00:00Let's take a closer look at Karg Island and why it matters so much in this conflict.
00:05Karg Island is right here. It's about 15 miles off Iran's coast in the Persian Gulf.
00:10It may be small, it's actually about a third of the size of Manhattan,
00:13but it plays a key role in global energy supplies.
00:17Okay, for understanding, it is a third of the size of Manhattan, but plays a key role.
00:23Oh my God, look how small this is.
00:25Why is that? Well, this island is the primary oil export hub for Iran.
00:3290% of the country's crude exports move through the terminals here.
00:36It has storage capacity of roughly 30 million barrels, which is more than $3 billion at recent market prices.
00:45So that makes Karg a really critical economic lifeline and a high-value target,
00:50with CENTCOM striking more than 90 military targets on this little island in mid-March alone.
00:56This is a big island, okay. Not in the size, but in the value, all right.
01:02We're seeing more of those strikes today.
01:04In fact, as you look at the island, the U.S. struck more than 50 military targets on Karg early
01:09this morning.
01:10Look at this map. You've got a radar site that was struck, also an air defense complex, a hovercraft base.
01:17Those are all strikes today. They didn't include oil infrastructure.
01:22If Karg Island actually is significantly damaged, that could severely disrupt Iran's ability to export oil.
01:28This can be the biggest blow to Iran.
01:32Through the Strait of Hormuz.
01:34Now, as we pull back out here, about 20% of the global oil supply passes through the Strait of
01:42Hormuz,
01:42which is roughly 24 miles at its narrowest point right here.
01:46It's like 24 miles right here.
01:47The United Nations says that since the start of this conflict, daily transits dropped from an average of 103...
01:54Okay, so it is 95% down.
01:58...vessels in the last week of February to single digits.
02:02Single digits, damn.
02:05Oh my God, oh my God.
02:09...the average price of gas here in the U.S., it's climbing to $4.14 a gallon.
02:1386 cents higher. 86 cents.
02:15Today, J.P. Morgan is warning that the national average risks exceeding $5 a gallon if the Strait remains effectively
02:24closed by...
02:25By mid-April, 15 to 20 of April.
02:28...mid-April, we're coming up on that.
02:29That would be the highest level for gas since June of 22.
02:33But it's also matters for fertilizer.
02:36About a third of the world's fertilizer traded by sea passes through the Strait.
02:41Strait of Hormuz, okay.
02:42Countries in the region account for 13% of global exports of nitrogen, 9% of phosphate fertilizer nutrients.
02:51And as we head into planting season, the Agriculture Secretary, Brooke Rollins, insists the U.S. is prepared.
02:58Yes, the U.S. is prepared for this season.
03:00But what about the next year?
03:02We have to do something very fast with this Iran terrorism.
03:08The good news is that about 80% of our farmers actually last fall locked in their fertilizers.
03:14So as we're moving into planting season, it's only about 20 to 25% of our farmers that didn't lock
03:19that in.
03:19We are working directly to ensure that we can get them what they need and it won't bankrupt them.
03:27So as President Trump's deadline nears, at least one Gulf nation is ordering a shelter in place.
03:32And Israel is piling on pressure, saying it completed a wave of airstrikes targeting Iran's bridges.
03:39You see, these are the bridges they have, we are targeting their bridges.
03:43Because Iran is made of mountains, Iran is surrounded by lots of mountains.
03:49If you see the map, in a Tehran view, you see lots of mountains.
03:54If you destroy their main bridges, connect each other, we have the edge on this thing.
03:59In government infrastructure in Tehran and elsewhere, as you can see on this map.
