Gas and electricity prices have gone up in the South West, leaving many Bristol families paying more to heat their homes this winter.
Transcript
00:00In the southwest, gas now costs 6.50 pence per kilowatt hour with a daily charge of 33.64 pence.
00:08Electricity is priced at 26.82 pence per kilowatt hour and the standing charge is 54.03 pence a day.
00:17That leaves Bristol households facing some of the highest gas costs in the country heading into winter.
00:22The latest rise follows Ofgem's quarterly review which sets the maximum amount energy suppliers can charge for each unit of energy.
00:29The typical household will see bills go up by around 2%, bringing the annual total to about £1,755.
00:37That works out as roughly £35 extra a year compared to the previous cap.
00:43Even with the increase, bills remain around £625 lower than they were at the height of the energy crisis in early 2023.
00:52Ofgem says the change reflects higher costs of transporting energy across the network as operators adjust prices to keep supply stable.
