Teen accused of Vyleen White's murder committed to stand trial in Childrens Court in Ipswich

The teenager accused of murdering Ipswich grandmother Vyleen White has been committed to stand trial. It comes as the boy's lawyer says he's "remorseful" but is yet to enter any formal pleas.

00:00It's been just over a year since Cindy McAuliffe's mother lost her life.

00:07Birthdays aren't the same. Life, events aren't the same. Any family occasion just isn't the

00:13same without mum.

00:15Vylene White was allegedly stabbed by a 16-year-old boy during a carjacking at a Red Bank Plains

00:21shopping centre. Today the 70-year-old's family gathered at the Ipswich Children's Court for

00:26the latest step in seeking justice.

00:29The now 17-year-old boy charged with murder, as well as unlawful use of a motor vehicle,

00:34faced a committal hearing. It was here where prosecutors submitted 120 witness statements

00:39to the court, with the teenager's defence team choosing not to test any of the evidence

00:44at this point.

00:45The magistrate committed the case to trial.

00:48The boy appeared via video link and said he understood the charges when asked by Magistrate

00:54Dennis Kinsella, but he said he didn't have anything to say about them at this stage.

00:59The boy's lawyers says he's yet to enter a plea.

01:02He's absolutely remorseful. Absolutely. He regrets this. It's a really tragic set of

01:08circumstances for everyone. I've said in the past and through my client that there are

01:13no winners or losers. Everyone's a loser in these circumstances.

01:17Miss White's death spurred youth crime into the spotlight ahead of last year's state election

01:23and helped inspire policy changes.

01:25From the worst time in our life, we've managed to effect some change and it wasn't wasted.

01:32The matter will now move to the Supreme Court in Brisbane.
