00:08have condemned a foiled attack by a lone gunman at a hotel in Washington, D.C., where the U.S.
00:14President and the First Lady were attending an event on Saturday night.
00:19Prime Minister Passat-Besessa said on the social media platform X that she is, quote, relieved that President Donald Trump,
00:26the First Lady, and all officials and guests are safe following the attack at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, end
00:33quote.
00:33Prime Minister Passat-Besessa stated that the swift action of the United States Secret Service in apprehending the shooter is
00:40commendable and she extends best wishes to the injured officer.
00:44President Trump said during a media conference after the incident at Washington Hilton that the suspect was in custody.
00:52Prime Minister Passat-Besessa said that she strongly condemns all acts of violence against democratic institutions and her thoughts are
00:59with those affected and traumatized by the incident at the Washington Hilton Hotel.
01:04Prime Minister Passat-Besessa said, quote,
01:06quote, I note with concern that this is yet another attempt targeting President Trump and I pray for his continued
01:12safety and for the people of the United States, end quote.
01:15President Trump survived an assassination attempt when he was a candidate during the U.S. presidential campaign in 2024.
01:23And two months later, a gunman was found by the Secret Service hiding in bushes on the President's golf course
01:28in Florida.
01:29President Ali said Guyana condemns all acts of violence and stands in solidarity with the people of the United States
01:37at this time.
01:39President Ali said that Guyana is deeply concerned about the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner
01:45and is relieved that President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and all attendees are safe following the swift response of
01:53security personnel.
01:54Passat-Besessa and President Ali were the only CARICOM leaders who were invited by President Trump to attend the Shield
02:01of the America Summit in Doral, Florida, last month.
02:04Outside of CARICOM, Venezuela's Acting President, Delce Rodriguez, said her nation strongly condemns the attempted attack against President Trump and
02:13his wife, Melania Trump,
02:15and that Venezuela extends their best wishes to them and to all attendees of the Correspondents' Dinner.
02:21Acting President Rodriguez further said,
02:23Violence is never an option for those who uphold the values of peace.
02:29UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on X that any attack on democratic institutions or on the freedom of the
02:35press must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
02:39India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was relieved to learn that President Trump, the First Lady,
02:45and Vice President are safe and unharmed following the recent security incident at a Washington, D.C. hotel.
