00:00So here we go. As we get ready, Stevie, Hannah, this is going to be very interesting.
00:04We've got some great action out there. And again, Hannah, 12 boats and a very tight track.
00:09A really tight track. And with the wind speed being up so much from yesterday, it's going to feel very
00:13different on board.
00:17Under 60 seconds. And now the dance begins here on the Hudson as they get themselves into position, into the
00:22start box.
00:23Well, yeah, crucial times now. And we saw yesterday teams were struggling in this pre-start.
00:27So first race of the day, new wind, new course set up. It's always quite hard to get yourself lined
00:32up.
00:33Be interesting to see the team's strategies, USA and Spain, early to turn back.
00:37Should mean they've got a better judgment of their distance to the line, but will they be able to accelerate
00:41in?
00:4233 seconds to go. And now the Blackfoils towards the downwind end of the line.
00:46They look like they've got a good controlling position. They're going to be just watching out for Mubadla, Brazil.
00:50And Germany making a late charge in underneath them here, defending move by the New Zealand crew.
00:55They try and block the Germans, and now they work their way up, squeezing the fleet above them.
01:00Rotwold, Denmark to the left of the screen. They've got space. How can they time it from that top end
01:04of the line, though?
01:05It's going to be hard. They'll have a fast angle to Mark 1.
01:07Won't be easy to control the Rotwold, Denmark boat with the foils there.
01:11Here you go, New Zealand. Here come Mubadla, Brazil. Now it's timing, and it's a drag race from here.
01:16Brilliant start by the Spanish. Great from Denmark as well.
01:19But they're going to struggle to keep those fast foils in the water on this reach to Mark 1.
01:24The Bond flying roos are flying too high there.
01:29So as they approach Mark 1, this is fleet race number 4.
01:34And once again, it is the Spanish showing everyone their tail lights.
01:38Oh, Boutin and crew, what a job they've done on that first leg there.
01:42Joel Rodriguez, the flight controller. Hats off to him, handling that F-50 at the speed.
01:46And look how quickly the first turn comes. There'll be less wind in under the fans here.
01:51And they're going to all look to manoeuvre away early. Spain in the lead.
01:54They control it. New Zealand blocks. Oh, they're all getting blocked.
01:57Italy control the turn. Rotwold, Denmark, the British manage to get a finder way out there.
02:01It's so tight after Mark 1 as the teams try and avoid that light wind under the fans.
02:08Completely different day from yesterday. You can see some of the teams just struggling with that first manoeuvre.
02:13We're going to have to see how that plays out as we get to gate two.
02:15So now an opportunity to catch your breath as they make their way around Mark 1.
02:19We've got eight legs here. This is race number 4.
02:21We've got two more fleet races.
02:22And then only the top three teams will race in a winner-take-all event final.
02:27But right now, Stevie, Hannah, Spain looks to be the class of the field.
02:30Yeah, they're well out in front.
02:31The current is coming kind of. It's pulling them up, down, away from the bottom gate here.
02:36So I think there could be some extra manoeuvres on this downwind leg.
02:39It'll be interesting to see what the crews choose to do.
02:41My guess is there's more wind to the left of our screen.
02:44A right turn early from Spain and then to try and head that way could be good.
02:48But we're going to learn a lot.
02:49Mubadla, Brazil, brilliant first downwind leg.
02:52They're up to second.
02:53Spain lead at gate two.
02:54And it's going to be now a case of learning the course.
03:01In the shadow of Lady Liberty, they make the turn.
03:04And they're on to the next leg at gate number two, the DP World Gate.
03:07And it's Brazil that opts through their side.
03:09And the black foils get a big dip there and a taste of Hudson water.
03:12But it's still Spain, Brazil, France, and Germany, your top four.
03:16On New Zealand, you're off the foils.
03:18Lisa, you're down in the water.
03:19Which side of the course do you think is paying early on on this upwind leg?
03:23Yeah, good on board.
03:23I really like where Brazil's going.
03:26They come out.
03:26There's more pressure on this side.
03:28It's also flatter water.
03:29So that just happened with Spain there is they weren't going to make the leg,
03:34which is why they had to do that extra maneuver.
03:37Interesting stuff there.
03:38As we look here, we see the wind speed there.
03:40And Lisa's point really rains out.
03:42The Oracle cloud showing it's 26 kilometers an hour for Spain.
03:45Brazil in nearly five kilometers an hour more wind.
03:47That could be up to, I don't know, eight or nine kilometers an hour more boat speed
03:51for the Brazilians right now.
03:52So there it is.
03:53Lead change.
03:54Brazil with a right-of-way.
03:55That's going to be a massive gain to Brazil.
03:57But Spain are now heading towards that favorite side of the course.
04:01Will they make a gain late on on leg two?
04:04You can see the difference in color on the water just demonstrating
04:07how much pressure difference there is.
04:09The difference between the most pressure and the least pressure
04:11is going to make a huge impact on your boat speed.
04:14First season from Rebuttal, Brazil, and their driver Martini Grail.
04:17She's a two-time Olympic gold medalist,
04:18two-time world champion, the 2014 Sailor of the Year.
04:21She is at the wheel.
04:23This is the umpires.
04:24Penalty Australia, Porteck boat not keeping clear.
04:26Go behind Switzerland.
04:28Okay, that'll be interesting how much that hurts Brazil.
04:30Well, that sounds like Tom's thinks he was maybe questioning Craig Mitchell there.
04:35Had to confirm things.
04:36But it looks like a big lead for Mubadla Brazil at the moment.
04:39They're sailing the boat beautifully.
04:40Here they go.
04:41They look set up for the top gate here.
04:43Paul Goodison there calling for a straight in right.
04:46He's no more manoeuvres for Brazil.
04:48Right turn coming up, and they're going to head off to that windier side of the course again.
04:52Beautiful upwind leg.
04:54Massive lead for the Brazilians at this point in the race.
04:56Well, the founts in the Adrenaline Lounge and on the bleachers are getting a great view right now.
05:00The world's best sailors here.
05:01This is event number six of the Mubadla New York Sail Grand Prix as they make the turn.
05:05And this is one of the busiest waterways in the world.
05:08And to be able to close it down to bring these boats in here, Stevie and Hannah, is amazing.
05:12But it is Brazil.
05:13Will this be the race that they get their first win in SailGP?
05:18Well, they're well ahead at the moment, and they're heading on the favoured side of the course.
05:21I think what's interesting with this current, Hannah, is they're having to spend a lot more time on one tack
05:26than the other.
05:26So it's not an easy course to overtake on.
05:29No, that's right.
05:29And you can see the boats that are coming from the bottom of the screen and trying to do that
05:32right turn at the top.
05:33They don't have right of way.
05:35So they've got to pick their way through, and it'll make it really, really difficult to make the right decision
05:38at that point.
05:39I think what'll be interesting today, Todd, in this race, the final, we saw a lot of inconsistent results yesterday.
05:44Gusty, shifty breeze.
05:45Very tight course.
05:46Consistency's not going to be easy today either.
05:49Under leg four of six.
05:51It is still Brazil, Spain, and France.
05:53One, two, and three.
05:56I know we're only halfway through the season.
05:58But Canada and Great Britain are in the shot here.
06:01They were right up the leaderboard on the overall standings.
06:03And USA as well.
06:05They're struggling at the back of the pack in this race.
06:07But this could be huge for the season points here, you know.
06:10One, two, one.
06:13Even if you're not making the event final, you've got to still get a solid result if you want to
06:17make the grand final at the end of the year.
06:18Brazil, oh, favoured turn for Spain here.
06:21Spain take the left turn.
06:22It was a right turn last time that Brazil, sorry, it's a left turn where Spain are going that Brazil
06:27gained from last time.
06:28Lisa, is that now good news for Spain?
06:31Yeah, I definitely think Spain's going to more pressure.
06:34And the reason that is, is Governor's Island, that's creating a wind shadow on the left-hand side.
06:38So, you know, it really comes down to the geography, but it probably wasn't worth that.
06:43The other thing is, with the gusty conditions like this, the angles are changing.
06:47So the ley lines are so hard to pick.
06:51There we go.
06:52It's calling it pretty tricky to judge out on the water.
06:54We've got the event live.
06:54These are live events standing.
06:56So this should be who got to the final at the moment.
06:58And look at that.
06:59Brazil, with this result, currently showing as making the final, but it's really tight.
07:03There's a lot of play here.
07:05And there's still two more fleet races to go today on Super Sunday.
07:08But Brazil looking very good and in position to get their first win in SailGP League history for them.
07:15So Spain sits in second.
07:16France, who always seems to do well in big wins, they've got to be pretty happy about what they're seeing
07:20coming across at 26 kilometers an hour.
07:22Yeah, they love this.
07:23Okay, so Goodison here calling Martini.
07:26He wants to push towards the ley line.
07:27Brazil are going to try and get there in one more maneuver.
07:30They're just up here.
07:31One more maneuver, then they look for a left turn.
07:33Spain's option will be a last minute dive inside at this final top mark.
07:37But this could be the moment for Mubadla, Brazil.
07:40Yet to win a race in SailGP.
07:42Could this be the first one?
07:43Big advantage at the moment.
07:45But can Spain make a late dive in at the top mark?
07:48Two more maneuvers for Spain.
07:49No more maneuvers for Brazil.
07:54Other than a left turn to finish.
07:56And Ghibli 10.
07:57Talked about this yesterday, Todd.
07:59We said Russell Cootes called a victory for Brazil.
08:02Suf Sayer has got it happening.
08:04SailGP CEO Russell Cootes said his time was coming.
08:08And Martini Grail and company, they make the turn.
08:10And now they head for home and they will come right in front of the Adrenaline Lounge as history will
08:15be made on the Hudson.
08:17As Brazil, Mubadla Brazil with Martini Grail at the wheel look to claim their first victory in SailGP as they
08:24come to the line.
08:25And the Emirates winning moment for the first time goes the way of the Brazilians.
08:28Martini Grail and Mubadla Brazil with race number four.
08:32And getting down to the road.
08:35If we win sheet.
08:37How about that?
08:38Oh, what a race.
08:40Spanish bring it home second.
08:41Another solid one for them.
08:43But France in third.
08:44And New Zealand have worked their way back to fourth.
08:46This could be huge to try and get to this event final.
08:49But Mubadla Brazil.
08:51What a tricky race to make your first race win as well.
08:56It's tight in the pack, isn't it, Todd?
08:58Look, Australia, the flying roos.
08:59They're out the back.
09:00They've lost a lot of places on this upwind.
09:03Not sure what went wrong for Brazil.
09:05Sorry, for Australia.
09:06But this could be disastrous in terms of getting to the event final.
09:10Oh, Italy needed to give Switzerland space.
09:12Oh, that was tight.
09:14Don't be surprised to see Craig Mitchell getting asked a question.
09:17I think the Italians might have just been clear.
09:19Great Britain have got the right of way here.
09:21They should be allowed room in there.
09:22There could be more protests.
09:24That's the umpires.
09:25Penalty Italy.
09:26Not giving mark room.
09:28Go behind Switzerland.
09:30Oh, so that's going to be a go behind Italy.
09:32We'll finish behind Switzerland on the overall there.
09:34Invert those results you can see on the left side there.
09:37It's really, really tight in at that final turning mark.
09:43So the Barnes flying roos come ahead of Germany.
09:46Deutsche Bank.
09:47They will get the nod there.
09:48They've got a penalty as well, Todd.
09:50They're going to lose back behind the British, I'm pretty sure.
09:53Fucking heartless.
09:54Yeah, they had to give room as well.
09:56Same room.
09:56As soon as the boat's diving on the inside, it looked pretty reckless from the British,
10:00but they were entitled to turn on the inside there.
10:02So what we can tell you for sure is that Brazil gets the win, Spain finishes in second, and
10:08France in third.
10:10And then at the end of the race, a series of comms coming from chief umpire Craig Mitchell.
10:15So we will have to sort out the next four or five positions.
10:19Yeah, I think that could be a feature of today.
10:21When it's this gusty and shifty, things will change quite late on, and that final turning
10:26marks most people's opportunity to make an overtake if you're going to dive in.
10:31And we now go on board Mubudla Brazil for the first time in SAIL GP history, and we say
10:36congratulations to Martini Grail and her team.
10:39Martini, congratulations on this great event for you and the entire squad.
10:43What does this moment mean to you and the team to win here in New York City?
10:48Just ticking box, ticking boxes.
10:51We've been, you know, doing our goals for each event, and really happy we managed with
10:59this cancellation of the Rio event to work on our, you know, all our stuff and be able
11:05to put that in practice now.
11:07And Martini, it looks like a pretty crazy day out on the water there.
11:11What do you think are the main features for winning the race?
11:16I keep it simple.
11:19Well, you keep it simple.
11:20Start first, keep ahead of the other, you know, competitors, and finish first.
11:26And you've got Paul Goodison sat next to you.
11:28He's used to sailing simple boats like lasers, but going a bit faster out here.
11:33Goody, what was your key tactical decision for getting the overtake in on the Spanish?
11:38We had a good plan pre-start about how quickly the ley line was going to come up on the
11:43round
11:44mark one, did a good, really good job of executing the jive, and then it was a really tough call
11:48because we marginally need to lay in whether we jive or go left turn.
11:51We wanted the left turn, so the guys did a great job of soaking in, and from there we just
11:56sailed a really nice, clean race.
11:58Good day, mate.
11:58Good day.
11:58Good day.
