00:02Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:11On the run, Hayden Deegan was fastest in Q1 earlier today, a 54.6.
00:17They were out second, the east actually went first to start the day.
00:22We thought, you know what, the track is much better for the east division.
00:25The west division is going to be tough to get on the same second.
00:27Hayden Deegan said, nah, nah, I'm going to go fastest out of everybody.
00:32And a second and a half, a second and four tenths of a second,
00:36he was faster than a second place qualifier in the first one, Levi Kitchen.
00:41To do that on a supercross track, a second and a half is a lifetime.
00:46JB, you know this, very difficult.
00:48I mean, these guys are good, Ryder D, Levi Kitchen.
00:51These guys are very fast.
00:53So it just shows you how special the 1W has been in supercross this year.
00:59It's fun to watch.
01:00Well, and then to your point, Adam, then we go to the 450 class and the top ten were on
01:05the same second.
01:06And typically that doesn't happen on a very challenging racetrack like this.
01:10So Hayden Deegan on the move here today in St. Louis.
01:13He wants to wrap up that 250 Western Division Championship here today with just a couple rounds remaining.
01:21And I love how Hayden Deegan is able to, in corners that have very deep ruts, technical corners,
01:27he's able to stand up late into the turns, which is not uncommon.
01:32But what is uncommon is his transition from standing to sitting.
01:38Sometimes when you stand late into a turn, sit kind of towards the exit, there will be a bit of
01:43a pause,
01:44a bit of a hesitation as you kind of put more load on the bike.
01:47But his transition from standing up to sitting, there's absolutely no pause there in the middle of his corner.
01:54It's pretty cool to watch.
01:55Love that right there in that last turn.
01:57He goes 54.4.
01:59That's the fastest of the day right there.
02:01But he stood all the way around that 90-degree turn before the finish line.
02:04This one right here, Levi sits.
02:06Hayden chooses to stand and kind of back wheel drifts.
02:10Kitchen goes to second with a 55.7.
02:12We mentioned that kidney belt.
02:14Levi dealing with a little bit of a back injury at the moment.
02:17Kind of flares up here and there.
02:19But he's been fast all day so far.
02:20He has.
02:21And just watching Levi, and I've said this a few times this season,
02:25he hasn't got a win.
02:26And he was pretty close at Seattle.
02:28But riding-wise, it's difficult to compare him to himself in past years
02:34because Hayden Deegan has been so otherworldly, spectacular, dominant.
02:40But I really do think that Levi, before this injury,
02:43I think it was some of the best riding we've seen from him on Supercross.
02:47So if I'm him, Monstergy, Pro Circuit, Kawasaki,
02:50it's got to be pretty frustrating to not see that translate to wins yet.
02:55But that's what happens when you run into someone as good as Hayden Deegan.
02:59It just requires you to be so perfect to win.
03:02But Levi Kitchen, he's got a lot more wins in his future, no doubt.
03:07Just needs to get healthy, have a couple solid races,
03:10go into outdoors with some momentum.
03:13He's going to be good for a long time.
03:14But Club MX Yamaha's Max Volan on the 19 on your screen.
03:19A lot of lean angle right there.
03:20Lex not to triple out of that turn.
03:22You notice Hayden Deegan was going triple, triple,
03:24and then he'd go over that tabletop.
03:26We talked about it in Q1 earlier today.
03:29Max, the skill level during the week and the speed is second to none.
03:33If he could bring that to a Saturday night,
03:35we all believe that he could win races and definitely be on the podium.
03:38And even just watching him, and I know you felt the same way,
03:41watching him in press day as Max Anstey just goes a little long,
03:44makes a mistake there.
03:46Watching him in press day, he had so much aggression and intensity
03:51and the speed that he was carrying into his turns.
03:54And the track was a lot like it is right now, not super rough, super rutted.
03:59But if he translated that intensity to today,
04:03there's no doubt he's qualifying in the top three every single time.
04:07But sometimes it's difficult as a young rider
04:10to bring that stuff you're working on during the week
04:13and to execute on Saturday.
04:14It's very easy to be distracted outside of your normal process.
04:19But Volan, man, he's got more in the tank.
04:21He just needs to find it on Saturday.
04:24Little side to side right there from the 1W of Hayden Deegan.
04:27Trying to throw down another lap time.
04:29He's fastest so far, 54.4,
04:32over a second faster than anyone else on track right now.
04:35And exactly what you said.
04:36He can go to any part of the track.
04:37The lap before in the corner after the mechanics area
04:40went all the way around the top of it.
04:42This time goes low.
04:44He's so good.
04:44He'll switch his line halfway through the main event,
04:47and it'll look like he's been doing that line all day.
04:51And you know this, JB.
04:52Once you get locked into a line as he does that triple-triple pretty easily,
04:56once you get locked into a line,
04:58it feels like a bit of a risk to change it in the race.
05:01And just the way he's able to do that and execute, very good.
05:04Let's see what this time is.
05:06Does he better?
05:06It's 54.4.
05:07He does by four-tenths of a second, 54.0.
05:10He just keeps getting faster and faster and faster.
05:14Remember at Birmingham in the last East-West Showdown,
05:17he qualified sixth.
05:18Then, of course, went out and won the race
05:20and was penalized and relegated to second.
05:23But, wow, Hayden Deegan, he is very impressive here today in St. Louis.
05:28Levi Kitchen second so far.
05:301.7 seconds slower than Hayden Deegan.
05:33And what I don't understand is you're watching Hayden Deegan do that triple-triple
05:38in that far rhythm lane.
05:40And it doesn't even look.
05:41He's not seat bouncing it.
05:42It doesn't look like he's doing anything crazy spectacular to get that section done.
05:48and I'm yet to see anybody else on camera even try it.
05:53So, if you're these guys, sometimes when you have a guy like Hayden Deegan
05:57that has been kind of far and away better, you stop comparing yourself to him
06:03and you start comparing yourself to everybody else.
06:05It becomes a race for second place.
06:07And that's kind of what I'm seeing.
06:10Club MX Yamaha's Max Bolin on screen.
06:1256.80, sixth fastest so far.
06:15And Bolin and Hunter Yoder have been awesome to watch this year.
06:19And look at Hunter Yoder up there in third.
06:2155.9.
06:22Gets competitive during the week down there at the Club MX training facility in South Carolina.
06:27What about Ryder DeFrancisco?
06:29Guy we talked about a lot coming into this season.
06:34Third fastest is his best so far this season.
06:37He's fourth right now with a 56.3.
06:40Guy's starting to just kind of look around, search for some lines, huh?
06:42Yeah, I think the track's starting to go away a little bit.
06:44Hayden Deegan's got his two laps in the bag.
06:4854.0 is his best.
06:50Second fastest time, 54.4.
06:52So, he can back it up.
06:54See Max Anstey.
06:55He had made a mistake when he was on screen last.
06:58Went a little long on that second triple.
07:01Cleans that.
07:01Goes a little bit long on that triple out of the corner there and messes up his lap.
07:06Yeah, those rhythm lanes are going to be tough.
07:08We talk about it.
07:08Look, track crew went out there, did some work.
07:11How about Volant dipping down into those whoops?
07:13Wheel taps four.
07:14And that's the skill we talk about all the time with Volant.
07:17It's very, it's difficult to do that.
07:18You know that, JB.
07:20Once you drop the front tire in the whoops, it's hard to really teach someone how to recover from that.
07:26But the talent level, he's got a natural feel on the motorcycle that is very elite.
07:33So, I'm just waiting to see because I know how good he is.
07:37So, I have a high standard for Volant.
07:39I believe he can be even better than he's been this season.
07:42It's been a pretty good season for him.
07:44But he has the chance to be really special in the future if he can unlock that.
07:48It's a hard thing to do.
07:48Some people never are able to go as fast on Saturday as they do during the week.
07:53But he's still young.
07:54He's got a great team.
07:55Club MX Yamaha behind him.
07:57I think you'll get there.
07:59It might take a little more time.
08:00Volant just went into the top five.
08:02So, now two Club MX Yamahas inside the top five.
08:05Shout out to that team doing a great job.
08:08Deegan on top, 54.0.
08:10And this rhythm lane right here, he has been nailing all day long.
08:14So fast, stands up into that, sits at the exit of the turn, then stands off the face.
08:19Wow.
08:20Am I tripping?
08:21That second triple, he's not making it look difficult, Justin.
08:25He's really not.
08:26And there's guys like Max Volant.
08:28I've seen him jump some crazy quads.
08:32But, obviously, if nobody is doing it but Hayden Deegan, it clearly is difficult.
08:36But I think that's where he's making up a lot of the time there.
08:3953, first rider in the 53s.
08:42Almost two seconds faster than Levi Kitchen.
08:47This is insane.
08:49This is fun to watch.
08:50Sometimes it's nice just to sit back and watch a guy like Hayden Deegan execute a lap.
08:55Hunter Yoder's going for another one.
08:58They're all scared of that second triple.
09:00They are.
09:00They really are.
09:04Obviously tougher than it looks here on canvas.
09:07Yoder leans into that 90-degree turn.
09:09Can he better as 55.9?
09:12Still solid for Hunter Yoder in third.
09:14I mean, to be top three in this field, pretty impressive.
09:17And I always go back to Hunter's story.
09:20Being a Geico Honda amateur rider with a guaranteed pro contract.
09:25And then the rug gets pulled out from under him.
09:27Has to go the privateer route.
09:29And he's just a hard worker, a grinder.
09:31And it's been cool to see him kind of work himself back into relevance here.
09:36He's a great rider.
09:37And he's going to continue to get better.
09:39I love the fit with him in Club MX Yamaha.
09:42I love that team for him.
09:44And what he's been able to do so far this year.
09:46It's not surprising to me because I know how good he is.
09:50Bowen going double, triple.
09:52And then he tripled onto the tabletop.
09:55Right-hand 90-degree turn.
09:57Let's see what this time is for Max Bowen.
09:59Can he jump Ryder D or his teammate Hunter Yoder?
10:0256.4.
10:04That last lap around for Bowen.
10:0656 or 57.3.
10:08So a little bit off.
10:08And when I go back to that conversation,
10:11what I was saying earlier about guys not comparing themselves to Hayden Deegan anymore
10:15because he's been so good, it's a perfect encapsulation of it,
10:20not doing that second triple in that rhythm.
10:22If these guys were truly going for the win tonight, you know that's the faster line.
10:28You know you have to do that.
10:30But they're just, of course, Levi Kitchen dealing with that back injury.
10:33I understand that.
10:34But I would expect these guys to send that thing.
10:38Maybe I'm being too hard on them, JB.
10:40No, I think you're good.
10:41Call it like you see it, right?
10:4243, Lux Turner on screen.
10:44Ryan Turner had a great Q1 earlier today, was inside the top five.
10:48Now he's sixth, 56.5.
10:50And a lot of guys starting to jump that.
10:52We didn't even see very many 450s doing that.
10:54Now a lot of these 250s starting to like to jump across that start.
10:57Well, you see, once the track crew got in and kind of packed everything back down,
11:02it's not getting quite as ruddy as it was in the first session.
11:06So allowing these guys to use the top of this bowl corner,
11:09get the speed, and double across the start.
11:12But it's one of those things.
11:13It's the faster line.
11:15But if you can't guarantee that you're going to be able to make the double across the start
11:19so you can get that next triple,
11:22you have to be very confident that you can do the same thing lap after lap after lap.
11:26And I think a lot of the guys are just opting for the safest line.
11:30Brader D looked like he was on a fast lap.
11:32He's fourth right now, 56.3.
11:36That last lap around, he was a 56.5.
11:39So still solid, still right there.
11:40That was his second best time.
11:42As this man, though, just continues to impress.
11:45Two seconds.
11:46Adam, two seconds faster than everyone else on track.
11:50And he's done multiple times that are low 54s.
11:53Then he got into the 53s.
11:55Wow.
11:55What's crazy is, yeah, watching him ride, it looks like a lap that could be lap 10 of the main
12:01event.
12:02It doesn't look like he's pushing beyond his limit at all.
12:05It's coming easy for him right now.
12:07And when you have this level of confidence, sometimes it'll be easier to lose focus
12:14because you just feel like you have everyone covered.
12:16But Hayden Deegan, again, I talk about it being his own benchmark, setting goals.
12:21I'm sure he's looking at 450 times.
12:23And you have to when you have this much of an advantage on the field.
12:26Can we talk about this summer when he's going to 450?
12:29Oh, it's going to be so fun to watch.
12:31But I'm here to watch him maybe win this Western Division championship here today.
12:37He needs to win the race.
12:38Top story.
