Sal Capaccio breaks down the type of linebacker the Bills are likely to be searching for in the draft.
Transcript
00:00Do you think of a certain type of linebacker for them that they need?
00:05Like, what the traits that maybe they would want?
00:07I mean, talking about the Jim Leonard defense and maybe some of the differences.
00:11More so, also, what they don't maybe have at the position already.
00:16And I guess Terrell Bernard's place in this, too, right?
00:18Like, if they were to pick a linebacker, I think one of the first things we would think about is,
00:23okay, where does he play?
00:24Because that might tell me a little bit more about how they see Terrell Bernard going forward.
00:30It's a great question, and I'll tell you, that's the guy, right?
00:33Because, so yesterday I put out my screenshot of the Bills roster.
00:38Here's the 68 players.
00:40And one of the common responses from fans was, boy, linebacker looks thin.
00:44Linebacker doesn't look very good.
00:46They need linebacker help.
00:47And I totally get it when you look at the bottom end of the roster and you're like,
00:50yeah, you got Jimmy Charlo, Keontae Jenkins, Joe Andreessen.
00:53You know, we love Joe, but, you know, and I actually think, Joe, this is a better system for him,
00:57by the way.
00:57Um, so I think what that's telling me is fans are going, they don't believe in Bernard and Williams as
01:04a linebacker duo,
01:05or at least don't believe in one of them.
01:07And I think Terrell Bernard's the guy that a lot of people have a lot of questions about.
01:11Well, I think both of them do, but I think we have to figure out what the Bills think about
01:18Terrell Bernard
01:19and how much his injury impacted him last year.
01:21And my, my indication is they believe it greatly impacted him.
01:25I think the Bills field, Terrell Bernard can still be very, very good.
01:28I have like, I don't think there's any way he's not playing.
01:32He's not a starter.
01:32You know what I mean?
01:33I think he's going to be the green dot.
01:35He's going to be the guy.
01:36Now, how that goes, I don't know.
01:38But from a Bills perspective, I think they are confident that he's going to be better.
01:42He's not going to have to take on as a 4-3 middle linebacker, a lot more of the blocks
01:47that he would.
01:47He's not going to get caught up and have bigger guys on him.
01:50He's a smaller guy and this system will help him.
01:52So that's number one.
01:53Now we can debate that.
01:54Maybe that doesn't work out, but I think the Bills feel that.
01:58Then it comes to Dorian Williams.
02:00And you asked me like, what kind of linebacker they need?
02:03I'm going to be honest.
02:04I think they need a guy like Dorian Williams.
02:06The question is, is that guy actually Dorian Williams?
02:09You know what I mean?
02:09Like, or do you need someone who is like him, but only more reliable and, and better?
02:15They need a downhill thumper like that.
02:17And I, because Terrell is a really good athlete.
02:19Terrell can go sideline to sideline.
02:20He can make plays.
02:21He's made, he's had big interceptions.
02:23We know that over the years.
02:25That's not Dorian Williams game.
02:26Dorian Williams is see ball, get ball.
02:28Like they need a guy like that in the middle.
02:29And so, so I think that's actually the kind of guy that they already have on the roster.
02:33The question is, do you find somebody who you think is better than him to replace him?
