00:01bachelor party recap 735 fair or foul a question john you're at the spring game this weekend i was
00:10uh and it was uh the uh uh the football gods did not rain on it um as it rained
00:17in the morning
00:18it rained a little bit later so it was a nice little reprieve in the middle of the day two
00:22o'clock and it was it's kind of a mixed bag so the rules were in the first quarter it
00:28was going
00:29to be thought so you weren't taking running backs wide receivers anybody to the ground um and that's
00:34when bryce played and second quarter and on it was full-on script started to play real football
00:41bryce was i believe three of nine for 22 yards yikes still a lot to work on there no question
00:50and the coaches have made it very clear he's qb1 qb2 i don't think there's any question who qb2 is
00:58because tommy carr throughout all of spring ball and in the game i think he was six of eight in
01:05the
01:05second quarter took both teams on some drives was doing a really nice job of escaping the pocket i
01:13think he had 47 rush yards now of course you're not hitting the quarterback either uh at no no no
01:18time
01:18during the game um but layered some passes i mean right over top of run of linebackers in front of
01:26the safety put the ball was accurate made good decisions didn't put the ball at risk so i a nice
01:33nice little job there by tommy carr excited about that um and then offensive line which is where i
01:41that's your deal to look at uh played okay good pad level good combos um you know they were
01:50protection was good but i think that the the standout position all day long until you got to
01:57the end of the game and there was a two minute drill and they didn't put any pressure on but
02:01the defensive rules were you had to play two high safeties and so you're kind of at a disadvantage
02:07no blitzes the defensive line played extremely well and everyone's going to be looking at the
02:12defensive front going okay well who are the guys nate marshall played really well um applying
02:18pressure on quarterbacks nate marshall cam brant probably your two edges uh defensive tackles
02:23new dc jay hill has said hey we we think we've got two elite guys um on the defensive line
02:31no etta
02:31one of them um has played extremely well uh trey pierce uh being the other one so a lot of
02:38excitement
02:38there but i keep going to what were the areas that needed major improvement one is quarterback play
02:47and didn't see the i don't think anybody saw the the jumps that you wanted to see i'm not going
02:52to
02:52sit here and say it's a finished product this is what you're going to see in the fall still a
02:56lot
02:56of time to to work on that but um the the position group that needed in influx of talent through
03:04the
03:04transfer portal through freshmen however you wanted to do it was a wide receiver position
03:08andrew marsh i think he's a known quantity they're going to have a really good sophomore season
03:13uh but jj buchanan uh transfer from utah he is an absolute weapon saw it a little bit on saturday
03:24but i've seen the much more in practice jamie french the transfer from texas i think so you're
03:29going to have three guys out there jamar browder is a guy that we keep i kept talking about last
03:34year
03:34had a touchdown pass in his hands i mean he had the defensive back beat and then dropped it but
03:41then made another catch across the middle that was doug and i both thought was was incomplete but he
03:46came up with it so you saw some so i think there's going to be a better receiver room than
03:51we've seen
03:52at michigan for a long time now it's just going to be can the quarterback get it done again you
03:56remove
03:56the excuses you set your quarterback up for success bryce underwood seven picks the last five games to
04:02close the year did not finish on a high note new staff he's got to rev it up well he's
04:07got to rev it
04:07up but he's got to he's got to really zero in and hone on the technique the footwork his his
04:15arm
04:16position all of those different things because we know he's got a strong arm like he could chuck it
04:19downfield he could throw a 90 mile an hour fastball but it's it's the technique that prevents some of
04:27those interceptions it's the technique that will allow you to be a successful quarterback what date do
04:31we get that first phone call i was just gonna bring it up the seeds have been planted family name
04:36but you can't bench bryce because of the money oh it's ripe for radio last time michigan had a
04:41quarterback named tom oh come on yeah come on john i'm messing i know i know it's out but but
04:48it's
04:48it will be interesting to see because we talk about you know hey you know athletic directors holding on
04:55to coaches and you know wisconsin hey uh their court their their their athletic director moves on
05:00what's going to happen to their coach he's he's kind of in a lame duck situation bryce wasn't the
05:06the the recruiting this isn't the coaching staff that recruited bryce so i don't think there's going
05:12to be politics aren't going to play as much a part of this as maybe some think september 14th the
05:18first monday after the oklahoma game that's when we'll get the call you write it down uh who was the
05:22best in the dizzy bats or is that only what msu did i have i know that there was a
05:27lot of pushback
05:28on pat fitzgerald having that be a part of things this is a game it's played by kids even in
05:35the nfl
05:36level it's played by people that have the mental capacity for kids i'm a great example of that have
05:42a little fun right it's okay i thought so too i was just making a joke let's get to heather
