The Tobago Hotel & Tourism Association is calling for urgent and meaningful consultation with stakeholders on any proposed measures affecting the domestic air bridge. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.
Transcript
00:00The Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association stated on Friday it does not support the introduction of a limited number of
00:08higher-priced peak-time flights as a solution, as this would not significantly improve revenue or reduce subsidy requirements.
00:16Instead, it would restrict access for essential travel, despite the airbridge being a critical national service.
00:23The association recommends that consideration can be looked at a yield-based pricing model as a more effective and balanced
00:32approach, for example.
00:34It says the introduction of unsubsidized affairs for non-residents could also be considered.
00:40In addition, opening the route to other airlines could improve access, increase capacity and strengthen overall connectivity.
00:48The THTA further emphasizes that timely payment of subsidies is essential to the sustainability of the service as ongoing delays
00:59place additional strain on operations.
01:03The association is urging immediate stakeholder engagement to ensure that any decisions taken are practical, balanced and do not negatively
01:13impact Tobago's tourism economy.
