00:00Welcome back to From the South.
00:02We continue in Cuba, where in Havana, the Patriot Colloquium wrapped its latest edition,
00:06with a focus on long-term cooperation and communication strategies, as participants
00:10and leaders highlight its growing role in shaping a shared voice across the global south.
00:16Melinda Los Santos with the story.
00:19It's the final day of the Patriot Colloquium, a moment for conclusions and also to look
00:24ahead.
00:24Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who closely followed the three-day event, underscored
00:29the importance of the exchange in today's global context.
00:35I believe the Patriot Colloquium has been an event that has consolidated itself as a space
00:41for communication debate from a leftist perspective, with a humanistic approach, very consistent
00:48with the communication challenges we face in today's complex world.
00:55Patria is all about new strategies of cooperation and this year came with a major step forward,
01:00the integration of the Patria House, a place to continue worship throughout the year.
01:06That place will be the base of an effort that will turn Patria into something permanent.
01:13It is the headquarters of the great articulation that is Patria.
01:18This edition of Patria also paid tribute to Fidel Castro, highlighting his legacy as a present-day
01:24guide to face current challenges.
01:27Dignity, resistance, creativity, never thinking that we are defeated.
01:34Fidel showed us the path.
01:36Fidel stood with each of our countries when we needed it.
01:39When we needed his support, Cuba was there.
01:42Fidel was there with us, with the people.
01:45I think Fidel was a constant rebel who broke the rules, who never listened to what his contemporaries
01:53told him to do or not to do.
01:55He listened to his gut and to the people of Cuba.
01:58So that's kind of what we have to do now.
02:01As the colloquium closes, participants emphasized the need to carry these ideas forward,
02:06to continue thinking together and building a common communication front.
02:11I believe this is a space to come together, to engage in dialogue, just as Fidel taught us.
02:17I believe this is the space where all the brothers and sisters of the Americas
02:20can finally meet face to face and build a greater patriot.
