The Friz’s class is on an international Show and Tell game show, in which one person shows and the other tells. Arnold will bring his rock collection and Dorothy Ann will be doing the "tell" part. However, Arnold forgets the collection. He had found a strange object, which he thinks would work much better, but nobody even knows what it is. The Friz then takes the class on a field trip to find out. She turns the magic school bus into Suppose-O-Tron that can test their hypothesis.

01:22The eye showed it to you and told you all about it, Cup
01:28Are you ready, DA?
01:30Of course I'm ready!
01:32I've researched this topic up and down
01:34When Arnold shows up with this rare prize pumice collection
01:38I'll tell about it in a way that'll knock the judges' loafers off
01:42Um, speaking of Arnold, where is he?
01:45The show's about to start!
01:47This year, several gabillion new viewers have joined us via satellite
01:50Making today's event the most watched show and tell extravaganza in history
01:55Are you ready out there?
01:57Ready!
01:58Then let's get rolling!
01:59First up, from East Lothian, Scotland
02:02Tom and Ella
02:03Let's give them a warm Walkerville welcome
02:07If Arnold doesn't get here soon, we'll be disqualified!
02:13I made it! I made it!
02:15You guys are going to thank me for life!
02:18What do you mean?
02:19And where's your raw collection?
02:22At home
02:24Don't worry
02:25The contest is in the bag
02:27This bag
02:29You didn't bring your raw collection!
02:32Nope, better
02:33I brought this
02:37Is it great or what?
02:40Sure, only, what is it?
02:42I don't know, I'm just the show part
02:44TA is the tell part
02:46Well, um, according to my research, it's, um...
02:50Oh, how am I supposed to know?
02:52I've never seen one before!
02:54You haven't?
02:55I've spent the last two weeks digging up amusing rock anecdotes
02:59I don't have a clue what this thing is
03:01What do we do now?
03:03We send Arnold home to get his rocks
03:06We don't have time!
03:09Wahoo!
03:10Ms. Frizzle!
03:11You're just in time, Ms. Frizzle!
03:13Arnold brought this for show and tell
03:15And nobody knows what it is!
03:18Is that so?
03:19Well, as my nephew Conrad always says
03:21Win in doubt, figure it out!
03:24So, what do we know?
03:25Absolutely nothing!
03:28Not exactly!
03:29I know that I found this in her attic in a big trunk
03:32That used to belong to my great aunt Joan
03:34That wouldn't be by any chance Arizona Joan
03:37The famous archaeologist?
03:40That's the one!
03:41When I was little, she'd tell me stories about how she searched for things that were left behind by people
03:47a long time ago
03:49And how she'd try to figure out how people lived based on the stuff she found
03:56According to my mom, Arizona Joan's entire life was a voyage of discovery
04:11So, did she ever tell you what this is?
04:14What?
04:15I don't think she ever figured it out
04:17All she left was a trunk full of stuff
04:20And this journal about her adventures
04:22Let me see that, Arnold
04:24Maybe there are some clues in here
04:27Absolutely, Dorothy Ann
04:29Because when you think like an archaeologist
04:31Clues are news
04:33To the bus!
04:34Wait!
04:35If you're talking about a field trip
04:37We can't go now
04:38What about the show?
04:40We're about to go on
04:41Arnold!
04:42There is no show
04:44Unless I can tell everybody what your aunt Joan found
04:47To the bus!
04:49And hurry!
04:50Pull down the fort, Arnold!
04:52We'll be right back!
04:53Here, Arnold
04:54This two-way show in television
04:56Will show you where we are and tell you what we're doing
04:59See you soon!
05:01Maybe my rock shouldn't have stayed home today
05:05So, how do we figure out what this thing is if the people who use it aren't around to tell
05:11us?
05:12Archaeologists call something like this an artifact
05:14So, an artifact is anything made by people who lived a long time ago?
05:18Oh, exactly, Tim!
05:20An artifact gives us clues as to how those people lived their lives
05:24Well, someone made that thing for a reason, right?
05:28And once we figure out that reason, we'll know what it is!
05:31So, what are we supposed to do?
05:33Guess?
05:33You got it, Ralphie!
05:35That's what scientists do!
05:37They put clues together and make a guess
05:39And they call that guess a hypothesis
05:43Hypothesis!
05:43Then let me put a few clues together
05:45It's made of wood
05:47And it's pretty strong
05:49Could be some sort of a shield
05:51Maybe a war thing
05:53Sounds like a hypothesis to me, Ralphie!
05:56I don't know
05:58I think it looks more like a net
05:59Another hypothesis!
06:02Okay, okay, so we have two good guesses
06:05Now what do we do?
06:07Stand back!
06:18Whoa!
06:19Look!
06:20Nothing happened!
06:21The boss didn't change!
06:23Follow me!
06:25Welcome to the Suppositron
06:27The ultimate guess tester
06:32Now the first thing any archeologist worth her hat will do is
06:37Make a copy of the artifact
06:58This one we test
07:00While the original goes back to Arnold so he can keep it safe
07:04As my cousin Digby used to say
07:06Damage an artifact and you throw away the key
07:09Now let's start with what we know
07:12Well, there's some stuff we know for sure
07:15According to Arizona Jones Journal
07:17The artifact was definitely made a long time ago
07:21Okay
07:25A long time ago
07:28Do we know anything about the place this might have come from?
07:32It says here she found it 14 miles northwest of Fort Walkerville
07:38Fort Walkerville?
07:39That's just outside of town
07:41Okay, we're making progress
07:43From what we know
07:45What can we suppose?
07:47Well, we know the roundy thing is made of wood
07:49So I suppose there must have been trees there
07:51And there had to be people
07:53Somebody made that thing
07:55Arizona Jones writes about hunters and farmers
07:58Coming right up
08:00So maybe they sometimes fought over land
08:02So how do we find out if Ralphie's guess is right or not?
08:06Good question D.A.
08:08Shall we?
08:09Shall we what?
08:12What?
08:15Whoa!
08:15Whoa!
08:15What's happening?
08:17I think we're being frizzled
08:20Wahoo!
08:22What happened?
08:24Where are we?
08:26It's not where, Carlos
08:27It's what if
08:29The suppositron took what we knew
08:32Added our guesses
08:33And created a what if world
08:36You mean this is Ralphie's hypothesis?
08:39Come to life?
08:42Whoa!
08:44Look!
08:45They're the tribal people we supposed
08:47And they don't look too happy to see us
08:52We programmed them for a skirmish, remember?
08:55Better get your shield ready, Ralphie
08:57To test that hypothesis
08:59I hate to be the voice of doubt here
09:02But how exactly does it work?
09:05Run for cover!
09:07We're under attack!
09:08I just thought of something, D.A.
09:11What's that, Ralphie?
09:12If I hold the webbing like this
09:14And use this part as a shield
09:17We're doomed!
09:24Hey folks, and welcome back!
09:27Wow, what a contest!
09:29And what amazing contenders for this year's show and tell title!
09:34Where are those guys?
09:37Liz!
09:38What are you doing?
09:39This is a genuine historical artifact, not a toy!
09:43Let's get out of here!
09:46Run!
09:47Yahoo!
09:51Man, that was close!
09:53After rigorous testing of Ralphie's hypothesis, we've decided this hoop probably wasn't a war thing after all!
10:01And if it was?
10:02I bet you the guy who made it only lived to use it once!
10:05Attention!
10:06Class!
10:06Come in!
10:07Class!
10:08You guys know what time it is?
10:10We go on stage any minute now!
10:13We're working on it!
10:15But we can tell you it's not a war thing!
10:17Hey!
10:18Arizona Joan wrote something in here about finding evidence of bark canoes near where she found the hoop!
10:25Hey!
10:26Wait a minute!
10:27Canoes mean water, and water means fish!
10:30Look at this webbing!
10:32It's just made for grabbing and scooping things!
10:34I guessed it was a net, so now I say it's a fish net!
10:38A catchy supposition, Tim!
10:42Let's test that hypothesis!
10:46Come on, class!
10:47Let's make a splash!
10:49Let's go!
10:58This river's filled with fish!
11:02Too bad you can't catch one!
11:05Patience, Wanda!
11:06Fishing is an art!
11:07So is tightrope walking, but we don't have time to learn it!
11:11We need to know what the thing is now!
11:17I don't get it!
11:19The big fish just avoid the hoop, and the little ones swim right through the webbing!
11:23I'm starting to think this wasn't a fishing net!
11:26Duh!
11:27Oh, look, class!
11:28Rapids!
11:32Whoa!
11:38We seem to be having a bit of a theme going at this year's contest!
11:43I can't believe this is happening!
11:45I go on in ten minutes, and there I'm fishing!
11:50Hey!
11:51Quit playing!
11:52This is serious business!
11:57Well, it definitely wasn't a fishing net!
12:00And it wasn't any good at paddling through those rapids, either!
12:04When you think about it, why would they give it all these beautiful colors if they were just going to
12:09stick it in the water?
12:10So, based on that observation, Keisha, what would you say it is?
12:16Hmm...
12:16Why, a hat, of course!
12:19Look how nicely it's decorated!
12:21It says here that Joan found shells and beads that people used to decorate their clothing!
12:27Maybe they had special ceremonies!
12:30Let's suppose it was a hat used as part of a dance celebration!
12:34Let's send that idea up the flagpole!
12:38So, let's suppose we have some dancers!
12:42Bada-beam, bada-boom, a few drums!
12:46Remember Joan wrote that the people were farmers?
12:48So, let's suppose it's a harvest ceremony!
12:52Ah, good idea!
12:53So, we'll have some fields!
12:56Some corn!
12:58Hmm, a little bit of night time!
13:01Celebrations are so much more fun at night!
13:04Now, let's rock and roll!
13:15Doesn't that music just make you want to dance?
13:19Oops!
13:20Um, does anyone have some tape?
13:22I don't think they had tape back then, Keisha!
13:26Weird!
13:27There's no way to keep this hat on!
13:29No bands, no ties, no straps!
13:32You're right!
13:34And there are no marks on the rim to show where they could have been!
13:38Looks like my hypothesis is history, Ms. Frizzle!
13:41Well, maybe so, Keisha!
13:43But I bet my bottom buttons there are more hypotheses where that one came from!
13:51Wow! What a show, folks! What a show!
13:54And if you thought that last challenger was something, get a load of these kids!
13:58Come on, you guys! I'm getting mad!
14:02Can't you just pick up a pumpkin and get back here?
14:08That's it, Liz!
14:10If I catch you playing with this priceless artifact one more time,
14:15there's no chocolate-covered ants for a week!
14:17Now, what the heck is this thing?
14:20You're on in five, kid!
14:22I know, I know!
14:26Okay, so far we only know what it's not!
14:29It's not a shield, not a fishing net, and not a hat!
14:34Too bad we don't have any more clues!
14:37Arnold!
14:39Come in, Arnold!
14:41DA, what's taking you so long?
14:44Is there anything else you can tell us?
14:46We need more info before we can come up with another hypothesis!
14:51I told you all I know!
14:53What about the bag? Was there anything else in there?
14:57Sure, lots of stuff!
14:59My baby pictures, my booties, my chewed-up pacifier!
15:04Hey, wait a second! There's these arrows!
15:08Where'd you get those?
15:10They were in the back with the hoop!
15:12You'd think arrows would mean it was a war thing, but we already proved it isn't!
15:16The ends of the arrows aren't very sharp!
15:19And look! They're decorated just like the hoop!
15:22Which means they must go together!
15:25But how?
15:27Think, DA! Theorize! Guesstimate! Suppose!
15:32Let's see!
15:34Arrows? Passing through the hoop?
15:36Miss Frizzle! I need one of those arrows!
15:40I have a hypothesis to test!
15:45Please, oh please, get back in time!
15:48Please, oh please, don't make me go on by myself!
15:51DA!
15:53What a relief! Here!
15:55Thanks, Arnold!
15:55You're leaving me alone again!
15:59Okay, all you gazillions around the world!
16:02Join me now in welcoming the contestant from our very own...
16:05Walkerville Elementary School!
16:09Oh no!
16:17Please, oh please, oh please let this be a dream! Please let this be a dream!
16:23Uh, once again, our contestants from Walkerville Elementary!
16:29Uh, hello? Anybody here from Walkerville Elementary?
16:36Go for it, son!
16:38Thanks!
16:45Um, hi!
16:55Okay, now we need a whole bunch of those people we made up!
16:58A crowd of them!
16:59Yes!
17:01Now let's suppose there's a great big clearing!
17:06Way to go, Miss Frizzle!
17:11Come on, guys! Let's test this baby!
17:15Wahoo!
17:17Live from what will someday be Walkerville Civic Arena!
17:21The annual international and very important hoops and arrows competition!
17:27What are you talking about?
17:29Don't you guys get it?
17:31Look at the edges of this hoop!
17:33It's kind of beat up and worn!
17:35Kind of like it's been rolling on the ground, right?
17:38Now look how the arrows in the hoop have the same colors!
17:42In the same order!
17:45Yeah, you're right!
17:47So what do you have in your house that's round, different colors, and goes with something pointy?
17:53We have this round portrait of my Uncle Ed, and his head's kind of pointy and...
17:58A dart board!
18:00Round, bright colors, and you throw darts at it to score points!
18:04Exactly!
18:05And what's an arrow but another kind of dart?
18:08So, maybe this is a game!
18:11And maybe you have to get the arrow through the holes!
18:14Makes sense to me!
18:16I mean, people long ago needed to have fun too!
18:19Just like us!
18:20Alright! Let's play Hoops and Arrows!
18:26Ahem!
18:27Um...
18:28This is...
18:30This...
18:32Is...
18:33An...
18:34Artifact.
18:35Something left over from a long time ago.
18:39And...
18:40From objects like this...
18:42We can figure out how people used to live their lives.
18:46If you know how to read the clues.
18:48Imagine...
18:49Hundreds of years ago...
18:51That you're a noble warrior.
18:53Defending your family and friends against bitter enemies.
18:56You're willing to risk your life for your loved ones and your people.
19:00And this protective mask...
19:02This...
19:06Well...
19:07It would actually be kind of useless, wouldn't it?
19:10Because the arrows could go right through the holes and into your...
19:14Never mind.
19:16Ahem!
19:18Um...
19:18Instead...
19:19Imagine you're paddling along a crystal river.
19:22Carefully watching the rich bounty swimming under your canoe.
19:27Ooh!
19:29You sweep the water...
19:31Gently...
19:32Confidently...
19:34Then...
19:34You realize you better get a paddle that doesn't leak!
19:38Ahem!
19:41Hello Hoops and Arrow fans!
19:43Welcome to the event of the century!
19:46Wow!
19:48This game is great!
19:50You think we're good enough to compete?
19:52We're about to find out!
19:56Imagine you're at an important ceremony.
19:59The fire roars...
20:00The drummers pound...
20:03The dancers sway...
20:05And then...
20:06What?
20:08Yeah...
20:08You...
20:09You wonder why you brought this...
20:11Because there's no way to keep it on your head when you're dancing!
20:15Awww!
20:20Oh no!
20:22Sorry!
20:23Be right back!
20:28Of course!
20:30That's it!
20:32Ladies and gentlemen...
20:33What you are about to hear will truly amaze you!
20:37The purpose of this simple hoop has puzzled archaeologists for ages...
20:43As well as my class for the last half hour...
20:45Turns out to be something every kid is an expert at...
20:50A game!
20:51The object of the game was probably to get this arrow through the hoop!
20:57And if you got the arrow through the center...
21:00You'd get more points than if you got it through this open space near the rim!
21:04And how do we know all this?
21:07How?
21:09Well...
21:10Nobody does for sure!
21:12You see...
21:13It's only...
21:14A hypothesis...
21:15But the things left behind by people long ago...
21:19Like this hoop...
21:20Give us clues about how they lived!
21:22And it's up to archaeologists like us...
21:25To fit the clues together!
21:27Right, Aunt Joan?
21:31Too bad Arnold's not here to see this!
21:33Arnold!
21:35We better get back and tell him what we learned before it's too late!
21:41Thank you!
21:43Thank you!
21:43Thank you!
21:44And thank you!
21:47Oh no!
21:50Oh yes!
21:52I'm proud to present to you the most coveted prize of this competition...
21:55The official best performance by a team who originally didn't look like they knew what they were doing...
21:59But somehow came through at the last second...
22:02Award!
22:03I just want to say that this award doesn't belong to me alone!
22:08It belongs to all my classmates at Walker Elementary!
22:12Hey! You're back!
22:14You guys! We won!
22:17Arnold! How did you figure out what that was without us?
22:21Well, you told me what it wasn't...
22:24And I always knew what it was...
22:26A prize winner!
22:27I just didn't know what prize it would win!
22:30You told me what it was worth the ever-
22:41Magic school bus?!
22:43The Magic School Bus?!
22:45Magic School Bus?!
22:49Magic School Bus?!
22:50Magic School Bus!
22:52I want a Magic School Bus!
22:53I'm on the Magic School Bus.

23:03Hi. I just saw your show on archaeology, and I gotta tell you,
23:08the kids were pretty clueless about the rolling hoop.
23:11I guessed it right away.
23:12You did? Well, you must be smart.
23:15We thought the hoop thingy was pretty clever, but I suppose you can't fool everybody.
23:20That's true.
23:21Tell me something. Are all archaeologists great adventurers like Arizona Joan?
23:27Archaeologists go to a lot of exciting places, but once they get there, they have lots of work to do.
23:32Digging just one artifact out of the ground can take days or even weeks.
23:36That's because they have to be very careful to label every little thing
23:40so they know exactly which part of the dig it came from.
23:43Too bad real archaeologists can't have something like that suppositron.
23:46Well, actually, archaeologists think the way the suppositron works.
23:51They can look at the area where the artifact was found and suppose what people had to do to live
23:57there.
23:58Or they might find a painting or sculpture or writings that show how the people who lived there looked or
24:04worked.
24:05They use all sorts of clues to form a picture of how old something is or how it was used
24:10and why.
24:11I think finding artifacts and learning about how people lived long ago was really cool.
24:16Can I do some digging too?
24:18Uh, better not. Until you're an archaeologist.
24:22When people just dig something up, all the information about where things were found and what they were found with
24:28is lost forever.
24:29So if you do find something that may be old, stop. Don't dig.
24:34Find an archaeologist and tell her. That way we'll all learn more about the past.
24:39Thanks for the tip. By the way, I dig your show. See ya.
24:43Ha ha ha. Cute kid. You know, I love what I do.
24:48Hey, Liz. You find anything?
24:50Well, what do you know, Liz? That's amazing.
24:54Hey, that's mine. My brother buried it as a joke.
25:00Thanks for finding it. Vroom.
25:03Ha ha ha.
25:04Ha ha ha.
