00:02Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:11...happening in 2026.
00:12He's been banking on that whoop speed to get the job done.
00:15But Cole Davies, his whole shots, he hasn't had one yet.
00:19Seth Hamaker has taken notice of the whoop speed, worked on that all week.
00:22He knows the speed's not going to come overnight, but he's going to get a jump start trying to get
00:26those nine points he's down in this East Coast Championship.
00:30Thank you guys. Bikes on track now. East Division on track first.
00:35AC, what's the 250 East Division storylines here today?
00:38Item one here for the number 10 is Seth Hamaker.
00:41Look, he's gotten so much better, I think, back to Indianapolis in 2025.
00:46Him winning the showdown there, and he has continued to up his game.
00:51But he's run into another generational talent in Cole Davies on Supercross.
00:55And if he wants to contend and take this championship down to Salt Lake, he's going to have to make
01:01another step.
01:01We saw Cole Davies put the whole track together last week, and we know he's good in the whoops.
01:07But Seth Hamaker's going to have to find a little bit more speed.
01:10And with Cole Davies, if he can ride like he did last weekend in Detroit,
01:15look, he was credited with the win at Birmingham with the penalty from Deegan.
01:19But you saw the look on his face on the podium.
01:22He was not happy with his riding.
01:24And I think with each win, it seems like it's freed him up from a mental perspective.
01:30And he just looks like a guy that could challenge Hayden Deegan.
01:33So I'm excited to look at that rematch.
01:35And I was wondering why Joe Shimoda had a really off race in Detroit.
01:41Just lacked intensity, didn't have the speed, still ended up with the third.
01:45But you could see the disappointment on the podium.
01:48And I talked to him here at Press Day yesterday.
01:50He said he was very, very sick, had flu-like symptoms, wasn't himself.
01:55So I expect Joe Shimoda, who's 14 down in this championship,
01:59if he wants to be in this thing at the end, he needs a win here tonight.
02:03There's no doubt about it.
02:05So I expect Joe, now that he's healthy, to be a bit better.
02:08Absolutely.
02:09Joe Shimoda, 14 points down to Cole Davies.
02:12That man right there with that red plate, your championship points leader by nine,
02:17over Seth Hamaker.
02:18And, Adam, we've talked about it all week as we get things going here at 250 East.
02:22Qualifying refueled by on-the-run.
02:25This St. Louis dirt, we're going to start right there.
02:27Some of the best, if not the best, of the season.
02:30It is.
02:31And both you and I were surprised watching Press yesterday,
02:34walking on the track, and how soft it was.
02:37We even talked to some of the track crew, guys over at Dirtworks,
02:41and they said it could be Indy.
02:42It could be Indy-type conditions.
02:45We know how deep the ruts get there.
02:47So one of the best, one of the best dirts in the whole series.
02:50I think a lot of riders look forward to it.
02:52And I love watching riders how much they can push,
02:55how fast they can go when you have traction like we have here in St. Louis.
02:59Cole Davies on the 37.
03:01That Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing Machine, he is on a roll.
03:04He's got three wins in a row.
03:06He's led 48 laps this season.
03:08And he's averaged eighth on lap one.
03:12So the starts haven't been there.
03:13The speed has been.
03:15And until this past weekend, and we have some stats to back that up,
03:18but until last weekend, Seth Hamaker and Joe Shimoda
03:21had a little speed on him on the rest of the track.
03:24And I expected Cole Davies to be even more dominant
03:29than he's been to start the season because he is that good.
03:32But we saw last weekend in Detroit, I mean, came from outside the top ten.
03:37That was complete domination.
03:39It's because the middle of his corner, he executed a lot better.
03:44You see that roll speed, not a lot of hesitation in the middle.
03:47So now that he has the rest of the track, like I said, off the top,
03:50I'm excited to see him go against the 1W.
03:53Absolutely.
03:54How about this guy on the Monster Energy Pro Circuit, Kawasaki?
03:57Seth Hamaker, nine points down.
03:58And it's time to go.
04:00Look, he's got three fast qualifiers on the season, so he's got some speed.
04:03He's got four straight podiums.
04:04But the last couple weeks, he's been just a little bit off of Cole Davies.
04:08And in order to beat Cole Davies, because of his speed advantage in the whoops,
04:12you either have to hope that the track doesn't have a very technical,
04:16long whoop section where you can lose a lot of time,
04:18or you have to be that much better than him around the rest of the track.
04:23And Cole Davies, he puts so much pressure on his competition that way.
04:28I mean, Lurch talked to Seth last weekend.
04:31He was saying he just wanted to get a little bit closer to Cole on the whoops.
04:34He knows he can't go as fast as I'm there.
04:37So Cole's putting a lot of pressure on the other championship contenders
04:40to be that much better than him around the rest of the track.
04:43How about the 22 in that Club MX Yamaha?
04:46Cody Shock.
04:47He had a season best last week of fourth.
04:49He passed Joe Shimoda late in that main event.
04:52He had incredible whoop speed.
04:53But just like many others in Hunter Lawrence, the whoops got him.
04:57He went into the manager's tower, still able to end up fourth in a really solid day a week ago
05:02for the 22.
05:02That was a pretty solid dismount last week.
05:05It was pretty solid.
05:07And I talked to Cody at Indianapolis, and coming into the season,
05:10he thought he had made a step speed-wise at the practice track during the week.
05:15Felt great.
05:16But I talked to him there, and you see a rider.
05:18It's like the 91 there.
05:19Gets into a tough block, goes down, and Cody, he's a great dude.
05:25Hard worker.
05:26And I think he was just wanting it a little bit too much in the beginning of the season,
05:30trying to bit too hard.
05:32And so you see Cole Davies experimenting with a different rhythm here.
05:35But I do expect Cody Shock to get on the podium.
05:38He is that guy.
05:39We've seen him on the podium in the past.
05:41Had a great ride last weekend.
05:43Just needs to execute the last five minutes here.
05:45Going to be really interesting as guys start to throw down some fast laps.
05:48Cole Davies on top with a 54.7.
05:51Hammaker in second, 54.8.
05:54So it is tight at the top.
05:56But I'm really, really curious.
05:58We mentioned talking to the Dirtworks guys, the track crew.
06:01This is very, very soft soil.
06:03So is the fastest time as Davies just absolutely rips that turn
06:07and rips the whoops like he's been doing all season long.
06:10But now it's time to go.
06:11The track is incredible right now.
06:12It's really, really fast.
06:13Maybe the fastest of the day.
06:14It is.
06:15And with how soft the dirt is, JB, I think it puts a premium on getting a good lap time
06:19early in these sessions.
06:21This track is going to look totally different even by the next session.
06:27You see ruts already starting to form.
06:30See Cole the first time anybody's done that.
06:32The double across the start.
06:34And normally the big jumps in the rhythm lane are five-footers, JB.
06:39And both you and I walked over there yesterday.
06:41That thing, that big jump that Cole just jumped over in that rhythm, that might be eight feet.
06:46I think that's one of the biggest jumps I've seen in a rhythm section a very long time.
06:49And we didn't know.
06:50Look, we walked the track a lot of times on press day.
06:53And we're like, are we losing touch?
06:54Or is this build a little bigger?
06:56We were talking to Joe Shimodi.
06:57He's like, no, it looks all right.
06:58And then everyone else we talked to are like, oh, yeah, this is a big track.
07:02And this is another rhythm here, the far most technical rhythm lane we have on the track.
07:07For these 250 guys, if they can get the three out of the corner, that's great.
07:11But that second three, it's off that little banana.
07:14It's a shallow pocket.
07:15So you can see these guys on the 250s, three and out of the corner, then really sitting into it,
07:21seat bouncing it, trying to get the lift they need to do that second three.
07:24And look at the time.
07:26Seth Hamaker just bettered Cole Davies.
07:29Barely, I mean barely.
07:30But how about this guy?
07:32He is having a career year, the 89 to Devin Simonson.
07:35And he put his name on the map, look, for results.
07:38But also, he was freestyling last week, AC.
07:41Wow, what a save.
07:43A nod to the legend, Kevin Windham.
07:45I don't think he meant, he definitely didn't mean to do that transfer, crossed over a couple lanes.
07:50But even watching him in press day yesterday, he's one of the first guys to do the triple out of
07:55the corner.
07:55And you can just tell the confidence is growing.
07:58He sees himself as a top five guy.
08:01And I think it really is only a matter of time before Simonson gets on the podium.
08:05I don't know if I've ever seen a relative unknown improve so much from the start of the season until
08:10now.
08:11And we have a Joe Shimoda qualifying, citing 54.7.
08:15All three of the guys, Shimoda, Hamaker, and Cole Davies.
08:18Devin Simonson in fifth and Haley Simonson's looking really good here in 2026.
08:23He's looking so good.
08:25Yeah, transfer of all transfers last weekend.
08:27But I had a chance to speak to the crew chief, Robbie Malinowski, about that internal pressure that is by
08:31design.
08:32We talk about that with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing.
08:35The iron sharpens iron.
08:36I said it's a fine line, right?
08:38Sometimes tensions can flare.
08:39Or with you guys at Club MX, is it all positive and encouraging?
08:42And Robbie was very honest.
08:44He said, honestly, tensions have been flaring.
08:45But we know with our guys, as soon as they get off the track, they all know they have to
08:49race each other on the weekend.
08:50And they're actually good friends.
08:52But that internal pressure has been lending itself to good results for Club MX Yamaha.
08:56Absolutely.
08:57Thank you, Haley and Devin Simonson.
08:59His rides this season have earned him a contract extension.
09:02He's extended with that Club MX Yamaha team for some motocross races this summer and also into 2027.
09:08So congrats to Simonson and that Club MX crew.
09:11Yeah, that's awesome.
09:12Well-deserved.
09:13And Cole David, you saw right there in the two rhythm lanes, he did completely different lines than he did
09:18on his fast lap, the lap before.
09:20And, you know, JB, we love a good rhythm lane with a couple different options.
09:24Absolutely.
09:24His hammocker goes to the top.
09:26But Daxton Benick on your screen, that Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna ride.
09:30He's fast here today in St. Louis.
09:33Fourth as he betters his time just a little bit.
09:36Still for a 55.1.
09:37And Dax Benick is one of those guys that I always hear about in the offseason or during the week,
09:43how fast he is at the practice track and had that podium to start the season.
09:48But I want to see a little bit more intensity, a little bit more speed out of Dax Benick because
09:54I know he has it.
09:55I know it's in there.
09:56Such a talented rider.
09:58I need to see a little bit more aggression to him in that battle to be up on the podium.
10:03I believe that's where he belongs with his talent level on this guy.
10:07Number 10, Seth Hammocker.
10:08He's been fastest in 7 of 10 qualifying sessions so far here today.
10:13Can he make it 8 of 11?
10:14He's fastest so far, 54.6.
10:17But, Adam, look how tight it is between those top three.
10:19Oh, I love it, JB.
10:20And I love this lap time.
10:22Around a little over 50 seconds.
10:24We're seeing 54s right now.
10:26I think that makes for a great racetrack.
10:28Love that length.
10:30And this track, there's no doubt about it in my mind.
10:32And this thing is going to go away so much.
10:34These guys, if they start the race, they start the main event, hitting one rhythm lane, they're going to end
10:39up hitting another one.
10:40You need a plan B just like Indianapolis.
10:43So, you already see it's a little bit harder than it was in press day, but still very sticky, grabby
10:50dirt.
10:52And it's so fun to hit these corners when the dirt's this good.
10:55There's no doubt about it.
10:56Look at that lean angle.
10:57Almost too much lean angle there from Davey.
10:59Started to push the front end just a little bit.
11:02And he just got on the gas.
11:03He got on the gas so hard on the exit of that turn.
11:06You saw the back end sink down a little bit.
11:08Front end goes up as he executes almost that triple over that big six or seven footer there.
11:15He's going to three out.
11:16And that's the one that I'm not sure these 250s can get.
11:20That second triple in that rhythm lane.
11:23You could tell he was a little bit frustrated right there.
11:26Here's that left-hand turn.
11:27Walk us through it, AC.
11:28Yeah, he gets on the gas so hard right here.
11:31And you see the front end was just a little bit out of the run.
11:34That's because when you get on the gas hard like that, it puts the balance of the bike, puts the
11:38weight on the rear end, makes the front end light.
11:41But he's a pro.
11:42He pulled it off.
11:44How about a nod?
11:45Take a look on the left side of your screen.
11:46Evan Ferry in seventh and his teammate on that Phoenix Racing Honda, Gavin Towers in ninth.
11:52Solid times for those two.
11:53And I talked to Evan Ferry last week, and he's very excited about where he's at right now.
11:59He's struggling with a lot of health-related problems so far in his pro career.
12:05But he says this is the first time he's gone to the gate as a pro, and he has confidence
12:10that he can make it to the end of the race fitness-wise.
12:13And I think that can do so much for a rider's confidence, and you're starting to see it with Evan
12:17Ferry.
12:18He was running the top five for a big portion of that race last weekend in Detroit as well.
12:22So, Evan Ferry, he's on the come-up.
12:25It's like Cole Davies not going to have time to get in another fast lap as the time just went
12:30to zero.
12:31Is Seth Hamaker going to be fastest for the eighth time out of 11 tries here in 2026?
12:38He has been fast.
12:39There's no doubt about it.
12:40Now, Joe Shimoda, on the other hand, his season best is third at Indianapolis, and we talk about it every
12:46single week,
12:46how Joe, he typically hovers around fifth, sixth, seventh, but no worries when the lights are the brightest at night
12:52and points are paid out.
12:53Joe always comes to play, but he's faster today so far.
12:57I do.
12:57I think that's a great sign because I don't think Joe's strategy has changed.
13:01Sometimes you come to a technical track, see all those ruts already in that rhythm lane.
13:06Joe loves when the track goes away, gets technical, and gets rough.
13:12And so I think it's just a condition thing for Joe inside the top three.
13:16That's a great session for him.
13:17That Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider, Seth Hamaker, he's got his day started off on the right.
13:23Bigfoot, Joe Shimoda as well.
13:25Cole Davies was looking to throw down some fast lap after fast lap.
13:2954.7, only one-tenth of a second off of the fastest.
13:32Daxton Bennett, that's a solid ride for him.
