00:00Joining us now from Macomb, Illinois. So, Tony, the environment, it may be a small step down from yesterday, but
00:05it's still possibly conducive to tornadoes.
00:10Yeah, Jeff, in fact, I would say that that likelihood has started to increase a little bit as we've gone
00:14through the afternoon.
00:15Really, when most of us were waking up this morning, we were talking about the areas further off to the
00:20west over toward northeast parts of Kansas into southwest Iowa, northwest Missouri in that triple point vicinity.
00:27But as you mentioned, we've got that tornado watch that extends all the way out to this area.
00:31It does include folks here in Macomb and that tornado watch going till 10 o'clock tonight because the ingredients
00:37are starting to come together here.
00:39I think for a little bit maybe of a higher tornado threat than maybe we went to bed thinking about
00:45last night in this part of the area here.
00:47This is basically what us tornado chaser type like to call the typical Illinois warm front place.
00:52A lot of times these kind of setups kind of are sleepy until the morning of and then we start
00:58to get the ingredients.
00:59You notice here the sun and the white cumulus behind me.
01:02The frogs have quieted down. They're no longer chanting my name behind me.
01:06But again, we're starting to see the warmth and the instability building in this area.
01:10And we do have some showers and a couple of thundershowers that have developed to our south and southwest.
01:15Those are going to be the ones we're going to be watching here over the next couple hours as things
01:18start to get going.
01:19Those storms will start to move northeast out of northeastern Missouri into portions of western Illinois.
01:26And I think as we get further into the afternoon, more destabilization takes place.
01:30Those storms will likely start to rotate.
01:33And then, of course, then with that, we'll bring the threat for large hail and the potential for a couple
01:37of tornadoes in that as well.
01:39We're going to be focusing our efforts kind of in this general area from here, point south down toward Quincy,
01:45maybe to Hannibal, which is right across the river there from Quincy, maybe over toward Kirksville.
01:50That is kind of where we're seeing that initiation.
01:52And again, we'll start to follow those storms as they work their way up into this area.
01:56The bad news for folks here, as you mentioned with the further west target,
02:01is you're going to have a line of storms that's going to come in later in the evening after those
02:05storms done.
02:06So we could be looking at two, maybe three rounds of storms for this neck of the woods here.
02:10Again, that tornado watch going until 10 o'clock tonight.
02:13It is possible with that second line of storms, though.
02:16We could see that severe weather threat linger a little further into the evening and overnight hours.
02:20And then things shift a little bit further to the east.
02:22Fortunately, though, tomorrow not looking nearly as potent as we've seen the last few days.
02:26So that is some good news, albeit that severe weather chance is still there for my friends there in the
02:30Buckeye State.
02:31So certainly be aware of that for your Saturday.
02:33But all eyes will be shifted here today.
02:35You mentioned all the tornado chasers, Jeff.
02:37We've got a whole bunch here we've run into, several of our own here along the AccuWeather Network.
02:42Aaron Rigsby amongst those.
02:43All of us kind of changing our perceptions as we got up this morning to look at things.
02:47And that's kind of why, again, we like to be out here sometimes and make those moves on the fly.
02:52Because sometimes you go to bed thinking one thing, and you're going to wake up the next morning,
02:56and you're going to be in a whole different neck of the woods.
02:58So here in Macomb right now, all is good for the time being.
03:02But we imagine in the next couple hours things will start to pick up.
03:04All right.
03:05Thank you so much for that report there, Tony.
03:07And for perspective, we have the radar up for Macomb, Illinois.
03:10We're going to be tracking this with you.
03:14Again, radar and Tony on the ground.
03:16And there you can see west central parts of Illinois.
03:18A little bit of thunder and lightning with some of those downpours that have not been severe yet down near
03:22Quincy.
03:22I'm going to switch over to the high-res radar just to show you this area around, well, Springfield, Illinois.
03:29Small-scale convection.
03:30These storms not really too much bite here into an area northeast of Springfield yet.
03:35And then another perspective heading up into the Davenport radar site.
03:38You can see that it's been a little noisier up this way with numerous thunderstorms from Dubuque moving up into
03:43extreme southwestern Wisconsin.
03:45But overall, that's kind of a larger area of disorganized thunderstorm activity.
03:50We begin to head west, and this is where we have some storms that have a little more firepower at
03:55the moment.
