:43But don't you think he's going to want, because of the last several years,
01:47he's going to want the new GM to hire the manager?
01:50Possibly.
01:50That's a great point.
01:51But they don't have a manager.
01:52No, I know that.
01:53But is there – I've heard people – I've heard this thrown about.
01:57Any chance they fire Breslow and then bring Alex Cora back
02:01as the chief baseball officer?
02:04No way Cora comes back.
02:06No.
02:06So he's –
02:07That's what I landed on with Ken Saturday.
02:09And it was – we were just going back and forth about what should have happened.
02:14And I said, in hindsight, it might have been wise to remove Cora,
02:19put him in the front office, fire Breslow,
02:21and then you sort of keep Cora here.
02:24You're paying him $7 million anyway.
02:26Yeah.
02:27And the notion – the thing that makes no sense to me,
02:30maybe you guys, Mega Wigs, Greg, can help me.
02:33How could Breslow fear Cora's insubordination
02:37when he's making like three to four times what he's making?
02:40You know what I mean?
02:41Like if this Rosenthal was really the breaking point
02:44where he's bitching about the way in which the rosters are being put together, like –
02:48You're saying how could Cora fear it?
02:50Well, right.
02:51Basically, like how could Breslow feel like he had power over Cora?
02:56Yeah, I don't think that he had power over Cora.
02:58Well, ultimately, he got the sway to fire him.
03:01No, I ultimately think he convinced John Henry to go, okay.
03:05Well, right.
03:05That's the power.
03:06No, I think Breslow, who was probably, I'm sure, as aghast as everybody else was –
03:13Lindsay says you are always.
03:14At the way the season started, was able to blame that all on Alex Cora when he was whispering in
03:22John Henry's ear.
03:23Right.
03:24They're not buying it to dry line.
03:25That's not a great visual.
03:26I apologize.
03:27No, but I agree with that.
03:30I completely agree with that.
03:32Alex is not buying in.
03:34He doesn't want to manage the young guys.
03:36Guys, you heard the report – he's probably saying it, John – you heard the report where he's like, oh,
03:41young guys and on, you know, team-friendly deals.
03:45He doesn't want to try to coach them.
03:47So, yeah, I could definitely see that.
03:48Do you think that Ken believes, I think – I don't want to speak for him, but basically that the
03:52initial plan was to fire the hitting coach and Cora said me or everyone?
03:55I heard you guys discussing that.
03:57If that's true, then A, that's a pretty noble stand by Cora, and B, what an idiotic move in hindsight.
04:05So, like, what's the downside of playing out the year?
04:09Because it's not like the guys like Roman or Mayer or Meyer or however the hell you say it, the
04:14young guys have played better for Tracy.
04:16If there was a concern that Cora was having a hard time with the young guys, it's not like the
04:20arrival of the AAA coach or manager has changed the way in which those guys are approaching the game.
04:25To your point, Curtis, if they're saying, all right, well, we just want you to remove the hitting coach, and
04:29he's like, no, I'm not going to do it, then he's kind of being – he's being insubordinate.
04:33He's going against whether it's Bresbott, whether it's Sean Henry on a decision that they want to make because they
04:38feel like here's the area that we need help, and then, you know, Cora ends up being a foxhole guy.
04:45So, all right, if you're going to fire him, then you need to fire me, and they said, okay.
04:48And, Curtis, couldn't that contract also, in a way, like kind of work against Cora because Breslow, sure, is making
04:57less money, but maybe he can talk it into a way where he turns to ownership and says, you're paying
05:04this guy how much, and he's still talking about how you don't like – how he doesn't like the business
05:08you're doing?
05:09Like, come on.
05:10I just got a text from someone somewhat –
05:13Plugged in?
05:14Who said that the Cora thing in the front office would never happen because Cora was just disgusted at how
05:19they had gutted the scouting department, was as small as any operation in baseball, and that the way they had
05:25shifted their approach to spending.
05:26Was it Dustin Pedroia?
05:28It was.
05:28He said –
05:31Laser show.
05:32So, by the way, that might have been the most emasculating part of an interview that was full of somebody
05:38being on their knees where Sam Kennedy said he's been trying to get him, but he won't even, like, call
05:42him back.
05:43Yeah.
05:44I think they want him – don't you think they want – do you think they want him for manager
05:48or they want him for chief baseball officer?
05:52I think Wally replacement.
05:54No, Curtis, but be honest.
05:56I think they'd love him to be the manager.
05:58Yeah.
05:58Wow.
05:58That's what Cora – they used Cora's relationship with the fan base, and if ever – I mean, it would
06:04be kind of apropos.
06:05Pedroia replaced Cora at second base.
06:08But –
06:08He's beloved, and then they go, look, we got – we made some mistakes.
06:13We brought back – look at – we brought back Petey.
06:16But isn't that a just look over here, don't look at the burning fire to your left?
06:20Yes, of course it is.
06:20That's what they want, Shime.
06:22So the Petey thing is because –
06:24We should see right through that.
06:25Like, that's not – I don't think that's smart.
06:27But I thought that they were –
06:29It's like –
06:30I think that's really dumb.
06:33I don't think that's smart.
06:35Well, if they feel like he's a good manager –
06:37That's not – but that's not why they're hiring him.
06:39They're hiring him because they're like, hey, everybody, remember how nostalgic it was having Petey in the building, how great
06:44he was?
06:45He's now your manager.
06:46That's stupid.
06:47Remember when he told Jeff Francis when he wasn't allowed to get into Cora's field, remember me in game one?
06:51I took him deep.
06:52If that's the plan, I may be in favor of the salary cap.
06:56For goodness sake.
06:56Well, because I thought –
06:57I have all these questions now, too.
06:59Do you think the Bregman cigar was a real cigar or a fake one?
07:02Oh, well, we've heard from too many of the parents.
07:05What I would say to that one guy is –
07:07I got a shop.
07:08I went right in.
07:09I said, here's the receipt.
07:10None of the parents have called you.
07:12What about the sister also?
07:14Where are you guys?
07:15If they do call, a little bit of advice.
07:16Next white lie, don't try to go so elaborate.
07:21Don't go – well, that's what LB used to get in trouble for.
07:23Yeah, don't show elaborate.
07:25Too many details.
07:25It was just – he would give way too many fake details.
07:28Never give the fake details.
07:29I got the fake cigars off of Amazon.
07:30I guarantee you can get fake ones that come ready to go rather than like, no, I went and got
07:35ingredients here.
07:37Then I went and got some, you know, some backwards rolling paper.
07:42Then you just go to chat and you say, hey, chat, make it look like this receipt was from five
07:47days ago.
07:48Yeah, he's like, I went and –
07:49And then you can just show that.
07:50What did he say?
07:50I got tea leaves and like you went way too elaborate.
07:53You know, you can buy anything online.
07:56Like, did you – have you watched that horrible, horrible documentary on Netflix?
08:03Yes.
08:03Well, we haven't talked about one Netflix documentary.
08:05Well, I know exactly what you're talking about.
08:08I watched it two days ago.
08:09Mm-hmm.
08:10But that lady was able to buy fake –
08:14Everything.
08:16Fake sonogram.
08:17Is that what they call it?
08:17Yeah.
08:18And a fake tummy and all that.
08:19Yeah.
08:20Silicone tummy.
08:21Awful.
08:22A fake sonogram.
08:22Oh, it made it seem like she was pregnant.
08:23Yes, yes.
08:24With dates on it.
08:25You can buy like a fake sonogram.
08:26You can get anything from online, especially now with AI and ChatGPT.
