00:19However, we're only looking at games based on standalone movies or franchises,
00:24not those that blend multiple IPs like Dead by Daylight.
00:28Okay, that's my quiet plan.
00:35Jaws Unleashed
00:44The Jaws movies put you on the side of the people trying not to get eaten by the terrifying Great
00:50White,
00:50but in Jaws Unleashed, it's all about causing as much destruction as possible.
00:55Set 30 years after the first movie, you control a brand new shark who has a hearty appetite for the
01:02humans of Amity Island.
01:10With unlockable attacks that grow more ferocious and a hunger meter you manage by attacking people and other underwater creatures,
01:18Jaws Unleashed was great for a bit of arcadey fun on the PS2 and Xbox.
01:22While not very deep, and certainly not a masterpiece, putting us in the role of a vicious predator and setting
01:28us loose on a community was an interesting take on the iconic premise.
01:38Friday the 13th – The Game
01:41Friday the 13th – The Game
02:01It placed most players in the roles of Camp Crystal Lake's counselors, trying to make it out of the campgrounds
02:07alive,
02:07and one as famed machete wielder Jason Voorhees, hunting them in the night.
02:22Despite some technical bugs and balancing issues, the developers worked to polish the game after release,
02:28making it a nice piece of interactive entertainment for a film series that was dormant for a long time.
02:34Unfortunately, it ran into a ton of licensing issues that has basically made it unplayable for most people, but it
02:41still deserves credit.
02:48Blare Witch
02:49I think poachers would be too scared to work in these parts.
02:56Based on one of the most foundational independent horror films of all time, and set two years after it,
03:02Blare Witch has you investigating a missing child case in the deep, dark woods.
03:07As you piece together clues with your trusty dog Bullet alongside you, you must delve closer and closer to the
03:14lair of the witch that terrified so many moviegoers in 1999.
03:18Developed by Bloober Team, it does a fantastic job mimicking the style of the original movie, with a tense atmosphere
03:25and sense of dread that grows as you push forward.
03:28Although its gameplay could be a little shallow at times, the characters and tone made it a worthy follow-up.
03:35I thought there was something I had to do.
03:37Had to.
03:38But couldn't.
03:40A Quiet Place – The Road Ahead
03:50The game that's based on the newest franchise on our list, A Quiet Place – The Road Ahead is set
03:56between the prequel, Day One, and the original movie, following a woman named Alex as she tries to survive amongst
04:02the alien invasion.
04:03What makes it a unique entry in survival horror are actually the hindrances it places on you.
04:09Alex is asthmatic, which you must manage with inhalers and pills lest you have a noisy asthma attack and alert
04:16the creatures to your location.
04:25There's also a feature that uses your microphone where the aliens can pick up on your own noises.
04:31This type of loop demands a level of patience that won't be for everyone, but it makes it a decent
04:36companion to the film series.
04:42Sweet Home
04:48Although it isn't as widely known a film as the rest on our list, Japanese horror film Sweet Home received
04:54an adaptation on Nintendo's Famicom.
04:57And it's one of the most historically important stepping stones in the survival horror genre.
05:02It follows a group of filmmakers investigating a mansion and dealing with the various supernatural entities inside.
05:08The game was ahead of its time in many ways.
05:11The layout is surprisingly large, with lots of branching, interconnected paths to take.
05:16Each character has a different item used to solve puzzles, and you've got to carefully manage your resources to survive
05:22while collecting diary entries that expand on the story.
05:25It's all very classic survival horror at an early time, and Capcom would later use it as inspiration on Resident
05:32Evil.
05:38Evil Dead The Game
05:48Evil Dead is one of the most entertaining horror franchises around, and has had a couple of pretty good games
05:55throughout the years.
05:56In 2022, it jumped on the asymmetrical bandwagon to decent results.
06:00While the group of humans gathers items to complete a ritual, one player controls the Kandarian Demon, using various powerful
06:07abilities, traps, and other resources to stop them.
06:10It's always fantastic having Bruce Campbell back in the role of Ash, and a lot of other cast members returned
06:16with him.
06:16And the developers at Saber clearly understood the tone that makes the movie so great.
06:30Although it was supported through patches and content updates, it failed to maintain a high player base in an increasingly
06:36popular subgenre.
06:38It was delisted in 2025, though servers remain online for now.
06:50Clive Barker's Hellraiser Revival
07:01There aren't many long-running horror franchises that can match the viscerality of Hellraiser.
07:06Thankfully, fans can now experience all of its many gory terrors in a video game.
07:11Giving respect to Saber Interactive once again, the developer collaborated with series creator Clive Barker on the story for Revival.
07:18It follows thrill-seeker Aiden, who unknowingly gets wrapped up with a cult who worships the Cenobites.
07:24Like Bruce Campbell as Ash, it's always great hearing Doug Bradley as Pinhead, and there is some truly gnarly imagery,
07:31not for the faint of heart, throughout.
07:42Even if stealth gameplay isn't your cup of tea, the story and brutality is as good a continuation of the
07:48series as you could hope for.
07:58The Thing
08:00The Thing
08:10Set shortly after the events of John Carpenter's The Thing, this video game sequel has you lead a special forces
08:16team into that faded Antarctic station to discover what went wrong.
08:21There's definitely action as you combat The Thing with the resources you have, but there's also a distinct tension.
08:27Just like the movie, your team members will grow distrustful, not only of each other, but of you.
08:33And if you aren't careful, one of them can get replaced by the very monster you're trying to hunt.
08:43Playing into the paranoia of the film paid off.
08:46It had the markings of a strong follow-up series, but a sequel was cancelled early in development when developer
08:52computer artworks closed due to financial issues.
08:55At least more players got to experience their work with a 2024 remaster.
09:08The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
09:19Like several others, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series is a perfect match for asymmetrical multiplayer.
09:25Only, instead of one killer, a team of four survivors has to contend with three members of Leatherface's twisted family.
09:33Every character has an ability or item that the others don't, which can make it fun when strategizing on either
09:39side.
09:39And across the various grimy locales, the developers showed a lot of attention to detail, making it feel just as
09:46disgusting and claustrophobic as they do on the big screen.
09:50Although the game has since stopped receiving patches and content updates, it at least hasn't been delisted like Evil Dead
09:57and Friday the 13th.
10:06Alien Isolation
10:16Not just a fantastic horror movie tie-in, but a genuinely stressful experience in its own right, Alien Isolation remains
10:24one of the most impressive uses of enemy AI we've ever seen.
10:28As Amanda Ripley in search of big screen Mother Ellen, you explore a desolate space station with a serious infestation
10:35problem.
10:47No adaptation of the movies has ever captured the terrifying unpredictability of the Xenomorph so well before.
10:54Without much in ways to defend yourself, the game is almost solely composed of incredibly tense moments where you must
11:01manage your noise levels to avoid being ripped apart.
11:04Developer Creative Assembly did remarkable work in capturing what has made the Xenomorph such a frightening force for decades.
