00:01Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:11Gates down, let's see who can get there first.
00:13Looks like Cole Davies has his starts figured out.
00:17Seth Handmaker on that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki up the inside.
00:22And look, these two have been great.
00:24Joe Shimoda has been great.
00:25This qualifying session is fueled by On the Run.
00:28And top three, it's your top three in the championship.
00:31And I think you can, with this left-hand first corner and the second corner being a right-hand 180,
00:36I think you can get away with starting a little bit further on the outside,
00:39opening up the radius to the first turn a little bit.
00:42You can allow yourself to drift wide in that first rhythm lane,
00:45and you still have the inside for the next corner.
00:48So opens up the start, makes it a bit more fair.
00:50The second turn oftentimes as important or more important than that first turn in your positioning.
00:56Sometimes you go into the first turn, just a little bit inside the top five.
01:01That's the second turn.
01:02Sometimes you can come out first.
01:03That's where you make the most second.
01:05Absolutely.
01:06All right, let's see it.
01:07Hayden Deegan, a 53.7.
01:10Cole Davies' first session out was a 54.7.
01:13Seth Handmaker was actually fastest in the Eastern Division, a 54.6.
01:17Less than one-tenth of a second separated.
01:20Handmaker, Shimoda, and Cole Davies in Q1.
01:23They were tight, and I am very interested to see if Cole Davies is able to do this rhythm section
01:29right here.
01:30Triple out of the corner.
01:31Triple, you see that small pocket right there.
01:33Triple again, and then over the tabletop, triple into this turn.
01:37I believe that is the fastest line, and I think it's probably a half a second or so faster
01:42than two and out of the corner doing the three or tripling out, then going two.
01:48So I'll be interested.
01:49If they want to be close to Hayden, they have to do that second triple.
01:53Are you interested, or is it going to continue to frustrate you that these guys are not jumping out?
01:58Yeah, I'm probably going to grab a helmet here and go over to Mitch Payton's truck,
02:02see if they have a spare bike for me.
02:04We'll find out how hard it is.
02:07I may just go out and frame it.
02:09You never know.
02:10You never know.
02:11Hayden Deegan made it look awful.
02:12But I'm not crazy.
02:13I'm not crazy, right?
02:15No.
02:16You got to, if you want to win the race, you have to do the fastest line,
02:19and you got to at least try.
02:21You got to at least try it.
02:23Let's see what the tennis set.
02:24Handmaker does.
02:25He doesn't jump across the start.
02:26Comes up short right there.
02:28This is the section we're talking about.
02:30So triple out of the corner.
02:32Does he go triple again?
02:34That's the triple.
02:34Looks like he sized it up just a little bit.
02:37But on a 250, that's one of them.
02:39Look, Hayden wasn't sitting into it.
02:41He was standing off of it.
02:42But that's just a second or third wide open.
02:44You hit everything you got?
02:45Yeah.
02:46As long as you hit that first triple and you don't case it or overshoot it a lot,
02:52to me, it's green light.
02:55You've got it.
02:56But I don't know, JB.
02:57Maybe I'm losing touch.
02:59No, I don't think so.
02:59I think you're spot on.
03:01Hamaker on a fast one right here.
03:05He was fastest in Q1 earlier.
03:0754.6.
03:08Stands himself up a little bit.
03:09Those turns are starting to get really, really ruddy.
03:13They are.
03:13And you can tell he came into that right-hander after the mechanics area with a bunch of speed.
03:17Leaned the bike over.
03:18And sometimes when the rut is that deep, you'll catch your foot peg on the inside.
03:23It'll kind of stand you back up.
03:24It's exactly what happened to Seth.
03:27Had to back it down.
03:28Now let's see.
03:30Right here.
03:30If Cole Davies goes three.
03:32And see, just came up a little bit short.
03:34I wouldn't recommend going for the triple if you come up short on the first one.
03:38Well, you need to land right in that pocket to use your suspension.
03:41We see a rider down.
03:43Didn't quite catch who that was.
03:45As Davies goes to the top in this session with a 56.1.
03:49earlier today, he was a 54.7.
03:52But Hayden Deegan on track just a little bit ago did a 53.7.
03:58Incredibly fast.
04:01Incredibly fast time from Hayden Deegan.
04:03There's a 58.
04:03Daxton Benick.
04:04Hammocker on a fast one again.
04:06Look, fitness never an issue for Seth Hammocker.
04:08Every time we have him on screen, he's basically going for a fast lap.
04:10And he's just, he's also just so gritty.
04:13Like, there's so many times a race is not going his way.
04:17He makes some mistakes, has a crash, whatever.
04:20He's able, there are a lot of riders, and this was myself included, at times where you get,
04:25you get so frustrated with falling short of your own expectations that it kind of bleeds
04:32into the rest of the race and it can affect you.
04:34Even though you're just, you're trying to put it out of your mind.
04:37You're trying to do everything you can.
04:38But Seth, just how calm he stays when it's not going his way, I think it just allows
04:44him to get the most out of himself.
04:46And one of the grittiest guys on track.
04:49All right.
04:49Made some mistakes that lap.
04:51Now he's on another fast lap.
04:52Like I mentioned, the guy continues to throw down fast lap after fast lap.
04:56Let's see what this lap can be.
04:58And it all comes down to the roofs right here.
05:01Let's see if he gets these down the left side.
05:03Pretty solid pass right there.
05:05And then it's going to come down to those two rhythm lanes.
05:07Can he jump across the start and get that triple, triple, single into the turn?
05:11And does he go triple, triple on that next rhythm lane?
05:14And he fixed that corner after the mechanics area.
05:16Got it.
05:16Was a little bit more patient on entry.
05:19Sometimes when you have this much traction, it's tempting to come into the corner a little
05:24bit too fast.
05:25And it robs your exit speed.
05:27He's doing a good job there.
05:29We saw some yellow flags out for a second.
05:31But here's the rhythm, JB.
05:32Let's see.
05:33Triple.
05:34Triple.
05:34He goes for it.
05:36Triples again.
05:36Got it.
05:37And see, he still, he hung a wheel.
05:39He hung a wheel a bit on the first triple in.
05:42So he cased it a little bit.
05:44And so you don't even have to be perfect to do the second triple, folks.
05:48But maybe these guys, just because Hayden Deegan's doing it, nobody else is.
05:52Maybe they just, maybe they just assume.
05:54Absolutely.
05:56Cole Davies setting up a fast one right here.
06:00All right, walk us through it.
06:02Out of the right-hand turn.
06:03Seat bounce triple.
06:04Triples.
06:04You'll see him come up just a tad bit, barely short, but gets over that triple perfectly.
06:11That's coming out of the corner in second gear on a 250, shifting 250, shifting.
06:15Oh, I didn't see him playing like that.
06:19The shifting third in the air that just, yeah, you don't even have to sit into it.
06:23You don't even have to sit into it.
06:28About the 53 right there.
06:30Henry Miller got his first top five a week ago.
06:33That was Davey's on your screen.
06:34Gets that.
06:34Long time.
06:35Cole Davies on your screen.
06:36Gets that.
06:37I'm telling you.
06:39There's that.
06:39You like that?
06:40I'm telling you.
06:40Can you go on a four?
06:43Definitely quad.
06:45Definitely quad that.
06:46You can.
06:47Love it.
06:48Two of the 450 class.
06:49But he can get the four.
06:51And section flow.
06:54Yeah, I do not like that.
06:59Messes up.
07:00Messes up.
07:01Kind of the balance of the motorcycle.
07:03You've got to wait for the suspension to decompress.
07:09Cole Davies still fastest in this session.
07:12Seth Hamaker fastest overall in the east with a 54.6.
07:18There's a 53 right there.
07:20It's Henry Miller.
07:22It's a technical track.
07:23You see a lot of guys getting halfway through their fast lap and shutting it down.
07:27How many times have we seen that today, JB?
07:30But just because it's so soft.
07:34And you have a couple technical rhythm sections where you can do something different.
07:37The whoops are pretty edgy.
07:39It's a difficult racetrack for these guys.
07:41And it's difficult at qualifying intensity to do a complete lap without making a big mistake.
07:47Haley, it was awesome to see Henry Miller get that top five a week ago.
07:50What a stellar moment for Henry Miller and the team MX6, Sons of Our Fathers.
07:55This is a second-year team, but this year they've made a big jump.
07:58Oliver Stone, the team manager for the program, they wanted to really run this more like a factory team.
08:04Of course, Oliver comes from other factory teams.
08:06He's worked with Kawasaki.
08:07He's worked with Red Bull Gas Gas, TLT Gas Gas, that is.
08:11So with these guys, not just Henry Miller, but we also have some of his teammates on track.
08:17Marshall Welton, Derek Kelly.
08:18All these guys are somewhat of veterans in the class.
08:21And Oliver choked, he says, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
08:24That's false, because that's exactly what they're doing.
08:26But he himself, he had to earn their trust.
08:29So they've been learning to work together and together elevating this program.
08:33Absolutely.
08:34Thank you, Haley.
08:35That was awesome to see Henry Miller get that top five.
08:37Joe Shimoda, on your screen, well down the list right now, 15th with a 103.5.
08:43Now, we will count his Q1 time earlier today where he was second with a 54.7.
08:49But Joe, not looking like he's real comfortable right now on this racetrack.
08:54No.
08:54And we, the first shot of him was going through the whoops.
08:58And you saw him.
08:58He was just, he didn't quite have a line that he was confident in.
09:04You saw him go low in the corner before the whoops and tried to wheelie in and jump,
09:08tried to skim a little bit.
09:09So, looks like he is searching for some comfort out there right now.
09:13Yeah, you got that one, Cole.
09:15You get that second triple, no problem.
09:17I promise.
09:20Crazy to think Joe Shimoda has never been fast qualifier in 57 starts.
09:25As good as Joe is, it's crazy to think.
09:28But Cole Davies, he's going to go for one right here.
09:31Setting up a fast lap.
09:32Goes to the left side of that option lane to set up the whoops right here.
09:35Shifts up a couple of gears.
09:37Suspect into fourth.
09:39And that's how you do it, folks.
09:41Yes, perfect.
09:41And right there towards the end of the whoops, you saw him lift the front tire.
09:46Wheelied like the last three or four out like that.
09:49That was, can't get any better than that.
09:51All right.
09:52It's going to come down to these two rhythm lanes.
09:55Wheelies onto that tabletop.
09:57Doubles out.
09:57Let's see if he jumps across the start.
09:59That's the fast way.
10:00Is he going to sit into, oh, no.
10:02Oh, he jumps into the tough blocks.
10:05Looked like he was setting it up.
10:07I don't know if he thought Shimoda was going to be in his way through that rhythm lane, but decides
10:11not to go for it.
10:12There you see on the left side of your screen.
10:13That's the overall.
10:14That's basically every time this came from Q1 earlier today.
10:20Track was really, really good for these guys.
10:23They were one of the first on track.
10:25Caden Dudney, the rookie out there, the 16-year-old.
10:29And Caden Dudney, he was so good to begin the year in the SMX Next class.
10:35Earned this spot in the East Division.
10:39Hell, I think Caden Meniere's injury helped kind of make that decision for Star a little bit.
10:44But this guy, he is so good on a bike, but hasn't, he has not really had a solid result
10:51yet so far this season.
10:53Crashes, bad starts, and you saw him on screen there.
10:57Looked a little bit frustrated.
10:59Made a couple mistakes on that lap, and I'm just waiting.
11:02All it takes is one breakout moment for Caden Dudney, and I think he's going to be a different guy.
11:07This is a tough, tough racetrack to right the ship on, though.
11:12Nate Thrasher struggling with that shoulder injury to start the season.
11:16Got a heat win a week ago in Detroit.
11:17Was leading that main event.
11:19The whoops got another one, and they got Nate Thrasher as they did several racers a week ago.
11:25But Nate Thrasher looked like the Nate Thrasher that we come to expect.
11:28He did, and we've seen his wins over the year.
11:32He's beat some of the best guys in the business, Jet Lawrence included.
11:36And he's been good for at least one win a year since he turned pro.
11:40But I think dealing with the shoulder injury, and typically when you're dealing with the shoulder injury,
11:46it tends to fade over the course of the race.
11:48The strength of the shoulder does, and it just makes you a little bit less confident.
11:53A little bit less confident in your ability to keep the train on the tracks.
11:57And it probably affects what he can do, what he can work on during the week as well.
12:02But once Nate Thrasher is back in good health, I do expect him to be a podium guy.
12:08Seth Hamaker on a fast one once again.
12:11He's been working the left side.
12:13The left side of the whoops right there looks to be the freshest.
12:16And then it also sets you up for this 90-degree turn.
12:18That way you don't have to make too much of a sharp turn.
12:22He looks for that second rut right there.
12:23And that's what's interesting.
12:24You start at the top, then you go all the way to the bottom, and then you're like,
12:27okay, which one is the best?
12:28Back to the top again.
12:29Back to the top, and then you're in the middle.
12:30I like what Seth's doing right there.
12:32Wheelie's on top.
12:32Now, here we go.
12:34He's going to come down.
12:35He goes low, so he's not going to go across.
12:37He's been doing this rhythm lane off that big jump right there.
12:40And it's difficult to time that lap after lap.
12:43Yeah, and I think if the double across the start, if that other option,
12:47the option he just did on screen, if he knew he could do that every single lap,
12:53sometimes you want to go with the line that you know you can do every time.
12:56But I think you can mess that line up just as easy as you can mess up the jump across
13:01the start.
13:02So you might as well make the mistake trying to do the fastest line.
13:05That's where I'm at.
13:06Absolutely.
13:07That man right there, though, fastest in 250 Eastern Division qualifying here today.
13:13Seth Hamaker, Joe Shimoda, and Cole Davies.
13:15That'll be your top three.
13:17That's exactly what you wanted to do if you're Seth Hamaker or Joe Shimoda,
13:22is be one, two ahead of Cole Davies.
13:25That's your championship points leader, Daxton Benick and Nate Thrasher.
13:28Good to see Nate.
