00:03Bring the hype, Skatetails!
00:05We're in Mar de Plata, Argentina,
00:08to meet the speed demon of Milton Martinez
00:11and his ultimate skate family.
00:17Hey, Milton! How you doing?
00:20Let's see if I can catch up with him.
00:22Milton!
00:23To say Milton Martinez was born into skateboarding
00:26is no exaggeration.
00:28His entire family skates.
00:29Mom runs her own skate shop.
00:31Dad is Argentinian skate royalty.
00:33Both his brothers rip, and so does his daughter.
00:36Raised around a family-owned skate shop in Mar de Plata,
00:39Milton would go on to win skateboarding's highest accolade,
00:42Thrasher's Skater of the Year.
00:44We're keeping it in the family this time around
00:46as Skatetails drops in on skateboarding's raddest plan.
00:49Let's go see what's up with Mr. Milton Martinez
00:51and his ripping relatives.
01:07When was the last time you skated here?
01:09Probably like four years ago?
01:11But I used to skate here every fucking day of my life.
01:15Since I'm like 12?
01:17I think I was 12 when I built this thing.
01:22Criatura!
01:29You got your own sticker?
01:33This is like the first skateboard in Mar de Plata,
01:35so we grew up skating here.
01:38Me, my friends, my brothers, my dad, everyone.
01:42Everyone from Mar de Plata.
01:44This is La Mitra.
01:45This is a classic place.
01:46Soy Madars.
01:47Hola Madars.
01:48Encantado.
01:48There is photos of me on skateboard when I was like two years old.
01:53So that's when I supposedly started like as a game.
01:57Even though it's still a game, you know, like since I was a baby.
02:16At some point, it was everyone that skated.
02:20My mom, my parents, and my two other brothers,
02:23they skate, they see the skating, everyone see the skating.
02:26So it was always, always around skateboarding.
03:09The first time I saw Milton.
03:10I saw him playing skate
03:12A little bit.
03:13He was really small.
03:14He was a kid.
03:16There was a high spot and he wanted to shoot.
03:18You can see it as a passenger,
03:21but...
03:21this is what we see today.
03:46Here we go.
04:05Now I can say I skated a Milton Gap.
04:08You can tell by my shirt.
04:12So what is this place?
04:13So this is my house. It's my parents' house.
04:17Yeah, this is where I grew up my whole life. I live here.
04:39That's the youngest one doing a hardflip when he was like 14.
04:42And then that's AC Martinez, the board that he had for cleaver.
04:49This is my dad's pro board for voodoo skateboards.
04:53I think it's the first company I ever had a pro board, too.
04:55Okay, who is this?
04:56Oh, that's my grandpa. Pepe.
05:01Who's got more covers? Your dad or you?
05:03Probably my dad.
05:05I don't know. I think I don't know.
05:07No, he had covers.
05:08How many doors have you had?
05:11Two.
05:12Two?
05:12I'm kind of the same.
05:13Same, same.
05:14I don't know.
05:15Probably a very humble mountain.
05:17I don't know.
05:17I don't know.
05:20My parents used to put the mattress in the skate shop every day
05:24and then put the mattress back in the back to open the skate shop,
05:29which for me was like totally fine because I didn't understand.
05:33I mean, when I grew up a little bit, I was like,
05:34yeah, it's pretty tight, you know, but it was like good.
05:36We were so lucky to have, you know, like a house or like a room or like whatever.
05:41Like you don't appreciate that much what you have if it didn't go through like a little harder times.
05:52I think I'm going to go to sleep, huh?
05:55Oh, yeah. There you go.
05:56I think I'm going to lay down.
05:59The session was heavy.
06:01That's what they used to do. Exactly.
06:04Well, I just...
06:05See you guys later.
06:07Later, dude.
06:10So this is where you grew up skating? This is the main spot?
06:13Yes. This is Alicante.
06:16As you've seen it before in videos since my era and before my era,
06:22obviously people have been skating here forever.
06:24Everyone knows.
06:25If you come to Mar del Plata for skating, this is the main reason.
06:52I remember seeing footage of you doing ollie, ollie, ollie down in like three big sets in a row.
06:59Yeah.
06:59And your dad was pushing you in?
07:01Yeah.
07:02Should we go?
07:04You think you could do that again with your dad?
07:06Isa, you want me to tow you in on a bicycle?
07:09You can grab from my bicycle and I push you to the big stairs.
07:16Skating with my daughter is amazing. It's the best.
07:19I don't even want to skate. I just want to see her skating.
07:25I got super excited and started skating with mothers.
07:29And that's the feeling that I want her to know.
07:32Like that's what it's skating about.
07:34Sharing and pushing each other with your friends.
07:37I told her I'm so proud of you for like doing that.
07:40So she got the full experience of like what is being a skater on the street with your friends.
07:47And what happened? She broke her foot. First time coming back to Mar del Plata after six years. First boot.
07:57But she got the boot. She's a true mini-me.
08:03I only know that I love skating and that's all I know pretty much.
08:08Which sometimes it gets a little scary.
08:10I define skateboarding my lifesaver pretty much.
08:16When I was a little kid I didn't have that much strength so I would try to go fast.
08:22I didn't have that much bump so I would try to go fast to make sure that I was going
08:27to clear the fucking stairs.
08:30If I am like jumping stairs I know I'm going to get to the ground way quicker than if I
08:35go slow.
08:36When I hear the sound of the wheels on the ground and it's just going fast.
09:00I want to be a baby. I want to do everything for you.
09:09I take it to the ground and it's just going fast.
09:37I want to get it up and see if you don't catch it up and I'll be a baby.
10:12Your dad has a skate shop, your mom has a skate shop.
10:16Are you gonna have one?
10:18Hey, why not? Maybe.
10:22This is my mom's skate shop, social skate shop.
10:25It's been here for 10 years.
10:28I feel like I don't have any of my boards at my house,
10:31but this one would be a nice one to have, you know?
10:33It's been always on my mind to skate the car wash, so...
10:36When I was filming for the, for the Volcom video,
10:40they picked me up five in the morning, we went there,
10:42and I came back to my house with a broken foot.
10:47I remember Eliana's face.
10:48His mom was like, like, what happened?
10:51We just moved to America, and this is the third day.
10:54We didn't even move into the apartment pretty much.
10:57We were sleeping in the, in the floor,
10:59and we ended up sleeping in the floor for months
11:02because I had a broken leg.
11:03It was a hard, it was a hard time, definitely.
11:13It was a little more work than I thought,
11:15but it ended up happening.
11:17And he did a lot, you know, for my career kind of thing.
11:19There couldn't be a gnarlier kickflip to be done.
11:22I can't imagine a gnarlier one, honestly.
11:28No, not again.
11:30All right.
11:31Here, Isa.
11:33The skill of the year.
11:35Isa Versosco Martinez.
11:37Yeah!
11:40The car wash.
11:41Pasamos por ahí, me dice,
11:43mirá.
11:44De allá me tiré.
11:46Wow.
11:58Me dice, no, mamá.
11:59Ni loco venís, ni loca te llevo,
12:01porque la pasás mal, los palos que nos damos.
12:04No, me dice, no es...
12:05No está bueno, me dijo.
12:11Hasta ahora me da miedo,
12:24que manejan esa velocidad, esos controles,
13:59Hay muchas familias,
14:01skaters,
14:02y que compartimos el skate,
14:04no te digo todos los días,
14:05pero se comparte un montón acá.
14:12Es un domingo hermoso
14:14aquí en Bristol Skate Park.
14:15Parents skating together with their kids.
14:18Skateboarding in Mar del Plata
14:19is a family affair.
14:38Back to back.
14:45,
14:56.
14:58.
15:04.
15:14What does skateboarding mean to me?
15:17Everything, pretty much.
15:19This is skateboarding.
15:20This is why we're here, skating.
15:22I got Isa sharing these moments, and thanks to skateboarding, I'm back to my hometown
15:28and spending time with you guys, with my family, you know, so that's skateboarding to me.
15:36I'm back.
