00:00Seven years after its underwhelming launch, BioWare's live service co-op looter shooter
00:06Anthem has shut down. Before EA pulled the plug for good, players united one last time
00:12to say goodbye. Released in 2019, Anthem struggled from the start. Our original PC Gamer review
00:20scored it 55%, calling it deeply flawed and frequently frustrating, though very pretty
00:28indeed. While it was never widely loved, it wasn't universally hated either. Despite
00:34patches and updates from BioWare, even the game's most dedicated players couldn't stop
00:39the inevitable. On its final day, a small but committed community of freelancers suited up
00:46and returned to Fort Tarsis one last time. PC Gamer's Lauren Morton was among them.
00:52It's not empty, she said, but it is quiet. Twitch streamers continued running missions
00:58until the servers went dark, while veteran players waved, jumped and emoted around the
01:04launch bay. On Reddit, fans shared final screenshots, achievement popups and one last quote of Anthem's
01:12tagline, Strong Alone, Stronger Together. Whether Anthem's shutdown affects you personally or not,
01:18it highlights a growing issue. However messy is legacy, Anthem had fans and now they've lost
01:26access to something they paid for and supported to the very end.
