01:20and two bowlers not quite able to take their hat tricks andy roberts
01:26a trick ball
01:30and south rose the wires
01:36well rather an anti-climax there and javid meandab who won the cross had to go back to the dressing
01:42room to find out what was going to happen he eventually put the west indies in we pick up
01:46play now in the fourth over no wickets before emirin's coming into bowl to desmond haynes who's
01:50not off the mark yet and with bill lorry in the comedy box is frank tyson
01:56he's out he's dropped in here out there well well
02:01it's just saying they're building well and that was a sinner
02:05but it was only well that team normally a a good especially flip fieldman and gully fieldsman and
02:13there he is tumbling that ball as it goes to his right that was a simple chance really it was

02:18his right he's a left-hander mind you that might have influenced him a little bit well it was the
02:23thick edge wasn't it plenty of time to see it what a disappointment for him and he's bowled very well

04:30and that's over the top 15 over is not yet pulled and the limitation for the fielding team having to
04:37have those fielders in those circles and uh

05:51really fast outfield the mcd but has no problems whatsoever in reaching the down
06:01and that's the west end day 50. in fact we'll now go on to 51 with two runs there's
06:07he just backy who is out there the 12th man

06:1851 between greenwich and haynes and has now started really to find their touch the runs are now coming
06:24a lot more freely than they were earlier
06:32and that's true well timed more unfair long chase for rizmann and the batsman coming back quite
06:40comfortably for their third run good long return from with rizmann but it was all
06:50and he's really going for his drive now
06:56almost half an hour to get off the mark haynes this is for his first run
07:02until the quote over now he's barely going he's catching up with gordon brennage 27 to haynes and 28 to
07:18greenwich
07:18well it's the first appeal we've heard for the day
07:23low choke for leg before when he's looking to hit it away on the onside hitting that front pad and
07:31quite high too kind of a little excited at beating the bat
07:41that's a good shot very unusual looking shot by brennage but he really hit it hard
07:47didn't seem all that short it wasn't tony he's well pitched up a bit of bounce there and good
07:53weakness for batting and gordon brennage just helping it on his way behind square league look
07:58he comes forward which is right in the middle of that back
08:06that's a good firm on drive by haynes and the bats that are pumping down there
08:12at long on the rizwan the fielder goes for four really should have been just the single
08:19but uh the bats when we're hurrying fielder under pressure and there's a bad bit of misfielding
08:25he's well hit by desmond haynes but certainly only a single
08:28the rizwan really attacking it not getting down not getting behind us
08:34let's see what he does this time that's better a bit of a rubbish from the crowd
08:48that's a big hit going way down towards deep mid-wicket and over the top
08:54middling that one down to the deep mid-wicket down reach
08:57and that's he's got that one in the middle and this could be an expensive move by javet to bring
09:07on
09:07marja khan with these gentle little slow medium pace deliveries
09:23place between two men there marja's eventually doing fielding and
09:27good thinking there by desmond haynes came back on the arm
09:33reasoning that marja's um might not be the strongest in the pakistan field
09:41a neat stretch desmond haynes goes to 50 with that jealous little stroke
09:50good innings from desmond haynes
09:57this came up with a 65 delivery space and 96 minutes
10:02let's have a look at that little note just i've seen the face there and
10:06getting enough on it to be the way keeper so i'll play 50 by haynes
10:16it's a good shot
10:20hanging away into the crowd there

10:37and there's a beautiful suitably struck ball and not a very good fixed fielding
10:42out there at uh deep mid-wicket
10:46kankistan field is working very well
10:49here today they're under tremendous pressure
11:08so i suppose when looking at this that's a marvelous shot
11:18played away there that sweep shot off the middle of the back for four like a traceable to the badly
11:22that's pleasant pain
11:25and when you consider that aspect of the game the
11:31fact that the players can in fact lose quite a lot of money
11:35the overrate is bad news
11:38only the pakistanis have been just a little bit slack in the field
11:41the field is very widespread and straight back and down
11:47goodness me
11:50oh and do you think it didn't hurt
11:55this was hit back very hard and quasi had to get his hands there that's for sure
11:59he got them there right but it went straight out
12:04it looked for me as that might have got him on the fleshy part of the thumb
12:10it was certainly very painful a full-blooded hit back
12:16i looked at that full toss and uh
12:19it stayed hit gordon greeninch
12:22saved everything he had
12:25have a look at him
12:32it's a big round and uh
12:34it's a vastly important aspect of the game and there's another example of it
12:38this time desmond haynes just leaning back
12:40rather than try to smash it at the boundary for four
12:43he's placed it to perfection

13:15top player gordon greenwich and desmond haynes the non-striker they've really played well here today

13:28i think of all the wealth of backing still to come in the west indian liner
13:36and they're finding the gaps and running well between the wickets
13:42cooling rate's been fantastic in the first hour they scored 62 in the second hour 103 runs without loss
14:00one bounce over the fence four more and this is a very controlled sitting situation by these two back and
14:08frank they're really finding those gaps
14:10they certainly are and irving rosenwater was just pointing out to me a moment ago
14:14that that would probably constitute about the 11th four of the innings
14:20two back and have not really tried to hit their way to the boundary but have been content to place

14:34the end of him breakthrough trying to force it down the gap one for 182

16:20that's a glorious shot lost it over cover
16:25last form of the ads in the battle and that's beautifully struck away for four runs
16:30touch of arrogance and brilliance 100 one for 200

16:46trying to find some extra space on the offside
16:53involved by him good bowling good because imran did not bowl right in the slot there
17:00well just not bouncing as much as that which is thought
17:04and richard's losing the middle and leg stumps two for 203 this quarter

17:35there it is well played gordon greenwich finally this morning
17:39and this afternoon they've come into that side job as me and that
17:43all where the ball was moving about off the scene he survived
17:47a very generous round of a course in this fairly phenomenal pitch ground
17:53well you'll see the number of deliveries that gordon greenwich has taken to reach a century 159 minutes

18:08and in fact gordon greenwich himself personally has scored at something like more than two runs

18:24very good correct stance very risky

18:41i'll be happy when he's taking his time coming back to the four that's good running

19:02where's rotten he's not had a happy day in the field
19:05making a good catch there running to his right
19:09getting his eye on the ball the whole while and pulling it in
19:12back is doing the right thing trying to hit the big boundaries that's needed now to build onto that
19:17score good catch by young riswan down there catching it right under the chin and made sure of it as
19:22he bounces back on those heels
19:25so that's back us out the west end is now three for 222
19:35and that's in the air it's going to catch briswan once more takes a good catch again
19:44somewhat lower than sound and gordon
19:48when it's finally presented to wickets for safra's duplicated fashion just lost it out the outfield not
19:55quite so deep this time and this one catching it always tied so the end of gordon greenwich made a
20:02two hundred the western needs a great start by in 103 and western needs four for 224
20:13that was the end of the over and here's the first ball of a new one
20:17new batsman is andy roberts he's gone
20:20he's after just the one more andy roberts coming in to try and really push things along and turning that
20:27ball straight to montorak car backwards square legs three wickets in two overs a good fight back by
20:33pakistan andy roberts elevated up the list try and push the scoring rate along unfortunately for him out

21:03i'll talk down the lake side so this is already falling down the lake side well taken by astra who's
21:12had an impressive debut here
21:15taking the look from the test keeper was in barry and taking it well down the lake side
21:20mini collapse tony four wickets for only one run
21:23big joel finds his way back to the pavilion following in the same footsteps as andy roberts
21:35well one bird they're accompanying another back to the pavilion six footer 24.
21:48so far is not too keen to get behind that one they're going through for two could be a run

21:52so just making his ground
22:00true coming in deep from sakanda down on the boundary but marshall really accelerating
22:07in fact if that ball had hit the stumps would have been out of his ground
22:12last over now marshall to pick straight
22:26so on over the top of the infield and the offside and will yield the bats for at least three
22:34kind of stumbling there by marshall you've been looking for
22:36a false and they're going for it returns in the outfield very weak in that four run
22:46good shot one of improvisation moving out towards the lake side and then hitting it over just
22:53backward of point plenty of room out there there's no one in the deep
22:58welcome marshall very fast runner between wickets clive lloyd was only looking for the three but
23:02marshall calling through for the fourth
23:09and again and i think there'll be a bit hard pressure this time to get four
23:15because of the lack of strength of skazim's arms but perhaps the lack of uh breath in the lungs of
23:22clive lloyd
23:23well he is getting on a bit he's 37 and having had uh four runs the previous one all run
23:30i think he was satisfied with three there good sensible cricket tony realizing that the onside
23:36was well covered plenty of gaps on that offside a little bit of panic there creeping into this last
23:41over but i had the four men within the circles three on the offside for clive lloyd one on the
23:49on
23:55and that's a good firm hit by lloyd typical lloyd power there straight back overhead for four
24:02that really is a typical clive lloyd shot hammering it back over the bullet head
24:09safe as shot in the business straight down the ground didn't have to move clive lloyd
24:14missing that side screen there or just crashing into the edge of it great shot
24:19no risk whatsoever kept his head down just hit straight through
24:28almost got the umpire there and a brilliant save
24:33limits the bats one to two
24:37with plenty of action it's a no ball call by the umpire
24:42either that or his arm is broken but it came very close to him you'll see how close in this
24:47shot
24:48just fast is left there umpire robin belash just managing to get out of the way in
24:55in the end of very good save by rizwan two more to lloyd
25:04and that's it he's pulled him lloyd singing hopefully making no contact this time
25:14and in an effort to get as many runs as quickly as possible a real oahu in the off stump
25:21askew so
25:22the west endies have lost their seventh 244. just lifting the head not hitting straight on this
25:29occasion but trying to whip it out into that leg side and safras good bowling and tilting those stumps back
25:39and here's our court and bold first ball
25:45there's no injustice about being dropped down all this for larry gomes
25:50he was scheduled originally to come in before clive lloyd not as quick a score as clive lloyd
25:56just returning a simple court and bold for safras and we now find safras on a hatchery
26:02go and find his way back as our little friend once again re-emerges on a very busy day
26:12so eight for 244. there he goes on the way back safras another wicket for him
26:20and his final over just one ball remaining and safras on a hat trick
26:26one for 222 at one stage west indies and now they find themselves eight for 244.
26:36david murray places his last ball from safras
26:49well rather an anti-climax there to end the innings a single to murray safras doesn't get his hat trick
26:55and the west indies finish their 50 overs at eight
27:04and that was a pretty good effort by pakistan to keep west indies down
27:07to eight of 245 at one stage looked as though they were going to run riot particularly when
27:12greg and jane put together and then came that collapse and the splendid bowling
27:16from safras and imran khan so 246 to win for pakistan it's still a tall order
27:22even though they broke through west indies ranks towards the end 4.92 is the rate of asking and
27:27we pick up play now in the third over robert is coming into boulder madasa who's made four
27:32and with me in the commentary box is tony greg
27:39the shot is fine straight back by madasa
27:49beautiful thing this one

28:03well certainly settled for this start that four was wide and slightly over
28:06pitch but pretty well dispatched away there by rizwan

28:25yes that's two deliveries now that roberts has pitched in that area and
28:28on both occasions he's given rizwan a lot of trouble it seems to me that the one that bounces
28:32just a little outside off stunt which causes a lot of batsmen problems it's definitely causing rizwan some

28:58well there we go and the crowd appreciating that beautiful throw from collincross they have got
29:03beautiful arms these fellows as big as this melbourne creek ground is when they throw them
29:10they throw them straight and flat

29:49after the moment from the west indies at the equivalent time that's after six overs
29:56west indies went along quite slowly with greenwich and hayans
30:16a confident appeal there from that uh delivery from marshall perhaps just slipping down the
30:21leg side it did nip back a little bit and while rizwan was back on his stumps there was a
30:26big appeal
30:27from everyone i was behind and the bowler himself but that was a good decision the ball nipping back
30:33off the pitch and going down the next side
30:47and that ball tipped away nicely over the infield down to colin croft again that big throw and big cheer
30:55from the crowd again
30:56colin croft making about 70 or 40 yards around boundary there picking it up and whipping it over the top
31:02that was a good shot there
31:05sticking that in the air and uh traveling it very well
31:10and that says the leading partner
31:17that's a beautifully placed stroke
31:19you won't get four but uh we'll look at three rich ones
31:24then carry it back as the two quick ones

32:49rizwan just not concentrating for a moment hitting across the line of this ball which might have just
32:56held its own he was aiming for a hit over long on in fact he skied the ball sliced it

33:03off position and andy roberts coming around there made no mistake about eyes on the ball all the time as
33:08you can see hand cut and in it goes it's not going to get out of there so the first

33:19with 56 for the first wicket the pakistan openers had strengthened their team's position
33:24and shavid niandad promoted himself to three and went right on with the job
33:33all full pitch and he whipped that down to back to the square and he pitched both of them he

33:39garner who was fine and roberts who was square it was beautifully played
33:43it really was well he had uh all the time in the world to fit this delivery which was a
33:47juiciful toss there just outside the leg stuff a lot of risk in that stroke
33:59now my shot border square this time roberts coming around knocks it down two for two
34:11andy roberts a very popular player at the melbourne cricket ground a magnificent competitor a great
34:16outfielder that's the danger when you're trying to bowl a yorker is to go straight at leg stump
34:25much in the same vein as trip it's bold and he can whip it away as probably since he would
34:32have done
34:32with a straight leg stump and then whipped it away between the two men at the fine leg and square

37:12and he's gone absolutely naked with that wicket they're breaking through ball rolling back from
37:21the bottom of the bat and man should act for his bold good bowling change by clive lloyd bringing
37:27marshall back knocked over this mudasa and now nansu akhtar by bowling purely instantly at the stumps
37:34play every ball on a smear center good delivery from milton marshall
37:38nansu on his way back bold marshall for two and pakistan swamps for three for 124.
37:48slice that away down back to the square there's a long run here

37:57we'll get to a four three so three for 133 at the end of that 30 second over

38:11he's got that one way very fine not even garner can beat that
38:19the umpire comes into it because he's already called wide
38:23when andy roberts came down the leg side
38:28starting up way down the next side again but this time job of me and dad getting a little bit

38:32on that and uh joe garner down that fine leg is quite square
38:41a good shot beaten roberts admit on fine strike
38:47that was a beautiful shot and uh it was very well hit and had to be because roberts
38:54quite deep there and uh or put that side of stuff overpitched and roberts although he only had three
39:00or four yards to his left to go to stop that one was far too well to allow him to

39:11good shot at feet and andy roberts way out there at long on and stopped at four but
39:18and just allow two to larger

40:13some great running between the wickets they're both exhausted at the moment
40:19javits bitter and margid they're both pumping and panting there
40:24that they're in with a real chance 43 needed from 5.3 overs
40:36and pretty high go hard here and that's a run out chance
40:40nice lord the fielder at the end of the overt 43 runs needed
