Stockton is marking two hundred years since the accidental discovery of the friction match by local inventor John Walker. A programme of events will run over the coming months, with further celebrations planned for twenty twenty seven.

00:22Stockton Council says events will run for two years celebrating his legacy.
00:27Activities include museum walks, science demonstrations, workshops and writing sessions.
00:33Celebrations begin by marking his 245th birthday on the 29th of May.
00:39The programme builds towards larger celebrations planned for 2027.
