00:00Luka's agents are now appealing to the NBA to allow him to be eligible for all the postseason awards to
00:07obviously get that Supermax contract and to be in the running theoretically for the MVP award this year, which he's
00:13not going to win because SGA right now seems to be a runaway favorite.
00:16And we'll get to that in just one second. And the the rationale they have for why they want the
00:23NBA or the NBA PA to join forces with them to allow him to be eligible is because he had
00:29to go to a foreign country for the birth of his child.
00:34Right. And took missed two games because of it and does not think that Luka should be penalized for a
00:41family situation that cost him two games of the schedule.
00:45Well, that would be fine, except they don't have any answer for the other 18 games that he didn't play.
00:52I know injury is going to be a part of why he's going to miss the last, what, six or
00:56seven games.
00:56Yeah. But look, all we say to you is play 65 games out of 82.
01:03We're letting you miss 17 games. Figure it out.
01:06And I respect the fact that a guy wants to be there for his family.
01:10No one's ever going to be critical of that.
01:12And I know for him, that means flying to a foreign country.
01:16And that's what he did.
01:17But there were still 15 other games that you could have played in that you chose not to play in.
01:24And I'm not talking about the upcoming games in which you're going to miss them because of the hamstring injury.
01:30Like the fact that I think he's stuck at 64.
01:33Is that where he's right now? Right now, right?
01:35So he's one game away.
01:37Well, I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry.
01:39You should have considered that when you took maybe the second end of a back-to-back off when you
01:45were playing, you know, the Brooklyn Nets who suck.
01:47So maybe you decide to miss that game.
01:49And now you're saying, well, man, we're only one game away.
01:53The NBA made it easy for you to miss 18 games or 17 games, rather, and still be eligible for
02:01all the postseason awards and the Supermax contract and all the things that come with it.
02:06So if I'm one of the judges for the NBA that has to now be involved in this hearing or
02:12some type of arbitration, my answer is easy.
02:15No.
02:16You played 64 games.
02:18Now, the fact that you got hurt, obviously you can't predict that.
02:23And it's sad that you got hurt.
02:25And I feel bad for you that you got hurt with two weeks to go in the NBA season.
02:29But that ain't my problem, because we have set rules that were collectively bargained.
02:35The union asked for 65.
02:38We said yes to it.
02:40You're not playing in 65 games.
02:42And honestly, I don't care why you miss the games.
02:45Now, I can feel for you as a man that you want to be there for your family.
02:50I'm never going to be critical of that.
02:52But that comes with the risk that if you do get hurt, you're not going to play in enough games
02:59to be eligible for the postseason awards.
03:03Your fault.
03:04Nobody else's.
03:05Yeah, I agree, because it's a mix.
03:07Now, what happens if that child had been very ill?
03:11Thankfully, it wasn't.
03:12And he only missed no injury time.
03:15Right.
03:15Ended up playing 64 games and only missed solely due to family illness.
03:20I would say this.
03:21I think you'd have a much better argument.
03:24A much better take.
03:26I would still say no.
03:27See, I would allow it if you had a family illness.
03:30Like a wife's got cancer.
03:32Derek Fisher's daughter had that cancer with the eye.
03:35If he had missed a bunch of games for that and would otherwise qualify, I would make an exception for
03:41that.
03:42And I appreciate that.
03:43And I don't want to be the bad guy here.
03:45I would still say no.
03:47And I say that with all the as much respect as I can possibly usher up, because life does take
03:54over sometimes.
03:54And health is more important than anything.
03:57Especially if it's in the health of a family, a wife, a kid, a brother, whatever it might be.
04:00And I'm respectful of that.
04:02You're still not eligible.
04:04Because we have to have some rules that we live by.
04:07Right.
04:08And the rule that we put in, which I think, frankly, is cockamamie anyway, to tell NBA superstars, hey, look,
04:15you can essentially miss 20% of the season and you can still win every award and get super max
04:22contracts.
04:23Now, obviously, I think it's a much better argument to make that if he played in every single game and
04:30the only games he missed were because of an illness to a child, the birth, a wife, whatever it might
04:36be.
04:36Whatever it was.
04:36Right.
04:36I at least can feel for you and I'll hug you, Tyrone, and I'll be a shoulder for you to
04:43cry on.
04:44I want the money.
04:45But I'm not making you eligible because you had some type of other circumstances.
04:49Well, save the hug then.
04:50I want the money.
04:50No, but I'm going to bear hug you.
04:51I don't want the hug.
04:52I want the money.
04:53I'm coming in hot.
04:54The money.
04:55I even give you the two pounds on the back.
04:57Yeah, see.
04:57The way men do.
04:58The money.
04:59Yeah.
05:00See, it's about the money.
05:01And I'm sorry to be the bad guy here because I'm never the bad guy on this show.
05:05What?
05:0564 games?
05:07You're not eligible.
