MAN FOILS SUSPECTED BIKE THIEVES AFTER SPOTTING ‘SUSPICIOUS’ BEHAVIOUR
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
A quick-thinking man helped stop a suspected bike theft after spotting two men acting suspiciously on a quiet street.
Matt Nadin, 46, an urban explorer from Sheffield, UK captured the dramatic moment on April 22, 2026, in Barnsley after leaving a friend’s house.
In the footage, the two hooded youths can be seen pushing a motorbike with the engine off, something that immediately raised alarm bells for Matt.
The 46-year-old began filming and followed them in his car as they made their way through nearby streets before heading down an alley.
The pair eventually attempted to push the bike through a narrow barrier but got stuck.
Matt then called police, who arrived within minutes and took details along with his footage while attempting to trace the bike’s owner.
Despite his actions, Matt warned others to think carefully before intervening. He believes looking out for others can make a real difference.
Explaining why he stepped in, Matt said: “I know what it’s like to have something you’ve saved for taken away from you.
“As soon as I stepped out, I saw two lads… one was pushing and freewheeling the bike.
“It was a really warm day and they were both wearing puffer coats with their hoods up. It just hit me as strange straight away.
“Clearly it had worked because one of them was trying to get it free. The other took one look at me and ran.
“I got out and said, ‘I don’t think this is your bike is it?’
“He said yes, then contradicted himself… then told me he was going to stab me but instantly turned and ran off.
“I’ve been at the wrong end of muggings and burglary, it’s a horrible feeling.
“I felt like it was my responsibility to stand up for the person who might lose their bike.
"People need to be careful when approaching situations like this, things can go wrong very quickly.
“You need to weigh up the situation before jumping in.
“I just think the world would be a better place if we all watched each other’s backs.”
