Seth and Sean celebrate the Astros topping the Rockies to snap their 8 game losing streak, and talk about why it feels like Tatsuya Imai is faking his injury.
Transcript
00:00Called third strike, ball game over, Beck reacted, and once he reacted, it took him too much time to challenge.
00:08Rob Drake says you can't challenge now. Game over. Astros eighth game losing streak over.
00:15They continue their winning streak at home with six in a row. Blummer, that one didn't come very easily.
00:20No, it did not. But damn it, we're going to play celebration today because they won a baseball game.
00:26They got a one-game winning streak, the Astros do. That's right, baby. That's where it starts, Sean.
00:30That's where every great fortune begins. Every long winning streak started. This is a fact.
00:36You got to get into the black. It started with a one-game winning streak.
00:39Every long winning streak started with a one-game winning streak.
00:42That's right. Nobody would have thought that back on April 14th of 2026 that the Astros, with a win over
00:50the lowly Colorado Rockies,
00:54that would have been the beginning of an incredible win streak, the likes of which we've never seen in this
01:00great game of baseball.
01:01At least not in the live ball era.
01:03It was nice to watch a win last night.
01:05It was. It was. Even if you have to score damn near double digits to get a win these days
01:11with the Astros.
01:12This is what we've been saying for 10 days now. They're a beer league softball team, man.
01:16At one point early in the broadcast, they were talking about how, hey, on that win streak, the Astros scored
01:23five runs per game, which is really good.
01:25You know, five runs per game is really, really good.
01:28And I started doing that in that exercise that you and I have been doing lately.
01:32Well, you watch me do is where I go like, okay, what if the Astros scored five runs in every
01:36single game?
01:37What would their schedule be?
01:38Oh, yeah, the old Texans exercise.
01:39Yeah.
01:40If the Texans scored 20 points in every game this year, they'd have been like 15 and two or something
01:44like that.
01:44Right. Yeah. I started doing it. It wasn't, it was, I quit. It was, we know what the deal is.
01:52It doesn't matter how good the offense is night in and night out. If you're routinely allowing eight runs, you're
01:59going to lose a bunch of those games.
02:00Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Excitement level for Spencer Arrighetti tonight.
02:04Oh, so excited. Oh my gosh. No irony. I'm genuinely very, very excited.
02:10I'm intrigued. I'm definitely intrigued.
02:12And then they need it. It's all hands on deck, all arms on deck. And they've, they've got to figure
02:17something out.
02:18Yeah, man.
02:19Last night was fun. Just, uh, if you, if you set aside all of your cynicism over the fact that
02:23Emi's got a shoulder, a tired shoulder because of the dining schedule of the team or whatever else.
02:29Um, and we'll get into that in a moment for those of you don't know. Yeah. Uh, it was a
02:34nice win. I, my favorite part of it was that the ABS took it away in the eighth inning and
02:41then it gave it back in the ninth inning.
02:42Uh, so you heard there on that final call, the Rockies waited too long to challenge, uh, and with the
02:49call have been overturned. I didn't even bother.
02:51I didn't care. I was too busy watching them celebrate a win. It's been so long in the eighth inning.
02:57They're about to get out of the inning, uh, because there was a, a throw out at second on a
03:02strikeout.
03:02So, uh, but they challenged the Rockies challenged. It turns out it was a walk instead. Yeah. Um, and the,
03:11and the inning was extended, but then in the ninth inning on the final call, it all worked out.
03:14It did. Well, and I think the biggest thing we learned in this game, Seth, is there is no trust
03:19for Brian Abreu right now as the closer of this baseball team.
03:22Yeah. I mean, there were multiple times down the stretch in this game. The Astros had a seven to three
03:27lead in this game and the bullpen start, you know, they gave up a run in the eighth.
03:31It was seven to five going into the eighth. They give up a run in the eighth. Brian King gets
03:35into a little bit of trouble in the ninth inning. He puts, he gets two outs and then puts two
03:39guys on.
03:40They pinch run. They get a guy over to third for the tying run. And this is a classic time
03:45to bring in a closer, to get a strikeout. You just gotta, you gotta get it out.
03:48And they brought in Elliot Delos Santos. Brian Abreu is in the bullpen right there. He's fully available. And they
03:54brought in Elliot Delos Santos who got the strikeout.
03:56But so Brian Abreu is, it would seem not the closer of this baseball team anymore. No, not at all.
04:03Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's, which isn't a shock to anybody.
04:08Nobody's no, but this is injustice or anything. No, but this is the first closer situation they've had in 10
04:13days.
04:14You know, they, they, they haven't been winning in any of these games in the ninth inning. So, and Joe
04:19Espada is a guy who will go down with the ship, trusting guys. We've seen that happen in the past,
04:24you know, like he'll. And so I, I think that's a, I'm excited about it.
04:28I'm glad that Joe Espada is in tune with this. And as you pointed out yesterday, Elliot Delos Santos is
04:34one of the few pitchers that they have. It's got an ERA.
04:37A 4.3 P ERA. Yeah. He's at a 1.59 on five and two thirds innings. Yeah. And it
04:42was a perfect strike to end of the game as multiple people are pointing.
04:45Okay. So they would not have gotten overturned. Yeah. So that, so, so that that's, that's good.
04:49That's my big takeaway from this game is for the first time in 10 days, they've had a, this was
04:55a true closer situation and he's cobbling it together with Brian King and Elliot Delos Santos.
05:00Like that's, that's a big deal. And that's a big, we'll hear from Josh Hader in a minute. This is
05:05a, they got to get Josh Hader back soon situation.
05:08Brian King. I guess the Brian King is, has been awesome. He's been fine. Absolutely fine. At any point, if
05:16they had officially proclaimed him the closer or on any given night, is it going to be Delos Santos compared
05:22to Brian Abreu?
05:22He was just a mess right now. And that's even without, if you detach all emotion from it, Abreu just
05:29isn't himself physically right now.
05:30I know it's a mechanical issue, but in terms of his ability to actually pitch the way he typically pitches,
05:37he's two miles per hour slower and everything is out of skew.
05:41And it's just, you, you cannot put him out there. Okay. It doesn't have to be, it doesn't have to
05:47be any more emotional than that.
05:49It's like, he's currently not the guy to be out there in critical situations.
05:53The one inning they brought him in the last time they brought him in, I think just to get his
05:57confidence back and he, he didn't give up a run,
05:59but he put two guys on base. You're a closer. If you're, if you're a high level closer, I won't
06:04say elite.
06:05Nobody's asking you to be Mariano Rivera, but if you're trying to be a normal, above average major league in
06:12the conversation for the all-star game type closer,
06:14you just can't be putting guys on base every inning. Yeah, but we're not even talking about him.
06:18That's not his, his role isn't to be a all-star closer.
06:22He's a setup guy. And so the guy, I'm not worried about the fact that he's, you know, lost his
06:28closing spot or something.
06:30That's just, he was keeping the seat warm for Josh Hader. I'm more worried about what he is as a
06:34pitcher right now.
06:35Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, like he's just not usable. Yeah. He's not usable. Yeah.
06:40That, um, and I, and the mechanic, I thought about that this morning, the whole, like, oh, it's a mechanical
06:44thing.
06:44Like, okay. I mean, they're saying that it could be that he's, you know, guys lose, guys lose some of
06:50their steam sometimes,
06:51whether it's a conditioning thing or whatever, you know, they're saying it's a mechanical thing.
06:57This mechanical things should be fixable. He's never had the reputation of a guy that's just super passionate about, uh,
07:03his craft or anything.
07:05Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's where I start to be like, all right, well, cause they can work on it. Right.
07:09Right. Fix it.
07:10They can lie about that. You know, you're not, you can't lie about injuries, but you can say,
07:14yeah, it's a mechanical thing and nobody's going to hold you to, well, no, I would say even it's a,
07:18even if it's a mechanical thing, fix the damn mechanical thing. Right. It just, yeah. Right.
07:22Um, Josh Hader did meet with the media yesterday. As long as we're on this, let's talk about,
07:27let's hear from Josh Hader. This is Hader on where he is right now and watching how hard it is
07:31to watch
07:31the Astros struggle. I mean, obviously, you know, uh, we haven't been playing good baseball and we've been
07:36losing, but, uh, we play 162 for a reason. You know, there's a long season ahead of us. Um, we're
07:41going to have some ups and downs.
07:42I think, you know, obviously with the downs being early in the year, it magnifies, uh, much more,
07:48but, um, you know, we got a really good ball club here and we're going to do some, some really
07:53good
07:53things. I think, uh, you put too much pressure on what we got going on now, uh, you lose sight
07:59on
07:59what's ahead. So, you know, these guys know what they got to do each and every day. They're going to
08:03show up, they're going to put a hundred percent in and they're going to play good baseball. So
08:07obviously, um, you know, you just got to put the, put the foot forward and move on.
08:12Would you equate what you did today? It's sort of as like the start of what would be spring training
08:15for you, your first, first live spring training. Yeah, exactly. So, um, that's kind of where we're
08:20at right now is just going through that quote unquote spring training, um, schedule right now.
08:25And then the rehab would be essentially my games. Okay. So, um, I don't like hearing that
08:31this is essentially the start of spring training for Josh Hader. Yeah. This just in spring training
08:37is really long. Spring training starts in the middle of February and the season starts at the
08:41end of March. So that would be six weeks. Not, you know, who knows, maybe they can condense it with
08:46all this, but it's the, I think the message is he's still several weeks away from closing for this
08:51baseball team. So whatever it is, Joe spot has got to figure it out, man. He figured it out last
08:56night, but, uh, he's Hader was at 91 to 93 miles an hour. He threw 20 pitches, Seth yesterday to
09:03Taylor Trammell and Bryce Matthews. And if you're trying to get your confidence up, those are two
09:07good guys to stick in the batter's box. If you're trying to go, Hey, I struck these guys out.
09:12Those are two good guys to put in the batter's box. They strike out a lot. Taylor Trammell and
09:16Bryce Matthews. Yeah. He was at 90. That's a really good point. He was at 91 to 93 miles per
09:21hour.
09:21You were frustrated yesterday that, uh, in retroactively for Taylor Trammell being the
09:27guy who said he's never seen a pitch, uh, the, uh, a slider the way that he might throws
09:32a slide, which since then other major league hitters have said that, but that was the headline
09:37Grammy moment at that time. We're taking Trammell Scott. Career minor leaguer says he's never
09:43seen anything like this before. You know, it's amazing. Uh, it's not in the minors. I've never
09:49really seen anything the way, uh, the, the way that these guys pitch. Okay. Can we talk
09:54about EMI for a minute here? I'm trying to, I really wanted to come in today and say, you
09:57know what? They won a game moratorium on any negative Astros talk for 24 hours. I'm going
10:03to savor this thing and enjoy it. They won seven to six. I don't care who they beat. I care
10:08that they won. And then this Tatsuya EMI news comes out that he's the one guy who's undergone
10:16an MRI. Who's on the injured list. Whose tests came back all clean. His tests are clean, Seth.
10:22It's not like Hunter Brown and, and Christian Javier where there was a grade two strain of the
10:26shoulder. It's just, he's, he's like, he'd taken a bunch of drug tests or something.
10:34Yeah. His test came back clean. He's not, he's not on ambient all the time. These are
10:40the quotes from Tatsuya EMI on why he's off to such a horrific start in major league baseball.
10:46Two quotes. I want to read just not able to adjust to the American lifestyle other than
10:51baseball, baseball and outside of baseball. That's probably the reason for the arm fatigue.
10:56That's number one. Number two, the American lifestyle, just to be clear, he's not talking
11:01about the standard American diet. I presume he's not eating three Big Macs a day or something.
11:07Dude, the only way that's something I'm going to give you a pass for is if you, if you have
11:12been clean your whole life and some of you, you came here and developed a Coke habit that
11:15has you up all night or something. I've been trying to live the American lifestyle. I've
11:19been having fast food three times a day. I'm watching nine hours of cable news per day.
11:24And yeah, I'm a little off. I'm snorting Coke. I'm not feeling like myself. I'm snorting
11:29Coke off the small of the back of a stripper. This is what I was told to do. And I'm
11:35just
11:35not, I've had my grandparents watch fake news stories on Facebook so I can argue with them
11:40about it all day long. We argue until three in the morning and my, my arm is tired now.
11:44What is up with this? Okay. Here's the, here's the second quote. And again, these are the reasons
11:50why Tatsuya Imai, according to source Tatsuya Imai is on the injured list. Now the travel
11:56is and keep in mind, this is the same guy that complained that the mound was too hard
12:00in the Seattle series. The mound was too hard. The travel is different from Japan and also
12:06the timing when players eat. So in Japan, the players, when they get back to the hotel,
12:11they eat their dinner, but here the players eat at the stadium. Hey man. Hey junior, nobody's
12:19stopping you from eating after the game. If you want to keep, if that's the reason,
12:23if that's the reason your arm is tired, you don't need 15 days to correct that. Just eat
12:28after the freaking game and ignore everybody eating in the clubhouse. You know what he sounds
12:33like? He sounds like what people in other countries accuse Americans of being like when we travel,
12:39you know, well, I don't know. Back in Omaha, they give you ketchup with your burger. I don't
12:46know what the hell's going on here. I don't know how you do it in Brussels. Why? But in America,
12:52why? What the hell? Nobody's wearing big leather white sneakers over here. I don't even know what
12:57the hell you guys are doing. I eat my salad before the meal in America. Why am I getting it
13:05after the
13:05meal? Yeah, sure. It cleanses the system. Whatever. Yeah. That's a bunch of alcoholics over here is
13:11what she is. Yep. Yeah. He sounds like enough. He sounds like the stereotypical American traveling
13:17to some of the, he's like the American who's loud on the subway in Japan. Are you? I don't know.
13:23I, I, I, yo, yo, yo, yo, we talk about the, we talk on the subway here. We got to
13:28have some,
13:29we're going to talk about the, we're going to put some marinara on these noodles over here in Osaka.
13:34What the hell? I'm going to say it right now. He, he is faking it. I'm just going to say
13:39it. He is,
13:40he is freaking home. He is faking this arm fatigue. It's like he put the thermometer up to a light
13:47bulb. A hundred percent. Stay home from school. Tatsui Emai is faking this injury, like this arm
13:52fatigue. They didn't find anything on the MRI. The excuses he's making are about eating before the
13:59game instead of after the game, something that's perfectly addressable. And I'm not used to the
14:04American lifestyle. When has anybody ever, when has, this is the first foreign pitcher I can ever
14:10remember citing the American lifestyle, not as a reason for his poor performance, but a reason why
14:17his arm is tired. Yeah. This he's citing it as a reason he is on the 15 day injured list
14:23with a tired
14:25arm. Oh, this is my least favorite Astro of all time. And it's been two weeks. This is why I
14:31see,
14:31this is why it's bad that I didn't, um, follow through on my spring plans of becoming fluent in
14:36Japanese because then I could have taken over as the interpreter for the Astros. Yeah. And I would
14:41be, I would be very valuable to a sports team because I would not have interpreted what he said
14:46accurately, um, intentionally or unintentionally, intentionally, intentionally. I would have given
14:53his answer and it might've been like a 20 word answer. And he'd be looking at me as I was
14:58explaining,
14:58well, you know, my regimen, uh, isn't quite probably what it should have been. And I'm working
15:03on refining it and this, that the other thing, the best should be you're too honest to person.
15:08So you would have done that for the good of the team, but you would have, you, as you're listening
15:13to his answer, you would have been like, Ooh, I would have been given every tell as I was telling
15:18as I was doing the interpretation to whichever way. Like what is it? If you're looking up into
15:21the left, it's a sign that you're lying or up into the right, whatever it is. Yeah. Every poker
15:26tell. I'm like twitching. Oh, are you as angry as I am about this? Is he my thing? I'm so
15:34upset
15:34about this. My knee jerk is to be, I'm trying to be patient. I'm trying to be a more lying.
15:40He's
15:40faking. I've been, uh, as you know, Sean, I've been testy all this week and I've been
15:44trying to figure out why, and I don't know if it was just because of the Astros losing
15:47streak, uh, and a losing streak that I'm, I'm further agitated than I'm agitated that
15:53last night's win doesn't make me feel all that much better. Last night's win was like
15:57when the Rockets win a game, but turn the ball over 43 times. Yeah. Great. You beat a bad
16:03team by, uh, despite giving up a bunch of, despite having to use how many total pitchers
16:09last night question, they had to use, uh, let's see five relievers for the final six
16:14five relievers, six total pitchers for the final two. So, but I'm, so I'm trying to
16:19just appreciate the win and, and not being negative in snippety. Yeah. Workhorse. I
16:25don't know why. Yeah. Workhorse Colton Gordon gave you three and two thirds last
16:30night. I felt bad. Cause at the end of yesterday's segment, you said that you, uh, you
16:34thought you had pissed me off and I, I tried to explain that like, no, I'm just, I'm
16:38just, uh, I just, I'm just irritable for reasons beyond, uh, beyond anything.
16:43Any multiple justifiable reasons I could have gotten agitated with you. It's all
16:47good. It's all good. I think that I, ever since Ross Tucker accused me of having too
16:51much energy at 6am, I, uh, I feel like I'm, I'm definitely the problem. I need to, I need
16:58to just slow down or something. They have to start waking up right before the show.
17:01Oh, that would get you a couple extra hours of sleep. I started coming in a little bit
17:05later. I used to come in here at like five or five 15 and I find myself, cause I, most
17:11of our show prep is done the night before and I would come in here and just kind of find
17:15myself standing around. So I just set the alarm a little later now. Yeah. Well, you,
17:18most of your show prep is, but then I like to, because I like to work off of what you've
17:22already put down. I have to, if I don't get up early, I'm unprepared because, uh, I just,
17:27I kind of like to react to where you're leading the show. Yeah. But then, but then by the
17:32time, every other human being is listening to me or conversing with me at 6am, I've been
17:37awake for three hours and I'm ready to go. And I feel like everybody else, including the
17:42listeners is kind of just easing into their day. Ross really freaks me out, man. Two things
17:48have happened because of that one. I now hate Ross Tucker and two, I just, I need to just,
17:54I got to slow the hell down. Yeah. You're good, man. I say at 225 words per minute, you're
17:59off to a great start today. Don't worry about it.
