00:00:00Welcome
00:00:29to PSN's presentation of the fabulous
00:00:31fourth cricket test in Kingston, Jamaica.
00:00:34It really was a defining moment
00:00:36in the annals of Australian cricket.
00:00:38David, a bit of a rollercoaster of emotion.
00:00:40They lost the third test in under three days
00:00:42in Trinidad, but suddenly at Kingston, Jamaica
00:00:44it's within reach, a great victory
00:00:46within four days. Yes, it could be
00:00:48because Australia goes to that series one all
00:00:50and a chance to take home the Frank Worrell
00:00:52trophy for the first time since
00:00:531975-76 here in Australia
00:00:55and the first time since 1973
00:00:57in the West Indies. Well, as I said,
00:00:59the series is locked at one all after three
00:01:01tests for the fourth and final deciding test
00:01:04match. Let's have a look back and see why
00:01:06the series is at one all.
00:01:1028 years after his death,
00:01:11the spirit of Frank Worrell lives in the hearts of
00:01:13the international cricket community and in
00:01:15the heads of the elite cricketers of the West Indies
00:01:17and Australia as they continue their struggle
00:01:20for supremacy in a fascinating
00:01:21series. To their unbridled
00:01:23delight, the Australians won a famous victory
00:01:25in Barbados, the West Indies being twice
00:01:28bowled out for less than 200 for the first
00:01:30time in the Caribbean. Then
00:01:32came the cursed, frustrating, unseasonal
00:01:34rains in arid Antigua.
00:01:38The dark clouds finally cleared
00:01:40for the West Indies in Trinidad when a focus
00:01:42Ritchie Richardson was demonstrably in charge
00:01:44and Kirtley Ambrose regained fitness,
00:01:46form and favour.
00:01:48Then the caravan moved on to Jamaica.
00:01:50We would have preferred
00:01:54at this stage to have been
00:01:562-0 up or something like that, but
00:02:00as it is, it's one all
00:02:02and it's down to the wire
00:02:03and it's do or die in this test match and
00:02:05we're going to make sure we do.
00:02:08They're always very mentally tough.
00:02:10They keep you playing. They've got good fast
00:02:12bowlers who kick you on your toes to the side
00:02:13all the time. You've got to be mentally tough
00:02:16and mentally aggressive and hopefully we can do
00:02:18over the next five days.
00:02:20While most batsmen battled to find
00:02:22form, Brian Lara, the Prince of Trinidad
00:02:24showed flashes of his genius against
00:02:26Shane Warne, who for once functioned
00:02:28rather than flourished.
00:02:30And all attention was
00:02:32focused on Glenn McGrath, a young man
00:02:34seeking to establish his identity in the
00:02:36international arena and Kirtley
00:02:38Ambrose battling to regain touch
00:02:39and credibility.
00:02:42And despite the drama
00:02:44of the disputed Lara catch at Barbados,
00:02:46Australia's hopes lie principally
00:02:47was Stephen Waugh, their only batsman
00:02:49in true form.
00:03:05That went.
00:03:06That really went.
00:03:07And Healy,
00:03:08of course, has got experience here
00:03:10from 1991,
00:03:12one of only five players who have
00:03:14at least a test match level
00:03:15taking off and lunging.
00:03:24And he's gone!
00:03:26Brilliantly caught by Blewett.
00:03:28Brilliantly caught, throwing himself.
00:03:31A sensational start for the Australians.
00:03:33And Blewett in tight
00:03:37at Silly Point.
00:03:42Just hurling himself
00:03:43and taking a magnificent catch
00:03:44and Rifle has struck.
00:03:46Williams has gone.
00:03:50Just seeing the replay here,
00:03:51poor Rifle banging the ball
00:03:53into the surface.
00:03:54Bounces quite a bit,
00:03:55catches the glove.
00:03:57And there's Greg Blewett
00:03:58diving away to his left.
00:03:59It's a great catch
00:04:00and a great start for Australia.
00:04:06All just in front.
00:04:07A little bit shorter
00:04:20and got inside that
00:04:23and that'll go for four.
00:04:25You always get one or two
00:04:26four balls from Brendan Zulian
00:04:27it would seem
00:04:28one for six.
00:04:29And the sense of excitement
00:04:37and the new stand,
00:04:40the disco stand
00:04:41being promoted as
00:04:42Mound Mania.
00:04:44Mound Mania
00:04:45is the mood
00:04:47on the mound stand here.
00:04:57Play that with fair control.
00:04:59See the replay here.
00:05:09Just nice soft hands
00:05:10just gliding it down
00:05:11through the
00:05:12breaking third man area
00:05:14and the way this outfield is
00:05:16that's always going to be
00:05:17four runs.
00:05:19That's a glorious shot
00:05:21back
00:05:22placing it perfectly.
00:05:25This is where Julian
00:05:26so often does stray.
00:05:29He's just so quick
00:05:38on his feet
00:05:38just
00:05:39anything that's just
00:05:40slightly
00:05:41off line or length
00:05:43is onto like a shot
00:05:44and
00:05:44for a small bloke
00:05:46he hits the ball
00:05:46unbelievably firm
00:05:47and that just races away
00:05:49four runs.
00:05:51Just great footwork
00:05:52and just gives it
00:05:53everything.
00:05:54There he is at 254
00:05:55high scoring batsman
00:05:58in the series.
00:05:59Steve Waugh is not
00:06:00far behind him
00:06:00in the 220s
00:06:01but they're the only two
00:06:04who have topped 200
00:06:05in the series
00:06:05which has been
00:06:06dominated by the
00:06:07bowlers.
00:06:08There's the famous
00:06:13Lara hip clip.
00:06:16How well is he
00:06:17seeing them
00:06:17this young man
00:06:18to play that
00:06:20to the second ball
00:06:21from McGrath
00:06:21characteristic of him
00:06:25in full flight
00:06:25for hip clip.
00:06:26Well I only dream
00:06:29about playing
00:06:30this shot
00:06:30just
00:06:31awesome stuff.
00:06:34He's sort of
00:06:35it's a trademark
00:06:36shot of his now.
00:06:38This is a great track
00:06:39and anything
00:06:40that's going to be
00:06:41slightly short
00:06:42Brian Lara
00:06:42is going to jump on.
00:06:49Slice the way
00:06:50off the edge
00:06:51didn't go
00:06:52where he intended
00:06:53but four runs
00:06:54all the same
00:06:55one for 34.
00:07:06So in case
00:07:07you wondered
00:07:07where that ball
00:07:08had gone
00:07:08there's the answer.
00:07:13Typical
00:07:13Richie Richardson
00:07:14square slash
00:07:16but there was
00:07:17the outside edge
00:07:18not up the middle.
00:07:20Typical
00:07:21West Indies
00:07:21shot there
00:07:22particularly
00:07:22from Richie.
00:07:23Just starting
00:07:24to get the groove
00:07:24in the second
00:07:25innings.
00:07:30Well that
00:07:31asphalt
00:07:31magnificently
00:07:33struck.
00:07:34It was short
00:07:35it was wide
00:07:36it was four.
00:07:39Well Tony
00:07:40that's a shot
00:07:40he's played
00:07:41some shots
00:07:41today that
00:07:42it's worth
00:07:43travelling 30
00:07:44hours on the
00:07:44plane to see.
00:07:46He's very good
00:07:46hitting it through
00:07:47mid wicket
00:07:48but what about
00:07:49that.
00:07:49He's just
00:07:50saw it short
00:07:51and he said
00:07:51I'll have some
00:07:52of that
00:07:52and he's just
00:07:54smashed it
00:07:55through
00:07:55cover point
00:07:56these shots
00:08:00that you dream
00:08:01about
00:08:01and creates
00:08:02a chance
00:08:02for you to
00:08:02make a really
00:08:03big innings.
00:08:09Beautiful
00:08:10whistle
00:08:10beautiful
00:08:12coming
00:08:12four runs
00:08:13well you just get
00:08:25on this guy's
00:08:26legs and he's
00:08:26just going to
00:08:27nail you
00:08:27he's got so much
00:08:29timing
00:08:30he just didn't
00:08:32try to hit it
00:08:32too hard
00:08:33get a pass
00:08:34booney
00:08:34and it's
00:08:37just gone
00:08:38for four
00:08:38so that's
00:08:39my point
00:08:40is whether
00:08:40you should
00:08:41just be
00:08:41too attacking
00:08:41here and
00:08:42just try
00:08:43and drive
00:08:44Brian's
00:08:44four shots
00:08:46up
00:08:46magnificent
00:08:52stroke
00:08:52no effort
00:08:54whatever
00:08:55just forward
00:08:57and heading
00:08:59through the lane
00:09:00another
00:09:01forward
00:09:01to Lara
00:09:01magnificent
00:09:05shot
00:09:06Tony
00:09:06any kids
00:09:08want to look
00:09:08at how to play
00:09:09an off drive
00:09:10off a leg
00:09:10spinner
00:09:11have a look
00:09:12at that
00:09:12to tell where
00:09:13the ball
00:09:13was going
00:09:14to where
00:09:14his foot
00:09:14was
00:09:15was pointing
00:09:16towards
00:09:17and that
00:09:20is just
00:09:20a magnificent
00:09:21shot
00:09:21for the 50
00:09:30and the crowd
00:09:33go nuts
00:09:34a wonderful
00:09:36inning so far
00:09:37from Brian Lara
00:09:38a cameo
00:09:4050
00:09:41and you
00:09:43wouldn't see
00:09:43too many
00:09:44better half
00:09:44centuries
00:09:45Mikey
00:09:45with a man
00:09:46coming in
00:09:46at the second
00:09:46delivery of the
00:09:47game
00:09:47very composed
00:09:5050 there
00:09:51by Brian Lara
00:09:51didn't look
00:09:53out of sorts
00:09:54at any stage
00:09:55and he's just
00:10:00stood there
00:10:01and he whacked
00:10:02that through
00:10:03the fence
00:10:03before
00:10:04and a man
00:10:06who would love
00:10:07to be able
00:10:07to play that
00:10:07shot
00:10:08Alan Borda
00:10:08yes the
00:10:14condition
00:10:14is very much
00:10:14is very much
00:10:14in favour
00:10:15of batting
00:10:15at the moment
00:10:16and Brian Lara
00:10:16is looking
00:10:17very ominous
00:10:18just
00:10:20beautiful shot
00:10:22on the rise
00:10:23that is
00:10:26a class
00:10:27shot
00:10:28from a class
00:10:28player
00:10:29just out of reach
00:10:34of Julian
00:10:36in the frustration
00:10:37in the frustration
00:10:37the guard dug that in
00:10:41got inside of it, didn't get it
00:10:43he got it high on the bat
00:10:44it's a single, it gives him his 300th run
00:10:47for the series
00:10:48good effort from all concerned there
00:10:55the bowler digging the ball in
00:10:56false stroke from Brian Lyra
00:10:59and unfortunately
00:11:00Brendan Dillon couldn't get back
00:11:03very athletic man
00:11:05but things are running
00:11:07Brian Lyra's way this morning
00:11:09it just goes to show
00:11:19he didn't get that as he liked
00:11:20Slater couldn't make the interception
00:11:22the speed of the outfield
00:11:25it's four more
00:11:26just dragged down
00:11:34slightly, Brian Lyra
00:11:35probably didn't hit that perfectly well
00:11:37but
00:11:37just shows you how quick this outfield is
00:11:41and how good the wicket is playing
00:11:43Leaning forward
00:11:47and great embrace
00:11:49and he's gone
00:11:52he has walked
00:11:53what an astonishing moment
00:11:58Levenberg
00:12:00didn't make
00:12:01any reaction
00:12:03certainly
00:12:05Warne and Healy
00:12:05were sure
00:12:07and Lyra has walked
00:12:09one of the more
00:12:17unanimated
00:12:18type dismissals
00:12:19you see the ball pitching
00:12:22just catching the inside edge of the bat
00:12:24flying up
00:12:25good reactions from
00:12:27Ian Healy
00:12:28and
00:12:29Brian Lyra
00:12:31walks
00:12:31would have been interesting to see
00:12:33what Carl Liedenberg's reaction would have been
00:12:35well that is a glorious shot
00:12:41from Adams
00:12:41advancing
00:12:43to Warne
00:12:44placing it beautifully
00:12:48no chance for Slater
00:12:50here we see
00:12:59Jimmy
00:12:59just
00:13:00advancing down the track
00:13:01getting to the
00:13:02pitch of the ball
00:13:03and hitting that very firmly
00:13:04through the mid-off region
00:13:05there's a glorious shot
00:13:12from Adams
00:13:14oh and
00:13:15doesn't his fans
00:13:16just love it
00:13:17class shot by Jimmy Adams
00:13:27it's not one of his great strengths
00:13:29to hit it past the ball
00:13:30he likes to hit it through the covers normally
00:13:32but here he is
00:13:33he just
00:13:33nice and straight
00:13:34and hit through it
00:13:35and this type of wicket
00:13:36it's just a beauty
00:13:37he knows how good it is
00:13:38it's his turf here
00:13:40gone
00:13:51straight to Slater
00:13:54short
00:13:57just miscued
00:14:01he'll be very disappointed with that
00:14:06will Jimmy Adams
00:14:07the Australians delighted
00:14:08each time
00:14:10the West Indies
00:14:11threatening to just
00:14:11to take it away
00:14:12they've got the capacity
00:14:14to destroy
00:14:14there's a soft dismissal here
00:14:17for Jimmy
00:14:18drops one in
00:14:20and just gets it high
00:14:21on the bat
00:14:22and a little bit late
00:14:23and Slater makes up
00:14:24that little error
00:14:24made in slips
00:14:25and that is the type
00:14:27of dismissal they wanted
00:14:28the West Indies now
00:14:29a three
00:14:30for 131
00:14:31lovely shot from Hooper
00:14:35and no better way
00:14:37to fix your timing
00:14:38than a square cut
00:14:39hit perfectly
00:14:40between the gully
00:14:42and the point
00:14:43fills in before
00:14:43very good shot
00:14:49by Carl Hooper
00:14:50he tried that same shot
00:14:52earlier on
00:14:53in this
00:14:54very same over
00:14:55but didn't quite time it
00:14:56on this occasion
00:14:57he did perfectly
00:14:58fine stroke
00:15:10and the boundary
00:15:14straight down the ground
00:15:15is short enough
00:15:16that it can reach it
00:15:17for a boundary
00:15:18so four runs to
00:15:19Richardson
00:15:22that brings up
00:15:22his half century
00:15:23crowd appreciating
00:15:36a great captain's knock
00:15:37from Richie Richardson
00:15:38he's battled hard
00:15:41for his runs
00:15:42play a very solid
00:15:43innings here
00:15:44for his team
00:15:45Bond 2 blew it
00:15:50that really came
00:15:51like a shot
00:15:51from a gun
00:15:52just stops
00:15:56inside the boundary
00:15:56they'll come back
00:15:57for three
00:15:57typical
00:15:59Richie Richardson
00:15:59stroke
00:16:00when Richie's in form
00:16:09this is the shot
00:16:11that gets him
00:16:11a great number
00:16:13of runs
00:16:13and when you give
00:16:14him any width
00:16:15he just gives it
00:16:17the kitchen sink
00:16:17and Greg Lord
00:16:19knows all about
00:16:19that there
00:16:20that was coming
00:16:21quite rapid
00:16:22that's the second
00:16:28one that's going
00:16:29to do it
00:16:29perhaps not
00:16:30the ideal bounce
00:16:31for him
00:16:31and it was struck
00:16:33hard
00:16:33yes he'll be a bit
00:16:40disappointed
00:16:40with this effort
00:16:41the last one
00:16:42he could be
00:16:42excused for
00:16:43and for this
00:16:45particular shot
00:16:45here
00:16:46hit very firmly
00:16:48through the point
00:16:48region
00:16:48but just beaten
00:16:51by
00:16:51well we'll give
00:16:52him the benefit
00:16:52of the doubt
00:16:53just a little bit
00:16:53of a bad bounce
00:16:54there
00:16:54yes Mike
00:16:58it's a very good
00:16:58move for Mark
00:16:59Taylor I believe
00:17:00to put Mr Mark
00:17:02Warren
00:17:02commonly known as
00:17:03Junior
00:17:03he's the last
00:17:05twin born
00:17:07all called
00:17:11pretty boy
00:17:12and he can tell
00:17:13with a face
00:17:14like that
00:17:14it's gone a long
00:17:18way
00:17:19it's over the top
00:17:20at six
00:17:21he's not afraid
00:17:23to drop it short
00:17:24which is not afraid
00:17:26to get inside
00:17:26it either
00:17:27magnificent shot
00:17:29what a play there
00:17:35by Richie
00:17:36used the right arm
00:17:37uppercut
00:17:38hit it
00:17:39right in the screws
00:17:41must have travelled
00:17:42at least
00:17:43oh 75 yards
00:17:45as I said
00:17:46he hit one out of the
00:17:47out of the ground
00:17:48last time
00:17:49that's great camera work
00:17:50there
00:17:50pick that up
00:17:57as only Hooper
00:17:58can
00:17:59Hooper of course
00:18:02has become
00:18:03Warren's nemesis
00:18:04he picks it up
00:18:07so quickly
00:18:08but what a shot
00:18:10he's been watching
00:18:10our spin vision camera
00:18:11and if you can just
00:18:14watch the back of the
00:18:14hand it comes out
00:18:15at the back of the
00:18:16hand
00:18:17and watch the scene
00:18:18going the other way
00:18:19a little bit of frustration
00:18:23though creeping in
00:18:24but it's a good chance
00:18:27for Brendan Julian
00:18:28to pick a wicket up here
00:18:29and I just think
00:18:30he's just starting
00:18:31to hit his straps
00:18:31again Michael
00:18:32you're right
00:18:37he has hit his straps
00:18:39caught by Warren
00:18:41driving away
00:18:43he picked that
00:18:48perfectly Dean
00:18:49driving away
00:18:50from his body
00:18:50a good bowling
00:18:51change by Taylor
00:18:52Hooper again
00:18:53fails when he
00:18:55seemed to be set
00:18:56playing away
00:18:57from his body
00:18:58Mark Waugh
00:18:59perhaps the finest
00:19:01catches in the world
00:19:02the finest hands
00:19:03in the world
00:19:04and he's taken it
00:19:04effortlessly
00:19:05well the left hand
00:19:06is angled here
00:19:07and he's just gone
00:19:07for a big wide shot
00:19:09and he has got
00:19:10great hands
00:19:10this guy
00:19:11I tell you
00:19:11fantastic catch
00:19:13and again
00:19:14Carl Hooper
00:19:14gets out softly
00:19:15ball he gets
00:19:17for 188
00:19:18it's a handsome
00:19:25start for
00:19:25Arthurton
00:19:26over pitching
00:19:31Arthurton with his reach
00:19:34it's a lovely shot
00:19:37well this guy feeds off
00:19:39adrenaline
00:19:40foot to the pitch
00:19:43the ball away
00:19:43his toes pointing
00:19:44towards where he wants
00:19:45to hit it
00:19:45and the elbow through
00:19:46you can tell where guys
00:19:47want to hit it
00:19:48from where their foot is
00:19:49their front foot
00:19:50and that's just a
00:19:52magnificent shot
00:19:53what a great start
00:19:54for him here
00:19:54and there is a great drive
00:19:59using his feet
00:20:02he hasn't hit it as
00:20:04sweetly as we'd like
00:20:05for much of the day
00:20:06but he'd be delighted
00:20:06with that
00:20:07and so have the crowd
00:20:08this was a very good shot
00:20:12here by Richard Richardson
00:20:13for the first occasion
00:20:15in quite some time
00:20:17we have seen
00:20:17Shane Warne
00:20:19attacking Richard Richardson
00:20:21on that line
00:20:22outside the off stump
00:20:23and Richard Richardson
00:20:24using his feet
00:20:25beautifully there
00:20:26high, long, handsome
00:20:32into the new stand
00:20:34as we've seen
00:20:38Arthurton launch
00:20:39into Warne
00:20:39on a couple of occasions
00:20:40during this series
00:20:42that's a very big blow
00:20:44high over long off
00:20:46into the stand
00:20:48that has become
00:20:49the valentine stand
00:20:50and he hit it
00:20:51on the off side
00:20:52inside out
00:20:54very good shot
00:20:56he's gone
00:21:00outside the off stump
00:21:01edged
00:21:02around the ricket
00:21:03Arthurton goes to McGrath
00:21:04the West Indies
00:21:05lose their fifth picket
00:21:06for 220
00:21:07and once again
00:21:08a batsman who is
00:21:09seemingly set
00:21:10has been dismissed
00:21:11Polly was a little bit
00:21:16anxious to try to get
00:21:17on the front foot here
00:21:18McGrath realised that
00:21:21on the front foot
00:21:21not quite to the pitch
00:21:23of the ball
00:21:23and a really good catch
00:21:25to Ian Healy
00:21:26diving in front of him
00:21:27to his left
00:21:28and that's a great wicket
00:21:29for Clem McGrath
00:21:30and West Indies
00:21:31are in a little bit
00:21:32of trouble
00:21:32at 5 for 220
00:21:33that's classic Richard Richardson
00:21:42that'll take him to 99
00:21:43and that's a great point
00:21:44and that's a great point
00:21:48just staying a bit there
00:21:51I've seen Rituri
00:21:54taking the shot
00:21:56so many times before
00:21:59And Lebrun just string a bit there.
00:22:06I've seen Rituri taking play this shot so many times before.
00:22:15One to go.
00:22:27That's it.
00:22:53Big shout and that's out.
00:22:55Yes it is.
00:22:58Attending to whack the ball around behind, squirreling across the line.
00:23:03And again an undisciplined last ball shot.
00:23:08We have been talking about the tail-inders trying to stay with the batsman.
00:23:13This is not the shot that was required at this stage.
00:23:16The ball pitched straight, went straight and would have hit straight on mid-stump.
00:23:21That's out.
00:23:23As umpire Buckner has signalled.
00:23:26It's 7 for 250 the West Indies.
00:23:30Richard Richardson has faced only 16 balls since he got to that landmark, that century.
00:23:40This is his 17th.
00:23:43Big shout, that's out.
00:23:44So the new ball for Australia has taken two wickets already and it's only five deliveries old.
00:23:56And the end of a wonderful innings from the West Indies captain.
00:23:59Stuck on a hundred and just couldn't get off it.
00:24:04Well as I was saying he wasn't on strike too often.
00:24:08And then that certainly was plumb again.
00:24:12Pitching just outside of Alstom.
00:24:13Richard Richardson not coming a long way forward.
00:24:16End of an excellent innings for his team.
00:24:198 for 251 the West Indies.
00:24:21It's in the air.
00:24:22David Boone gets it.
00:24:23He will and he won't drop that.
00:24:24So, Steve Waugh has done it again.
00:24:25The new ball.
00:24:26Three wickets in the three overs.
00:24:27Fort Noir was completely received by that delivery from Steve Waugh.
00:24:29He had seen Steve Waugh ball quite a few quick short balls to Fort Noir.
00:24:30Ambrose and went on his back foot.
00:24:31Slow delivery and he just scooped it up in the air.
00:24:32Caught on the onside by David Boone.
00:24:33It's nine down for two.
00:24:34So, Steve Waugh has done it again.
00:24:35So, Steve Waugh has done it again.
00:24:36The new ball.
00:24:37Three wickets in the three overs.
00:24:42Fort Noir was completely received by that delivery from Steve Waugh.
00:24:46He had seen Steve Waugh ball quite a few quick short balls to Fort Noir.
00:24:51And he went on his back foot.
00:24:53Slow delivery and he just scooped it up in the air.
00:24:56Caught on the onside by David Boone.
00:24:58It's nine down for 2.54.
00:25:05Well, he certainly laid back onto that one.
00:25:09Hammond back past the Buller.
00:25:20That would have to be one of the best of the day.
00:25:23Any of the batsmen who preceded him would have been happy with that one.
00:25:27And for a number 11.
00:25:30Well, that was one for the book.
00:25:32Attempted Yorker from Glen McGrath.
00:25:34And Kenny Benjamin gets a good piece of that one.
00:25:37Excellent straight drive.
00:25:39Four more runs.
00:25:40That's the end of the innings.
00:25:41Good catch by Healy.
00:25:42High to his right.
00:25:43And it's all over.
00:25:44A rifle picks up the last wicket.
00:25:45The West Indies are all out for 265.
00:25:46With Benjamin out caught by Healy.
00:25:47Off a rifle for five.
00:25:48Leaving Ambrose six.
00:25:49And no wonder they're smiling.
00:25:50It's been a good day for the Australians.
00:25:52Once again, the low scoring series continued with just Richie Richardson scoring a century.
00:25:53The first century of the series.
00:25:55Brian Lara.
00:25:56Another cameo performance for 65.
00:25:57But after that, it wasn't too much joy for the West Indies.
00:25:58Just 265.
00:25:59And again, they failed to bat 90 overs.
00:26:00Which is a full day's play.
00:26:01For Australia.
00:26:02The wickets are shared as they had been all series.
00:26:03Rifle and Julian with the new ball.
00:26:04McGrath surprisingly.
00:26:05Again, not taking advantage of that.
00:26:06But it's been a good day for the Australians.
00:26:07It's been a good day for the Australians.
00:26:08Once again, the low scoring series continued with just Richie Richardson scoring a century.
00:26:13The first century of the series.
00:26:15Brian Lara.
00:26:16Another cameo performance for 65.
00:26:17But after that, it wasn't too much joy for the West Indies.
00:26:20Just 265.
00:26:21And again, they failed to bat 90 overs.
00:26:23Which is a full day's play.
00:26:24For Australia.
00:26:25The wickets are shared as they had been all series.
00:26:27Rifle and Julian with the new ball.
00:26:29McGrath surprisingly.
00:26:30Again, not taking the new ball.
00:26:32But Warne and Warne did a bit of damage in the middle.
00:26:34With two wickets apiece.
00:26:35So Australia has to chase 265.
00:26:37And they like to get a big lead.
00:26:38So let's see how Australia did in that chase of 265.
00:26:49Kirk Lee Ambrose.
00:26:50Going to start the West Indies bowling.
00:26:53Australian captain Mark Taylor will take strike.
00:26:57As we get ready for the first ball of day two.
00:27:00Australia.
00:27:01With a West Indies score of 265 already on the board.
00:27:05Now going after it.
00:27:06Big crowd in the ready.
00:27:07And here's the first ball of the day.
00:27:09Not much change in the pitch.
00:27:20Of course.
00:27:21There's a bit of wear on it.
00:27:22From the Bullers foot marks there.
00:27:24Running in the danger area.
00:27:26Who cracks?
00:27:28Looks as if he's batting on the late stump guard there.
00:27:38Well hit.
00:27:39Beautifully struck.
00:27:41Very confident.
00:27:42In position very early.
00:27:44And four runs from the turn it left about.
00:27:46In the air.
00:27:47Lobbed.
00:27:48Just over the Bullers head.
00:27:49Well they haven't got a man in that position.
00:27:50But the.
00:27:51Hook shot was on again.
00:27:52Lucky to get away with it.
00:27:53I think we see here.
00:27:54He's hit this right on.
00:27:55The cue of the bat.
00:27:56Very very fortunate to get away with that.
00:27:57Beautifully taken.
00:27:58What a magnificent catch by Jimmy Adams.
00:27:59We might have seen it.
00:28:00We might have seen it.
00:28:01We might have seen it.
00:28:02Just over the Bullers head.
00:28:03Well they haven't got a man in that position.
00:28:04But the.
00:28:05Hook shot was on again.
00:28:06Lucky to get away with it.
00:28:07That we see here.
00:28:08He's hit this right on.
00:28:10The cue of the.
00:28:11That.
00:28:12Very very fortunate to get away with that.
00:28:17Beautifully taken.
00:28:22What a magnificent catch by Jimmy Adams.
00:28:25Remarkable.
00:28:52Well we spoke a while ago about the quality of the catching in this series.
00:28:54And there has been none better than that.
00:28:55Mark Taylor can feel the grief.
00:28:56This is an absolute great catch.
00:28:57Mark Taylor has absolutely hammered that.
00:28:58That is unbelievable.
00:28:59He's 101st test now of course.
00:29:00That's what he's done for the series so far.
00:29:01Below average series for him.
00:29:02But it's been a below average series for everyone.
00:29:03Half century coming in the test match in Antigua.
00:29:04100th test match in Port of Spain.
00:29:10And there's the overall average.
00:29:11That is the third man of the match.
00:29:12That is the third man of the match.
00:29:13That is the third man of the match.
00:29:14One.
00:29:15One.
00:29:16One.
00:29:17One.
00:29:18One.
00:29:19One.
00:29:20One.
00:29:21One.
00:29:22One.
00:29:23One.
00:29:24One.
00:29:25One.
00:29:26One.
00:29:27come on right under test match in port of spain and there's the overall average
00:29:34is the third moment of the match
00:29:43ah
00:29:53shot by david boone and no point in running for that if you're a fieldsman that is a lovely lovely on drive
00:30:04david boone is very very good at those on drives straight down the pitch on the on the side of the
00:30:11wicket you could see that ball wasn't on the leg side at all but it was heading towards the leg
00:30:17stump and he just played it with a nice straight bat very comfortably down to long arm we have now two
00:30:27slips in place there they are first and second slip lara and hooper put a big gap to that man at gulley
00:30:36and the mid on is just out of your picture on the right
00:30:42there he is clog clogging that gap richard richards
00:30:46it's in the air right about for them great piece of fielding because both australian
00:31:00baseman started to go
00:31:03and the left hand was out
00:31:05that wasn't really a ball to be driven that ball was nowhere near driving lens
00:31:14there it is
00:31:20single to david boone takes you second on the list
00:31:31well they are good statisticians they are aware of david boone's statistics and the fact that he's now
00:31:40second in the list of australian batsmen
00:31:50it's in the air there's a man down there
00:31:51the west indies have targeted all summer as perhaps australia's most pivotal player
00:32:12following the retirement of alan water first series that australia has contested against the west indies
00:32:16since 1978 with captain grumpy not playing
00:32:22so david boone is the man that reminds of the west indies at least
00:32:27he needs to be dismissed
00:32:32he's had a go and i think he's achieved just that he has so boone's not too pleased
00:32:40and as the umpire calls drinks the west indies celebrate
00:32:46well david boone isn't too happy at all it's obvious he wasn't too happy when he saw the finger
00:32:55go up i'm not too sure if he was disappointed with the shot that he played or with the fact that
00:32:59he has been given out we'll have to take a very close look at this to see exactly what happened
00:33:06but a very uncharacteristic shot from david boone at any rate you hardly see david boone hooking
00:33:11let's have a close look at this short ball from currently ambrose let's have a look
00:33:24well if that hit anything it seems as if it hit the helmet that's probably why david boone was a bit
00:33:29disappointed it's two for fifty it's going to be a great test of mark war's character and strength now
00:33:37that was predictable very predictable mark war played that well but he is going to be in for a
00:33:51very very tired time mr ambrose just saying good morning mark
00:33:58that's a glorious shot that's characteristic of mark war in full flight australians will be encouraged
00:34:10by that fantastic shot that's one of his strengths he has made a 200 against the west indies playing
00:34:17for new south wales just rocks on the back foot and just pumps it through backward point
00:34:22and as you said mike i'm quite amazed that dunrage isn't in the gully he's had a point but maybe i
00:34:28think he had a sore thumb turn to pull i'm sorry
00:34:43that's four it's all happening here michael slater does is not frightened to take these guys on i admire
00:34:51the guy's courage we try to really shell this one we've got it high on the bat and straight over the
00:34:56wicker keeper's head it's probably the best place to hit these guys straight off the helmet well
00:35:05there you go
00:35:10just in front of adams lunging again
00:35:15magnificent reactions again but he had to go forward and to his left
00:35:20but he's in such touch at the moment one senses he can do it
00:35:26well he's trying to work that one around the leg side and just to his credit he makes
00:35:29something out of nothing he just bounced in front of him
00:35:37in the air lara takes it beautifully
00:35:49well it was always going to happen the way michael slater was playing this morning
00:36:02chancing his arm once again short ball
00:36:05hit top edge ish brian lara moving fantastically to his right takes a superb catch which is
00:36:16starting to become regulation for this series
00:36:17the end of michael slater for 27 australia three for 73. there's no prize for guessing uh
00:36:27the sort of welcome stephen war is going to get at the crease
00:36:30a lot of short pitch stuff with those blokes in close waiting for the pop chance
00:36:35the west indies aggression this morning they're really in this match
00:36:48it's gone very fine and gone for four
00:36:56and the pressure will be on straight away for mark war
00:37:08he's got the leg gully
00:37:09short leg in he's got the short cover or distance silly mid off
00:37:19so the pressure is on mark war
00:37:21sways inside it so it's an incredibly intense time for the australian scene and
00:37:31if ever australia is need the the brothers war to perform this is the moment
00:37:36encouraging sign for the australians
00:37:48curtly unbelievably sloppy again in the field
00:37:56that's a lovely shot
00:38:00that's the shot of the one australian batsman who's been consistently in touch
00:38:07well i said before don't give steve war any room outside off stump
00:38:12because that's what happens to you
00:38:19a glorious shot the square drive
00:38:23majesty in that majesty
00:38:29well mark says well steve if you can play that shot i can too
00:38:33just gave the war brothers a bit of room didn't try to hit it too hard the timing
00:38:42and the poise and a very good effort in the field there but again it's gone for four and
00:38:47this is one of the problems that benjamin has he follows a couple of good ones
00:38:52but at the same time it just doesn't get his line right
00:38:54good players like these two fellas will jump on it
00:39:03well no third man again and he's letting the pace of the ball do the work
00:39:07and it would have been a boundary for any other man chasing it but that man there
00:39:12and after them will receive the applause of the crowd and so will mark war for his half century
00:39:19very good half century to mark will the australian fans there pretty pleased
00:39:22and that will about a third of the way as to where he wants to be
00:39:34put it down
00:39:37well poor courtney brown will not be feeling too happy about that that was the breakthrough
00:39:41and the new west indies keeper has dropped what really should have been a regulation chance
00:39:46got both gloves to it
00:39:51so stephen war
00:39:54pushing outside that up stump and that ball fairly flew through to the keeper but
00:39:59one that you're expecting to hang on to so just clutching a good outside edge
00:40:15and that just rubs salt in the wounds
00:40:30i suppose something had to
00:40:33had to give it's a great shot through the upper point area somebody had to give with this fielding
00:40:45and for once he's alert and for once he's hit the trinity
00:41:02quick single taking curly got onto it low the agility of a guy obviously he's made it pretty
00:41:06easily in but stumps just jumped out everywhere
00:41:16the glorious drive from war and stephen
00:41:21well fielded but there's his 50
00:41:25his fourth half century for the series acknowledges the crowd
00:41:32the australians
00:41:33dancing there
00:41:38greg lewitt
00:41:40would be as relieved i think as anything that he's had that little extra time to compose himself
00:41:44and this has been a wonderful performance by steve war
00:41:47had only played two test matches in the caribbean before this series despite playing more than 70
00:41:52times for his country and he really has proved himself
00:41:55beautiful worker in trouble here went to the wrong end did chander paul but his reactions were just sensational
00:42:09and again the two wars in trouble running but that is magnificent work by chander paul three for 203
00:42:19this is the highest partnership in the series beating the 124 by brian lower and carl hooper in bridgetown
00:42:26it's a great distinction for the war brothers
00:42:31the toughest challenge in the west indies is to to play in savannah park
00:42:41they've met the challenge admiral in this time it's beyond chander paul he made a desperate dive
00:42:53but not even his young eyes and young legs could reach that three for 208
00:42:58that's well hit tremendous blow way over mid-wicket got under it from the time that left the bat and
00:43:10you heard the sound you know where it was going to go
00:43:14what a magnificent shot hit it over cowie corner deep mid-wicket on one knee
00:43:19and really cave it some didn't try to over hit it
00:43:38but he will not be on 90 game any longer his eighth first century for mark war
00:43:42applause from the australian players and from the spectators around the ground it's been a fine
00:43:51and very important in his chances by mark war and he and his brother steve have pulled australia out of
00:43:58some difficulty when there were 72 for three before the break and here are a couple of australians
00:44:06trying to get our onto the ground to congratulate him and quite rightly sent back by the constabulary
00:44:13that's what he's trying to say he's got another stick on the on the thigh man stick man
00:44:23he's played marvelously well he said he wanted to put one on today
00:44:28and that's a fabulous effort for him
00:44:32jamaica is the biggest of the islands which comprise the west indies cricket team
00:44:39that's montego bay on the north coast very famous tourist resort
00:44:47kingston where sabina park is located is on the south coast
00:44:51and we got there pretty quickly so here is mark war now on his e100 to face winston benjamin
00:45:04and in the commentary box david hooks and alan border
00:45:07thanks tony and a wonderful moment for that man there
00:45:14and here's his skypad and a little stick man gets added every time he makes a century that's on his
00:45:22skypad the ones with double heads are two double centuries they're not tasmanian stick men they
00:45:30represent his double hundreds
00:45:35there they are the men of the moment stephen roger war and mark edward war born four minutes apart
00:45:42and now in the approaching their 30th birthday having their finest hour in the test team
00:45:54it's only their second century stand
00:46:00umpires conferring
00:46:02the light meters
00:46:08of course steve buckner knows the ground very well he's a jamaican he's on home territory
00:46:18i've decided that
00:46:22proceedings can continue
00:46:32going to go for it he's completed it
00:46:42lifts his back to the dressing room
00:46:46mark taylor stands his captain
00:46:51probably his finest moment his eighth test match century his second against the west indies
00:46:58and his first in the west indies
00:47:03raises his back to the australian supporters
00:47:07and now he's going to speak with his brother shake hands in a matter-of-fact manner
00:47:13this is different to a 100 in the backyard of mums
00:47:17there's the australian flag and this will mean so much to stephen war
00:47:25he's been under a tremendous amount of pressure throughout this tour
00:47:41and it's a wonderful achievement for him he'd only played two test matches previously in the west indies
00:47:52despite being australia's second most senior player
00:47:56and after one breathtaking moment for his brother mark war who's played the innings of his lifetime is out of hoopers bowling
00:48:25another one another one of those deliveries that pitched in the rough but a bit of bounce a bit of turn
00:48:33love pad and jimera richard jimera adams again being the job it's 4-3-0-4 australia
00:48:46there he goes mark war after a truly wonderful innings
00:48:58a bit of an ugly time for batsman this day you're starting to try and keep negative thoughts out of your head
00:49:10try and not worry about getting out
00:49:11there's nothing worse than getting out in the last over the day i tell you no matter how many runs you've made
00:49:24so the last ball of the second day of this fourth final and decisive
00:49:33cable and wireless test and australia end it with a lead of 56
00:49:39with six wickets standing a position which is almost entirely due to a fourth wicket partnership of 231
00:49:49before the closest pair in international cricket the war twins
00:49:55well what a spectacular board for the australians after a series dominated by the exploits of the bowlers
00:49:59suddenly the batsman fire and it was mark war with a magnificent 126 splendidly supported
00:50:05by his older brother stephen with an unbeaten 110 a partnership of 231 and only the second time
00:50:12that they've been involved in 100 plus partnership in test match cricket a wonderful achievement by them
00:50:17and of course it was the west indies took a real hammering with their walsh with two for 65 again
00:50:23the best of the bowlers ambrose one for 48 other than that there was not much joy at all so a wonderful
00:50:29day indeed for the brothers war and david hooks took the opportunity after to speak to mark about his
00:50:35tough day at the office yeah i mean to make 100 against the west indies in jamaica is probably a good
00:50:41a test you can get and uh it was a good wicket to bat on but uh you know you're always in the back of
00:50:46your mind you know they've got four fast bowlers you know who can bang the ball in and uh can get
00:50:50you out any ball mate a lot of short pitch bowling today uh the law as it stands the one over the head
00:50:55it doesn't seem to be very consistent i'm not blaming the umpire but just it must be a difficult
00:50:59one to umpire yeah i've got a sore back from bloody leaning back all day i must admit
00:51:03it's uh that's the way they play their crickets um they're definitely hard to score against when
00:51:08they're flying through here uh but they win games like that so you you can't expect them to bolt
00:51:12too many half volleys now what about uh batting with your brother uh only one as i recall one
00:51:16previous century stand in test cricket with steve there's been plenty of speculation that perhaps
00:51:20he should bat at six he doesn't uh bat too well with you well they put played to that today yeah
00:51:25well that puts that theory uh behind us uh we've had a few good partnerships uh we made 464 against the
00:51:31wackers in perth one year and we're both fairly aggressive players and if we can get going then you know we
00:51:36can score runs quickly and that's what we did today well a priceless opportunity for stephen war
00:51:42to build further on that splendid foundation laid by mark war what a wonderful hundred that was indeed
00:51:47by mark war and also young greg blewitt who perhaps was struggling to live up to his rave notices
00:51:52before the tour had another chance to prove his mettle
00:52:06well struck just eased it down the ground for the first boundary of the day
00:52:23well struck
00:52:27that was a stroke full of authority four from the time it left the bat his second pull for
00:52:32four off umbrose
00:52:37as i mentioned earlier the feature of his batting or his two test entries to date against england was
00:52:42his pull shot and hooking another example of it there just perfectly in the line
00:52:48well welcome to savannah park kenny
00:52:56two consecutive cover drives to blew it a three and a boundary
00:52:59cutting
00:53:10cutting safely
00:53:14and there's his 15
00:53:18raises his bats tips his cap
00:53:21from australian supporters underneath the southern cross
00:53:33it's in the air but he's placed it well behind square
00:53:37well out of reach of benjamin it's four for 396
00:53:54very good running again by steve war realizing courtney walsh
00:53:57he's not got a good arm and it brings the australians 400 up
00:54:04the boys are australian flags did we do there
00:54:11catch it
00:54:12well taken he's got him
00:54:14keith atherton has broken the partnership with what really was a long hot
00:54:20greg blurt got back and gave it everything and a good catch by winston benjamin
00:54:24200 to his right breaks the standard
00:54:31this is amazing how often this happens
00:54:35part-time bowler short of the length greg blurt gave that the kitchen sink and
00:54:41quite a good catch there at mid-wicket from this and benjamin the only man in that area
00:54:45the half of them strikes a bifal blow for the west indies tremendous innings there from greg blurt
00:54:5569. you see the shot pulling it very firmly into mid-wicket and that that is a very good catch
00:55:01because he's hit that very very hard unfortunately for greg blurt straight to the man at mid-wicket
00:55:07he's got that very sweetly he was really digging it out one would have thought
00:55:20and that's the glory shot
00:55:30steve ward just pushed at this just a little forward defensive
00:55:34and he's just timed it really well firstly that's a good sign he's got a very good bat
00:55:39and secondly that just the timing it just shows if he plays straight enough long enough and these
00:55:44short boundaries particularly straight that you'll go for four he's probably actually enjoying
00:55:49getting on the front foot occasionally to the west indies now
00:55:56there it is 150 for steve war
00:56:01lifts his back to the crowd again
00:56:04michael slater
00:56:11leading the applause from the rooms
00:56:16there the frank world trophy we are going home says the optimists
00:56:24there may have been a banner like that that was launched at adelaide oval
00:56:28in 92-3
00:56:29being taken down fairly promptly
00:56:36gone
00:56:39healy is out
00:56:40quarter slip by lara lunging forward
00:56:46benjamin winston benjamin strikes
00:56:50to the relief of richie richardson
00:56:53ian healy just went a little bit hard with his with his hands the ball just shaped away a little
00:57:01bit but lara's just got beautifully soft hands just falling over and healy's out for six and australia
00:57:09six for four hundred thirty three
00:57:16good aggression by benjamin
00:57:20two aggressive figures confronting each other there
00:57:22dramatic picture that i'm doing just making sure that steve war knows that he's still in the game
00:57:35well you couldn't see any better than the first one when he caught mark taylor
00:57:51and james adams has done it again
00:58:00but he certainly makes them look easy at times jimmy adams
00:58:04this again was not a ball lob off the bat was flicked off the hips
00:58:09and jimmy adams sneer is another a sem for 449 australia
00:58:24i don't think he's too happy with that blow
00:58:26and we'll just have a look at this in the replay
00:58:38i can't quite see what the problem is unless he's sort of twisted something uh
00:58:44so i'm going to play that ball
00:58:47oh that's let's hit him in the ribs or
00:58:50closer look here it's
00:58:57lifting delivery and
00:59:00oh that's hit him on the elbow yes
00:59:03of the of the back arm is you see him wearing a shut uh an arm guard in the front arm but
00:59:08just missed the bat and bang
00:59:15he's driven that handsomely
00:59:20rifle no slouches a batsman as you well know skipper
00:59:25it's also playing for east lancashire and has done a fair bit of batting as well in the leagues
00:59:29and just smacked that through the covers
00:59:37and still they're pounding it in and still steve war gets off the ground and defends
00:59:43that's his highest score in test match cricket 178
00:59:58well that finishes off the partnership in the most spectacular fashion you can want
01:00:01well the crowd are jubilant they've been waiting for a long time for a wicket
01:00:14and here you say paul rifle quite outside this one
01:00:23now australia have progressed to eight for 522
01:00:27well easily no no finger to be built on here
01:00:39i'm now taking a comfortable catch at first that two look at staff for kenny benjamin in the same over
01:00:44and steve war remains on 195
01:00:52now he's brought the field in richie richardson
01:00:59and that could go for four there's a long chaser on for kenny benjamin who's picked it up rather late
01:01:04they could run for here kenny benjamin is not the fastest of fielders in the west indies team
01:01:09and they'll come for the fourth which will bring him up his 200
01:01:15what a magnificent effort
01:01:19one of the greatest moments in his career we've got australians running out from everywhere here
01:01:26standing ovation here at kingston
01:01:34sometimes it's a bit of a shame here when the crowd comes out
01:01:42to congratulate him but it's better off when the crowd staying off the ground and off the wicket
01:01:46and giving steve wall a bit of air and take the applause from the crowd
01:01:57and it keeps so much away from the moment of the batsman
01:02:00when they're coming all over the place to congratulate him
01:02:18appeal and he's given so steve was out stood there to wait for the decision and kenny benjamin
01:02:25picks up the last few tickets and steve war goes caught by lara off that bouncer
01:02:33for an even 200 australia 531
01:02:41lead by 266 when the western is will have another 15 overs to back to see out the day perhaps 14.
01:02:52what a fine innings by steve war last man out came in with australia struggling at 73 for three
01:02:58and leaves with them all out for 531
01:03:10well richie richardson definitive richie richardson
01:03:15well that may be the shot of the match
01:03:30you don't hit them any better or any more sweetly than that
01:03:34we're talking about vintage richardson this is another indication of that and he's hit that very
01:03:45hard and high and bang that's six runs and it's going to be happy that he didn't hit that lower as
01:03:54david boone at that pad
01:04:00out court and bold
01:04:02and the breakthrough that australia so desperately wanted this evening
01:04:07which is not getting to the pitch of the ball and the ultimate suffering
01:04:10the australia is absolutely ecstatic with that bike through they wanted
01:04:22board just seem to be drifting down the next side but richie richardson
01:04:27got to that a little bit early maybe it held up on the wicket a little bit
01:04:31hit it straight back to paul rifle and he's got the safest hands in the business
01:04:35makes no mistake and richie richards parts for 14 score one for 37
01:04:45oh he's hit straight in front of him he's gone
01:04:49what a sensational breakthrough for the australians rifle
01:04:55and right he's been engulfed by his teammates right back it stayed down
01:04:59about karl liebenberg had no hesitation
01:05:06lara is out well that ball kept very low and hit him pretty much in line the question is did it
01:05:11pitch in that in line with the stumps well that is debatable it certainly would have hit the stumps
01:05:17but i'm not too sure that it did pitch in line with the stumps anyway it's two foot out of the seven
01:05:21the west end is
01:05:22great on he's played on and sure williams is out
01:05:35well we have had a few three day test matches but i don't think this one will be three days
01:05:58of course there isn't enough time left but the rest is certainly aren't staying at the piece very
01:06:02long at all so williams they are playing a long way away from his pads the ball hitting the inside
01:06:08half of the bat back down onto the stumps three wickets down for the west indies 46 on the run on the
01:06:18just out of reach of tyler
01:06:24went very very quickly
01:06:29it's wide of taylor
01:06:32it's three for 58.
01:06:36well a match-winning day for australia steve wars 200 he was rewarded by being australia's best
01:06:40batsman and the double century certainly topped off his series greg blew it at last some faith from
01:06:45the selectors 69 and the tail wagged slightly for the west indies not too much to write home about
01:06:50about their bowling three wickets apiece to waltz and benjamin the most interesting aspect 59 overs from
01:06:56the spinners but after that innings there was plenty more drama in the last hour of play as
01:07:00paul rifle gave australia an undeniable chance of winning the frank moral trophy of course he took
01:07:04three wickets right at the end including the two superstars richardson and lara well the next day was
01:07:10a rest day and there was plenty of rain about and that caused some apprehension among the australian
01:07:14players and the coach bob simpson who in fact ordered some extra security for the covers because of
01:07:18course we had that bizarre situation in antigua during the second test match well fortunately
01:07:23the australian players woke up on the fourth morning and the sun was shining but the pitch
01:07:27was going to play an important part as to whether the west indies were able to bat out a day or in
01:07:30fact just give the australians some sort of total to chase let's go to the middle now for michael
01:07:35holding's pitch report now this piece has deteriorated quite a lot i'm not accustomed to seeing the
01:07:40sabina park pitch looking as bad as this the footholds on both sides of the wicket are looking quite bad
01:07:46outside the leg stump outside the off stump for the right and the both of them are looking very
01:07:50very rough indeed but that's not the only problem right here in front of me where i'm standing there
01:07:55are a few holes in the pitch which are in line with the stumps these certainly will come into play quite
01:08:01a lot and as you can see actually there are pieces of leather that have chipped off of the ball
01:08:06in these cracks because the hardness of the wicket i think batting on this pitch today is going to be very
01:08:10very very difficult
01:08:30the australian feeling as usual high class very good stop this by great blue
01:08:35great blue
01:08:44well we started feeling as usual up to its high standard steve war
01:08:51keeping the pressure on australia in a commanding position but they have not slacked at all
01:08:56continuing to concentrate continuing to put pressure on the west indian players
01:09:06gone brilliantly caught
01:09:09steven war
01:09:11pulling to his right a wonderful catch in the gully ever alert
01:09:15and this man really is just having the match of a lifetime
01:09:21he picked into one mike he has changed the whole course of the match and also the series
01:09:27athletic skills sure try to glide it through the vacant area and slips but
01:09:32don't worry whether that bounce or not that's right into the mids and now the west indies are four for
01:09:38that one very well indeed
01:09:50it's four
01:09:53well shane wall won't mind benjamin doing this a few times hopefully one will really bounce
01:09:59to shane and he'll take the top bench but it's his only answer is the sweep
01:10:03and he rolled it he got one in the middle for a change
01:10:07and it's gone for fourth
01:10:12which is 50. wait it beautifully lovely way to bring up your 15. signals the room
01:10:26that's brought the crowds alive tonight watchman who can go on and get 50.
01:10:30he's got a test best of 85 against new zealand
01:10:35once got 100 against uh touring australian side for leicestershire
01:10:42come at the moment come of the man and this has been a very very good effort by winston benjamin
01:10:56confident appeal he's given him doctor has given him and benjamin is out
01:11:07interesting to see this one in replay
01:11:12benjamin
01:11:15ball swinging in the big thing is whether or not would have hit the stumps
01:11:22and if i think it might have hit leg stump
01:11:25it might have but here are the breaks
01:11:28and he's played fabulously well for a very good 51 and now the west indies are five for 134.
01:11:40it's the hurry
01:11:46called for it carl liebenberg's called for it the australians think he's out
01:11:50taylor's run to julian bear confident carl liebenberg has called
01:11:56for the third umpire to make the assessment in front of his monitor
01:12:08well the australians think he's out julian bent down that letters and picks him up throws it off the
01:12:14wrong foot
01:12:18hits a stump and he's not really into the picture at all
01:12:22clean hit in heel he had to do
01:12:26and he's gone run out
01:12:28and now that it puts unbelievable more pressure on this man here keith ufferman but hooper has run out
01:12:37fantastic work from the australians who worked very hard in the field throwing the ball at the stumps
01:12:46bob simpson would be very happy
01:12:48finally something's coming off in the field brennan julie running flat out one hand
01:12:53on the wrong foot throws it in one bounce and hits the stumps
01:12:59and carl liebenberg after the umpire the third umpire and he's given out carl over run out for 13
01:13:04six for 140. well that's uh a stand-up home run at yankee stadium
01:13:17and this uh the picture would man it waist high just outside the plate this is a full toss
01:13:26we haven't seen too many of those from shane one but that was very powerfully hit indeed
01:13:34a pretty long way to that boundary at long on
01:13:42a big appeal again and he's given him
01:13:46and his turn hit the back leg and it came down to them probably feels himself a little bit unlucky
01:13:57the australians are very very happy indeed that's the last of the recognized batsmen for the west indies
01:14:05not too happy himself keith artathon but this ball pitched way out in the rough and spawn a long way
01:14:11back it was heading towards the stumps but i'm not too sure it would it would have reached the offstop
01:14:17but seven for one 66
01:14:24in the air for a long way but uh lovely timing from ambrose
01:14:35and he just stood his ground and waited for that one to spin back in towards him
01:14:40and he did powerfully through the offside as i said when he was coming to the crease
01:14:45kurt ambrose certainly has the ability to stand up and back and make a few runs
01:14:50just certainly hasn't shown the application to do it in the series before today
01:14:55and there we go
01:15:25again chipping down the wicket driving unnecessarily eight to one 72 of the west indies
01:15:33well the australian singing warny
01:15:36well that's a superb stroke by courtney walsh steveball special
01:15:59that's a crackerjack shot this
01:16:11the back foot
01:16:16that could have been a little bit of rowan can i in that shot
01:16:21the coach has finally got something through
01:16:34and 55 of course a pretty good year for australia
01:16:45that's a magnificent year tony
01:16:48great vintage and uh
01:16:50glenn mcgris getting the late uh shorts short ones in there to his nemesis courtney walsh
01:17:02courtney walsh a great favorite here in jamaica of course and they love him
01:17:18another good short one from glenn mcgris who hasn't
01:17:25taken a backward step during this series and courtney walsh
01:17:33not too sure what do you call that tony
01:17:37quite happy with the way he played it obviously
01:17:38well that must have been close but as far as umpire livenberg is concerned not close enough
01:17:52and i suppose he's enjoying courtney walsh as well
01:17:58gone he's put it down
01:18:02unbelievable ian healy has now put down two of the easiest catches you could want
01:18:07pick outside edge into his gloves you have to catch it
01:18:14i don't know what to say tony that it's quite amazing appears to be a regulation chance maybe
01:18:20put up to him a lot quicker than he expected
01:18:24for the second time today and
01:18:28regulation catch was grasped it's uh something we haven't seen
01:18:31two or three years for man here he's been outstanding behind the stumps
01:18:38that's a superb on drive using his feet and coming down
01:18:42playing it perfectly courtney brown and getting four for it
01:18:44see that shot again using his feet catching the ball on the rise with the leg spin
01:19:00right in the meat of the bat four runs
01:19:02how they must be feeling there now particularly bob simpson of course who was
01:19:10here as a captain in 64 65 when the australians lost 2-1 and again in 77 78 at such a troubled time
01:19:17lost 3-1
01:19:22got that on the full and he's got it away for four
01:19:24still something for them to cheer about and the children signal mimicking a more senior jamaican in
01:19:39steve buckner
01:19:39who said she can't use your feet to shang warne down the wicket a little bit in the air
01:19:48gave it the treatment high and wide over steve walk for four more it's good to see him still playing shots
01:19:56it's in the air blew it's under it and he has taken it
01:20:00for the wicket to shang warne courtney walsh tied the big one over the top and hit it straight to
01:20:14point and for the people at home the doubting thomas is about sunglasses this is one of the
01:20:20reason why get a fly ball and see the ball great camera work there
01:20:24and of course he's looking straight into the sun there and he's just checking the glasses there
01:20:31but courtney walsh just caught good 12 14 and the western is a 9 for 204.
01:20:43and so warn strikes again
01:20:48and courtney walsh she was so solid
01:20:54and the last west indian batsman there's courtney walsh now just waves to the crowd
01:21:01who have given him such support his home crowd
01:21:05and how heavy will his heart be this moment
01:21:10so the australians now just one wicket away from a historic achievement kenny benjamin joins
01:21:18courtney brown on 30
01:21:24taylor
01:21:31indicating
01:21:33through michael slater for the security men
01:21:37to reposition themselves
01:21:38shang warne doing the damage again his best figures for the tour believe it or not
01:21:54and this is one of the reasons why
01:21:56he has his best courtney big slog trying to hit over mid off just left a bit too much on the back
01:22:05foot hit a fly ball to to blew it with the sunglasses on someone's right in his eyes it wasn't an easy
01:22:11catch no doubt the ball would have been spinning a lot before he got underneath it
01:22:15i tell you mike sometimes you have your heart in your mouth when those are coming down too but
01:22:20everyone's expecting you to catch it
01:22:21it's got back one away effortlessly out in front of the kingston cricket club
01:22:28before
01:22:28this is a great shot by ken benjamin the drop kick just against the spin
01:22:40up and over the mid wicket boundary
01:22:43with the team camaraderie and the team spirit between the two of them
01:22:46brian lara of course and justin langer which is great sight to see this is the way cricket should
01:22:52be played very good winners the west indies have been but also very good losers
01:23:01and he's gone and that's it and it's been caught by taylor how appropriate is that
01:23:07warn everybody gathering to hug taylor and warn simpson what a moment australians running on to the ground
01:23:24allen border there so proud he must feel he built the side and now taylor
01:23:32uh has engineered this great win great scenes of emotion
01:23:44um ladies and gentlemen i'm not sure how many people out there can hear me
01:23:47but um today i have to be the most proudest man in world cricket it's been far too long since
01:23:53australia have had their hands on this trophy i feel very honored that i'm the captain of a side
01:23:58that has finally won this back after some 20 years to my players who can't hear me but to my players
01:24:04have been an outstanding job an outstanding job they've been a great side we've had a few setbacks
01:24:11we've put together a great cricket team and fought back and won a great trophy to the west indians to
01:24:16richie richardson once again they're a fantastic opposition they've been without a doubt the best
01:24:21team over the last 10 to 20 years finally we've finally beaten them after many many moons to them
01:24:28thank you for the competition i've enjoyed the series immensely as have all our players
01:24:32been a great opposition a great side and i'm sure you'll do do more than yourself justice in england
01:24:37this year the supporters behind me they've been outstanding the faxes from home all the people
01:24:44who sent faxes messages to all the guys we thank you very much for all your support this is for all
01:24:51of you this is for all of you um to coca-cola our major sponsor thank you again without you this is
01:24:57impossible and once again thank you i'm a very proud man and a very proud australian thank you
01:25:10well what a moment and the scenes of excitement the jubilation a very very proud day in the life of
01:25:15australian cricket more importantly in the life of mark taylor and course only seven months into his
01:25:20reign as australian captain and how proud he must be and how proud he must be of his men well it was
01:25:25going to take a very brave man indeed to get into the australian rooms uh david hooks was just that
01:25:29brave man and here he is with brendan julian congratulations so just two and a half months ago
01:25:35you were in melbourne ready to play a shield game yeah dead right i was two and a half months ago
01:25:39playing shield game but it's uh it's been a great win here today and i think it's just the best time
01:25:44of my life to to win over here i know it means a lot more to like simo and babsy and players like
01:25:49that have been there a few times but for a guy that's been for the first time it's just been magnificent
01:25:54and you must be pleased just the way you play cricket the four tests you played uh you struggled a
01:25:57bit in guiana when you had a bit of jet lag in the one day but after that it's just all fell in place
01:26:01yeah yeah i was pretty happy with the way it's come i mean i think i think we all sort of 100
01:26:05impacts the way that we bowled and to bowl about under sort of 260 all the time was just a bonus i
01:26:09mean i think we all chipped in and did the things that uh got us the wickets brennan enjoy the night
01:26:14thanks man the man of the series steve congratulations fantastic series you made the point at the start of
01:26:19the series you wanted to make this your series you only played two tests here in 1991 and suddenly you
01:26:24must be very proud of yourself yeah it's been a great series i couldn't have dreamed that it would have
01:26:27gone any better you know personally and for the team we've played shown a lot of courage and
01:26:31commitment during the series and it's uh it's been a great victory you know the best i've ever been
01:26:34involved with steve everything seems to have gone well i spoke to you earlier in the tour you felt
01:26:38that you were hitting the ball well you were scoring at a good rate which is your trademark and
01:26:41you're able to maintain that i it's going to sound silly you made 200 here but i thought your
01:26:45first days in trinidad was something special yeah it's probably the best things i played on the tour but
01:26:49you know i've been hitting the ball pretty well but i had a little bit of luck along the way i had a couple
01:26:52of drop catches went my way and fortunately i cashed in and made the most of them so yeah i'm
01:26:57pleased with the way of placement well steve we have to let you go because uh carl reckon is driving
01:27:00your car around the savannah park what do you think i think it's in safe hands mate yeah all right good
01:27:06luck enjoy the night then let's go to paul rifle whom i believe had a wonderful series perhaps wasn't
01:27:10rewarded with wickets until late on the third night but he's got the frank warhol trophy paul congratulations
01:27:16thank you very much mate what about this morning uh hill's told me the lesser keeper wouldn't have got to
01:27:20that second delivery mate i bamboozling by the first one i did a bit but oh no well the man of the
01:27:27series entitled to do that uh what about your bowling this series and particularly this game you got the
01:27:31rewards this game did you bowl any better uh probably not uh it's just the way it goes but obviously you
01:27:37got to keep going and uh i've done that i've probably done that all season and uh you know this is the
01:27:43reward well they deserve this
01:27:54an unforgettable moment a moment frozen in time a discipline single-minded and focused australian
01:28:00team which carried all before them david it really was a joy to be a part of that yes it was mike
01:28:04always a joy to be part of history particularly when australia is involved the australian players
01:28:09played sensationally they were wonderfully led by mark taylor and the series was billed as the
01:28:13heavyweight championship of the world mark taylor believes that australia has dethroned the west
01:28:18east indies well let's close now with a tribute to australia's new heroes
01:28:48um
01:29:02you
