00:11Wait, Christine, wait. I'm gonna get you from the front, too. I got it from the back.
00:16Alright, this looks good.
00:23In 2016, my husband and I moved to Short Creek on the Utah-Arizona border.
00:30It's the fundamentalist Mormon version of Mecca.
00:36You have a call from Warren Jeffs.
00:39You may start the conversation now.
00:42At the time, their prophet, Warren Jeffs, was in prison.
00:46Guilty of two counts of felony sexual assault against two girls.
00:51We heard how dangerous this town was. We heard it was the most reclusive, isolated town in America.
00:58Warren Jeffs may be in prison, but he's apparently still very much in charge.
01:03Jeffs led the polygamous sect, the fundamentalist Church of Latter-day Saints.
01:09But I felt drawn to come here to help these people.
01:14And they said, we don't need outsider help.
01:17You're trespassing.
01:19Well, guess what? Yes, they did.
01:22Yes, they fucking did.
01:24People who think this story came to an end with Warren going to prison are wrong.
01:30They've left a very vulnerable population wide open to predators.
01:35We didn't know who we could trust.
01:38Sam Bateman saw himself being an heir apparent to Warren Jeffs.
01:44That tells you all you need to know.
01:47Predators don't come in dressed with their horns and their cape.
01:50They come in dressed in their suit and tie.
01:52The only reason I'm rich is because the Father bless you with these girls.
01:57Everybody wants to jump in, huh?
02:00He said, are you having temptations to reinforce Samuel to the lost?
02:04What?
02:05Togo, we have to, I have to turn this tape in.
02:07We're the only ones in, so we gotta get in more.
02:10Yeah, face the curtain. I'd stay that way a little bit.
02:13I wasn't there to betray them.
02:15I don't know if it's traitors or what.
02:19I was there to save them.
02:21This is the police! I want your hand to bob your head!
02:27Are you a prophet?
02:31I would be a liar if I said I wasn't.
02:47The body's wise, but mine is broken.
02:52Unsteady ties of my emotion.
02:56They say, trust yourself, but how do you know when?
03:00How do you know when?
03:02What if I fall into the abyss?
03:07What if I swing only just a mess?
03:11What if the rose looks pretty but the thorns cut me?
03:17But what if I trust me?
03:33Go ahead.
03:36Go!
03:41There she goes.
03:45There we go.
03:54We're basically moving to the creek.
03:57I mean, it is absolutely crazy out here.
04:00Especially for me, I'm a record producer.
04:02What the hell am I doing out here?
04:08There we are, we're moving in.
04:11Colorado City.
04:18Okay, it's makeshift, okay?
04:21Gave up the life of comfort.
04:26For the life among the politicians.
04:35Go this way.
04:36I'm gonna walk this way.
04:38Tolga, you go this way.
04:39I'm gonna do ten different shots.
04:42Stop.
04:47When we got here, we felt like we were in the wild, wild west.
04:52There were no outsiders here.
04:53I mean, there was maybe one other outside family that I knew of.
04:57I'm gonna do ten.
04:58I'm gonna do ten.
05:00I'm gonna do ten.
05:00My husband, Tolga, is a music video producer and a photographer.
05:06And so, of course, when we moved to this town, he wanted to document it.
05:12Hold on.
05:14So...
05:14This is where the FLDS community gets their food supplies and such.
05:19There's a lot of you to come here.
05:20Well, that's true.
05:21That's right.
05:21A lot of you to come here.
05:23Including...
05:26When Christine came along, everybody was leery of her because nobody knew what she was about.
05:34We always had people looking at us like we were a freak show.
05:38So there was a lot of speculation among our people that they were just here to do something for TV
05:45or write a book or something.
05:47We're documenting it all.
05:50They were a very eccentric couple and it was very odd.
05:54He was from Turkey and he had long hair with a little ponytail and she was like a little blonde
06:01Hollywood girl.
06:04She wore a lot of vintage clothing, which I thought was darling.
06:11But I didn't know for sure why she was here.
06:15Nobody has to buy water here.
06:17It's so beautiful to come up here.
06:19It's not work.
06:19It's like inspiration.
06:22I felt a sense of calling that I wanted to move here.
06:32Long ago, I used to be Mormon.
06:35I was mainstream Mormon, but I was absolutely zealous and devoted.
06:45Mormons believe in prophets.
06:47And I met a man who persuaded me that he was a modern day prophet.
06:54And I decided if this man was a prophet, I was going to be completely obedient.
07:01I had to do what he said or risk my soul.
07:07Little by little, I got more confused and I lost my critical thinking.
07:14Before I knew it, I was so broken.
07:18I didn't even know who I was anymore.
07:22So I then spent the next decade reading everything I could about cults.
07:30I became an expert in cult psychology.
07:37I believed that every single person who was FLDS needed to be rescued from irrational cultic beliefs and brainwashing.
07:48But I felt connected to these people.
07:50So all of this made me believe that I could be helpful here.
08:00And when I got here, I learned that the FLDS were floundering.
08:07In the aftermath of Warren Jeffs' incarceration, the community has really been fraying and fragmenting.
08:16Warren Jeffs wound up in a prison down in Texas.
08:20He's been there a long time.
08:23But I've been around the story long enough to know incarcerating Warren would do nothing to diminish his power.
08:33Having him in prison doesn't change what he is.
08:39You know, Heavenly Father hasn't appointed another to be the prophet.
08:42So as far as we're concerned, he's still the prophet.
08:47Do you know what happened in that trial?
08:48I don't want to know anything about it.
08:50You don't want to know anything about it? How come?
08:52I just don't want to.
08:53If I shut myself off to that negative about him, I...
08:56You don't believe it's true?
08:58I know it's not true.
09:01Warren Jeffs became more powerful because he's now a martyr.
09:06And from his prison in Texas, he would put out an edict.
09:10Behold that which you hear, the revelations of God.
09:14He told his congregation no more marriages.
09:18He told them to stop having sex because he's not having any sort of intimate contact.
09:23Apparently nobody else could.
09:29We weren't supposed to be getting married.
09:31We couldn't have marital relations.
09:34Even with your husband, then we didn't hug anymore.
09:38We've been taught our whole lives that not one year should go by without a child being born.
09:43So now there were no more children.
09:47Nobody was having babies.
09:50Oh my gosh.
09:53Look at these cribs.
09:55Holy mackerel.
09:56This is where they took all the cribs and bassinets after you couldn't have children anymore.
10:01There are just hundreds and hundreds of FLDS cribs in here.
10:12You have a group of people who are paralyzed, waiting for their leader to be released from prison, not knowing
10:20what the right steps are to do.
10:22And around 2015, Warren seemed to be getting more mentally unstable.
10:29And he stopped communicating with almost everyone outside of prison.
10:36And then in 2016, the outside government came in and took control of the town away from the FLDS and
10:47Warren Jazz.
10:48The court sort of took control of the entire community.
10:52The prophet was gone.
10:55We weren't getting directive.
10:59We were a very, very vulnerable and hungry people.
11:16When we got to Short Creek, we began to see what the FLDS were going through.
11:27We started seeing endless moving trailers, packing up and leaving town.
11:35We learned that when the town had been taken over by the state of Utah, the FLDS started being evicted
11:41from their homes.
11:42I need you off the property.
11:44I'm not going to be off the property.
11:46I'm going to watch you kick me out of my home.
11:49Because in order for them to stay in their homes, they had to sign a document that they believed was
11:55a violation of their religion.
11:57Take a picture of this.
11:59This is an eviction of somebody who was just evicted last week, moved over temporarily into this house.
12:08So, Tolga and I just started documenting these things.
12:11Do you need help?
12:12Do you need help?
12:12Do you need help?
12:13I don't know what's going on, but this looks really wrong.
12:16I feel bad for these people.
12:18This was my great-grandfather Elmer's homestead.
12:24It's just totally heartless.
12:27We just saw what I felt was injustice and no one cared because they were FLDS and had been painted
12:35with the crimes of Warren Jeffs.
12:40So, we thought, well, maybe we could do a documentary and tell the other side of the story of these
12:46FLDS people because they're so stigmatized.
12:49Okay.
12:49That's rolling.
12:50And this is rolling.
12:52I don't know how we have to do this.
12:55So, it syncs the audio on both cameras.
13:00We wanted to help people understand the positive side of the community.
13:04You look like you're going on a safari.
13:07What's with the hat?
13:08You're kidding.
13:08I wanted to look like a producer.
13:10Okay.
13:11Tolga, I'm going to do it.
13:12Let's do a little orientation real quick.
13:14Okay, do it.
13:15Okay.
13:16So, if he's filming, if you see Tolga with a camera, then don't call his name and don't call my
13:22name.
13:23We want to show the regular life.
13:25We want to show the truth.
13:26It took us a while to totally trust, but she really knew how to get into people's hearts.
13:33And put them at ease.
13:34So, the FLDS people consider themselves to be like the real Mormons, right?
13:39Yeah.
13:39We just feel like that we want to live it fundamentally in its purity.
13:44Yeah.
13:45Okay.
13:45Now, I didn't know anything about her backstory.
13:47I didn't know anything about her ventriloquism.
13:50Happy Thursday to you.
13:53I happen to be a ventriloquist.
13:55By the way, this is Zucchini.
13:57She's my scarecrow.
13:58I'm not just a scarecrow.
14:01I'm half scarecrow, half cookie.
14:04Before I moved here, I lived a very colorful life.
14:07I had all kinds of adventures.
14:10Miss Michigan Christine Marie.
14:14I am a former Miss Michigan, an escape artist, a certified life coach.
14:23We're gonna make vowel babies.
14:25I love these.
14:27So, what you do is cut out two pieces of fabric.
14:30When I met Christine, she had a TV show called Gingerbread House.
14:35And she was teaching kindergarten.
14:38I've never met anybody like her in my life.
14:41I would catch her doing crazy stuff, helping out people.
14:45So, Kate is here.
14:47He collected up a bunch of donations for our community.
14:50As we were making the documentary, I also launched a non-profit called Voices for Dignity.
14:56We would bring comfort bags and resource lists.
15:00And these are all new backpacks and duffel bags.
15:03You're kidding.
15:06We needed a way for the women to have an income.
15:10So, Christine created Short Creek Cottage, where we sell homemade items.
15:17Oh, that's adorable.
15:20I don't know how I would have survived without this cottage.
15:23Yeah, let's do energy.
15:26I had gained their trust.
15:31I thought, what an honor and unique position it was for me.
15:36How'd you get down?
15:38How did you get down?
15:41I decided whether people leave the church or don't, I want them to be okay.
15:47And that I would never say anything negative about their profit.
15:51Because I have the unique opportunity to help people.
15:55Why would they come to somebody fighting against their way of life?
16:03Wait one second, Christine, wait.
16:06You can turn that one on.
16:08Hold on, wait guys.
16:10We were very excited about this documentary project that we were making.
16:14I'm getting video.
16:17By this point, it was just known that Toga's around with a camera.
16:21Toga, he's having a camera.
16:24He's videoing everyone around the world too.
16:31And that's how we met Sam Bateman.
16:34Hey Christine.
16:37Come right through here.
16:38Okay.
16:39I'll push all this out of the way.
16:40Okay, thanks.
16:42All right, got it.
16:43In the community, Sam was not generally a man with status.
16:49I don't mind doing things that could break my leg or something if I wasn't careful.
16:56When I first met Sam Bateman, I didn't think much about him.
16:59He had gotten an eviction notice and he asked me to help.
17:05Which I did.
17:10At that time, he said, I'm not doing very well.
17:14I am in financially dire straits.
17:18He and his wife were getting a divorce.
17:20And he was a broken man.
17:23People thought of Sam Bateman as kind of a schlup.
17:27He could never seem to make money at his jobs.
17:31He was looking for, you know, a lifeline.
17:40I didn't see him for some time.
17:43And then Sam reappears with a new wife.
17:49Over 18, but young and beautiful.
17:51Where should I go?
17:53You can just look at him or Christine.
17:55Look at me.
17:56Keep in mind, people are not getting married because the prophet stopped marrying people.
18:03I remember thinking, that's interesting.
18:07How did Sam get a new wife?
18:09You know, somebody's been doing something that wasn't put together by the prophet.
18:17What background do you want, Matt?
18:18This one?
18:19Yeah.
18:19Okay.
18:21The next time I saw Sam, he had another wife.
18:25Again, over 18.
18:27And the younger sister of the first wife.
18:37I was running the Short Creek Cottage.
18:42And Sam showed up outside in the back.
18:46He was in a vehicle with a trailer, like a flatbed trailer.
18:53There's a gift we all can give to help along the way.
18:59And I went out and it was like just dripping with women.
19:04There are so many things to do.
19:07He showed up with all of these wives singing.
19:11And I was like, really?
19:14How did that happen?
19:18There were babies too.
19:21It was like they clearly forgot some of our core beliefs.
19:27It was really strange to me.
19:30All these women and girls.
19:53I had no desire to be close to that situation.
20:01I just started avoiding all of them.
20:04Everybody that I heard was involved with him.
20:06I just, okay, I don't want to go there.
20:12Sam was always kind of a joke in our whole friend group.
20:16So at first, I didn't believe it.
20:19I thought it was funny.
20:21But when Warren goes to a whole group of people and says,
20:25Thou shalt not have sex.
20:27I'll bet you that lasts about two and a half milliseconds.
20:31Why?
20:31Because you can't proselyte human nature out of humans.
20:34They're going to do it.
20:37And guess what?
20:38They did.
20:42Sam is apparently doing his own version of being FLDS.
20:46Getting married, having babies, and who knows what else.
20:52The FLDS community shunned Sam.
20:55They knew something was wrong.
20:56Red flag.
20:57Sam is shunned.
20:59I don't shun.
21:01If you shun, you can't help.
21:03If you attack, they're not going to come to you when they're in need.
21:07You want to go flying?
21:08You want to go flying?
21:09Oh, it's working.
21:10One, two, three.
21:10Okay, so what happened?
21:11Just seeing Sam with all these females is concerning in and of itself.
21:17So I wanted to figure out what was going on.
21:22Sam invited Tolga and I to come to dinner at a house where Sam and a lot of his wives
21:28lived.
21:31Hi.
21:35There were a lot of people there, but mostly young women.
21:40And then some very small children.
21:46They gave us their Sunday best.
21:50And then after dinner, they started singing to us like a talent show.
21:55I think these little girls are going to sing a song too.
21:58Okay.
21:58Some way.
21:59All right.
21:59Oh, that'd be wonderful.
22:01I want to go here so I get everybody.
22:03You know what?
22:03You guys don't all fit in the camera.
22:05I have to, like, keep turning, I guess, like this.
22:09All right, we're ready for the song.
22:20I had alarm bells ringing everywhere.
22:23I knew that Sam was married to some of these women.
22:32You know, even these young women.
22:35But there were rumors that he was married to the children.
22:38And this group is called?
22:40Us.
22:40Yes.
22:41Okay.
22:42How old are you guys?
22:43Did you make the words, Angela?
22:45What?
22:46We're both teams.
22:47Really?
22:54After the dinner and talent show, I talked to a police officer.
23:01The Colorado City Hilldale City Police Department is a department that's contracted to manage policing services on both sides of
23:10the border in Utah and in Arizona.
23:12We here in Colorado City Hilldale have a nice little community.
23:20The nickname's The Crick.
23:23It's been kind of a sanctuary place for people who practice plural marriage.
23:30Prior to Christine Marie speaking to us, members of the community had reached out to the police department on a
23:37number of occasions about Sam Bateman.
23:41We had heard that he was trying to gather members of the FLDS community to his new offshoot.
23:49That he was gathering multiple wives and that some of those wives may be underage.
23:57It was obviously cause for concern, but I told Christine Marie at the time that unless we could establish that
24:06some criminal act occurred, we did not have a crime to investigate.
24:12Okay.
24:13Sergeant Wilkinson told me, it's not a crime to call someone your wife, even if it's a child.
24:19What's a crime is to do something with that child, like to molest that child.
24:26And I didn't have that information.
24:31So I'm paying attention to any clue I can get.
24:36And Sam started inviting us to things and wanting us to film.
24:42Wow.
24:43How many people coming out of there?
24:44Wow.
24:46What in the world?
24:50It was uncanny.
24:51We would go on a hike up in the mountains.
24:57Sam would be there.
24:58How's it going?
25:00Hi.
25:01That was amazing.
25:02I gotta shake your hand.
25:03That was like, how do you get up those rocks like that?
25:06And then we got an idea.
25:08Hello, Toge.
25:10Hey, brother.
25:11Sorry, my voice is so bad, but I just got back into town.
25:13So I want to bring you a little surprise.
25:16Is that okay?
25:17It's your birthday.
25:18So I wanted to kind of film it and give this to you.
25:21The idea was if they let us film.
25:24Happy birthday, boy.
25:26Maybe if we spent more time with them and developed a relationship with them,
25:32maybe we would see what was really going on.
25:36Was he sexually abusing any of these girls?
25:39How old are we now?
25:41Forty-six.
25:42Forty-six?
25:43Okay, good.
25:44Great.
25:44Did you guys have a good birthday?
25:45What did you do for his birthday?
25:46We're doing it tomorrow.
25:48We didn't do it.
25:48Tomorrow?
25:49Oh, okay.
25:49Oh, good.
25:51This is for the king.
25:53Yes.
25:54We were going to literally bring you a crown.
25:56We wanted to get a crown, but we couldn't find any, so.
25:59Well, thank you.
26:00But I told him this.
26:01Please.
26:02I'll go in my room, reach out the door, and then you sing.
26:05Happy birthday, a long time.
26:06Aw.
26:12Sam, I learned, was the actual leader of this new group, the Samulite group.
26:21They all lived in the same house, a big blue house.
26:31The group was very small, less than 50 people, and that includes babies.
26:37Besides Sam, there were three main families involved.
26:43He recruited Torrance Biceline.
26:47Torrance was a very motivated businessman.
26:51Sam also recruited Liddell Biceline, Jr., and Moroni Johnson.
26:58I was so lacking in that gift of revelation.
27:02I could not do it without Samul's help.
27:05I love him more than I love you, and I will do what he asks me to do, and he
27:09has proven it,
27:10and proven it, and God is my witness.
27:13All the men in Sam's group had status in the community, and they all were successful.
27:20And I thought, why are they going for Sam, of all people?
27:29For the FLDS, everyone was expected to be obedient to the prophet.
27:34That's the way to heaven.
27:37So they're dying to hear from Warren, dying to know what their next step was.
27:45It's been five, six, seven years since some of these people have heard from Warren.
27:53Now, suddenly, Sam came up with that Warren Jeffs has actually died.
28:01And the media is lying to you, as they always do, and it's just a mannequin that's in his room.
28:11And Sam said, I am now Warren Jeffs' messenger.
28:15He's giving me this direction from the other side of death.
28:20This, in fact, was what Warren had said when his father died.
28:25His father had been the prophet, and Warren said that his father was now speaking through him.
28:33And so what Sam told his followers was that Warren had left his body, and that he was now speaking
28:40through Samuel.
28:41The other night, we were talking, and he said, this is the spirit of Uncle Warren.
28:47And I thought, that's pretty bold.
28:50Yeah, yeah, for sure.
28:52But if he didn't say it, he'd have never woke me up.
28:56He'd have never started down the path of waking me up.
28:58He is now the mouthpiece for Warren Jeffs.
29:02I can feel the spirit. I feel the spirit.
29:07It's a gift.
29:17Sam decided that the mantle of Warren Jeffs had fallen upon him.
29:21I mean, shit.
29:22You take people's faith away, they'll do anything to feel it.
29:28Moroni was the first person to believe in Sam.
29:33And because Sam was now the prophet, he agreed to turn over his daughters, even his very young daughters, to
29:43marry Sam.
29:45By the time we met Moroni, he had given all of his daughters to Sam.
29:51I surrender. The ladies under my care, you belong to Father Samuel.
29:56What he chooses to do at the end is his business.
29:59He's married.
30:00Moroni had many wives, and most of those wives married Sam.
30:09And then Sam starts taking Liddell's daughters, and his wife, and other women in his care.
30:20And I says, Samuel, she's yours. And he said, God bless you.
30:25So your whole family is now going to be sealed to Samuel?
30:29Mm-hmm.
30:31However it might look to an earthly mind, you don't have any clue.
30:36Those girls love him.
30:38I'll testify that to the whole world.
30:41I've seen it.
30:45I've seen it.
30:46Everybody in a fundamental Mormon group want to be associated with the prophet.
30:51They want to be the right-hand man of the prophet.
30:54They want to be the wife of the prophet.
30:57It's like being the wife of God.
30:59And if you're a believer, who wouldn't want that?
31:08Several of my nieces ended up marrying him.
31:14It gave him the opportunity to have children.
31:19And I just felt like, but by the grace of God, that could be me.
31:29It was really hard for me to see these people that I really loved and respected go that way.
31:38You know, Ludd and Torrance are my nephews.
31:41So I did know a lot of them very well.
31:47Now that he's a prophet, Sam would use his power to make his desires known.
31:57Torrance had a very successful green energy company that was making a lot of money.
32:04Moroni and Liddell worked for this company.
32:07And I learned that Sam's followers were subsidizing his lifestyle.
32:15We found out where he lived and so we'd drive by it every couple of days and see how many
32:19cars he had there.
32:20And then all of a sudden, holy crap.
32:24That's basically the Bateman crew and their fleet of vehicles driving by my house.
32:32That have a whole motorcade with a Range Rover and two Bentleys and then another Range Rover.
32:41And then drive around town and show off.
32:44It was really sort of a fuck you to all the men who had dissed on Sam and thought he
32:54wasn't important in his life.
32:55He wanted to show those men that he was the king.
32:58You got to show off to him.
33:00You got to show off to him that he was the king, too.
33:13Did you ever hear the story of Argan-Canua track?
33:18It was a training, it was a training I was giving the girls.
33:22It was so dang deep.
33:24It looks small on the surface, but it was eternal.
33:27I could feel it from the start.
33:30Is it something which your phone has been talking about?
33:32Oh, I think so, yeah.
33:37At some point, Sam started believing
33:40that he should be the star of our documentary.
33:44What could be better than blessing the world
33:46with his presence, his face, his teachings?
33:52Hi, Samuel.
33:53OK, we're coming with cameras.
33:57Sam's calling us saying, can you come film this?
34:02We play along.
34:03The rule of thumb was, if Sam wanted us to spend time,
34:07we were going to go.
34:08This is our new job.
34:10You brought Christine.
34:12Hi.
34:12Good luck, Christine.
34:13We are going on an adventure.
34:17Toga was making money doing music videos.
34:20But now his career was on hold.
34:23His life was on hold.
34:26He wanted us to film all the time.
34:28Like some videos of me just walking real fast.
34:31My day would start out 8 o'clock in the morning.
34:34Tolga, Sam wants you to go filming the motorcycle.
34:38Tolga, he's there.
34:39Are you, Sam?
34:42He was the worst.
34:43He couldn't jump the motorcycle.
34:44He couldn't do anything.
34:45I had to sit there and watch him like a fool.
34:49Amazing.
34:52He would say, I want you to watch me hike.
34:56Wow, you're really talented.
34:58I didn't know that.
34:59Where did you learn to do that?
35:01What?
35:02Just hiking, huh?
35:05There was Sam and the girls.
35:07And he's facilitating a reenactment of an experience.
35:12There's a message in it.
35:14It's like a life lesson.
35:15And he wanted that captured, so we're doing it.
35:18So this is kind of how it was.
35:19Did you say, pray for me, right?
35:21Yeah.
35:21Oh, yeah, I didn't say that, did I?
35:23Should we do that again?
35:24Yeah.
35:26Pray for me.
35:28That worked.
35:29Perfect.
35:30I can't guarantee this is, this is the right spot here.
35:36Watch the cactus.
35:41You'll ever been wondering when you'd come down.
35:44I'm not displeased with you, but this is a lesson that people
35:47will have to learn, is that you can communicate
35:50through the Spirit of God.
35:54OK.
35:54What?
35:55Should we do it again, or what?
35:59Then one day, Sam called in the morning,
36:03and he said he had an impression.
36:05Now, an impression is like God's telling you something.
36:09I had an impression from the Lord that you and Tolga need
36:13to come over to my house this morning,
36:17and we need to tell you some things.
36:18Oh, goodness, thank you.
36:20How about you?
36:20Let me slash it, because it is in the window.
36:24He had all these women and children there.
36:27Because they're here to protect us.
36:29And then Sam said he had an impression that he should leave
36:33the room while the girls talk to us.
36:39OK.
36:40Finally, the chance to talk to the girls by themselves.
36:45I was trying to figure out what can I ask without giving a red flag.
36:50So do you feel like, do you feel like your life,
36:53like how has your life changed since all this,
36:56since you got your testimony of Samuel?
36:58All for the better.
36:59All for the better.
37:0050 times happier, 50 times more.
37:02Something to live for.
37:04And there's always something to live for,
37:05and there's always an increase.
37:07And you always know that somebody loves you.
37:09Somebody's praying for you.
37:11What more could a girl ask for,
37:13but just to be long somewhere?
37:16Yeah.
37:18Yeah.
37:18The girls were in Aberdeen with Sam.
37:21They told us that they had received confirmation from God
37:25that they were meant to be with Sam.
37:27Can you hop in the Bentley and go get to her and talk, man?
37:30Sure.
37:30OK.
37:32And then Sam said, let's go for a drive.
37:36And he puts us in the car, and he picks three girls.
37:40I want you, and you, and you to come along.
37:44We start driving around.
37:47There's four of us in the back seat,
37:49and then Toga in the front with Sam.
37:52But he wasn't filming.
37:56Sam starts talking about how much he suffered.
38:01And it seems as if he's trying to build up to something.
38:05I thought, where is this going to go?
38:07I put in a lot of hours to wait for this moment
38:10to see what is really happening.
38:11So I reached my hand down into my purse, grabbed my phone,
38:17and I sneak it up my leg.
38:21And I very secretly hit record.
38:25And Sam just spilled the beans.
38:32So on Monday, I had the most unknown damn impression I've ever had in my life.
38:38I'm sitting in an hour, I'm meeting at the office out there.
38:42And Heavenly Father told him,
38:47have a lot of beer for me.
38:49Good.
38:51Screw her.
38:54And I was like, holy cow.
38:58And I got up and left and went up.
39:01I went and got with the body.
39:05And I said to the body,
39:06I'm always talking to me that you should be there.
39:09And I should be there.
39:11Watch it.
39:17Sam explained that he had to atone for the sins of wicked men
39:23by having these three wives have sex with them.
39:30And the three girls that he had chosen to come in the car
39:33were the three that he was telling you?
39:34Yeah.
39:35Yes.
39:36And he told me to have libale be with blood on him.
39:39And man, that just about killed me.
39:42I can't even express it.
39:43And he told me to have
39:46porous be with blood on him.
39:52This girl was 13 years old.
39:57It was clear for the first time
40:00that there was sexual abuse of children.
40:06We comprehend the pain that I experienced.
40:09Yeah.
40:09To give the most precious thing in my entire life,
40:13my girl's mansion.
40:15There could not be anything worse
40:17than another man screwing.
40:20Nothing.
40:23While he's telling this story,
40:25he's trying to describe
40:28all the pain and suffering that he had to go through.
40:32In the meantime,
40:33these pure FLDS women, young women and child,
40:42are incredibly humiliated.
40:45They were, like, you know, not good.
40:57She said,
41:00I was so dang scared.
41:02And then Sam starts telling him what to say.
41:05I want you to testify
41:06that there was no darkness in it.
41:08Was there any darkness?
41:09Did you feel darkness?
41:11Did you feel guilt?
41:12No.
41:13There's not one speck of anything.
41:16You have to make sure you testify
41:19to these two of your people
41:21that it has not been a darkness or a decrease.
41:27Has it?
41:28It hasn't.
41:29You just tell him how you feel
41:30on a good day at a toddler.
41:33It hasn't for me.
41:34Has it been an increase?
41:36It's been an increase.
41:45Anyway, that's the story.
41:47Wow.
41:50All of the panic circuitry in my body was exploding.
41:55I mean, my mouth was turning into cotton,
41:57and I couldn't handle any more.
42:02Well, I am going to go and start getting ready
42:04and feed the animals,
42:05but Tolga can stay and talk more if you want.
42:08So, um...
42:11Well, thank you.
42:12I love you guys.
42:14I love you guys.
42:14Thank you so much.
42:15Thank you for this.
42:16Yes.
42:17I love you too.
42:18Love you, Sam.
42:18And thank you guys so much.
42:19I love you all.
42:20Bye.
42:25The date is November 10th, 2021.
42:31The location is Colorado City, Arizona.
42:37I'm driving around in a car.
42:49Yeah.
42:50Tolga, we have to...
42:51We have...
42:51I have to turn this tape in.
42:54Yes, but you got...
42:55You got now full trust.
42:56You got to wait a couple more days.
42:58I know.
42:58I can't.
42:59They...
42:59I have to explain.
43:00They can't know.
43:00The girls need me to...
43:02They need to trust me,
43:03or they won't ever trust anybody.
43:05So, I don't know what to do.
43:07You know?
43:09They'll know.
43:09Just lay low for a second.
43:11You just let the police know and...
43:12Yeah.
43:13Lay low.
43:14Here, I'm going to call.
43:55I'm going to call you guide us.
