Caribbean Airlines is celebrating the renewal of their Caribbean Miles program
00:05
at their Welcome Home to Love and Loyalty event.
00:08
At Caribbean Airlines we believe that home is where the heart is and for us
00:15
the heart of the Caribbean is our people, our culture and a vibrant spirit that
00:23
connects us all. Every time you fly with us you're not just taking a journey, you're
00:29
coming home. The National Airline has benefited from expanded operations with
00:35
more adventures promised for 2025. In 2024 all passenger numbers grew. We had
00:43
six percent more passengers compared to 2023 and more than two million passenger
00:48
journeys. Foreign Minister Corm Imbert last year represented a year of growth,
00:54
success and pride. In 2024 the airline safely transported over two million
01:03
passengers to and from Trinidad and Tobago with 30% over 600,000 travelers
01:11
utilizing our domestic air bridge. This underscores the trust that you place in
01:18
Caribbean Airlines and the airline's commitment to serving you and most
01:23
importantly its safety record. This beacon of national pride he says
01:29
facilitates the economic movement of persons across both islands. Currently
01:34
each adult passenger traveling on the air bridge pays $400 per return ticket
01:40
and $300 for a child. However if there were no government subsidy each
01:50
passenger would be requested to pay approximately $870 for return airfare.
01:59
So maintaining affordability and maintaining the subsidy on the air bridge
02:05
is key transportation policy position of the government. Government spent he said
02:13
some 300 million dollars during the pandemic to keep the airline in flight.
02:18
In 2023 however Cal experienced a remarkable turnaround moving from a loss
02:23
of US 36.7 million dollars in 2022 to an operating profit of US 24.7 million
02:32
dollars. In 2024 the operating profit is still positive at US 12.1 million
02:38
dollars and this profit was affected by some factors increasing maintenance
02:46
costs handling costs and security flight operations but notwithstanding these
02:51
increased costs and the fact that the airline is expanding its fleet and
02:57
hiring more pilots and more crew and more personnel the airline still made an
03:04
operating profit. While there are plans for a strategic collaboration with Saudi
03:08
Arabia's air connectivity program two safety events involving Cal made news
03:14
locally. If there are any concerns about safety Caribbean Airlines is one of 400
03:22
registered IATA operational safety certified airlines in the world. It is
03:28
one of only three airlines within the Caribbean to achieve this safety
03:33
standard and it meets all of our globally recognized standards for airline
03:38
safety. Minister Inboot says the airline is a vital conduit for trade and the
03:43
movement of people throughout the region.
