00:20a very good evening i'm gita mohan and you're watching it today global
00:23breaking news coming in at the top of this bulletin
00:31u.s president donald trump hailed strikes on biggest bridge in iran trump says the biggest
00:37bridge in iran comes tumbling down never to be used again much more to follow it is time for iran
00:45to make a deal before it is too late and there is nothing left of what still could become a
00:51great
00:52country that's the big news coming in trump is upping the ante he's doubling down president
00:59trump now has posted that the biggest bridge in iran has been blown up by iran by by american
01:08forces that's a big news that's coming in he's already hailed it and says now that iran is
01:15should be looking for ceasefire should be looking to halt what is one of the worst wars in the region
01:23in recent times
01:27u.s president donald trump in his address today also spoke about the nation uh and about the
01:34ongoing west asia conflict but gave no clear end game or exit timeline instead he highlighted
01:39operation epic fury claiming major military success against iran and touted a new oil partnership with
01:45venezuela trump insisted the u.s is not fighting for oil while emphasizing energy independence and
01:52economic strength he also focused on the fact that the war could continue for the next two or three
01:57weeks if iran does not succumb and it does seem like that is exactly what america is doing at this
02:04point in time by blowing up the biggest bridge in iran mahasweta lala with this report
02:13amid an uncertain and lingering west asia war people across the globe waited for an address
02:19hoping to hear the president of the united states of america to say the war has ended or possibly
02:27usa's exit from nato but it seemed like donald trump was reading his post from truth social posted since
02:35the beginning of war after congratulating nasa and its astronauts on the successful launch of
02:43artemis 2 trump posted about the success of operation epic fury never in the history of
02:50warfare has an enemy suffered such clear and devastating large-scale losses in a matter of weeks
02:57our enemies are losing in america as it has been for five years under my presidency is winning and
03:04now winning bigger than ever before then trump went on to praise usa's military operation in
03:12venezuela and how the country has now along with the united states have become joint venture partners
03:19i also want to thank our troops for the masterful job they did in taking the country of venezuela in
03:26a
03:26matter of minutes that it was quick lethal violent and respected by everyone all over the world
03:33after rebuilding our military during my first term we have by far the strongest military anywhere in
03:41the world and now we're working along with venezuela and are in a true sense joint venture partners we're
03:48getting along incredibly well in the production and sale of massive amounts of oil and gas the second
03:55largest reserves on earth after the united states of america president trump said america was not
04:03fighting for iran's oil but was there to help its allies we're now totally independent of the middle
04:11east and yet we are there to help we don't have to be there we don't need their oil we
04:17don't need
04:18anything they have but we're there to help our allies but soon he shifted his stance on the importance
04:25of operation fury and its objectives to disarm iran of its nuclear weapons for what trump described
04:31is necessary for the safety of america and the security of the world as i stated in my announcement of
04:40operation epic fury our objectives are very simple and clear we are systematically dismantling the
04:47regime's ability to threaten america or project power outside of their borders that means eliminating
04:54iran's navy which is now absolutely destroyed hurting their air force and their missile program at
05:03levels never seen before and annihilating their defense industrial base we've done all of it
05:09their navy is gone their air force is gone their missiles are just about used up or beaten
05:16taken together these actions will cripple iran military crush their ability to support terrorist
05:22proxies and deny them the ability to build a nuclear bomb after gasoline prices in the u.s hit four
05:30dollars a gallon trump claimed u.s was prepared economically ahead of the conflict remember because
05:37of our drill baby drill program america has plenty of gas we have so much gas under my leadership we
05:44are
05:44number one producer of oil and gas on the planet without even discussing the millions of barrels that
05:50we're getting from venezuela because of the trump administration's policies we produce more oil and
05:57gas than saudi arabia and russia combined think of that saudi arabia and russia combined and that number
06:04will soon be substantially higher than that there's no country like us anywhere in the world and we're in great
06:13shape for the future since the beginning of the war president trump has been very critical of nato
06:19members who refrained from the war but in this address he softened his criticism of nato allies
06:25and reiterated that countries which are dependent on hormones should take care of the passage themselves
06:32so to those countries that can't get fuel many of which refuse to get involved in the
06:39decapitation of iran we had to do it ourselves i have a suggestion number one buy oil from the united
06:45states of america we have plenty we have so much and number two build up some delayed courage should
06:52have done it before should have done it with us as we asked go to the strait and just take
06:58it protect
06:59it use it for yourselves iran has been essentially decimated the hard part is done so it should be easy
07:08a day after trump told reporters that the u.s will leave iran in two to three weeks he did
07:13not mention
07:14this in his address thus leaving everyone wondering about the end date of the conflict
07:21and again he relayed some of the excerpts from his truth social posts we're going to hit them extremely
07:28hard over the next two to three weeks we're going to bring them back to the stone ages where they
07:35belong
07:36in the meantime discussions are ongoing regime change was not our goal we never said regime change but
07:43regime change has occurred because of all of their original leaders death they're all dead
07:52the new group is less radical and much more reasonable yet if during this period of time no deal is
07:58made we have our eyes on key targets if there is no deal we are going to hit each and
08:04every
08:04one of their electric generating plants very hard and probably simultaneously we have not hit their
08:11oil even though that's the easiest target of all because it would not give them even a small chance of
08:18survival or rebuilding the speech did not address a timeline for any ground offensive as a third aircraft
08:26carrier is in the middle east no exit plan and what will be the next move a statement was issued
08:34by us
08:35lawmaker gregory meeks following the address stating that there was no imminent threat and the country was
08:41dragged into it without consulting the congress and the american people with mahasweta lala bureau report india today
08:53and joining me from new york is professor david k johnston uh he is with the rochester institute of
08:59technology a pulitzer prize-winning investigative journalist and author of the making of donald trump
09:06thank you so much for joining us uh over here professor johnston let's begin with the the speech of
09:13president trump does it seem like a man who's looking for an out or somebody who's in it for the
09:20long
09:20haul well he doesn't have control over when this war will end much as he thinks that a war is
09:27like a
09:28package of food you buy at the grocery store with a use-by date uh the the snippets you ran
09:34are full of
09:35so many lies and falsehoods we could spend an hour gita talking about them um for example he brought
09:41up drill baby drill well there are one-third as many oil rigs operating in the u.s as there
09:45were
09:45under obama and only 60 as many as under joe biden um what trump is doing here is making the
09:54united
09:54states a pariah nation and he's sending a message go steal the oil of the iranians he's saying to
10:00european countries which shouldn't surprise people who know that donald is a career criminal the third
10:07generation head of a four generation white collar crime family uh he's been stealing from people his
10:14whole life that's was his uh business model was a theft failure to pay uh cheating workers investors
10:20governments everybody um but trump has no idea what he's doing here he knows nothing about the history
10:28of west asia he doesn't even know about the schism in islam and why it is that the vicious administration
10:35in riad who donald treats as a friend is not that much different in terms of viciousness from tehran
10:43and yet they absolutely hate each other trump doesn't understand any of this he is appallingly
10:50ignorant but in terms of earning you just talked about how uh you know uh he's he's based his entire
10:57empire by earning uh through various means and they're always not all legitimate in this war
11:05professor johnston do you see the family earn because we've seen some reports of how uh just
11:12before trump's announcements some of the stocks go up uh prices of some of the stocks have gone up
11:18there are uh there are uh investments that are being made by pete hexath is the family also earning
11:26the trump family has made a lot of money off of the middle east jared kushner trump's son-in-law
11:32and his
11:32supposed negotiator in these matters along with the real estate guy named steve whitkoff
11:38has obtained more than six billion dollars to manage from the saudis the emiratis and others
11:45even though the professional advisors to the saudi royal family said this guy jared kushner has no
11:51competence no track record um no ability to handle your money well uh the only reason he's getting all
11:58those investments is the saudis are making sure that they have donald trump on their side because
12:04riyadh is very afraid of tehran well that's absolutely right but uh more importantly the idea
12:12of america being the net security advisor uh uh net security provider sorry for the entire region
12:19particularly west asia has that myth been broken well that's a very expensive proposition and particularly
12:28because the narrowness of the strait of hormuz will allow even a severely degraded uh tehran government
12:36to restrict who goes through and allow them to make money and by the way you know trump in his
12:41speech
12:42denounced joe biden i'm sorry barack obama for returning to the iranians 1.4 billion dollars of their
12:49own money saying it in a way that implied american taxpayers had put up this money well by lifting the
12:55sanctions on iranian oil he just made the iranians 10 times that much money so it's really important
13:03to understand that you're not dealing here with a sophisticated person someone with deep knowledge
13:09of the world like a barack obama for example you're dealing with someone who is a con man it's all
13:15bluster
13:16and he has no idea of the broader damage that he's doing to the u.s reputation around the world
13:23noticed that the nato allies and european countries not in nato are saying hey that's your war pal we
13:30don't want anything to do with it that's a very important take professor k johnston thank you so
13:35much for joining us i hope to see more of you on our network with the perspective that you've added
13:41and you've added value to thank you so much for joining us
13:47west asia is inching closer to a dangerous multi-front war after hezbollah and the houthis
13:53now the chechen fighters aligned with ramzan khadirov threatened to enter the iran conflict in support
13:59of tehran is this regional crisis now on the verge of turning into a wider global confrontation
14:04the iran war may now be entering an even more dangerous space
14:42after hezbollah in lebanon and the houthis in yemen a new force is now threatened to enter the
14:47conflict chechen fighters aligned with russia's ramzan khadirov
14:54according to iranian state media chechen military units have declared
14:58they are ready to deploy to iran if the united states launches a ground invasion
15:05the message is clear what began as a u.s israel campaign against iran
15:10is rapidly expanding into a broader regional and potentially international confrontation
15:20the houthis have already opened a fresh front by launching missile and drone attacks towards israel
15:27while also warning that the bab al-mandev strait one of the world's most critical maritime
15:32choke points could be shot if the war escalates further
15:38that comes on top of the continuing threat around the strait of hormus where iran's actions have
15:44already jolted global oil and gas supplies
15:50now with chechen fighters threatening what they describe as a jihad in support of tehran
15:55the conflict is taking on a deeper ideological and geopolitical dimension
16:03this means iran is no longer relying only on its traditional regional proxies
16:11instead the war risk drawing in transnational armed groups with battlefield experience from other
16:17conflicts including ukraine
16:22for washington and its allies this raises the stakes significantly
16:27a ground offensive against iran could now trigger not just retaliation from tehran hezbollah and the
16:34houthis but also armed intervention from chechen units
16:42in short this is no longer just an iran-israel confrontation
16:50it is beginning to resemble a widening regional war with global consequences from security to energy markets
17:01and every new actor entering the battlefield pushes west asia closer to a full-scale multi-front conflict
17:18britain has accused iran of holding the world's economy hostage as diplomats from more than 40
17:24countries held a virtual meeting on ways to reopen the strait of hormus british foreign secretary cooper
17:31hosted the virtual talks which included france germany italy canada and the united arab
17:37emirates the u.s did not attend the virtual meeting it also comes after president donald trump
17:42made clear that he thinks securing the waterway partially closed as a consequence of the u.s israeli
17:48war on iran is not america's job trump has also disparaged european allies for failing to support the war
17:57and renewed his threats to pull the u.s out of nato cooper said they were looking at action to
18:04guarantee
18:04the safety of trapped ships and seafarers saying that there are currently 20 000 trapped seafarers on
18:11some 2 000 trapped ships
18:1525 attacks on vessels in the strait and there are some 20 000 trapped seafarers on some 2 000 trapped
18:24ships
18:25we have seen iran hijack an international shipping route to hold the global economy hostage we are
18:33also convening military planners to look at how we marshal our collective defensive military
18:38capabilities including looking at issues such as demining or reassurance once the conflict eases but
18:47in today's meeting we are focusing on the diplomatic and international planning measures including
18:54collective mobilization of our full range of diplomatic and economic tools and pressures
19:00reassurance work with industry insurers and energy markets and also action to guarantee the safety of
19:09trapped ships and seafarers
19:13and my colleague pranay padi joins me for more on this pranay the big news uh the biggest bridge in
19:20iran
19:20has been attacked and uh president trump says more to follow at a time when europeans are coming together
19:28to reopen the strait of homos your take on what's happening on the ground and how long do you see
19:34see the war extend now
19:37geeta as we have been discussing there is an intensified phase of this conflict and in coming
19:42week we may see uh you know more intensive intense uh strikes carried out by idf and united states on
19:49iran and on the other side let me tell you from the ground in tel aviv
19:53that in last uh in last one hour there has been 2400 alerts in over 768 cities or towns of
20:02israel and
20:03in last 24 hours there has been over 640 uh you know missile alerts in in israel so this clearly
20:11shows
20:11that on one side iran is uh sending the barrage of missiles targeting israel on the other side israeli
20:17defense forces as well as the american uh military is carrying out uh intensified uh strikes especially
20:23if you see in today's strike uh on on the uh on the northwestern side of iran the city of
20:30karaj where
20:31this uh important uh bridge was targeted and on the other side the south uh eastern side of iran
20:37which is like bandar abbas and chabar were also targeted by the israel defense forces as well as the
20:42american forces this clearly shows that uh the american forces uh american military as well as
20:47the israeli defense forces are carrying out intense strike carrying out against the infrastructure of
20:53iran trying to neutralize the capabilities of irgc to mobilize its resources mobilize its its forces
21:00and in fact relocate its command and control structure to different areas right the coming weeks
21:06seem to be quite intense and could be very difficult for iran pranapadhyay stay safe we'll keep coming
