00:05Welcome to mojo plays and outside of sailing the high seas or emulation the only way you'll
00:13be able to play any of these classic ps1 games is to find a working PlayStation 1 and a copy
00:19of the game good luck to your bank account daredevil I haven't got time to explain just
00:24tell me your side of it I'll know if you're lying how am I supposed to know you're the real
00:27daredevil
00:28what before we continue be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified
00:33about our latest videos vibribbon vibribbon is a title that defined the experimental nature of the
00:50ps1 with purely monochromatic and basic graphics players guide vibri through rhythm-based vector
00:57lines drawn on the screen with numerous obstacles the player needs to navigate to complete the level
01:01what made vibribbon even more unique besides its art style was the ability for players to create
01:07their own custom levels by inserting their own audio cds and the game would automatically generate
01:12a level based on the track selected the sheer inventiveness of the gameplay system and graphics
01:18have made vibribbon one of the most refreshingly original and creative games on the ps1 that will
01:23likely never see a release outside of the ps1 hardware due to many of the game's mechanics
01:28being tied directly to the PlayStation disk drive thousand arms it's always like this at least there are
01:45fewer women than usual few RPGs were as ambitious on the ps1 as thousand arms not only was it a
01:53tradition
01:53turn-based JRPG but it was also a deeply narrative focused dating sim which can directly affect your
01:59combat prowess as well as how strong the weapons you would be able to create in the final piece of
02:04the game weapon forging the better and more affectionate you were with your female companions
02:09the stronger your weapons and attacks forcing you to focus primarily on the dating sim mechanics of the
02:15game to be more successful in literally every other aspect of the adventure while later JRPGs would
02:21incorporate romance options into their games no other game has dedicated so much of the core RPG
02:27experience to romancing your companions the way thousand arms did sadly without a ps1 you'll be
02:33unable to experience one of the most unique rpgs and its wonderful characters on the system
02:39i don't know what you have in mind but your sweet talk doesn't convince me
02:45alundra 2 few games have gone through such a dramatic tonal shift within the same generation as between
02:50alundra and alundra 2 while the original was your typical zelda like alundra 2 not only went fully
02:573d but completely reinvented its gameplay and style and overall tone although the sequel went through
03:03several changes the core gameplay loop of platforming combat and puzzle solving was still as solid and
03:08challenging as ever and alundra's more light-hearted storyline balanced the lighter moments with the
03:13original game's darker ones much better than its predecessor although both were well received by both
03:20the series never really hit the mainstream audience it needed but if lunar silver star story and its
03:26sequel can get remasters anything is possible legend of lagaya
03:37gameplay first was typically the style most games of the ps1 were designed around and legend of lagaya
03:43follows this mantra to the letter story is merely there to ferry players from one area to the next while
03:50the
03:50main draw of the game is the incredibly inventive even by today's standards combat system players can
03:55almost completely customize their fighting style chaining powerful attacks together with simple
04:00button presses the game is surprisingly linear for ps1 jrpg but when most of the focus is on the game's
04:07combat you're unlikely to care or notice outside of the big story moments as you aggressively beat down
04:13your foes using your own customized attack patterns due to the sheer number of rpgs released on the ps1
04:19naturally many have been all but lost to time and without a working ps1 and disc legend of lagaya
04:26is another of these forgotten gems
04:37c12 final resistance
04:45released a whole two years into the ps2's life cycle c12 final resistance was already facing heavy
04:52resistance from the high fidelity experiences most players were experiencing on the ps2 and
04:58obviously got overlooked for every other major release in 2002 that's not to say the game was
05:04bad i mean it wasn't great but it was still a fun throwback to the late ps1 days when devs
05:09were
05:09finally figuring out 3d movement the environments were nicely detailed combining elements of typical sci-fi
05:16with hr giger style architecture and the shooting mechanics were solid enough to keep you alive
05:21c12 final resistance might not have been the swan song the ps1 deserved but the game still offers a
05:27fun playthrough that no one without a copy and ps1 will get to experience as the entire game has
05:32basically been memory hold by everyone even sony themselves our work is still unfinished the time to
05:39hang around then let's get the hell out of here koudelka if you come any later no doubt i'd be
05:44singing
05:45hymns in his stomach right shouldn't have bought such a good horse she's too too bad you won't be
05:50hearing me sing those hymns when i was a boy i was a pretty good soprano the success of resident
05:56evil
05:56cannot be understated and soon clever developers were using the survival horror series as the basis to
06:02combine elements of the classic re games with other genres which is how we ended up with hidden gems like
06:09koudelka combining elements of resident evil exploration and puzzle solving with existential
06:14lovecraftian horror and turn-based combat works shockingly well the traditional turn-based battles
06:20of koudelka would later influence the shadow heart series and exploring the increasingly horrific castle
06:25is just as chilling if not more so than navigating the spencer mansion the turn-based battle system might
06:31be a bit slower than others in the genre and the weapon durability mechanic will always split the
06:36player base but for those who stick it out will find a thoroughly entertaining and haunting re-inspired
06:42title that can sadly only be played on its home console hey how's that just a lamp you will make
06:48you just a
06:49lamp you are crazy
06:56nascar rumble
07:03taking the traditional sim racing genre of nascar and instead applying arcade style racing with mario
07:10kart-esque power-ups never should have worked as well as it did in nascar rumble let alone been this
07:16much fun taking familiar nascar racers and their cars off the track and letting them do more than turn
07:21left as well as a series of increasingly ridiculous unlockable cars rumble added some much-needed
07:27adrenaline and action to the nascar license the races were just pure chaotic fun filled with car
07:34crashes near misses and ridiculous power-ups that could change the tide of the race at the last
07:38second and it's fantastic and anyone who didn't hit the track on day one will likely never get to
07:44live out their arcade nascar dreams without a ps1 funnily enough everything that made nascar rumble great
07:50would be updated in rumble racing for the ps2 the following year also unplayable on modern hardware
08:01covert ops nuclear dawn the terrorists are going to launch a missile is there any way to stop them
08:08that screwdriver taking inspiration from seemingly every source in the entertainment world and mashing
08:15them together we get covert ops nuclear dawn combining elements of metal gear solid resident
08:21evil and even steven seagull's under siege 2 players must navigate an armored train solving doorkey puzzles
08:28battling terrorists and rescuing hostages all culminating in multiple endings based on the branching
08:33narrative choices if you are even remotely familiar with resident evil you know what style of gameplay to
08:39expect here replacing zombies with terrorists you can stealth your way around or engage directly in
08:44combat while nuclear dawn did little to improve on the established formula the environments were
08:50intricately detailed and the character models were impressive given the deluge of resident evil clones it
08:56was refreshing to play a game in the same style that wasn't just recreating the horror of the original but
09:01given the title's obscurity it'll likely remain stuck on the ps1 until it's completely forgotten
09:07roger that affirmative
09:12galerians i've never heard of such a quick dosage cycle
09:16me too i'm afraid it may have destroyed the patient's memory i'm surprised he's even still alive
09:23another resident evil clone galerians at least tried to do something original with the survival horror formula
09:29replacing guns and bullets with psychic abilities players need to escape the testing facility they
09:34were being experimented on while also attempting to recover the memories of their past it's these
09:39psychic abilities at the core of the gameplay allowing the player to solve puzzles uncover
09:44secrets and engage in combat using their myriad of abilities the game actively encourages players to
09:50avoid direct combat and players need to manage the main character rayon's gauges through numerous
09:55injectables or quickly find themselves on the autopsy table the title was lauded for its graphics and
10:01its innovations to the formula but much like covert ops was lost in the oversaturated market of copycats
10:07and with only one additional sequel in the series there's unlikely enough demand for the game to receive a
10:13port of the ps1 anytime in the future it's not time yet
10:19breath of fire 3 the jrpg formula really hit its stride back on the ps1 and while many attempted to
10:26innovate or reinvent the tried and true formula
10:29fans were familiar with other titles like breath of fire 3 played to their strengths and simply delivered an incredibly
10:35polished and solid jrpg experience
10:38with an attention to detail even modern games struggle with everything from the characters the world building
10:44the narrative and the combat were some of the best the genre had to offer breath of fire 3 might
10:49be considered
10:50safe by today's standards but there's nothing wrong with simply giving players an incredibly competent
10:55experience that they can enjoy without having to relearn how to play video games sadly the breath of fire
11:01series is no more and demand for its return is almost non-existent so without some retro hardware
11:07gamers these days will never get to experience the simple joy of a quality jrpg from the genre's golden age
11:14apocalypse in direct violation of the 12 recommendations of the reverend how would you plead i'm gonna stick my
11:21foot so far up guilty i sentence you to death may the lord have mercy on your soul video games
11:26of the 90s were a
11:27different breed altogether case in point apocalypse starring none other than bruce willis getting such
11:34a high profile action hero was certainly a big deal for pre-tony hawk developer neversoft but
11:40unfortunately few even remember this game exists the shooting mechanics were simple enough to pick up and
11:46play and the typical apocalyptic narrative that only bruce willis can prevent with his many guns and
11:51one-liners was quintessential 90s b-movie fare and we loved it apocalypse plays like a time capsule
11:58of the early ps1 era when shooters were focused on nothing more than throwing increasingly difficult
12:03baddies at you and your many weapons and we genuinely missed this style of game even if bruce
12:09clearly wasn't as enthused about being in a video game as his fans were thought they had me there for
12:15a minute
12:17welcome to paradise medal of honor
12:31long before call of duty dominated the world war ii shooter genre medal of honor was leading the charge
12:37with its realistic recreations of real world historical missions that took place during the second world war
12:43conceptualized by renowned filmmaker steven spielberg medal of honor was less about the explosions and
12:49bombastic cinematic spectacle of the war and the tense smaller encounters and missions that inevitably
12:55defined and changed the outcome of the war the attention to realism didn't make the experience any
13:01less engaging and instead further engrossed players in its world with its attention to detail and realism
13:06medal of honor and its follow-up underground have since long been forgotten back on the ps1 and with the
13:12series mia for the last decade a remaster remake or even a port is extremely unlikely meaning the
13:19only way to experience the shooters that launched a thousand world war ii fps is to dig into the past
13:25and boot up a ps1 crash bash as the unofficial mascot of the playstation naturally anything mario could do
13:40for nintendo crash could do for playstation which is how we got the mario party style game crash bash
13:47much like mario party characters from the crash bandicoot series battle it out in various mini
13:52games of skill and luck and much like crash team racing crash bash mixes up the familiar formula with
13:58additional rewards for completing and winning mini games as well as the inclusion of boss fights
14:04naturally with a party style game like this it was more fun with real world friends and while the
14:09need to play through the single player to unlock more multiplayer mini games was a hassle it didn't
14:14completely dull the overall experience and honestly gave you the practice needed to dominate the
14:18matches why we got crash team rumble instead of a remake of crash bash is a decision so stupid only
14:25activision could have made it tekken 3
14:38if you owned a ps1 in the late 90s tekken 3 was a staple of your weekend sleepovers and hangouts
14:45with
14:45your friends for the time the graphics were mind-blowing and the mechanics were deeper than ever before
14:51leading to long play sessions where fights could be decided by a single blow the wealth of playable
14:56characters meant that there was someone for every player's fighting style and enough unlockable
15:01costumes to make every match feel like a custom bout although tekken 2 is playable on psn the definitive
15:07ps1 tekken experience tekken 3 isn't and is arguably the one fans want to replay the most here's hoping for
15:14some kind of compilation in the future but we wouldn't bet on it spider-man welcome true believers
15:25and newcomers alike spider-man co-creator stan lee here once again we find our hero peter partner
15:32better known around the world as the amazing spider-man in a heap of trouble with the release
15:37of sam raimi's spider-man films and the tie-in games that defined a new generation of spidey games
15:42many fans completely forgot the stellar entries spider-man and spider-man 2 inter electro back
15:48on the ps1 spider-man on the ps1 was the first game that made us feel like we were spider
15:54-man
15:54whether it was beating up baddies swinging between skyscrapers climbing on ceilings or stealthily
16:00eliminating foes this was the first game that let us truly embody spider-man the inclusion of numerous
16:06villains and heroes made the story feel lifted right from the pages of the comics and stanley
16:11encouraging us and showing us the webs early on created the pinnacle of spidey experiences
16:16sadly these titles have been completely overshadowed by other spider-man games these titles helped
16:22influence but if you're able to find a way to play them they're still some of the best the web
16:26head has
16:27to offer parker just get me out of here now bummer you're in the doghouse now dude ten shoes stealth
16:37assassins what who are you you've been a bad boy it's payback time when most gamers think of stealth
16:46games on the ps1 naturally they think of metal gear solid and rightfully so however there was another
16:53stealth series that snuck onto the ps1 the same year as snake and took an even stealthier approach
16:59to the genre giving players fully 3d environments to explore and scout their plan of attack tenchu was
17:05incredibly ambitious and one of the earliest sandbox games that allowed players to approach missions
17:10their own way tenchu was not only incredibly ambitious especially as a debut title from the
17:15studio but one of the most influential stealth games of all time sadly we not only haven't received a
17:21proper tenchu game in literal generations but the first game and its sequel are still trapped on the
17:26ps1 with no port or remaster likely to ever emerge from the shadows who would have thought it possible
17:36disruptor i didn't graduate top 10 from the academy to take some desk job sir that would have been
17:43proud of your grades school's over now the real lessons begin like many new developers on the ps1
17:49insomniac's breakout hits spiral the dragon completely overshadowed their first game disruptor on the
17:55ps1 as one of the earliest first person shooters on sony's new console and the debut game for the
18:00developer disruptor showed the promise of not only the genre on console but also the talent of the
18:06future landmark development studio the story is surprisingly complex despite being rather generic
18:12but the shooting mechanics are still as solid as ever and disruptor already demonstrated insomniac's
18:18creativity with weapons in the game's varied arsenal of psychic abilities and firepower
18:23unfortunately it would seem even insomniac has forgotten their humble origins and disruptor
18:28making the chances of a port or remaster even more unlikely as a studio who's become too big to
18:34make time for a simple fps game from the ps1 era no you want to get back to being a
18:39stormer
18:40but being interim president does have a few perks
18:50gran turismo 2 given how important the gran turismo series is to playstation it's shocking how
18:56none of the older games are playable on modern hardware not only is gran turismo 2 one of the best
19:01selling games on the ps1 it's also one of the most influential and genre-defining racers of all time
19:08setting the benchmark that even polyphony would only occasionally match within their own series
19:12no matter what jim ryan says the graphics still hold up surprisingly well and the gameplay is as
19:18solid as the series has ever been with over 600 cars and almost 30 tracks the amount of content
19:25available in gran turismo 2 was so expansive it took two discs to hold it all for racing enthusiasts the
19:32gran turismo series is the definitive video game racing simulation series and fans deserve the
19:37ability to revisit the series's early days whenever they want parasite eve and parasite eve 2
19:52believe it or not square used to get quite experimental back on the ps1 and there's no
19:57better example of this than the parasite eve duology combining elements of resident evil with a new
20:02hybrid turn-based combat system made the parasite eve series completely unique in a time when the
20:08genres were often completely separated players could even upgrade their equipment outside of battle for
20:13additional power-ups and special attacks adding a traditional layer of jrpg progression to battles
20:19both games also included a new game plus feature that drastically altered almost the entire game
20:24including brand new areas and content despite the continued popularity of the parasite eve series
20:31as well as demand for ports or remasters the duology remains trapped on the increasingly aging ps1
20:37hardware and square has never created anything else like the series in their extensive catalog
20:49vagrant story
20:55so
21:00arguably one of the most beloved rpgs on the ps1 outside of the final fantasy trilogy of games vagrant
21:06story being locked to its original hardware is a crime against gaming one of the most gorgeous games
21:12on the ps1 vagrant story also evolved the typical turn-based combat of the time instead focusing primarily
21:19on targeting enemies limbs or weak spots adding some much needed strategic depth to combat
21:24vagrant story would be nothing without its um story and thankfully vagrant story delivers a deeply
21:30emotional and ever-evolving narrative that quickly pulls players in and keeps them invested until the
21:35end along with clever puzzles as well as weapon customization and even platforming elements vagrant
21:41story heavily innovated on the jrpg formula and modern gamers are missing out on one of the most defining and
21:48influential titles of the generation due to square forgetting about its existence
21:59which ps1 game do you hope is eventually playable on modern hardware mine is all of them share your
