00:10The national pilgrimage for a sanctioned free and peaceful Venezuela continues with
00:16citizens defending their sovereignty from the states of Lara and Monagas.
00:25Doubtments of Cubans took to the streets in various cities across the country to demand
00:29an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the
00:35island.
00:40And U.S. President Donald Trump announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire between
00:45Israel and Lebanon after negotiations in Washington.
00:55Hello and welcome from the South.
00:57I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dresos Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:16The fifth day of the national pilgrimage for a sanctioned free and peaceful Venezuela
01:21is underway, with the state of Lara joining the effort.
01:25The pilgrimage took place in Barquisimento, the capital of Lara state, and marked a new
01:31stage in the nationwide mobilization that began last Sunday.
01:34In this scenario, people welcomed Acting President Delser Rodriguez along with the President of
01:39the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, expressing their support for this initiative that seeks
01:44to strengthen peace and national sovereignty.
01:47The pilgrimage will travel across the country along free routes until it reaches Caracas on
01:52May 1st.
02:08The pilgrimage must be about healing wounds, enough and ready with intolerance.
02:14Divergence and differences of opinion will always exist, but they must be resolved with
02:19tolerance, without hatred, without racism, without classism.
02:24If there is one thing we must acknowledge about Commander Hugo Chavez, it is that he brought
02:29the poorest and most vulnerable to the decision-making table and told them, become the people, become
02:36the people's power so that you may take the reins of this country's destiny.
02:46And the Acting President also assured that the country achieved food sovereignty after overcoming
02:51difficult times despite the economic blockade.
02:58Today we produce a food that Venezuela consumes, and it is a great achievement to be able to say
03:03this in the face of an economic blockade.
03:07As the President of the National Assembly and Deputy Romero said, we are coming from very difficult times
03:12that should make us politicians reflect, and not politicians as well.
03:18So the January 3rd is never repeated in our history, and certain missiles and bombs never again fall on our
03:26territory.
03:30And the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, stated that the sanctions have been a real burden for the
03:36Venezuelan people.
03:39We have learned from very painful experiences. We have endured real suffering. Sanctions are a real pain for the entire
03:48population.
03:49Sanctions are not just a piece of paper. Sanctions are not just a signature in an office. Sanctions are a
03:57difficulty, an obstacle.
04:00Sanctions are a sick person who does not receive medication on time, who does not receive treatment on time.
04:08Sanctions are the Venezuelan men and women who have left. This is a direct consequence of the sanctions.
04:21And the pilgrimage continues in Venezuela, this time in the state of Monagas where the population has united to demand
04:28the lifting of U.S. unilateral sanctions.
04:30The rally began on Raul Leoni Avenue where it brought together thousands of Venezuelans to demand an end to unilateral
04:37coercive sanctions.
04:38In this scenario, the pilgrimage was led by the Minister of Education, Hector Rodriguez, and all with local authorities in
04:44the capital of Monagas, Maturin,
04:46where he addressed the negative impact of sanctions on the Venezuelan economy, public services, hospital provisions, and social protection system.
04:54People also called for non-violence and respect for the right to live in a country free from illegal measures
04:59that undermine the quality of life.
05:09And on Thursday, the acting president of Venezuela, Torres Rodriguez, headed the inauguration ceremony for the Commission for National Consultation
05:16on Criminal Justice Reform at the Miraflores Palace.
05:20This call will bring together various sectors of the country to discuss the restructuring of the Venezuelan legal system from
05:27a humane and preventive perspective.
05:29Also in attendance at this event were the Attorney General of the Republic, Larry DeVoe, and the President of the
05:36National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez.
05:38In this context, the acting president explained that this reform is in response to a request from the Venezuelan people
05:44to ensure equal access to justice for all without discrimination.
05:57As part of the nationwide consultation, we will be asking Venezuelans for their opinion on criminal justice reform. I know
06:07this is a request from the people of Venezuela.
06:11Everything related to Venezuela, everything related to access to justice, ensuring that access is timely, that it is available to
06:20all without discrimination, and that it leads to impartial justice, undoubtedly.
06:31Important steps have been taken, but I believe that this issue can no longer be postponed and we must address
06:39it.
06:42And in the United States, a soldier involved in the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was charged after publicly
06:49betting on the outcome of the illegal military operation.
06:54Precisely, prosecutors informed that soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who was involved in planning for the military operation since early
07:01December, allegedly placed 13 bets on Polymarket, a popular prediction site between December and early January, related to U.S.
07:09forces invading Venezuela and taking its head of state.
07:12According to the Department of Justice, Van Dyke, who made more than 400,000 U.S. dollars on wages, has
07:20been charged with criminalities and wire fraud, in addition to unlawful use of confidential government information for personal gain.
07:28He remains in custody and could face up to 60 years in prison.
07:32In the aftermath of the news, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed an investigation into the matter is underway.
07:45We now have a first break coming up, stay with us.
08:08Welcome back.
08:10Thousands of Cubans took to the streets in various cities across the country to demand an end to the economic,
08:16commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island.
08:20Despite adverse weather conditions, workers, students and retirees gathered in public squares and workplaces to defend the sovereignty of the
08:28Caribbean nation.
08:30In addition, the participants sent a message to the international community and the U.S. people calling for solidarity and
08:38understanding among nations.
08:39This day of mobilization is part of the activities leading up to May 1st International Labor Day, a date of
08:46great symbolism in Cuba.
08:47In this regard, the island reaffirms its unity and resilience in defense of its project ahead of the traditional march
08:53that brings together millions of people this year.
09:09And in Cuba, the nationwide form of the homeland campaign is moving forward to reiterate the people's call for peace
09:18and an end to the United States' policy of siege against the island.
09:21This initiative reaffirms the declaration issued by the revolutionary government, expressing the people's will and determination to protect their sovereignty
09:31and their commitment to peace.
09:32In this scenario, Cuban students have joined this day of action demanding a dignified life free from the blockade for
09:39future generations.
09:41Furthermore, employees of the National Assembly of People's Powers' auxiliary offices also support the government's campaign.
09:55Argentina's far-right President Javier Millet confirmed Thursday that he will seek another mandate in the 2027 presidential election despite
10:02a steady growth in his disapproval rating among the population.
10:05In an interview with the digital channel Neura, the ultra-liberal head of state confirmed his intention of running for
10:13a second term in office as leader of the Liberty Advances Party.
10:16For this, Millet defended his fiscal adjustment policies and downplayed the declining economic figures of the country.
10:22The President's announcement comes as multiple recent polls indicate that his negative image and public disapproval of his administration have
10:29risen sharply partially fueled by scandals surrounding his administration's officials,
10:34his involvement in the Libra cryptocurrency scam, and his neoliberal policies regarding education, labor rights, the environment, healthcare, among others.
10:51And according to the latest poll conducted between March and April by Pagina 12 newspaper, the disapproval rating of President
10:58Javier Millet currently stands at 63%.
11:00This means only 35% of those surveyed have a positive opinion of the head of state, marking a loss
11:06of 6 points since the previous poll and 13 points since January.
11:12The following poll indicates that 35% of those who voted for Malay and the Liberty Advances Party in the
11:18previous election today hold a poor opinion of the head of state.
11:28And in Brazil, thousands of students and workers from the University of Sao Paulo took to the city streets as
11:34part of an indefinite strike that began on April 14th
11:37over improvement in conditions in the education sector.
11:41The protesters denounced a historic neglect of state education and demand that the university administration ensure a fair distribution of
11:49the budget.
11:50The main demands of the strike, which has now been underway for 10 days, include delivering on hiring teachers as
11:57a promise after protests in 2023,
11:59improving university cafeterias and equal benefits between faculty and administrative staff.
12:05The action is part of a wave of strikes affecting more than 50 federal and state universities across Brazil,
12:11putting pressure on the government of Riz in Nacional da Silva for higher scholarships and decent wages in the education
12:18sector.
12:26And in the United Kingdom, the London subway workers' strike against the proposed longer work shift has entered its fourth
12:33day.
12:34The strike, which began on May 21st and has had two 24-hour stoppages, is in protest against the London
12:42Transport Authority's proposal to introduce a compressed working week system.
12:47The reform seeks to reduce the labor days to four instead of five, but proposes increased daily hours,
12:52which workers argue would lead to driver fatigue and endangered safety standards.
12:57Approximately half of the drivers participating in the strike are affiliated with the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union.
13:10And in South Africa, the government of President Cyril Ramaphosa suspended on Thursday the National Police Chief Fanny Massamola over
13:18his alleged involvement in a millionaire corruption case.
13:20In addition to the country's national police chief, the police minister, national commissioner, and his deputy have all now been
13:28suspended or placed on leave.
13:30Massamola is accused of flooding procurement laws in a now-canceled 224 police tender for health services awarded to businessman,
13:40Vusimusicatmatlala, suspected of links to organized crime.
13:43The allegations prompted the president to set up a formal commission of inquiry into the matter.
13:48Massamola, who appeared in court on Tuesday to face four counts of violating the Public Finance Act, has denied all
13:56accusations.
13:56The police chief, financial officer, Lieutenant General Pullen Dimpane, would now serve as acting commissioner.
14:07In consideration of the seriousness of these charges and the critical role that the National Commissioner of Police plays in
14:17leading the fight against crime,
14:19I have agreed with General Massamola that he be deemed to be on precautionary suspension pending the conclusion of the
14:28case.
14:45And in Japan, two mountain fires broke out in the town of Otsushi in Iwate Prefecture on Wednesday afternoon,
14:52and the blazes continued on Thursday, burning over 400 hectares of land and prompting the evacuation of more than 300
14:59residents.
15:00The first fire erupted in the Kosushi district, with another breaking out later in the Kirikiri district, about 10 kilometers
15:07away.
15:07In this context, the municipal government issued evacuation orders for 2,500 residents as the fire near the town's residential
15:16area,
15:16with 329 residents reportedly taking shelter.
15:18The blazes have destroyed seven buildings, including residential houses.
15:22Local authorities have requested support from emergency rescue teams of neighboring prefectures,
15:27with a total of 442 personnel dispatched to assist.
15:31According to the local meteorological office, heavy rain is not expected for several days.
15:43And China opened the 2026 Beijing International Auto Show, considered the world's largest event of its kind,
15:50due to its scale with over 1,400 vehicles on display.
15:54The 19th edition of the 2026 Beijing International Auto Exhibition will be held from April 24th to May 3rd,
16:04under the theme, The Future of Intelligence.
16:07The event brings together 500 global exhibitors and nearly 1,500 manufacturers spread across two venues.
16:11The International Exhibition Center, Shunji Pavilion, and the Capitol Convention Center.
16:25Let's take a short break. We're going to be right back.
16:51Welcome back.
16:52The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Said Mostaba Khamenei, in a message addressed the nation on Thursday,
17:00emphasized that Iranian unity has weakened the imperialist enemy's resolve.
17:05Mostaba Khamenei rejected the false claim made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding alleged division in Iran.
17:11In this context, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Quds Force, Ismail Ghani,
17:17also released a statement in support of the joint message from the Iranian authorities,
17:21emphasizing the backing of the resistance front and borderless fighters in the battle against the U.S. Saudis enemy.
17:30Regarding the enemy's media war, he stressed that such measures aims to undermine national unity and security.
17:43U.S. President Donald Trump announced as a new military measure the U.S. Navy ordered to fire on and
17:51destroy any type of vessel
17:52that attempts to cross the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions with Iran.
17:57President Donald Trump also noted that the intensity of military operations in the Strait will be three times higher than
18:04usual.
18:04This is happening amid the extension of the ceasefire between the U.S. administration and the Islamic Republic of Iran,
18:10during which President Trump ordered his forces to continue the naval blockade in the strategic passage.
18:16In this context, Iran has reiterated that Washington's riches of the agreement are the main obstacle to negotiations.
18:30And the United States has seized another oil tanker linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Indian Ocean
18:36amid Washington's attacks against the Persian nation.
18:40The U.S. military admitted to seizing the vessel Majestic X, claiming it was involved in the transportation of Iranian
18:46oil.
18:46The U.S. Department of War released images of the seizure of the oil tanker showing U.S. troops on
18:52deck,
18:53and stated that the U.S. military will continue global maritime surveillance to disrupt alleged illegal networks
18:59and intercept ships providing material support to Iran wherever they operate.
19:04The seizure of the oil tanker Majestic X came after Iran's attack on Wednesday in the Strait of Hormuz against
19:10three cargo ships,
19:11during which two of them were captured.
19:20U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday a three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon
19:26after negotiations took place in Washington.
19:29In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the extension followed a meeting between Lebanese and Israeli officials
19:36in the White House that was attended by Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
19:41On the post, Trump also indicated the U.S. intention to be increasingly involved in Lebanon's affairs,
19:47while the Lebanese resistance has repeatedly opposed what it considers one-sided deals with Israel.
19:54For his part, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized that the talks should not be interpreted as concessions to Israel,
20:00framing them instead as a means to resolve outstanding issues while safeguarding Lebanon's sovereignty.
20:12And early on Friday, just hours after the announcement by Donald Trump of the three-week extension of the ceasefire,
20:18the Israeli aviation carried out a series of airstrikes in southern Lebanon.
20:22According to Lebanese media, two raids targeted the town of Tulin, while a separate strike hit Kirbetsam.
20:29These latest raids resulted in the destruction of residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure,
20:34showing the Saudi's disregard for international humanitarian law.
20:38Meanwhile, the continuous Israeli aggressions, as negotiations are ongoing and a ceasefire extension has just been announced,
20:45reflects that the Saudi entity has no intention of stopping its violent and expansionist policies in the region.
20:59And Palestinian children in the West Bank protest blockades set up by Israeli settlers demanding access to their school.
21:07Israeli colonialist settlers used barbed wire to block roads in the village of Umm al-Qa'ir in the occupied
21:12West Bank,
21:13blocking access to school and other basic facilities for the Palestinian population.
21:17Meanwhile, the Palestinian children of the village decided to face the aggressors,
21:22staging a protest behind the barbed wire fence that, under the cry of Open the Road,
21:26is demanding access to school, freedom of movement and a life without occupation.
21:31Settler violence against the Palestinian population in the occupied West Bank has only increased over time,
21:37with daily reports of attacks, forced displacement and intimidation actions.
21:49And in Germany on Thursday, demonstrators protested the visit of former Iranian Crown Prince and opposition figure Reza Pahlavi,
21:57also condemning the government's stance on the war on Iran.
22:01Protesters gathered near the Brandenburg Gate in the capital of Berlin,
22:05waving Iranian flags and carrying portraits of the victims of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East,
22:12holding banners that read,
22:14one genocide does not justify another.
22:16Participants also voiced sharp criticism of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz,
22:21whose administration they accused of prioritizing U.S. and Israeli interests while profiting from weapons sales.
22:29Furthermore, demonstrators linked the nation's rising inflation to the government's involvement in regional escalations.
22:39The President, the President, the International Declaration of Foreign Affairs
22:40Pahlavi represents nothing but a coward to me.
22:43He is one of those people that I can't consider as Iranian because his daughter can't even speak Farsi
22:51and he wants to become the next Shah of Iran.
22:54First of all, we don't want any kings in Iran.
22:57They, what, what they did in a period of 250 years where the Pahlavi regime was ruling Iran,
23:05It was nothing but cruelty. They were oppressing everybody.
23:11Well, that is what we have from the end of this news break.
