00:00Water conservation is critical, as there is a measured amount on the planet.
00:04But a life-sustaining topic may not always be interesting among young children.
00:09Not this time, though, as pupils from several schools were fully engaged in various activities and exhibits,
00:16trying their hands at different games while learning about using water wisely.
00:21The Water and Surge Authority's Youth Water and Utility Symposium 2026
00:27was also able to draw adults into the mix.
00:30Chief Executive Officer of Wasidane Murad says it is more than awareness, it is education.
00:38The symposium was aimed at giving them insight into where water comes from,
00:43the treatment process of it, and the importance of preservation.
00:47Murad's message to the students.
00:50We want to explore what you, to ask questions.
00:55We want you to be curious, because the future of water and utilities
01:00will depend on new ideas, new thinking, and, of course, new leadership.
01:08Many of those ideas will come from minds like yours.
01:13Minister in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Clyde Elder, says
01:16when children become the target for the dissemination of information, it goes a long way.
01:21Because somehow when you are engaged, you, to use a local term, you nag your parents.
01:30And when you nag your parents to get things done, your parents get it done.
01:35He states that 1,200 students from 40 schools are taking part in the initiative.
01:41Elder urges them to turn off taps when they are not in use and only to use what is necessary.
01:47Respect our infrastructure by taking care of pipes, drains, and water systems.
01:52Speak up by reporting leaks, wastages, or issues when you see them.
01:59Educate your peers and families by sharing what you learn here today.
02:02The children were able to meet Aqua Sprout,
02:05who was unveiled for the first time as part of the Water Saver Squad.
02:10This is more than a mascot.
02:12This is a movement.
02:14Aqua Sprout represents a bridge turning knowledge into action
02:19and making water conservation reliable, engaging, and impactful for young people across our nation.
02:27Also engaging the young ones was the Water Lord, Iwa George.
