Artemis II astronauts get hoisted up by Navy helicopters after exiting Orion capsule
Transcript
00:00interesting we I've got this question a lot over the last few weeks about you
00:05know we did this we did this before 53 years ago and you know that I think I
00:09mean it is a reasonable thing to contemplate like what you know what
00:12what's gone on since then what I'd tell you is yes we did this 53 years ago
00:18when we landed on the moon right now another thing is happening you know when
00:23we did Apollo which again the more we learn about what they did the more
00:27magical it seems what they were able to accomplish given the technology and the
00:31learnings that they had but when we did Apollo the architects of Apollo you know
00:35Gilbert Seaman von Braun Mueller they what they really really wanted to do but you
00:41know as they were contemplating what it meant to expand our range of action to
00:45the look this are the Navy and the and this is the Air Force now they are both
00:51helping the crew members surface what they wanted to do was learn how to live
00:57and work in space for a long time they wanted to do that first before they were
01:00confident they could expand their range of action to the moon now of course the
01:04politics of the time and the mission at the time was different and so they had
01:07to go straight to the moon and and and bring it bring people home and then after
01:11that the program kind of lost its its momentum but you know after that NASA kept
01:16moving along those paths right so we we recognized during Apollo every I mean
01:20NASA is doing great in a space I just can say that after being in government
01:26facility as NASA NASA is doing great space X of Elon Musk is better far than
01:32NASA but NASA is good rather having the government thing I'm being live from the
01:37NASA itself you see visibility was gonna be important we spent a lot of money on
01:40those machines and you know we spent a lot so much money machines here even
01:44though but but we recognized the reusability was important which is why
01:47we build a wing space plane space shuttle Elon Musk showed us the usability is the
01:52one thing that we had to do for 25 years how to live and work in space and have
01:56been able to develop technologies that can enable exploration so really what I
02:00what I think is now 53 years later we're at the point where the
02:04architects of Apollo would have been pleased that we're that we're now ready to
02:08actually go back to the moon and go back to stay because we've learned all the
02:11things we needed to learn yes I think we should really go to moon and discover
02:16more things not by the robot by the real human being that's what I think
02:21there's a lot of people pleased here tonight and we really thank you for
02:25joining us on how much three on NASA's associate administrator one is one of the
02:30people is already being held you can see into hoist the crew but onto the
02:33helicopters to head back to see right here yeah very much congratulations they're
02:38going to recovery ship right now they're going to recovery ship you see one is
02:42already rescued see how far this is this is too fast they are going to recovery ship
02:49you see I mean you are thinking why the smallest it is not headed to the recovery
02:57ship so let me tell you a small ship running size this I mean the running a
03:03speed this is mission control Houston with the crew members now beginning to
03:07be hoisted aboard the Navy helicopters all right let's go to Megan Cruz aboard the
03:11USS John P Mertha who will take it from here okay okay so we are talking about the
03:18speed of that small boat the speed is not so good versus the speed okay
03:23on the bow of the ship here we all right another another helicopter is here okay
03:30the first one there having just completed picking up you see there is we have
03:35another helicopter yes we have so many we cannot depend on one that it will go and
03:41come back and then go and come back no we have way many of them because this is the
03:45best mission we have till now helo 2 now hovering just 40 feet helo 2 helo 2 is right here
03:53this
03:54is the name of front porch all right okay you see right here you see right here that person will
04:03touch down in the front porch just there right here you see right here the crew members already
04:12outfitted with a harness that will allow let me show you how they do it it's gone okay here we
04:20go you
04:20see second astronaut now off the front porch getting second astronaut off the front porch right now it
04:27comes the third one you see is the third one as we wait for that helicopter to come back make
04:33its way
04:33back around just want to mention that the president of the United States okay
04:40Donald Trump okay okay minutes after we interviewed him live on our coverage okay
04:47Donald Trump you see right here here we go the third one
04:54hoisted quickly back third astronaut is hoisted back to the first helicopter now okay now we have
04:59the now the only person left on the front porch okay come under Reed Wiseman is only person here we
05:06come the fourth helicopter fourth helicopter in the helicopter now making its way back to its way back
05:13over to the chair you see the read it is going to right here we have a zoom you see
05:22this is how they
05:23they cannot move their body you see right here they cannot move their body so because they are in the
05:28zero gravity zone zero gravity space zone they cannot move their body freely with the gravity present in
05:37here so this is how we go we cannot go upside right here we just be here and we go
05:43to the ship from right
05:45here we the last astronaut commander Reed Wiseman okay yeah off the front porch and almost everybody
05:54the second helicopter okay both now on their way back to the ship all right the USS John P Martha
06:02okay
06:03just west of San Diego USS John P Martha west of San Diego in Pacific Ocean thank you for
06:09watching this is all our coverage
