EMOTIONAL MOMENT AS WOMAN TAKES FIRST STEP AFTER YEARS OF PARALYSIS
WITH VID
By Santiago Hidalgo
Check out this heartwarming footage of Pyper Bost, from Florida, US, taking her first steps after years of rehabilitation following a spinal cord injury.
Pyper suffered a life-changing ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) accident on July 7, 2024, which resulted in eight spine fractures and six broken ribs, leaving her paralysed from the chest down.
Since then, she has undergone an intense and demanding recovery journey, committed to regaining movement through specialised therapy.
In this video, filmed on April 7, 2026, Pyper can be seen taking her first step again while participating in the neurological re-engineering program at BARWIS.
Those present during the moment were visibly emotional as Pyper slowly moved forward, marking a breakthrough that once seemed out of reach.
For Pyper, this step represents a turning point in her recovery, showing the progress that can be achieved through long-term rehabilitation and neurological training methods.
The clip has resonated deeply with viewers, many of whom have been inspired by her perseverance and strength.
Pyper said: “Following surgery I had a lot of lung complications, was intubated and put on an ECMO machine (functions as an artificial heart-lung machine, removing blood, oxygenating it, removing carbon dioxide, and warming it before pumping it back into the body).
“I was in the ICU and the hospital for a month. Then I was moved to a rehabilitation institute where I had to relearn how to eat, how to drink, basically how to do everything on my own”
“I recently just moved from home in Pittsburgh down to Florida to go back to school and mainly to attend BARWIS neurological re-engineering program. Something I wanted to do since the beginning of my injury”.
“I knew there was so much more I needed to be doing to push myself because I was determined to get back up on my feet”.
“In just 3 months at BARWIS, I've already managed to take my first step”.
“I face my recovery with a strong sense of motivation and determination, believing that I will ultimately get back on my feet”.
“I choose to have a smile on my face, if I imagine myself giving up and just lying in bed doing nothing everyday i would never be able to live with myself”.
“The embankment that I went down was 50 to 60 feet and I was ejected from the side by side and far away from the ATV. It was a miracle that I didn't hit my head”.
“I decided to start posting on social media to educate, support, and motivate people who are going through similar situations”.
