00:00:00so first ball of the second test match and bond bowling to Taranga well that's
00:00:13a beauty and a little bit of swing too from the pace bowler away from the
00:00:17left-hander big appeal just the impression was it hit him outside the
00:00:27line but certainly clearing the throats early on well that's always the
00:00:35impression with Chris Martin is pitching outside the line it's a marginal thing and
00:00:40I also whether actually was going to go on at the stumps the thing about Chris
00:00:43Martin is that he's always taking it away from the left-hander of course he's
00:00:46always the exception to the rule but predominantly the ball is going to miss
00:00:51the off stump now it pitched outside and it probably missed off good decision
00:01:00and he's gone an early wicket Fleming takes the catch at first slip and Martin
00:01:06strikes early
00:01:12superb bowling really good early on to bring the batsman forward and you can see
00:01:18that the bat is open it is it is angled towards the slips I mean it is such a
00:01:23basic error by Jai Saria comfortable catch to Fleming and that is an excellent
00:01:29start for Chris Martin Jai Saria naught it's naught for one
00:01:36he's got this very fine and that will be a boundary got it away with a little bit of difficulty
00:01:43but nevertheless kept over the top of
00:01:45it so the first boundary of the test match registered
00:01:49oh absolute beauty and Sangakara is a batsman in form remember
00:01:55and he was done like a dinner that's a good shot that'll go to the boundary
00:02:02pretty quick outfield and the best shot of the morning so far
00:02:13clear example of if you bowl a loose ball it's short and a bit wide then this
00:02:17pitch is going to provide you pace and bounce and you can just lean on the ball
00:02:21and put it into the gap and pick up good runs good stroke from Taranga in the air
00:02:29and over the top is it let's watch the umpire yes it is he got plenty on that good
00:02:37stroke by Sangakara he took on Shane Bond and he needed to get plenty on it
00:02:43because Bond is positioned right on the ropes you know I think for a minute Nisbo
00:02:50he might have just been a bit worried it did go up a little bit quickly for his
00:02:54liking he tends to hit the ball down these two men out that's gone through it was a
00:03:05victory of sorts for the bowler it wasn't convincing shot but he's picked up
00:03:10four runs what are the ironies of cricket I guess
00:03:18there's a little nick there it's a beauty and Taranga's going to go
00:03:21he walked he walked and I'm not sure where the Brian
00:03:26Dierling was going to give him certainly he left before the finger went up so
00:03:30that's good news for him but bad news for his team 27 for 2
00:03:35yes well Chris Martin he was appealing appealing pleading with Brian Dierling
00:03:40please give it out he thought he'd had it he knew he'd hit it those behind the
00:03:44stumps Brendan McCullum and the slips they certainly knew Martin was pleading
00:03:49with Brian Dierling and Taranga walked off he's now gone another wicket for Chris
00:03:54Martin superb bowling this morning for him gone for seven to runger and it's 27 for
00:03:59two that's magnificent see he had so much time there
00:04:12terrific all the way along the ground and Jacob Orem will haul that in because he is
00:04:17an athlete they'll get to so good cricket all round it's been sparkling stuff
00:04:22brilliant throw gee that's as good as good as out cricket as you'll get and it
00:04:26wasn't a bad shot either well just some superb cricket slightly short pulled
00:04:32away Jacob Orem does very well he's a big man but he is an athlete superb fielder
00:04:37there it is taps it inside and then here we go check this out not too high off the

00:04:56he's a top-class player who was undone by Chris Martin again and what a morning what a morning

00:07:12this has been a really outstanding batting by one of the game's top players

00:07:31out caught and they've got it very very similar dismissal capoguera
00:07:36to that in the second innings in christchurch playing well away from the body
00:07:41and a catch to third slip he was caught in the gully down there he's got a third slip now

00:07:47this is a good ball here from aurum because the initial angle was angled in towards the right
00:07:51hander drew the hands into playing look at that straighten off the pitch
00:07:56capoguera did wrong there was to follow it with the hands and just help it into the slips

00:08:05big wicket for new zealand there in amongst them again capoguera out for five it's 81 for four
00:08:13in the air and just over mid off good bowling from bond it was the slower ball
00:08:18it deceived sangakara but guess what four more
00:08:23oh that could have gone into the gully but it's a way to the fence instead
00:08:28and uh believe me the slips cordon were interested there
00:08:39not out it's a good shout a very good one for uh daniel vittori to just uh loosen off the

00:08:56oh he's hit that much better that's a beautiful cricket shot

00:12:06silver got close to him a couple of balls earlier there's not much you can do there

00:12:14close all these mount all you can do is really turn and perhaps hope for a rebound catch back to

00:12:37and sangakara again plays nicely through the covers and that's gone for four as well
00:12:42and a 150 is registered lovely shot again by sangakara as he moves into the 90s
00:12:50and is threatening to get a second consecutive century too short
00:12:55and he was able to stand tall and just punch it to the boundary for four
00:13:08tight one this if it hits oh he was gone sangakara had given up the ghost

00:14:08well it caught him a bit by surprise too tony i think i'm not sure he realized he was on

00:14:53so he's got it through so a half century for chamara silva played very well played with increasing
00:15:01confidence very nervous when he came out as he would expect looking to get off the mark and there
00:15:07is uh teammates all saluting him
00:15:15well lucky between second strip and gutty
00:15:22goes for four but didn't play it all that well sangakara has a word with him
00:15:27a little more bounce i think and he's expected here silver
00:15:31in the end i think the only thing he probably did do well was he got into the gap
00:15:35he certainly didn't mean to hit the ball in the air
00:15:38he probably shouldn't have even been playing at it at all but he did in the end at least fend
00:15:43it through the gap it's a little more bounce than he expected certainly
00:15:51and he could be called just uh beyond the feeler now that uh was in the air a long time
00:15:57and in the end
00:15:58knowing there's a man out there for a moment uh that was a very dangerous
00:16:06and scary time for sangakara he decided deliberately to get under the ball but uh a man out on the
00:16:14point
00:16:15boundary for that kind of stroke and you've got to ask yourself well maybe he was in too far

00:16:26healthy years to second to first slip stephen fleming
00:16:30silver's finally gone just once too often outside the off-start played away from himself
00:16:36and offered up a catch stephen fleming does not put them down that is a badly needed wicket for new
00:16:42zealand
00:16:45well it's just dangled across but the length was good it had silver just groping away from the body
00:16:51comfortably through to fleming so franklin finally comes up with a delivery that brings some reward
00:16:58and confidence is silver in his second test match picks up a very good 61. it's 202 for five
00:17:13well played to get off the mark easy really easy runs for the new batsman
00:17:23edged and put down oh dear now then mccullum did he poach it from fleming did it carry we weren't
00:17:33quite sure the end result super slimo will show us oh dear that is a big miss that is a
00:17:43big miss
00:17:44he's almost gone too far it's got right up and hit high on his glove almost towards the wrist
00:17:53and this one's got more on it and it's got enough on it to go to the boundary
00:18:00oh nice shot that's a bit dangerous but uh he's well forward but you don't want to try that too
00:18:07often no what simon telful has to weigh up here is was the ball swinging back in to hit the

00:18:13the angle previously was taking it across and the doubt favors the batsman there and so it should
00:18:19it another meter to travel oh he's got an inside edge and mccullum's done well to stop that
00:18:31fair old gap between the bat and the pad here and the inside edge good job by the keeper it

00:18:37job it did not carry it was about a meter short
00:18:43edge edge and this one's gone through fleming's after it it may well get to the boundary not quite
00:18:52and they'll get a couple and we'll just have to check the replay and see whether that carried
00:18:57well my gut reaction is with shane bond that carried i'm looking at the bowler
00:19:03a gut reaction is mccullum got a glove to this or didn't one of the two

00:19:17and excellent contact over the top it goes and we've seen a few sixes today and there's another one

00:21:51now is that out it is fended at it just pushed at it a thin edge umpire jerling really didn't
00:21:58have much
00:21:59pressure difficulty in making it into the gloves of mccullum and sri lanka just uh declining here
00:22:05251 for eight three wickets falling in quick succession beautiful spin bowling lovely flight
00:22:12and he's taken the pace off the ball and because of that the batsman groping just opening the blade
00:22:18and good catch by mccullum wonderful bowling

00:22:48well he managed to get the tips of the fingers to it that would have been very brilliant had he

00:23:06well if it was fleming you might have seen him take it a lot more comfortably that but one hand
00:23:13and it just uh it's just got a stick but this time it didn't it's a good effort

00:23:43came quickly good reflex catch but he stayed down that's the the key to it
00:23:51didn't come up and then had to go down he stayed down malinga goes without scoring 259 for nine
00:24:01that's a firm shot down the ground it goes for 40 really clobbered that

00:24:23another boundary another fine shot bond short this time

00:24:42and new new zealand have dismissed sri-lanka for 268 and will feel that they've done a really good
00:24:49job here in good batting conditions lovely seeing light
00:24:55and kumar sangakara finishes not out 156 out of 268 all out
00:25:04well another duck the fifth of the innings for sri-lanka
00:25:08they've lost their last five wickets for just 29 runs
00:25:13as uh new zealand wrapped us up in emphatic fashion it's been a superb performance by them and
00:25:18overall 268 to bowl a side out after winning the toss
00:25:23and we're deciding the bats and murley goes for naught but all the applauded
00:25:27for this man sang with a swing and coming off the mark straight away
00:25:36oh that's time so well that has rarely hit the stumps very suddenly and still gone away for four
00:25:48and this one will go away for four
00:25:54that's a very good blow in position very very early
00:25:58and put it away
00:26:05well maharouf has made the breakthrough
00:26:08so it's come from nowhere but that's the wicket that they wanted seemed to have everything covered

00:26:30you've got to cover that kind of delivery and craig coming was beaten neck and croffland can't quite

00:26:46that is a very good shot a very confident
00:26:51drive jamie howe looking better and better as he goes on
00:26:59well he's gone for it the two men back there waiting for that shot top edge goes for six
00:27:13yes he's got him well what a contest tremendous contest in that over jamie howe goes leg before
00:27:21now that's the third time he's gone like before in the series
00:27:24a four a hook for six off the top edge and now leg before
00:27:30well i'm not sure there's too much doubt about this one it's just beaten him for pace
00:27:34his feet had been moving really well throughout this innings but they got stuck on the crease line
00:27:39again and that in the skittiest terms from malinga is going on to hit plum

00:27:52well that's got an edge that's the end of fleming caught behind and the prize wicket of the
00:28:00new zealand skipper trying to avoid it and he's caught behind
00:28:04yes he couldn't get out of the way of it stephen fleming
00:28:08hung the bet there a little bit tried to pull away
00:28:11couldn't get the bat out of the way another good delivery from lasif malinga didn't want to play it
00:28:17didn't want to play it stephen fleming ramped it off the outside top edge gone good catch
00:28:24jay warden up stephen fleming new zealand skipper he's on his way he's out for naught it's 40 for three
00:28:36astil's gone hard at this one and he's made a pretty good connection as well and that's four runs
00:28:54good shot well controlled and away for four astil's come out positive
00:29:13oh we've just been treated to some great fast bowling from lasif malinga in the last half hour
00:29:18look at that a little bit of tail on it astil struggling to pick it up he just didn't move
00:29:23at all and just an involuntary jab at the ball and it was too late
00:29:30they've got their wicket on the last over astil out for 17 66 for four and he's annoyed
00:29:39gone through
00:29:43difficult one as uh is his want brendan mccullum rent very very hard at it and to the right
00:29:51of i think it's silver in that position
00:30:00that's a good appeal he's right across his stump sir mccullum
00:30:10and that uh being hit on the inside of the ankle i think at uh just about
00:30:19close to 90 miles an hour is gonna hurt and he got late swing didn't he and that's what saved

00:30:38he's faced a bombardment of short balls and now the yorker
00:30:48he had to expect it he saw it from uh mccullum and mccullum's had been covering the stumps but sinclair

00:31:02two balls to go to mccullum and he got it bang on that is brilliant bowling
00:31:07quite outstanding from malinga and so sinclair does not add to his overnight score he's gone for six

00:31:19fine shot really fine shot that will go all the way it'll be four deserves four
00:31:28but he's struggling with the foot he really is that back heel is causing all sorts of problems
00:31:37oh my god that is unbelievable that is at the base of leg stump that is unplayable simply and utterly

00:31:47well he's batting at seven so it won't affect the average of him batting at eight
00:31:51that's the good news the bad news is the vittori's just received the ball of the summer

00:32:01well we've seen fastballing here yesterday afternoon and this morning comparable with any
00:32:06you will see there is not a fastball in the world who can do it better than this
00:32:12do it as well as perhaps on his good day but this has been outstanding

00:33:18that's uh that's done him it's the dusra once more they just can't pick it they can't see malinga

00:33:32this one looks far better it certainly looks like a goodie murley with the dusra it's pitching on and
00:33:40hitting that is out no two ways about it james franklin's gone back brian jerling another one for

00:33:56now that's uh i think a bit of helmet maybe a bit of glove a bit of everything
00:34:05yes the first impressions were glove and then helmet smithy look at it here yes

00:34:29guys well is that to come off well appealing for everything here lbw and not happy they think the

00:35:45now did the keeper get a glove on it when the batsman slashing like this it always goes very quickly

00:35:54uh cjo warden not even moving there it's uh white pep's gone a little bit back because he

00:36:05he's got him he didn't play a shot at it and uh that's undone him because i think it hit
00:36:13him outside
00:36:13the line but he made no real effort to play a shot at it yeah if shane bond had decided
00:36:19to play this it
00:36:19was all too late thrusting the pad out outside the line of off stump spinning back could actually hit
00:36:28him in line i think that's a good decision there no real intent to hit the ball bond's gone

00:36:49great effort sri lanka knew what was happening as well and so they've had to go upstairs
00:36:54tried to run a bye they had virtually a leg slip in there he got the transfer pass

00:37:07it's brilliant teamwork by shilanka they knew they were onto it they knew the ball had to go to a

00:37:50and he hasn't achieved that it's uh chuminder vast down there so this is poor cricket by the veteran
00:37:57left armor you can see they're not going to take a single so all he's got to do is stop
