00:00Caribbean Airlines Limited Chairman Reynal Cowlesa says the national carrier had no other option but to apply the adjustment in
00:09response to the continued increase in global jet fuel prices.
00:13Cowlesa said, however, that the increase only helps offset a portion of the additional costs.
00:21The new measure came into effect today but does not apply to tickets purchased before April 10.
00:26The increase also does not apply to flights between Trinidad and Tobago.
00:32In a release today, the state-owned airline noted, quote,
00:36While the surcharge helps offset a portion of these rising costs, it is important to note that it does not
00:43fully compensate for the increase in fuel expenses and Caribbean Airlines continues to absorb a significant share of these costs
00:53to minimize the impact on customers.
00:55End quote.
00:56It added that this adjustment comes in response to continued increases in global jet fuel prices, which remain one of
01:04the most significant cost drivers in airline operations.
01:08Cal explained, quote,
01:10As of April 2026, jet fuel prices have remained elevated and airlines worldwide have had to implement cost measures to
01:20manage these increases.
01:22The airline assured that there is no increase in the airline's base fares.
