00:00Households in the Midlands are now paying 6.21 pence per kilowatt hour for gas with a daily
00:07standing charge of 34.05 pence. Electricity costs 25.64 pence per kilowatt hour and the
00:14standing charge is 53 pence a day. It means homes across Birmingham are seeing a small rise in what
00:20they pay to power and heat their homes this autumn. The latest rise follows Ofgem's quarterly review
00:25which sets the maximum amount energy suppliers can charge for each unit of energy. The typical
00:30household will see bills go up by around two percent bringing the annual total to about
00:35£1,755. That works out as roughly £35 extra a year compared to the previous cap. Even with the
00:43increase bills remain around £625 lower than they were at the height of the energy crisis in early
00:502023. Ofgem says the change reflects higher costs of transporting energy across the network
00:56as operators adjust prices to keep supply stable.
