00:00They want to take away the rights of the southern states, especially Tamil Nadu.
00:04If you have so much of concern about southern states, even Prime Minister will have concern about southern states.
00:08Tamil Nadu will lose 11 seats and UP will gain 13 seats.
00:12Kaila will lose 8 seats and Bihar will gain 10.
00:15Andhra Pradesh will lose 5 and Rajasthan will gain 8.
00:18Orissa will lose 3 seats and MP will gain 5.
00:21This is what's likely to happen if the Lok Sabha's strength is expanded to 850
00:26and seats are allocated on the basis of 2011 census population.
00:30The southern states and the northeast would see a sharp erosion in their share of parliamentary representation
00:35while the Hindi heartland states of northern India would be the overwhelming beneficiaries.
00:40This is the grouse of the south.
00:51The BGP is giving them the assurance that
00:57Here's what's happening.
00:59Lok Sabha seats are expected to increase to a maximum of 850
01:03to facilitate the implementation of the 33% Women's Reservation Act
01:07which requires more seats to ensure that existing constituency representation is not reduced.
01:12Every day is needed for us because it's delayed.
01:18It's not been delayed.
01:20All the parliament passed the Women's Reservation Law in September 2023
01:24to reserve one third of seats for women.
01:26Its implementation has been made contingent on a delimitation exercise
01:30conducted after the first census published following the Act.
01:34Now the government has said the delayed 2021 census
01:36which is currently ongoing will take too long to complete
01:40and so delimitation will be conducted on the basis of the latest census
01:44which means the 2011 census.
01:47The total number of Lok Sabha and state assembly seats in India
01:50has remained frozen since the 1971 census
01:53and this freeze was for 50 years.
01:56That time is up now.
01:57But since then the southern states population has reduced
02:00because they follow the population control policy.
02:03We are a restricted population growth
02:05and today we are paying the price.
02:09UP, BR, Rajasthan never follow the population.
02:12Now the question is
02:13should representation strictly reflect population
02:15or should states that invested in population control
02:18be protected from losing influence?
