00:00So here's the deal. I see a lot of videos on rehab, special rehab machines being in a very specific
00:08controlled path.
00:10And it's thinking that the more controlled, the more antiseptic the environment is for the rehab work, the better off
00:19you are.
00:20Nothing could be further from the truth.
00:22I see machines that take up one machine to do one thing has more footprint in the gym than possibly
00:29a big power rack or a whole rack of dumbbells to do one thing.
00:34Case in point, that video yesterday doing the cross-leg side bends with a 143 pound barbell.
00:42I was doing that because I had woken up with a back that was tight on one side.
00:46I said, I know the cross-leg side bends will help me work out the kinks.
00:50Well, I grabbed the barbell and was walking out with it like this underhand.
00:59My loop on this foot, this is the tight side anyways, right, got caught on this screw head.
01:06So here I am trying to step out and I get yanked.
01:12You can see where I smacked into this with the bar. Boom.
01:18I'm trying to let go. I can't think, I can't, I don't know what's grabbed my foot.
01:22I finally look over and I see that it's the shoelace, the loop that's caught.
01:28I finally pull the leg back to do this and I'm able to now, didn't drop the weight, walk over
01:36and put the barbell down.
01:38Now what's funny is that because of all the crazy training that I do, all the different angles, all the
01:44imperfect movement has prepared me for real world situations where you're going to fall down.
01:49What machine is going to corrupt you for getting caught, just getting yanked this way while holding a lot of
01:55weight.
01:57I mean, there's just nothing like it, right?
02:02Ironically, not only was I prepared for it, but I noticed that now that back wasn't a problem anymore.
02:09It wasn't tight. I didn't need to do those cross-legged side bends, but I had earned all that, that
02:15chance by going through all that.
02:17I'm going to make the video, right? And I'm still glad I did it.
02:21But it's too bad that there's this huge community of rehab and prehab that thinks you need to be on
02:28this super isolated, super specific range of motion or not range of motion, but path of execution.
02:38You know, how you exactly do this movement has to be so precise and that's just not the real world.
02:44And to me, if you take a client and you're, okay, make sure you're sitting like this and you're positioned
02:51like that and your head only does this and your shoulders only do that.
02:54And I think you build up this fear of movement, this mental block about, well, you better not, you start
03:03worrying about, is this a good position to be in?
03:05Is this a, you know, in your daily life, you might start worrying about it.
03:09And I'm like, no, the training I do with people is to make them competent to be out in the
03:15real world.
03:16So no, I'm not going to have them do super crazy stuff, but I have, I am going to have
03:20them do stuff that challenges them mentally and physically.
03:24I want them to be competent with their bodies and competent to, to pull, push, twist, pick stuff up from
03:32many different angles.
03:34You know, there's already enough fear in life. We don't need to add to it. God bless.
03:38Love it till quick.
03:38Bye.
03:39Bye.
03:39Bye.
03:40Bye.
