00:00The 10th Southern Africa Broadcaster Convention opened on Thursday in Seychelles under the
00:07theme Reimagining Next, AA, Cloud and the Future of Broadcast Media in Africa.
00:13The event runs until October 25th and participants will discuss how artificial intelligence and
00:19cloud technology can improve their services while preserving public trust, human judgment
00:25and authentic African storytelling.
00:27On the first date, organizers stressed that exchanges between broadcasters, including
00:33countries' reports, are expected to help participants understand shared challenges,
00:39identify practical solutions and cooperation across the region.
00:44The scenarios the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation chief executive Bernard Dupres spoke
00:50about the potential of technology for Africa and the need to examine this in the age of
00:56artificial intelligence.
01:01I think it is important for us to recognize the potential of what the technology can do for Africa
01:12and learn from the mistakes of the fast.
01:17And each time there had been a new development in epidemiology, it was led from outside of Africa
01:26and we followed.
01:28So with the age of AI, there is a lot that can be done now to make sure that the
01:35tool is used for the benefit of Africa
01:37because it is much more democratized.
01:41The mobile phone has helped done that.
01:43But the increasing number of people that have access to bandwidth, that have access to fiber to home
01:50and the potential of the youth of Africa means that the growth is not going to be like DTT.
01:56It is going to be a steady exponential growth because of the sheer size of the African population.
02:03So that is something that needs to be studied carefully before we leap into what others may be driving us
02:08to do
02:08without having the most benefit to us.
02:11But our Drew Press also stated that given the vast variety of content available today,
02:18media outlets face a challenge of producing content that speaks to and resonates with audiences.
02:27Content are being consumed all over the world every day.
02:33And it's like you're going to restaurants or supermarkets and choosing what you want to eat.
02:39If you like it, you will come back and choose it again.
02:43When you have so much choice, there needs to be those that speak to you for you to go.
02:49Because we are so much spoiled for choice around content.
02:53The content doesn't need to be localized.
02:57It needs to speak and resonate to you.
03:00So any broadcaster in the world, whether it's Kalesu or SmallSBC, if you are putting something out there
03:09that speaks to someone, wherever they may be, they will review, they will consume your content,
03:16and they will want to come back.
03:18That's the hope.
03:19That's the expectation now of every broadcaster.
03:22You are producing content beyond your borders for a worldwide audience.
03:27Yeah, it's just a moment.
03:27You
