00:00Caribbean Airlines is celebrating the renewal of their Caribbean Miles program
00:05at their Welcome Home to Love and Loyalty event.
00:08At Caribbean Airlines we believe that home is where the heart is and for us
00:15the heart of the Caribbean is our people, our culture and a vibrant spirit that
00:23connects us all. Every time you fly with us you're not just taking a journey, you're
00:29coming home. The National Airline has benefited from expanded operations with
00:35more adventures promised for 2025. In 2024 all passenger numbers grew. We had
00:43six percent more passengers compared to 2023 and more than two million passenger
00:48journeys. Foreign Minister Corm Imbert last year represented a year of growth,
00:54success and pride. In 2024 the airline safely transported over two million
01:03passengers to and from Trinidad and Tobago with 30% over 600,000 travelers
01:11utilizing our domestic air bridge. This underscores the trust that you place in
01:18Caribbean Airlines and the airline's commitment to serving you and most
01:23importantly its safety record. This beacon of national pride he says
01:29facilitates the economic movement of persons across both islands. Currently
01:34each adult passenger traveling on the air bridge pays $400 per return ticket
01:40and $300 for a child. However if there were no government subsidy each
01:50passenger would be requested to pay approximately $870 for return airfare.
01:59So maintaining affordability and maintaining the subsidy on the air bridge
02:05is key transportation policy position of the government. Government spent he said
02:13some 300 million dollars during the pandemic to keep the airline in flight.
02:18In 2023 however Cal experienced a remarkable turnaround moving from a loss
02:23of US 36.7 million dollars in 2022 to an operating profit of US 24.7 million
02:32dollars. In 2024 the operating profit is still positive at US 12.1 million
02:38dollars and this profit was affected by some factors increasing maintenance
02:46costs handling costs and security flight operations but notwithstanding these
02:51increased costs and the fact that the airline is expanding its fleet and
02:57hiring more pilots and more crew and more personnel the airline still made an
03:04operating profit. While there are plans for a strategic collaboration with Saudi
03:08Arabia's air connectivity program two safety events involving Cal made news
03:14locally. If there are any concerns about safety Caribbean Airlines is one of 400
03:22registered IATA operational safety certified airlines in the world. It is
03:28one of only three airlines within the Caribbean to achieve this safety
03:33standard and it meets all of our globally recognized standards for airline
03:38safety. Minister Inboot says the airline is a vital conduit for trade and the
03:43movement of people throughout the region.
