00:01Veteran broadcast journalist Karam Singh Walia passed away at his residence in Klang at 3.30am today.
00:08He was 67.
00:11His death was confirmed by his younger brother Jaspan Singh,
00:15the Group Managing Editor of News and Current Affairs at Media Prima Berhad,
00:19bulletin TV3 reported.
00:21Karam was a well-known broadcast journalist,
00:24best remembered as a long-time news anchor and investigative reporter for TV3's bulletin utama in the 1990s and 2000s.
00:33Regarded as one of Malaysia's leading environmental journalists,
00:38Karam earned a reputation for producing bold, high-impact special reports,
00:42particularly on issues involving pollution, public safety and environmental sustainability.
00:49Communications Minister Fahmi Fazil extended his condolences to Karam's family,
00:54saying the former newsman made significant contributions to broadcasting.
00:59Fahmi also said that anyone who watched bulletin TV3, especially from the 1990s to around 2014,
01:05would instantly recognize Karam's presence,
01:08most memorably for the signature pantun that concluded each of his reports.
01:13Karam was a multiple award winner at the Malaysia Press Institute Awards,
01:18clinching the Best Environmental Television Journalist title in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
01:26He was also a two-time recipient of the Best TV Journalist Award at the Anugrah Sri Ankasa.
