00:08How would you assess the strength of Trump's national security team right now?
00:15So the big issue, of course, is to me, is the process that always existed in the National Security Council
00:23under every president, Republican or Democrat.
00:26That seems to be altered quite a bit.
00:29We have the Secretary of State, Secretary Rubio, playing both that role, U.S. aid director and the National Security
00:38Advisor, all very senior, very significant roles, all in one person.
00:43And many of the people that have historically been assigned to the NSC have not, I mean, it's basically been
00:50reduced substantially in size.
00:52So it doesn't seem to be doing the interagency policy coordination that all administrations have done in the past.
00:58So if you add that up with these seemingly significant departures, particularly from the national security side, I think it
01:06represents a challenge.
01:08But the United States, of course, is resilient.
01:11We have a robust, permanent military in the sense that we have very senior, uniformed military officers ready to step
01:20in.
01:20And an intelligence community that also has the equivalent of that.
01:24So I think we're in solid position, particularly when it comes to our own defense.
01:29But I think that does challenge the system somewhat when you have this level of departures.
