00:00Hello everyone, this is William Chambers and it is so good to be here with you all.
00:04Hello my YouTube family, hello all my watchers on social media.
00:08We're going to look at the word today, our greatest, our God.
00:11If I had a title for today's message, I would call it
00:14Turning Our Eyes From Vanity, Breaking Free From Empty Worldliness.
00:21And this world that we live in is an empty world.
00:25It's a very vain world, meaning it looks good from the outside.
00:30But when you dig in and you start to experience these empty experiences,
00:35you start to realize that this world, although it looks good from the outside,
00:40is filled with shallowness, lack of depth, lack of substance, lack of realness,
00:46lack of things that feed the soul.
00:48We live in an empty world, but the problem we have is
00:51Our eyes and our hearts are attracted to this world.
00:57Our problem comes with the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life.
01:03Lord, help my heart problem.
01:05Help my eye problem.
01:06I need you.
01:07So we're looking at a psalmist today that walks us through what he does
01:11to break through from the vanity of this world.
01:15And Lord, we need all the help.
01:17I don't want to be attached to vain things.
01:19So let's look in the text.
01:21Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
01:26Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity, and quicken thou me in thy way.
01:32This psalmist is asking God to incline or redirect his heart towards the word of God,
01:40towards the laws and the statutes of God.
01:43He's saying, Lord, I want you to redirect my desires.
01:47He's asking help from God because we cannot do this on our own strength.
01:51We need the word of God and the spirit of God to enable us.
01:54He's saying, Lord, redirect my desires, my affections, and my decisions on your word.
02:00He goes further, and he says, not to covetousness.
02:03He's saying, Lord, I want to refuse the wrong path.
02:07I don't want to be looking at things that I don't want to long for things and desire for things
02:12that you have not given unto me.
02:15This is a request to God.
02:17It's a request that we all should make.
02:18Lord, my heart moves towards vanity.
02:21My heart moves towards the things of this world naturally, and I need help for you to turn me towards
02:30you.
02:30Oh, God has helped us by giving us the word and his spirit.
02:34He's like, Lord, redirect my heart and discipline my eyes so I won't look at the world as it tries
02:41to drive me into vainness.
02:43He's talking about I don't want to be contemplating, fixing my attention on and meditating on emptiness.
02:50Oh, vanity is emptiness, worthless things.
02:54Lord, I don't want my life to be filled with nothing but worthless things.
02:57I don't want things in my life that lack substance.
03:00That's what vanity is.
03:02I don't want things in my life.
03:03I don't want to be focused and fixated on things that lack eternal value.
03:08Oh, God, deliver me, God, from temporary worldly attractions that allure us away.
03:17Oh, we have so many in our culture.
03:19He goes on and lets God know that I need divine intervention.
03:24He says, quicken thou me in thy way.
03:28Spiritual life comes through you and you alone, Lord.
03:32I need to gain a love from you.
03:34So please, God, quicken.
03:35And what that word quicken means is to bring back to life, revive spiritual life in me, revive a devotion
03:42for you back in me, revive a passion in pursuit of you after me.
03:47We are not just to avoid covetousness and avoid vanities.
03:51We are also to turn our hearts to God.
03:55So he's saying I got a heart problem that goes after the world.
03:58I got an eye problem that goes after the world.
04:00And if I don't turn aside and if you don't help me to turn aside, I will drift towards emptiness.
04:08I will drift towards meaninglessness.
04:10I will drift towards that which is harmful.
04:13Our hearts naturally drift towards that which is harmful.
04:17So the psalmist is asking God for help.
04:19And I think we should all ask God for help.
04:22This text is guiding us to choose the fullness that's in God over the emptiness of the world.
04:29And the way that we do that is by gaining a passion for God, greater than the world, pursuing God,
04:35asking his help.
04:37Oh, we're going to need his divine intervention because our hearts naturally inclined to evil.
04:41Dear Lord, help us.
04:42In Jesus name we pray and say amen.
04:51I want to thank you all that continue to watch this channel.
04:56Continue to watch me online.
04:58Want to encourage us all to stay rooted in the word of God.
05:02Want to encourage us all to keep seeking God's face.
05:05Continue here and we will dive deeper and deeper if God says the same.
05:10God bless you all.
05:16God bless you all.
