00:01The State's Court of Appeal today upheld the prison sentence handed to the now 17-year-old
00:06last year, rejecting arguments it was manifestly excessive or that errors had been made in
00:12the sentencing process.
00:14In February 2024, the teenager fatally stabbed Violene White in front of her granddaughter
00:19at a shopping centre in Ipswich, south of Brisbane, before stealing her car.
00:24Last year, the teenager pleaded guilty to murder and several other offences,
00:29including the unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and was sentenced to 16 years in detention,
00:35with 60% of that to be served in custody.
00:38The teenager's appeal, which was lodged earlier this year, was today rejected.
00:42Ms White's family thanked the court for its common sense.
