00:01The AWU is on record and has been on record for about 20 years talking about our sovereign
00:06fuel capacity. It is one of only two fuel refineries left. This will impact the fuel
00:12supply in Australia and this is why the trade union has been calling for fuel reservation
00:17for years. With all the tension in the Middle East and the reduced fuel load, these refineries
00:23are now critical sovereign capacity. With an incident like this that it could take the
00:28plant down for a long period of time, we'll put a heap of pressure on the other refinery
00:33to keep fuel stocks up and we do expect it will reduce the amount of fuel supply in Australia.
00:39There's thousands and thousands of litres a day. That's around 50% of Victoria's fuel come
00:43out of this plant. We're very proud that our members refine the fuel that Victoria uses and
00:48refine the fuel for Australia. We have done for 70 odd years. It is a critical industry.
00:52When they shut Altona under the Morrison government, we were in the streets protesting saying that
00:58this was a critical industry lost. So to have it now play out during a fuel crisis is really terrible.
